Chapter 4: Memorable 17th
“Kagome?” Mom called from the kitchen. It has been a week since they got back and was refreshed and ready to tackle the challenge at hand: the wedding. Kagome was in her room and ran down the stairs to see her Mom leaning against the stove, cooking lunch.
“Yeah, Mom?” She asked as decided to help her prepare lunch and started chopping lettuce and tomatoes for the salad.
“Have you decided what you and Sango are doing for your birthdays?” She turned around and faced her daughter who was on the other side of the island, chopping away.
Kagome shook her head.
“No idea. With the engagement and everything, it hasn't been at the forefront of our minds. I'll call Sango and ask her about it.”
“Has your fiancé mentioned any plans for you?” She asked, grinning from ear to ear.
“He has yet to tell me about it. I'm pretty sure that he's keeping it from me. He's always keeping things to himself or telling everyone else.” She responded with a soft laugh, whilst quickly chopping the lettuce and setting it aside in a bowl and started to slice the tomatoes.
“Speaking of which, where is he? I haven't seen him in a few days.” Mom asked, while she added seasonings to the stew in the pot.
“He's been busy with something and refuses to tell me. I swear he likes torturing me this way!” She raised her voice a little bit. Mom just laughed and moved to the cooked vegetables.
They heard the front door open and turned to see Sango, raising her hands in defense.
“I come in peace!” She shouted. They just laughed.
“Come on in, Sango.” Kagome said as she nearly finished the slicing and moved over to the sink and washed the lettuce.
“Hey Sango, what do you want to do this year for our birthdays?” Kagome and Sango's birthdates was only a week and a half apart and decided about 10 year's back to celebrate at the same time. Sango just shrugged and decided to help Mom with the stove items, which Mom didn't object to.
“Have no clue. We've done everything from swimming parties to roller skating. We have to do something different this year.” She responded.
“Speaking of different, have you been noticing Inuyasha and Miroku's strange behavior?” She wondered as she moved back to the island and placed the lettuce in a separate bowl and took the tomatoes and moved back to the sink to wash them.
Both Sango and Mom were both at the opposite side of the island, preparing the meat and vegetables into separate plates.
“Yeah I noticed it. Miroku refuses to spill anything, though. Even tried to threaten him but he won't budge.” She said frustrated.
“Same with Inuyasha. Every time we turn around they're hiding something again. It's getting on my nerves.” Kagome added, also sounding frustrated.
It was silent for a while as they prepared lunch. They heard Souta and Kohaku running into the kitchen to see what was happening.
“No boys. Not until everyone arrives.” Mom told them, moving the big serving dish of stew of their reach. Souta just pouted and Kohaku had a pleading expression.
“Sango, Mom wanted me to ask you what you want to do for your party so we could arrange it.” Kohaku asked his older sister as he sat in a chair in the adjacent dining room, with Souta following.
“We don't know yet. Everyone's been running around lately and has had our hands full. And we don't know what they boys want to do.” Sango answered him as she wiped her hands off with a dish cloth.
“Who knows what they're planning.” Kagome said. They all heard a car pull up and Mom went to the kitchen window to see who it was. She sighed.
“Your father is on time. I was beginning to think that he would miss our delicious lunch.”
Speaking of time, Kagome looked at the clock above the doorway and shook her head. “Dad is always on time, but sometimes I can't say the same thing about Inuyasha. Lately he has been showing up late.” Sango looked up and nodded.
“Yeah, Miroku has too. It's not like him, though.”
Dad walked in and greeted the family, taking off his coat and setting his briefcase aside. He went over and kissed all three girls in the kitchen. Even though Sango wasn't his own daughter, he still treated her like family and in a sense she was.
“Boy I'm beat. I went to the wedding consultant and had a long, interesting conversation. We have more scheduling, planning and more trips to get through.” He told them, sitting beside Souta in the dining room.
Both girls moaned. Things weren't getting any easier and the wedding was adding to whatever stress they already were feeling.
“I think we should wait for the Miroku and Inuyasha. We need to figure out what we're doing for the girl's party.” Mom said. All three were moving in and out of the kitchen, preparing the table for lunch.
