Disclaimer: InuYasha belongs to Rumiko Takahashi and I make no money from these stories….sigh.
The well house at the Higuarshi Shrine was usually dark and unused. No one thought to visit it when they visited the shrine. But on this day, a blue light flashed and radiated out of the well, although as usual nobody was there to see it.
Out of the well jumped a young man with golden eyes, long silver- white hair, and dog ears dressed in an archaic, red, kimono. In his arms he carefully carried a young woman who actually had claims to the shrine, since it belonged to her family.
“I can't believe it has been a two months since I was last home,” said Kagome as InuYasha put her down on the floor of the well house.
“Yeah, well this time I'm not in damned rut at least,” growled InuYasha, adjusting her mostly empty yellow back pack on his shoulder.
Kagome turned and grinned at him. Then she slinked up to him and grabbed the front of his haori in her hands.
“What, does that mean you don't want to fool around while we are here this time?” said Kagome wickedly.
“I didn't say that, wench,” said InuYasha, and bent down to give her a quick kiss on the lips. “But if your brother is around, forget it.”
“Okay, let's go see if we are in time for dinner,” said Kagome, turning and mounting the stairs leading out of the well house.
“Sounds great,” said InuYasha, coming up behind her. “I'm starved.”
They walked out into the cool evening air on to the grounds of the shrine, and headed for the house where Kagome's family lived. Ahead of them the lights from the house could be seen in the windows, and Kagome smiled. It felt good to be going home, but only if she had InuYasha with her. If they had been close before, they were inseparable now - especially with their secret plan to marry once Naraku had been defeated.
“Mom, we're home,” said Kagome, as she opened the front door and stepped in the house.
“Kagome!” said Mrs. Higurashi, coming out of the kitchen and wiping her apron. “And InuYasha is with you?”
“Right here,” said InuYasha, stepping through the door behind Kagome.
“Wonderful,” said Mrs. Higurashi brightly, and smiled indulgently at the young couple. “You are just in time for dinner. Kagome, come help me finish up and InuYasha can wait at the dining room table.”
Glancing at Kagome a moment and getting a reassuring smile, InuYasha nodded and headed for the dining room after putting down the back pack. Then Kagome followed her mother back into the kitchen.
The smells of Mrs. Higutashis cooking wafted out before Kagome got there, and she took a deep breath, savoring it. After feudal and camp fare, she always had a deeper appreciation of her Moms cooking when she returned.
When they had only been in the kitchen a moment, the phone rang.
“I'll get it,” said Kagome, and reached for the phone.
“Hello,” said Kagome.
“Kagome!” said Eri's unmistakable voice. “You finally got back!”
“Oh, hi Eri,” said Kagome. “Yes, InuYasha and I just got back a few minutes ago, in fact.”
“Your boyfriend is with you? Great!” Eri said. “I took a chance you might be home. I know you are not going to University, but there is a big going away party in Harajuku tomorrow night. You and InuYasha should come.”
At the mention of Harajuku, Kagome flushed and closed her eyes. Unbidden to her mind came the memories of the last times Kagome and InuYasha had been to the clubs in Harajuku. Her hanyou had been in rut, and she had been swept up by the powerful sexual force that possessed him. Would he ever want to go there again? Especially since that article had been written about them, he may be even more loath to go there. But it would be nice to see her friends, and try and enjoy some of the youthful pursuits of her own time.
“I don't know,” said Kagome. “I'll have to ask InuYasha.”
`Oh, please come!” said Eri. “I don't when we all be together again - this may be the last time.”
“Well, I'll let you know,” said Kagome. “I'll give you a call later. I have to help my Mom finish making dinner.”
They said good bye and Kagome hung up the phone with a sigh. Then she turned to see what her mother needed her to do.
“There are some placemats in that drawer,” said Mrs. Higurashi, pointing from where she stood by the stove. “Please get them out and put them on the table.”
As Kagome slid open the drawer and pulled out the place mats, an article that had been clipped out of the Tokyo Times caught her attention. She blanched as she saw the head line, and took it out of the drawer.
It read:
Mysterious Lovers Spotted Again
Harajuku, Tokyo - Last night in Harajuku, the mysterious and beautiful young lovers were said to be spotted again. The young people at Club Moishi Moishi were all buzzing about the couple seen on the dance floor. The young man's striking long silver hair and golden eyes created quite a stir among the young women there that night.
Rumor has it that they were seen on the express train that night. The young lovers were glimpsed by other travelers, pursuing their passion for each other in an otherwise empty train car. Their beauty and intensity left some wondering if what they saw could be real.
But we all know that they are real. The affect they have on the club goers of Harajuku when they appear is too real to be denied. And the magic that is left in their wake will go down in Harajuku legend. - Kaoru Yamagata
Kagome gulped and looked up. Her mother was smiling slightly as she saw what Kagome was reading.
“Oh, you found that,” said Mrs. Higurashi. “I decided to keep it, but was not sure if I should show you.”
Closing her eyes and bowing her head, a blush spreading on her cheeks, Kagome wondered if going to Harajuku was such a good idea after all…
A/N: For those of you who have read my infamous story, “Can't Get Enough,” this is the first thing that came to my muse, Lyris mind when she saw the first prompt for 30 Shards. It's a kind of sequel.
