Inuyasha walked distractedly down the dirt read. Someone called his name but he payed no attention. He was thinking about her...the girl he used to travel with. He told her that he didn't need her anymore since they found all of the shards of the Shikon no Tama. He was totally wrong. He still needed her...he still needed Kagome in his life.
"Inuyasha!"
Inuyasha turned around to see the monk, Miroku, walking toward him.
"What do you want? You interrupted my thoughts."
"Thoughts of Kagome?"
"W-what? No!" Inuyasha started blushing.
"Yeah, right." Miroku said. 'It's all right, Inuyasha, I have a girl of my own that I am missing.' "Well, I'll be seeing you, Inuyasha."
"Pheh, whatever."
Inuyasha really had missed Kagome. He now regretted telling her she should go to her own time and stay there. He even took the jewel from her so that she couldn't return whenever she wanted. He thought about how beautiful Kagome was in the morning sun and the light of the full moon. He thought about how she smelled every moment of every day, like fresh vanilla and winter. That scent always drove him crazy, which he couldn't show or take action on since they were looking for the shards of the Shikon no Tama. He thought about Kagome's smile, her brown eyes, her raven black hair, which was as soft as silk. God, he loved her and missed her. He felt so lost without the miko beside him, like his life had no meaning at all. Dammit, he kicked himself mentally for telling her he didn't need her anymore. That she was just there as a mere detector for the jewel shrads. He actually made her cry that day.
~Flashback~
The quest to find the jewel shards was over. Naraku was dead, Kikyo went to hell without Inuyasha, Miroku's Wind Tunnel was finally gone, and Sango had taken her brother, Kohaku, with her to find a new place to settle.
"Well, now what do we do?" Kagome asked.
"Well, you could ask the jewel for a wish." Miroku said.
"A wish? What kind of wish?" the miko asked
"Anything. Even to have Inuyasha fall madly in love with you."
"She doesn't have to do that!" Inuyasha shouted.
"Why not, Inuyasha?" the monk asked.
"Because I...I...'Cause I want to become a youkai! That's why!" Inuyasha shouted, blushing.
Miroku had gotten the picutre by seeing Inuyasha's blush. Kagome didn't have to wish for Inuyasha to fall in love with her because he was already in love with her. Everyone wondered if the hanyou really wanted to become a youkai or if he was just covering up his true intentions.
Inuyasha got close to Kagome and the miko started to blush.
"Kagome..."
"Y-yes?"
"There's something I need to tell you."
Kagome waited in anticipation.
"Kagome...You don't have to use the wish to make me a youkai. I don't really care about that anymore, but I think that you should go back to you own time now."
"What?"
"Our quest is over, Kagome. Naraku is dead, Kikyo's gone, the Shikon no Tama is back together. There's nothing left now."
"Are you saying you don't need me anymore?"
Inuyasha was silent for moment before nodding his head.
Kagome felt tears well up. "I see. So I was just a shard detector to you. Now that you have the jewel, you're just going to throw your wish away? You're going to give me up? I love you, Inuyasha!"
Everyone was a little shocked, although they all knew that the miko and the hanyou both felt something for each other.
"Kagome..." Inuyasha tried to touch Kagome's shoulder but she ran away.
"Kagome, wait!" Inuyasha tried going after her.
"Osuwari!"
The hanyou fell to the ground, face first into the dirt, leaving a small crater the size of his body. Kagome kept running until she reached the well and went home.
~End Flashback~
Inuyasha felt horrible after that. He wanted to crawl under a rock and die for making Kagome cry the way he did. He had to get Kagome back somehow, but he couldn't just go up to her and say, "I'm sorry. Will you take me back?". She would probably hit him with an avalanche of osuwaris and then leave him there in the hole he created. Inuyasha sighed. He didn't know what to do. He felt so incomplete without the miko beside him...Kagome, his Kagome...Everyone was right, he was a jerk for doing that to Kagome. The only one who stayed with Inuyasha now was Myouga, the loyal yet scaredy cat flea.
Sango had left because Inuyasha had been a jerk and now she had to make her own way to settle down. Miroku left because he wanted to pay his respects to his father and grandfather. Now that the Wind Tunnel was gone, he could tell them of his adventures and stories. Shippo left with Sango since he had nowhere else to go and he didn't want to stay with Inuyasha since the hanyou was such a jerk to Kagome and didn't want the hanyou to beat upon the kitsune. Without Kagome, nothing seemed right.