Nobody noticed as said boys were stalking to the kitchen. They entered through the back door and stood behind the wall where the dining room and kitchen were adjoined. Luckily, Sango and Kagome had their backs to them and Mom was talking to Dad. Souta and Kohaku turned around to see Miroku and Inuyasha, now in his human state. They made a notion to keep quite. The two younger boys gave thumbs up and turned around, so they wouldn't be suspected of anything. Dad looked up and glanced as Inuyasha and Miroku quietly tip-toed to the kitchen but didn't say anything but smiled. Mom looked up as well but kept silent.
“You know I'm going to miss these homemade meals at home.” Kagome told her, as she and Sango had their backs still turned.
“Yeah, you make the best food around, aside from my mom, too.” Sango said, eyeing the delicious stew, licking her lips.
“When you move out, you won't forget them. You watched me make many of them so many times; it'll come naturally when you decide to make them. Besides, I think Inuyasha and Miroku appreciate your guys' cooking.” She tried to hold back a smile and her laughter, hoping not to expose what was behind them.
Kagome was puzzled as to why Mom was holding her laughter back all of a sudden. As she was making a move to turn around, she was silently covered by two hands. She gasped at the sudden move.
“Okay, why am I blind? Mom? Sango?” She pondered as she tried to remove the hands from her eyes.
“I'm blind too, Kagome. Someone likes to play all these tricks on us. If it's who I'm thinking, they better remove them before I bite them off!” She heard Sango yell. She stopped, moving up from the hands to the arms. She felt bare skin as well as muscles. She felt herself being pulled into someone. She gave a knowing smile, instantly knowing who was behind her. She sighed, crossing her arms.
“Miroku!!!” She heard Sango screamed and heard a hard smack, resulting with a pained yell from him. Kagome reached to grab the hands and remove them and held them. She turned around with an amused look.
“Is this what you enjoy doing? Coming up behind me and doing something that scares the living daylights out of me? Every single time! Why do you do this to me?” She asked him, noticing his human appearance. With her grip still on his hands, his answer was a soft, quick kiss.
“I love you too much not to torture you.” Even though his usual golden eyes were replaced with the light violet, she still gazed at them, thinking at how warm and pleasant they still were. She snapped out of it and released his hands.
“Still, I would feel less petrified if you gave a little warning!” And with that, she moved away and stared at the four occupants at the table.
“And you!” She pointed a finger at Mom, Dad, Souta, and Kohaku. “Do we amuse you when they sneak up on us?!” She clearly stated, obviously voicing her anger and frustration. They all just held their laughter as they tried to avoid her gaze.
“Are we here for your entertainment? Were we put on this earth to serve you your pleasure?!” Sango yelled behind her. With that, they all started laughing so hard that they couldn't hold back any longer. Kagome turned around to glare at Inuyasha and Miroku. “See now what you did? I hope you big jerks are satisfied.” She bitterly said, folding her arms, turning to see the laughter still conspiring.
“From the looks of it, we are doing a pretty good job of it.” Inuyasha remarked, obviously pleased with himself.
“Not helping, Inuyasha!” Sango spat out. Miroku was holding back his own amusement.
After a while, all was peaceful again. The delicious lunch was set at the table and all eight occupants sat. Inuyasha, Kagome, and Souta sat one side while Miroku, Sango, and Kohaku sat on the other with Mom and Dad at the ends. There was a conversation going on what to do for the girl's 17th birthday celebration.
“Are you going to do the usual sleepover?” Dad asked. “Cause I know that you do it every year but with everything that has happened, I'm not sure what you're planning to do.” He was looking back and forth between Kagome and Sango.
“You're right, Dad. We've always done that but with recently being engaged, we're not sure what we want to do.” Kagome replied, going back and forth between her plate and Sango, who also seemed deep in thought.
“Yeah, a lot has changed between us in the past year. Eventually, we're going to outgrow our little girl traditions because we'll have our own, separate lives.” Sango said, sounding a little depressed. Miroku caught that hint in her voice and reached for her hand under the table and held it gently. Sango smiled and looked a little better.
