Chapter 12



Sesshomaru woke up and found that Kagome had gone. Not long after Sesshomaru had gotten out of bed, Inuyasha was wide awake. Inuyasha smelled Kagome’s weak scent and started to follow it toward the kitchen with Sesshomaru right behind him. As soon as they got to the kitchen, they saw the little kitsune being tended by Ayame.

“Hello my lord.” Ayame said as she bowed.

“Who is this and how did he get into my palace?” Sesshomaru demanded.

“My lord, this is a kitsune named Shippo. Lady Kagome found him in a weak and injured state in your garden. He says his mother was burned and his father was killed and is now an orphan. Lady Kagome has asked me to take care of him until she got back.” Ayame explained.

“Where is she?” Inuyasha finally spoke up.

“She is in the village the kitsune came from. She went to see the youkai that has destroyed his village. It is in the southern lands just on the boarder of the western lands.” Inuyasha started walking out the door when he suddenly stopped and smelled a very familiar scent.

“The wolf. What is he doing here?” he asked.

“I don’t know but he has brought every wolf in the west here.” Sesshomaru answered. He suddenly looked towards Ayame. “I hope you had nothing to do with this.” He said to her.

“No, my lord. I would never betray my master. Not even if my life depended on it.” Ayame rejected. Sesshomaru immediately put up a barrier around the palace. Inuyasha went out the palace door and looked around.

“Get out here and face me, ya mutt!!” he screamed. Kouga stood right outside the barrier. “What do ya want?” Inuyasha asked demandingly.

“I came to get my woman, dog breath!!” Kouga threatened. At this Sesshomaru came out and stood next to Inuyasha.

“She is not your woman. Turn around and go home wolf prince.” He said with force.

“Feh, I’ll go home as soon as I get my woman.” Kouga said.

“You would have to get through us to get her.” Inuyasha yelled.

“Kagome is already taken. She is mine and Inuyasha’s mate. She belongs to us.” Sesshomaru yelled.

“She doesn’t belong to you if I slaughter you like pigs.” Kouga said simply.

“You have no power insolent wolf.” Sesshomaru said coolly.

“Oh but I have. I have more power and now it can allow me to walk right through your barrier.” Kouga said simply. He then walked through the barrier as the Inu-brothers stared in shock.

‘Nothing could get through my barrier, shards or no shards. Where did he get such power?’ Sesshomaru thought. Kouga started toward the hanyou and lashed his claws. Inuyasha dodged it and brought out the already transformed Tetsuseiga. Sesshomaru’s nails glowed yellow as he prepared to claw whip Kouga.

“I will have her. She’s my woman and I’m gonna take her by force!!” At this Sesshomaru growled and tried to slash at Kouga but he was too fast and avoided his attacks. Kouga put a long gash down Inuyasha’s leg and back. Inuyasha fell to the ground and lay in his own blood as his vision started to fade. He saw one last blurry picture of Sesshomaru kneeling down with pain and a sudden blast of wind.



Kagome saw the palace with Sesshomaru’s barrier flickering. She let a tear escape from her black demonic eyes as the dragon flew faster. The stanch of blood filled her nose as well as Kouga’s wolf scent. As Kagome saw from over head, Kouga had just slashed Sesshomaru’s stomach and saw Inuyasha lying in his own blood. Kagome’s black demonic glow grew as she yelled.

“Get your fucking hands off of my MATES!!! NOW YOU DIE!!” The great elemental dragon turned into a black ball as Kagome threw it at Kouga. Kouga looked at the giant black ball hurtling towards him. Kagome immediately put up a second barrier that covered the entire palace and her, leaving Kouga outside with the deadly dragon. Kagome watched the ball of destruction create a crater in the ground. As the smoke cleared away, she saw that every thing had been destroyed. Kagome had let down her barrier and walked toward the hole in the ground. Kagome’s eyes returned to normal as she saw Kouga’s mangled body covered in his own blood. She turned around and ran towards Inuyasha and Sesshomaru. She took Inuyasha and lifted him up.

“Inuyasha? Can you hear me?” Inuyasha hadn’t responded. Sesshomaru had already bandaged himself and was now walking over to Kagome and Inuyasha. Kagome took off his haori and shirt to examine his wounds. Along his back were five lines indicating claw marks that cut real deep. Kagome and Sesshomaru took Inuyasha by the arms and carried him inside the palace. Kagome set him on a table and started to get out healing herbs and bandages.

“Don’t use that. You are a hanyou now. You have healing powers in you saliva. You need to lick his wounds.” Sesshomaru said as he took the herbs and bandages away from her. Kagome had an eyebrow raised.

“Why can’t you do it?” she asked.

