Chapter 7: Sano's Village
The night passed without any incident. Everyone including Kagome had received the much needed sleep and after that when the sun came up they decided to set forth.
The dark clouds had abated and clear sky was again visible, the sun again adorned the blue sky as clouds fleeted by like fluffy masses of cotton, the gentle breeze that blew brought with it the sweet scent of flowers and fruits that were abundant in the forest. Everything was very calm until the peace was broken by the screams of Kagome.
“Inuyasha...!”
"What is it now?" Inuyasha asked, very much annoyed.
"Kill that!" Kagome said pointing towards the roof of the cave.
"Kill what?" Inuyasha looked up,"Keh, you're afraid of spiders?!"
"Inuyasha!"
Kagome was about to complete the quartet of sits in a matter of 2 days. But Inuyasha didn't give her a chance, he brought out his sword and...
"Wind-scar!"
The attack not only sent the spider into oblivion but also destroyed the roof of the cave.
"You fool!" Shippo barked as he helped himself out of the rubble that ensued Tetsusaiga's attack.
"Inuyasha!" Kagome's face was totally twisted and distorted with anger."Sit!"
Inuyasha crashed to the ground and the impact threw down some more debris on him.
Sunlight came in through the opening. It wasn't actually an opening the cave's entire roof had fallen in so, there was nothing above the group, except the wide blue sky.
"Can't you two stop fighting with each other," Miroku passed, what it seemed to be a harmless comment.
"Miroku!" Sango's voice had the same tone as Kagome's.
Miroku tasted Hiraikotsu after many years. Taking advantage of the situation, the monk had rubbed the bottom of Sango and he got the exact treatment for it.
The group left the cave that gave them refuge for the night and went ahead.
Inuyasha was still thinking about the incident of the previous night and so was Kagome but they didn't speak about it in front of everyone.
“How far is your village?” Inuyasha asked Sano.
“Not much far. I can see the ocean, it's near,” Sano answered as he pointed towards the ocean as the group was finally about to cross the forests.
The group passed the mountain standing on the boundary of the forest and the blue ocean became visible to them. Deep blue water of the ocean teamed with the playing of clouds in the sky and the bright golden rays of the sun made for an excellent view. The group was fed up of the green of the forests so the onset of a long blue stretch of the ocean reinstated their eagerness to reach their destination.
After a few more moments the group reached Sano's village. It seemed to be an ordinary village like the usual coastal villages. The village houses were built quite far away from the ocean. So the long stretch of the shore remained unhindered by human houses.
Sano and the group entered the village through the eastern entrance. There were two other entrances. The northern and western. The southern part was the shore and so it's better not to consider it to be a proper entrance.
Sano was leading the way to the village chief. But seeing an old man approaching, Sano stopped and so did the group.
“Hello Master Yoshi, I have brought the great monk along with me,” Sano said and bowed in front of the old man.
Yoshi was the village chief. His bald head shone in the bright sunshine like lustrous metals. He had grey mustache and that suggested his old age. He was an expert alcoholic as suggested by his red nose.
“And who are these people?” Yoshi asked about Inuyasha and the rest who had come with Miroku.
“These are his companions my lord,” Sano replied.
“Great monk our village is in trouble!” turning towards Miroku, Yoshi said.
“I know it Sir," Miroku replied. "Sano has told me everything, leave it to us.”
“Oh! Thank you," Yoshi said. "I will reward you after the work is done.”
“Reward!” Miroku's eyes started twinkling upon hearing that they were to be rewarded. “Most certainly lord we will appreciate whatever you can give us.”
“Tonight you must stay in our village, because it's the night when things take place,” Yoshi said.
“Yes Master Yoshi,” Miroku agreed.
“You will stay in that house,” Yoshi said, pointing at a house which was on top of a small hill.
Looking at the house pointed by Master Yoshi, the expression in the face of Sano somewhat changed. He was surprised at the choice of his lord and even tried to say something but was stopped by Yoshi, who with signs showed him not to utter a word.
The house was different from other houses of the village. It seemed to be better than the rest. It had a touch of royalty to it. Maybe the ruler of the area once lived in that but presently no one inhabited it. Inuyasha and the rest seemed to have no problems with the house and seeing that, Yoshi was quite pleased. Without wasting a moment he took the group over there and after making them comfortable, he and Sano left.