Kagome nodded sadly but perked up at a thought.
“Even though we'll be married and leading separate lives, we'll always stay close and try to keep up our little traditions as we grow older.”
They sat quietly for a while enjoying each other's company, all indulged with their own thoughts. Inuyasha though, looked like something was gnawing at the back of his mind, as if in serious consideration of something. He wanted to do something with Kagome, alone, after celebrations were held. On his birthday, she did something special for him, by giving up her virginity with him, but this was her first birthday with him too, so he wanted her special surprise to be immaculate and memorable as possible. He looked back and forth between Kagome and her father, trying to put his thoughts together. He wanted permission from her father for what he was planning to do 4 nights from now, the supposed party date for Kagome and Sango, Kagome's real birth date, when she would turn 17. Since he was almost a member of her family and her father finally accepting him, he, with little doubt, thought that Dad would accept his idea.
After a while, he excused himself and asked Dad if he could discuss something privately with him. Dad, with a concerned face, curtly nodded and excused himself as well. Kagome looked at the two men leaving the table, looking slightly baffled as to why but didn't concern herself. Wanting to break the silence, Mom started a cheerful conversation on where each was going on their honeymoon. Both Sango and Kagome blurted out several ideas and each had a different destination in mind. Miroku sat back, chipping in a word or two, agreeing or disagreeing with his excited fiancé. He looked back to where his best friend and Mr. Higurashi went, wondering what they were quietly discussing. Knowing that it was secret, he looked back from the living room, where the two where currently standing and talking, and continued with the honeymoon issue. Since it was a first birthday that coincided with their engagement, Sango came at the forefront of his mind, staring happily at her, while thinking of a special gift for her. Kagome would occasionally look back and forth between herself and the perfect romantic honeymoon to her temporarily human fiancé and her Dad. He had his arms folded and his facial expression possessed a calm, deep thought feature while Inuyasha was talking to where only he could hear, hands gesturing with every sentence he spoke. There seemed to no tension between them, which was a great relief to her. Dad seemed to be considering with whatever the issue was being talked about with a quick nod now and then.
Sango, being overly excited, ranted on about whether to honeymoon in the beautiful white sand beaches of Hawaii or the pleasurable romantic atmosphere of Italy. Miroku knew that wherever they went, they would be happy and content about it. He didn't know where to choose but he would agree with whatever Sango decided in the end.
Kagome spoke also about her and Inuyasha's possible honeymoon destination. They spoke about it earlier during their cabin getaway and it will possibly be, most likely the secluded, peaceful, tranquil atmosphere of Tahiti. Sango was more adventurous and outgoing, so Hawaii or Rome would be perfect. Kagome, was more of a relaxed, quiet and nature loving girl, so Tahiti best suited her, but still could be as outgoing when she wanted to be. Since the groom's families were paying for the honeymoons, the men would undoubtedly agree with whatever their fiancé's final choice was.
Inuyasha and Dad came back a few minute later, quietly sitting back down and entered the conversation. Inuyasha had a smug grin showing and Dad went back to his usual stern expression but sounded happily. Kagome had to wonder what that was about. She looked at Inuyasha with a questioning glance. He whispered softly into her left ear, about it coming later, after the small party, where they would be alone for the rest of the night, with the last part said seductively. She closed her eyes and chuckled warmly. He kissed her cheek for a few seconds before leaning back. Miroku looked briefly at him and mouthed `what did you do?' Inuyasha mouthed back `later' and winked. Miroku nodded understandingly, apparent with his smug expression. Sango glared back and forth between the two males and stopped at Kagome, who had a small smile. Sango nodded toward Inuyasha and Kagome's closed smile grew and shrugged her shoulders. In conclusion, Sango believed that Inuyasha said something to her but doesn't know what it is. Souta and Kohaku got bored easily when the romantic talk started and refrained themselves from not saying anything of the sort.