“You need to get used to it. You must discover your demonic powers.” He explained. Her demon eyes flickered crimson as she bent down and started to taste Inuyasha’s blood. Surprisingly, Kagome had found this taste delicious. She licked his wounds until she found her work satisfying. Kagome took the bandages from Sesshomaru and started to wrap them around Inuyasha’s upper body. She then lifted his pant leg to his thigh and started to lick his leg injury. After she was satisfied, she wrapped it up and looked at Sesshomaru for a response.

“He’ll be walking around like us by tomorrow. You did fine.” He finally spoke. He then called Ayame and Kagura for assistance.

“Change him and put him to bed.” Sesshomaru ordered. They bowed and carried Inuyasha out of the room.

“We need to go find Shippo.” Kagome said as she walked toward the kitchen.

“Shippo!” she called but no one answered. “Shippo, it’s okay. The danger is gone.” Kagome said. Shippo’s scent was very faint but she tried to follow it. She followed the scent upstairs to the second floor and went to fifth room on the left. ‘This is Sango’s room.’ She thought. Kagome opened the door and was surprised at what she saw. Sango was playing with Shippo on her bed.

“I see you’re having fun Shippo.” Kagome stated. Shippo stopped laughing but had a big smile on his face.

“I’m having so much fun with Ms. Sango. She’s really nice.” Shippo laughed.

“And I’m having so much fun with Shippo.”

“Hey Sesshomaru, I heard that you had a girl named Rin.” Kagome said curiously.

“You heard correctly. She is in her room most of the time. She is an orphan like this young kitsune. She has traveled with me after I had found her. She still misses her parents.” He explained.

“Take me to her.” Kagome asked. Sesshomaru turned around and walked out the door with Kagome closely behind. He only walked past seven doors when he stopped in front of a door that was labeled:

Second floor

Sesshomaru twisted the handle and opened the door. He stepped aside to let Kagome in first, and followed her inside. Kagome looked over toward the bed to find a short raven-haired girl lying on the bed. She wore a red kimono with white sakura blossoms and Sesshomaru’s family crest in black. Kagome walked over to Rin’s bed side and sat down next to her. She saw a small tear escape from Rin’s eye.

“I’m going to enter her dream.” Kagome told him. He nodded as she reached for Rin’s hand. Kagome concentrated until she saw an image of Rin and her parents. It was mid day, the village looked so peaceful. Kagome saw the girl’s parents swing her by the arms. She suddenly saw an army of bandits ride in. Kagome watched the bandits burn every house and steal every treasure. Rin and her family tried to run away until the bandits surrounded them. As one bandit beat her father, another gathered her mother, and another one held her back, making her watch her father die and her mother carried away to a group of women. Rin bit the bandit holding her and started running to the forest. She watched Rin get deep enough into the forest to hear her mother scream until there was silence. Kagome watched Rin kneel down and started to cry against a tree. Kagome mumbled a spell and walked up to the girl. Rin suddenly looked up and saw Kagome. Kagome kneeled so she could be eye level with Rin.

“Are you okay?” she asked.

“No. My okaa and otou were killed just a minute ago. I’m so sad. What is your name?” Rin asked.

“Someone you will know when you wake up from your dream. My name is Kagome. Remember my face and name young Rin. I will be there for you when you wake up.” Kagome said. She muttered a spell and started to walk backwards until she knew Rin saw that she had faded out. She watched the girl run back to her village. Kagome saw that the bandits had left and watched Rin run over to her parent’s bodies. The girl cried over them for what seemed like hours until a figure appeared from the distance. Kagome had on a warm smile when Sesshomaru stood over Rin.

“Please don’t hurt me.” Rin pleaded.

“I have no intention of harming you, ningen. I merely want to know what has happened here.” Sesshomaru said.

“My village was burnt down by a bunch of bad people. They also killed my okaa and otou. Now I don’t have anywhere to go.” Rin said with sadness breaking in her voice.

Sesshomaru looked in Rin’s watery eyes and said. “You may stay with me in my domain. There you may play as much as possible.” Rin looked at Sesshomaru with big eyes and a sweet smile.

“Arigato, umm….” She trailed off, not knowing the demon’s name.

“You shall address me as Lord Sesshomaru.” He replied.

“Arigato, Lord Sesshomaru!” Rin said happily. Kagome came back and saw Sesshomaru standing over her. She got up and kissed Sesshomaru. Kagome suddenly smelled his arousal and smiled at him as he blushed. She turned around and let Sesshomaru’s hands drape around her. He gently kissed her neck and nipped a few times until she gave him a not-now-maybe-later look. He smiled and turned to walk out the door with Kagome by his side.