Inuyasha shook his head out of his thoughts, trying not to think of Kagome, but all he could do was think about the miko.
"Master Inuyasha? What is wrong?" Myouga asked.
"Nothing." Inuyasha gruffed.
"I know what is wrong. Someone you love is gone and you can't get her back. Would it be Miss Kagome?"
"No! How could you think such a thing? I told her to go home and I meant it. I don't need her anymore."
"I thought you wanted to become a youkai, Master Inuyasha."
"I did. I do, but I gave the Shikon no Tama back to Kaede.
"Ah...you cannot wish to become a youkai when someone else has the jewel."
"Yeah."
"Then why don't you ask for it back and go after Miss Kagome, Master Inuyasha?"
"Well, I told her to leave and not come back, so if I went after her, that would cancel out what I told her."
"Would that be such a bad thing?"
Inuyasha now spoke softly. "I suppose not...but she probably won't want to come back. She probably hates me now."
"The only way to find out is to go to her and ask."
"Yeah, but..."
"No, no. Miss Kagome is probably crying over you. She probably misses you as much as you miss her."
"Shut up, Myouga." Inuyasha swatted at his shoulder. "Stupid flea. What does he know?"
Inuyasha continued to walk down the road, trying desperately to think of anything other than Kagome, but to no avail. The harder he tried not to think about the miko, the more he thought about her. It was really driving him crazy. He didn't know what to do at this point. Should he go and apologize to Kagome or stay in the feudal era going crazy over her?
Inuyasha racked his brain for an answer but couldn't seem to come up with the right one. He wanted to stay in his own time, he didn't really like going to Kagome's time, and yet he wanted to see her again.
"Someone give me a sign!" the hanyou shouted.
Suddenly, he felt as if Kagome was in trouble. Not the kind of trouble that she usually got in when she was in the feudal era, but she seemed sad, almost...depressed.
Inuyasha took this as his sign that he had to see the miko from another time. He went to get the jewel from the village, which was handed over to him when he explained to Kaede why he needed it again, and left for the well.
Once on the other side of the well, the hanyou almost regretted going, but then he thought about how sad Kagome felt and regained his strength to see her.
As Inuyasha walked out of the well house, he ran into Kagome's grandfather.
"Hey, ji-san."
"Inuyasha, what a pleasant surprise. What, may I ask, brings you here?"
"I came to see how Kagome was doing. I...kinda miss her..." The last part was said under his breath as he blushed.
"I see. Well, Kagome is out with some friends right now. She'll be back a little later today. I think they went to the mall or something."
"Thanks, ji-san." Inuyasha said as he put on a baseball cap that Kagome had given him to wear around in her time and walked out of the temple.
Inuyasha made his way to the mall quickly, jumping on top of building after building, running at super speed.
'Gotta get to Kagome.' the hanyou thought.
Once at the mall, Inuyasha looked for Kagome, smelling for her. The scent of vanilla and winter wafted in the air, driving the hanyou crazy again. He stayed slightly behind as to not let Kagome notice him. He looked at Kagome, who smiled at her friends, but it looked...fake. She was faking being happy? But why? Maybe he had hurt her that badly when he told her to leave. Maybe she was depressed because he said such awful things to her. Inuyasha decided that he should wait for Kagome to return home before talking to her. He followed her around all afternoon, waiting, being driven crazy by her scent. He almost wanted to pin her down and ravish her body, but he had more respect for her than that. If he was going to take her and give himself to her it would be in private and hopefully more romantic.
Inuyasha could be surprisingly romantic if he wanted to be. He remembered the things he used to do for Kikyo when she was alive. He always wondered what it would have been like if he had made love to the miko of so long ago. Now he wondered what it would be like to make love to the miko of now. He would make up for the mean things he had said to Kagome, even if it killed him. He wanted to hold her in his arms, to feel her warmth against his body, the silkiness of her hair, the smoothness of her skin against his. He wanted to kiss her and show her how much he truly loved her.
Finally, Kagome headed home without her friends. Inuyasha followed at the same distance until he noticed something wrong with his miko. He jumped up and landed in front of Kagome.
"In-Inuyasha?!" Kagome asked, startled.
"Kagome..."