Well as the days moved by, Kagome and Sango were getting more irritated and perplexed as to why their respective fiancé did more running around and didn't bother to tell them. With their small party being set on Kagome's actual birthday, Mom and Dad also with little difficulty refrained themselves from telling them anything at all and Souta and Kohaku kept their distance as well. Seeing that they weren't getting answers yet again from anyone, the two agitated girls decided to spend as much time as possible as the mall and the spa, getting daily facials, releasing their rising tension. Mom and Dad kept quiet while speaking to Sango's folks about what's up. Miroku went and asked if he could do something with Sango afterwards. He was told by Inuyasha at what his surprise gift was to Kagome and came up with pleasant ideas of his own. Dad explained to Mom after the lunch that day of what Inuyasha planned to do with their daughter and immediately thought about how happy Kagome was going to be. While all of this was happening, Ayame was away with her own family to visit some relatives down South but would be back in time for her two favorite friends' small party.
As they day approached, they were growing more anxious. The girls wanted to have their party at a nice, quaint log cabin/wilderness restaurant. After being in the mountains for a week, they felt it would be quite pleasant. The Blue Mountain had manmade waterfalls everywhere, with the walls inside had a rocky appearance and outside walls consisted of pure oak logs which made it look like a log cabin out in the wilderness. It was quite spacious inside with many dozen tables and chairs, all made of pure oak and pine. The aroma smelled like an actual forest, which made this restaurant a popular relaxing establishment. The food, which was considered to be some of the best around, mainly featured seafood, rice, and consorted meats. Their desserts were considered phenomenal: mainly fruit and spiced ones. It was hard to get reservations but luckily Sango's Dad and Dad were able to reserve a party of 14 for 5:30 that night. The party will include Kagome and her family, Sango and hers', Miroku and his parents, Inuyasha and his mother, and Ayame. Rin and Sesshomaru were invited as well, but were currently in Tokyo so they couldn't make it. The Blue Mountain was approximately 10 miles away in the neighboring small city so each would be getting there via 4 cars and would take about 45 minutes.
Kagome and Sango were getting ready with both families downstairs, waiting for the others. Sango was told by Miroku to dress as wild as she could but also comfortable. So Sango found the perfect outfit.
She wore an Electric Indigo colored princess cut sleeveless shirt with the phrase, colored in crimson lettering outlined in white `Respect Me or DIE!' underlined, also in white. She had Khaki short-shorts accompanied with a smooth, white belt. She wore white low heeled, open toed, and strap sandals. She had her shiny chocolate, butt-length hair in a high ponytail and applied her face with lip gloss and matching indigo mascara. The only jewelry she had on was her engagement ring and favorite pair of earrings from Miroku. She had the wild look going but kept it comfortable.
Kagome had a different look. Inuyasha also told her to dress as enticing as she could but to a point where her parents would approve. It was a Royal Blue colored tube top with a single plastic diamond in the center. She had a hip length, collared light jean jacket with a larger version of the diamond on the back. She also had short-shorts which were pure white with the exception of a simple silver star with clothing companies' initials where the cuffs were absent. She also wore open toed sandals minus heels, which were also white. Her ebony and gold streaked hair, which was a little shorter than Sango's was left down, but was curled lightly by her face. The only make-up she wore was lip gloss and she wore her lucky crescent-star pendent, engagement ring and matching bracelet as her only jewelry.
Both girls checked each other for any flaws but smiled when they saw that they were gorgeous.
“Man, Sango, you're looking absolutely hot! Wait until Miroku sees you!” Kagome excitedly said. Sango was indeed looking as pretty as she could be. Sango laughed openly as she crossed her arms and looked her best friend up and down.
“You look so sexy in that outfit yourself! I can't imagine Inuyasha looking at anyone else tonight.” Looking serious for a moment, a certain thought crossed her. “Do you have any idea where he is taking you after?”
Kagome shook her head as she settled.
“Nope, I'm pretty sure Miroku has something up his sleeve for you guys tonight as well.” She answered as they grabbed their purses and made some final adjustments.
“Yeah. If he goes too far tonight, I'll knock him out! My shirt says just that! One thing I do know is that he'll be staring at my legs as they're pretty much exposed for everyone to see.”
