InuYasha's Strength

Chapter 6
A Business Deal

“The frog was indeed fearsome. At least two inches long and huge green eyes it posed a giant threat.”

“Shut up InuYasha.” Kagome snapped.

“What's the matter Kags? Don't like frogs?” Miroku asked slyly.

“No, I don't like warts.”

“That's just a myth Kagome.” Sango offered from her chair.

“Ok fine. Still you try reaching into somebody's pocket and pulling out a frog.”

InuYasha, Miroku and Sango all looked at each other and blinked. Suddenly they all burst out laughing. Kagome just sat in her chair, turning red as her tempered flared fueled by slight embarrassment. She looked at all of them who continued to laugh at her angry expression. Sango, Miroku and their daughter Mai had come over for the weekend visit and dinner. Kagome had been feeling the effects of small-but- there contractions. Unable to take anymore of their antics, she struggled to stand catching the attention of InuYasha. He quit laughing and quickly went to her.

“What do you need Kags?”

“”That's all right InuYasha, I can get it myself.”

“No, just sit down and I'll get it.”

“I don't want to, I can myself a drink.”

“What do you want?” he asked as he walked in the house.

“To get up.”

“Come on Kagome let him get you something.” Sango reasoned.

“Yeah, you never know when another terror like the frog will show up.” Miroku said giggling.

“Oh come on Miroku.” Kagome pleaded. “Don't start it again.”

“I wasn't aware that we had stopped it.”

“Miroku.” Sango warned.

“Fine, I won't.”

“Kags what do you want?” InuYasha said as he still stood next to the door.

“TOO GET UP AND GET MY OWN DRINK!” Kagome was starting to get upset and InuYasha didn't want her to stress. Nonetheless, she wasn't going to win.

“A refill of iced tea it is.” He said as he walked into the house. He heard her sigh exasperatedly as he went in.

As he pulled the tea from the fridge, Miroku walked in holding two glasses in his hands.

“Two more refill please.”

“Get it yourself.”

“InuYasha is that how you treat your guests?

“Yeah actually-.”

“InuYasha!” Kagome called from the outside.

“On the way. Fine, give me your cup.”

Silence followed the sound of tea hitting the ice in the glasses. InuYasha knew Miroku was going to ask, he just wished he wouldn't.

“InuYasha.” Miroku started in a hushed tone. “Have you heard anything?”

“No and I don't know anything either. That bastard of a brother of mine has left me out of the loop for the most part. I don't know about the leads or-.” Suddenly the phone rang and InuYasha stopped. He looked at the ringing phone then at Miroku who had a pensive look on his face. InuYasha looked back at the blaring phone and sighed as he picked it up.

“Hello?”

“InuYasha.”

“What do you want?”

“Just calling to see how you and your mate are holding up.”

Miroku stood on the other side of the counter mouthing the words `who is it?'

“Nice of you to ask, we are doing just fine.”

InuYasha mouthed one word. `Sesshomaru.'

“Oh.” Miroku said in a bored tone.

“How are her contractions?”

“How the fuck do you know about that?”

“I was standing right there when the doctor warned you. Baka.”

“Look, what do you want? I've got company right now and I don't have time for this.”

“You don't have time to help your brother with the biggest business deal of our father's company history?”

“What?”

“We get to take over Naraku's company at long last; it is the biggest deal of our lives.”

“Yeah, and just one more reason for Naraku to come after me and my family.”

“We will catch him before he tries anything.”

“Yeah, he's planning something. If he wasn't then he would've attacked already.”

“I agree.”

“And if we were going to catch him we would've been able to already.”

“Not necessarily.”

“So, this company has offered itself on a silver platter?”

“Yes, with our combined experience I thought it would be a good idea to look over the suggested contract and the company's history before we do anything drastic.”

“Let me get this straight, you leave me out of the loop with Naraku, yet you want me to help with taking over his company?”

“Taisho Inc. could not be run with out both of its owners. You know this.”

“Yeah, but Kagome is still having small contractions- she could go anytime.”

“The choice is yours. We would leave on Friday if you should agree.”

“Friday? Why Friday?”

“Because it is the last day that the company is reviewing contracts from all other companies. I happen to know, our contract offers the best.”

“Where is this meeting?”

“Kyoto.”

“So it's not that far.”

“Not from where you live, no.”

“Fine, but the first sign of the baby I leave without a word.”

“That's fine. It's what I would expect.”

“Ok Sesshomaru, I'll see you Friday.”

Suddenly a loud crash came from outside. InuYasha dropped the phone as he heard a frightened cry.

“INUYASHA! SANGO'S WATER JUST BROKE!

Sango had the suitcase in the car just in case. Truly she hadn't expected it to come so soon, but as they say you can't tell a baby when it's to be born. Miroku helped her into the car carefully, he then loaded Mai in as well and they sped off to the hospital.

In his rush, Miroku had forgotten to call the hospital and telling them that they were coming. Fortunately, Kagome had planned for this as he had done the same thing when Mai was born and had the number just in case.

“Tokyo General.”

“Yes, my name is Kagome Taisho. I am a friend of Sango Houshi. I wanted to let the appropriate people know that her water broke about half an hour ago and we are en-route to the hospital now. We should be there in about five minutes.

“Do you know her doctors name?”

“Dr. Zarnecki.”

“All right, he's been paged. We'll be waiting!”

Kagome struggled to breathe as she tried to remain calm. InuYasha's driving wasn't helping though.

“InuYasha slow down!”

“I'm not going as fast as Miroku!”

“No, but then we aren't the ones having a baby at the moment either!”

“Kagome, stop bitching and let me drive. This gives me practice so I'm ready for when it is us!”

“MOOOOMMM!” Keitaro called from the backseat. “DAD CUSSED!”

“I know honey. InuYasha you are going to get it! AH!” Kagome covered her eyes as InuYasha swerved-narrowly missing a car. No matter what she did, closed her eyes, covered them-hid in her jacket she was still scared out of her wits. She prayed silently that her water wouldn't break just because InuYasha was getting `practice' for when her time came.

Relief flooded her body as they reached the hospital. InuYasha quickly found a parking spot and they hurried inside. When they got in the hospital, InuYasha was surprised to see Miroku and Sango pull up behind the doors.

“Oi monk! What the hell took you so long?”

“Why the hell were you driving like that InuYasha?” Sango asked out-of-breath.

“Yes, the way you were driving it seemed like you were the ones in labor.

“I'm surprised that you didn't go into labor Kagome.” Sango observed.

“Me too!” Kagome said surprised.

“Oh please.” InuYasha growled.

“Sango Houshi?” A nurse called. “Are you ready to have this baby?”

“More than ever.”