“Is that the reason we bought theses shorts, Sango? You said yourself how you wanted Miroku to stare at no other but you tonight and that outfit will do just that.” Kagome reminded her while adjusting her tube top, which showed a fair amount of cleavage but not too much.
“And I think I regret that decision now, now realizing how much attention I'll get from him this evening.” Sango said while straightening out her hair in the mirror.
“Too late to change now, because I hear cars pulling up.” Kagome announced she rushed to her window, which confirmed her hearing.
“Let's go Sango! We need to hustle if we're going to make it in time!” She yelled behind her as she checked her cell phone, which read: 4:30. They exited out of the room and strolled down stairs to see both families waiting patiently and by seeing them they were complimented on their choice of attire. Both Moms were stifling a few tears because of how much they've both grown.
Dad heard the cars pull up and went outside to greet the arriving guests. Inuyasha and Miroku drove their own cars with their parents with them and Ayame drove up a minute later with her own car. Inuyasha and Miroku looked similar with men tank tops, with Inuyasha's red while Miroku's is black along with baggy blue jeans and sneakers. They then saw everyone else step out and into the street. Miroku, just as Sango had predicted, were at her legs. When she got to him she kissed him briefly and she whacked him upside the head to get him out of it. Inuyasha, on the other hand had to restrain himself from inappropriate comments due to the younger children and the parents. She smiled as she strode up beside him, looking just as delicious as she. He grabbed her and planted a heavy kiss to which Kagome leaned into. Dad shook his head in disbelief and came over and whacked his future son-in-law in the back of his head, signaling that could wait until later and to get going. Everyone chuckled softly as they saw the happy couple brake apart, looking slightly embarrassed and all got into the waiting cars.
In Inuyasha's red convertible, Inuyasha drove, with Kagome in the passenger seat, along with both their mothers. Miroku's black convertible consisted of himself, driving, with Sango in front with him and his mother and her mother. All fathers drove in Dad's spacious Jeep, which he allowed NO one else to drive and Ayame had the greatest honor by driving the annoying pests also known as Souta and Kohaku. She fumed in silence, asking above why she had to do this. Dad's Dark green Jeep led the way, followed by Ayame's small mini-van, Inuyasha and Miroku finally in the back.
They got there with 15 minutes to spare. As their reservations were confirmed, they were lead into The Blue Mountain, which looked pretty full, but the party had the special back room to themselves. All was set for them and all ordered their desired dishes and drinks. The room in which they were sitting looked much like a forest, complete with waterfall. Gifts were set aside in a corner as everyone chatted away, waiting for their meals. As the indulged in their dinner, all the rumors of the Blue Mountain's food was, indeed truly scrumptious and appetizing. After the main course, Kagome and Sango were shocked to see a huge cake set in front of them both. Apparently it was made by the Blue Mountain but they were told that was especially for them by the parents. It had many assortments of fruit on top the icing and it was made with the restaurant's spices in the inside, atop with 17 glowing candles. Both were speechless as all around them sang out the birthday song. They were smiling out of embarrassment as they sat in front of their cake and together blew out the candles. While they ate cake, their gifts were being brought to the table, both brought by the same person. Sango received mostly clothes, a few CD's and with her cards came a check for a certain amount of money, for which she was grateful and thankful for everyone. Miroku was the only one that didn't give his gift because it was coming later as promised. Kagome got clothes as well, along with make-up and a single picture frame made from silver. All her cards were enclosed with checks as well. As with Miroku did with Sango, Inuyasha was giving his gift after.
Soon after pictures throughout the meal and afterwards, all were set to head home. The only difference in car arrangements is that only Inuyasha and Kagome were driving off alone and Miroku with Sango in his convertible and were heading somewhere too. Everyone stood out in the parking lot before saying good night and goodbye. Dad was still nervous about his baby girl going off alone but decided that she wasn't going anywhere as long as Inuyasha was with her. All parents warned their children about not doing any funny stuff and to have a safe night. Sango and Kagome wished each other the best as they separated from each other and their parents.
Both cars headed in the same direction until they hit town and headed off in different directions. Kagome was getting excited and constantly looked at her man with a wide grin. When they hit the outskirts of town, Inuyasha told her to blindfold herself until they reached the place.
“You better not be kidnapping me or else you'll be thrown in the slammer.” She joked as she tightened the blindfolded.
“Oh yeah, I'll be holding you ransom until I get what I want! Mwahahahaha!!” She heard him in a rough and threatening tone. She crossed her arms and shook her head.
“Smartass…so are you keeping to the road? I don't want to die on my birthday and I know how crazy you are when you're behind that wheel!” She hollered the last sentence as she felt the car pick up speed causing her grip the seat.
“Do you doubt my sense of direction or are just plain scared?” He asked sarcastically. She knew he was enjoying this even though she couldn't see anything at the current time.
She breathed heavily through her nose, her nostrils flaring, trying to remain calm and collected but she knew him well enough that everything he did was to either torture or scare her. She failed miserably.
“As soon as I remove this cloth from my eyes, you better run because I intend to kill you!” She threatened, her fist shaking to emphasize her point. “Even though that you have your demon speed, I can keep up with you and you know it!”
He laughed silently as she made threats with the blindfold. They were almost there and he could hardly contain his sense of sanity.
“Yeah, keep telling yourself that until you believe it!” He teased as he easily caught her fist in one hand while balancing his other on the wheel.
She growled in frustration as she felt her hand caught.
“Just be lucky you're driving or I'd take you out now!” She then felt his hand entwine with hers and slowly relaxed. She gave a light squeeze and felt his lips to her hand. She sighed, figuring out how he could be pushing her buttons one minute but then be completely sweet and romantic the next.
“Inuyasha, where are we going?” She wondered, sounding excited and unsure. She figured that they were about 25 minutes from the town's furthest point.
“You'll see, baby. Just a few more turns and we'll be there. I think you're going to love this.” He spoke gently as they turned into a road off the main road, still holding her hand.
“Anything you do for me I'll love. I've always appreciated the stuff you do for me and I love you for it…every single minute of it.” She answered with such truth and love she kind of felt overwhelmed at the softness of her voice.
His answer was another loving kiss on her hand. They were going up a slight hill and they turned one more time before coming to a stop a few feet after.
“Now can I remove this thing?” She asked in frustration, pointing to the cloth that was still blinding her.
“Hold on just a minute. I will lead you out of the car so you don't do something stupid like fall and trip.” He said quickly before getting out and getting something or some things from the trunk.
“Fall and Trip, huh? He's got nerve! With me blindfolded, I'm going to blame him if do.” She mumbled quietly, waiting impatiently now. `I wonder what Miroku did with Sango. I hope she can handle him for a night alone or he will die. Miroku can be romantic at times when he's with her alone so I know that she's in good hands…figuratively speaking.' She laughed at the last remark.
After a few minutes of shuffling and closing the trunk door, he opened her door and pulled her out. He guided her by holding her waist and leading her in front of him. She moved her arms in front of her so she could get a feel for what she couldn't see, as well as keep on balance.
`It's pretty quiet so I'm guessing that we're somewhere….wait, I can hear the crickets and the grass under my feet. Where has he taken me? It smells so…fresh and serene. It's so cool out here…it's so soothing.' From her blinded analysis, they were most likely outdoors. She took everything in and breathed out a pleasurable sigh, feeling at ease. They walked for a minute when the grip on her waist was pulled back.
“Why did you stop? If I fall flat on my face….” She warned him lightly. The wind picked up a little causing her hair to sway. She felt the blindfold loosen but it seemed like he was stalling.
“I had no idea what I should give you, but when I found out about this place, I knew I just had to show you. Your father told me about something you use do as a kid and I knew you would just love it up here.” He explained, still holding the cloth in place.
“Like I told you, I'll love anything that you should give me. I don't judge people on what gifts they give but the thought that comes with it. Now will you please remove this thing before I have to take you down?” She kidded. He laughed and slowly removed from her face. Before it was completely off, He whispered in her ear, “Happy Birthday, Kagome” and lifted it completely off.
Kagome was breathless at the stunning sight before her. She gasped at the amazing view and stared across the horizon not believing what was before her. They were standing at a cliff top and before them in the distance were streaming lights, the outline of a city. The only city that came to her mind was Tokyo, because that's the only major city closest to their hometown. Which made it even more breathtaking was that a waning moon was shining above them, complete with a cloudless night with many shimmering stars in the blue velvet sky. “Oh my, God...” She mumbled, raising her hand to lightly touch her lips. She felt arms wrap around her waist and a light pressure on her shoulder, which she knew to be Inuyasha's head. She sighed and raised her hand to rub his cheek. `How he came about this place, I'm deeply glad he did. The view is so extraordinary I never knew that such a sight could even be possible to glance down upon.' They continued to stare down for a while before Kagome spoke up.
“I can't believe that you did this for me. Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought that you would take me all they way up here to see this. I have no doubt that this is one of the best gifts that I ever been given.” She sniffed back the oncoming tears and wiped her eyes, which were reflecting the city and the billion stars that beautifully littered the night sky.
He kissed her cheek repeatedly, each with more love. He then led her to a blanket a few feet away.
“You know that I'll do anything for you. Nothing can come close on how much you mean to me. I love you with all my being.” They sat upon the blanket, with Kagome removing her jean jacket and shoes, which her feet were throbbing at this point. Even for a July summer night, the air was surprisingly cool and soothing and removing the jacket was a relief. Inuyasha was currently staring at how much skin was being exposed before him. Only wearing a tube top that left little to his imagination and the shorts that revealed most of her legs was nothing but pure torture. He had to bite his tongue many times in front of everyone before because One: Her parents were present, Two: Souta and Kohaku were too young to be hearing such things, and Three: Well, it would embarrass himself and her in front of their families. He could only get away with minor kissing and holding hands under the table. But now…here they were alone and no one was there to interrupt. He grew a devilish smile while he continued to look at her fantastic body, which at the moment she was stretching her arms, while also stretching her stomach muscles. She knew that he was enjoying the view she was giving him and did to just torture him. She watched him while she stretched; teasing while grinning inwardly that she could do that to him even after all this time.
“Are you enjoying the view?” She asked, sitting back on her hands, crossing her legs in a seductive manner. During the night, she practically had the same thoughts as him but couldn't even say what she wanted to but with them so far from home, she intended to get out her frustrations. Still, they made the promise of not making love until the honeymoon to her parents, but kissing him all over will at least release at least some tension.
He just removed his shoes when he slowly crawled over on his hands and knees and now had one arm on each side of her, directly at eye level with her.
“You have no idea. Do you know how long I wanted you alone? Too damn long!” She giggled and kissed him as though she was deprived. He forced her down with the force of the kiss and was now quickly devouring her. He knew not to go all out and remembered the one promise to her parents, but that didn't mean that he couldn't love all over her.
After some deep and heavy kissing, they laid back down, catching their breath. It got a little too heated so now Inuyasha was tank-topless, not even the cool night could completely calm and cool him down. He had his head resting on her stomach, one hand unconsciously rubbing it. Kagome was resting with one arm supporting her head while her other was gently rubbing his arm upon her belly. She was staring directly above into the sky, seeing the countless stars, thinking back to a childhood memory.
“You know when I was about 8 or 9 years old, Dad took me outside to our backyard and showed me the many stars that were out that night. He told me about the different planets and possible life out in the endless universe. I was entranced about how knowledgeable he was and seeing him talk about the sky and what was out there made me want to grow and be smart like him, all while I continued to gaze above. Then there was shooting stars that came into view and wondered, seeing that I never seen them before. `Those are shooting stars' he told me. `They say that if you wish upon one of them, your wish will eventually come true.” And that's exactly what I did. I never believed that it would prove true until just recently.”
“And what was that wish?” Inuyasha asked, lifting his head to catch her gaze. She smoothed his hair back, smiling contently.
“It was to have you back in my life again. I'd always hoped that our paths would cross again and wishing on that special star helped me more to believe that. Being that young I didn't know what love was. As I grew older and realizing from all those feelings, I knew that I fell in love with you.”
He rested his cheek again on her abdomen, tired but completely relaxed. Now that they had a definite future, what would be happening? He kept thing about starting a family as soon as they were married. These and other thoughts plagued his mind for the past few months. Without realizing it, he started planting soft kisses upon her stomach, visualizing their future children, about what they would look like. They would be growing inside her and would continue to grow when seeing the world for the first time.
Kagome looked puzzled at his sudden behavior. She didn't mind the attention he was giving her belly, but couldn't help but wonder that there was something he was deeply in thought about. She felt that something was nagging at his mind and was a little too shy to say anything.
“Baby, what's wrong?” She asked, trying him to open up while sounding concerned yet curious. She sat up, propped up by her elbows, looking into his eyes.
He looked up to see her eyes, filled with so much passion and curiosity he couldn't help but smile.
“Nothing, I was just thinking about what our future holds in store for us.” He looked back down, his thumb still rubbing across a small area of her stomach.
She thought for a minute on what he could be referring to. Then it hit her like a bunch of heavy rocks! The future, the soothing sensations and kisses on her, the unsure look in his eyes, it all made sense. She put her hand on top of his, stopping him and causing him to look back at her.
“You want kids, don't you?”
Her answer was him pulling her back down so that her head and arm was resting on him. She nuzzled her head against his bare chest, hearing his pulsing heartbeat, which was naturally soothing to her.
“Oh my God, I had no idea that you would want to have children. Why didn't you tell me sooner? You didn't have to have it cooped up inside.” She told him.
He held her closer, his grip tightening.
“I was a little scared to say anything. I know you have so much to think about already and if I mentioned kids…” He couldn't even finish the sentence, not knowing what else to say.
“To tell you the truth, I've given it some thought. Starting a family with you, I would have no doubt because I want to have your kids. That's something I've wanted ever since our first night together.” She stated, feeling better to have it out in the open.
Inuyasha felt better with her confession. He was unsure of how to express on the subject but hearing that she would want nothing more to have his children, he was glad that it was cleared.
They talked into the night, about future children and imagining what the future would bring. Talking about the past year, reminiscing on years past during their childhood, it was made perfectly clear that they could tell each other anything. They ventured to the subject of the wedding, the double wedding that would take place 11 months from then and the possible decision about honeymooning in Tahiti. They laid there all night staring above, snuggling and deep kissing throughout. One of the other things he brought her there for was the sunrise. It was almost as beautiful as the ones back at the cabin.
“This is something I'll never forget for as long I live. I still can't fathom at why you did this. Doing something this meaningful and caring, makes me love all the more. I somehow knew that nothing would stop you from caring for me.” This was said as the sky got lighter, meaning the sun would be soon rising.
“It's because I'll love you more than you'll ever realize. And you're right, I will never stop caring nor will I let anything happen to you. I will always be there by your side, Kagome, I promise you that.”
She crawled up upon his chest, getting teary-eyed. She cupped his handsome face and gave a long, loving kiss that hopefully expressed that she felt the same way. He pressed her into him, arms wound tightly around her small yet fragile frame. She then rested with head in the crook of his neck, caressing his broad chest. She closed her eyes, starting to fall asleep quickly but kept awake until the sun started to rise. Unable to hold her eyes open any longer, she fell into a deep sleep, dreaming about the wonderful night she and Inuyasha shared.
Realizing that she was asleep, he picked her up and placed her in the car and they drove back to their small town. When he reached her house, he saw Miroku's car in front of Sango's. Miroku took her to a beach where they also spent the night. Sango was a beach lover so it was perfect. While Kagome was a star gazer, Sango preferred to listen to the soothing sounds of the waves. Both girls slept through the whole day, due to the exhaustion of the previous day and staying up and talking until the sunrise
~Tell me what you think of the sequel…I need encouragement to continue! I had some success with my first story and I would like to know about this one. ~
