Chapter 13

 

One of taking, Five years in the Making

Naraku waited in his car, hidden in the shadows of an alley not far from the police station. His plan was going along smoothly. Not only had the girl named him and pinpointed him, the evidence would soon be tampered with and be dismissed as an argument for the defense.

 

Yes, everything was going according to plan.

 

`Just a little while longer, and InuYasha will suffer. I will destroy all that he has come to love and take the one thing that matters the most. Kagome will be mine in less than a day while he rots in a prison cell.'

 

He watched as a police officer came out of the station and looked around. He flicked his lights once, catching the man's attention. He waited as the man approached his car.

 

“Well?”

 

“The evidence was sealed tightly, however we did manage to confuse it.”

 

“Confuse it?”

 

“Yes, instead of one sample we took two. The other sample is still undergoing the final stages of identification. Unbeknownst to the lab techs that are processing it, it will be a positive match to a paternal dispute.”

 

“Paternal dispute?”

 

“Yes, a fake one of course with my own information.”

 

“Very good.”

 

“Is there anything else you require of me?”

 

“Are the men assembled?”

 

“Yes. They are only awaiting your order to attack.”

 

“Fine. Kagome has been entrusted to Sesshomaru as well as InuYasha's spawn. Thus, we will have to wait until he is absent. Then we will make our move.”

 

“Might I suggest something?”

“Very well, what do you suggest?”

 

“Sesshomaru is in the final stages of taking over your company correct?”

 

“Yes.” Naraku said calmly although the vein in his head could be seen clearly.

 

“Make something happen to where he has to return to Kyoto. Then, delay him as long as you need to.”

 

“Excellent. We will have to wait for awhile though.”

 

“Sir?”

 

“We don't want him to think it a trap, now do we?”

Kagome said nothing as Kagura went around her room, packing for her stay with them. She stared out the window, looking to the horizon. Waiting- hoping. Wishing for her beloved to come through the trees at any moment.

 

Her thoughts were broken by a tiny hand.

 

“Mommy?”

 

Kagome looked down at her son as he took her hand.

 

“Keitaro.” She whispered as she knelt next to him.

 

“Mommy? Are you ok? I can smell you're scared and you're sad too. What's wrong? I promise to protect you! Daddy told me to always protect you when he was away, so I will protect you. I promise mommy.”

 

Kagome could hold no longer the emotion she had held within her heart for the last few days. Her world came crashing down with the birth of their daughter- what should've been a joyous occasion was suddenly one that went unnoticed. InuYasha had been ripped from her arms, accused of something so hideous that anyone who knew him knew him to be incapable of such a horrendous deed. Now, her son- the infant she had died to protect- promised to protect her, just as his father. She wept as she held her husbands likeness in her arms.

 

“Oh Keitaro.” She sobbed. “I love you so much baby.

 

“I love you too mommy. I promised dad that I would take care of you while he's gone and I will too.” Kagome held him tightly. A noise from the doorway brought her tears to an end as Kagura stood with Mieko in her arms.

 

“Kagome, InuYasha is not dead. He is only detained.”

 

“I-I still feel s-so lost w-with out him.” She hiccupped.

 

“Yes, but now is the time for you to be strong, not only for him but for his young. They will need their mother in this trial as well.”

 

“Kagura speaks the truth.” Sesshomaru said as he entered the door. “You are InuYasha's strength. If he looses you, he looses his will to live. Thus, the promise of death to one's mate should the other die. Thus, my promise to protect you as he cannot.”

 

Kagome stood, taking her son into her weak arms as she held him.

 

“Yes and he is mine. He saved me from Naraku more than once before. Not only my honor, but my life.” She said as she turned to Keitaro. “Not only my life, but those who matter most to me he has also saved. He has also given my two good reasons to be strong. His son and daughter will need me, just as their father needs me.”

 

Kagome looked up to the couple in the doorway.

 

“Thank you Kagura and Sesshomaru.”

 

“Shall we go?” Kagura asked with a smile.

 

“Well Keitaro?”

 

“Ok. But what about Nana and Spike?”

InuYasha sat in his cell staring at the ceiling.

 

`Why is this happening?' He thought to himself. He had gone over the events of the day and yesterday. He had passed the polygraph test, only to have the girl call him a liar and a rapist through a two way mirror. His thoughts turned from that scene to Kagome's beautiful face, the face of his son and newborn daughter. With those thoughts he prayed.

 

 

`God, please help my wife to be strong in this time of trials. Let her hear me and heed my words. Be strong Kagome. You were always there for me, I'm sorry I can't be there for you. God, protect my wife, son and daughter from all mine enemies. Naraku is out there. Please God, don't let him take them from me. Please God, end this. End this now!

'

 

InuYasha's prayers were interrupted as the cell door swung open and Myoga answered.

“Myoga! Tell me you have good news.”

 

“I'm afraid I don't InuYasha.”

 

“What? Why?”

 

“InuYasha Taisho, I am formally charging you with the rape and assault of Satsuki Kaguya. You are under arrest and ANYTHING you say can and will be used against you in the court of law.”

 

“Myoga you can't be serious!”

 

“The evidence came back just this morning InuYasha. I'm afraid it says that you did indeed lie. You raped that girl.”

 

“You've got to be fucking kidding me!”

 

“It is no laughing matter InuYasha. From here you will be taken to another cell and held until your trail begins. Until then, I suggest you contact your family.

Sesshomaru sighed as he brought in the rest of Kagome's and her children's things and set them in the guest room of his large home. He listened as Keitaro talked intently of going swimming while Kagome changed Mieko's diaper. He heard Kagome then agree to swimming after she had fed and laid Mieko to rest. He smirked. He hadn't seen a child running around in his home since Rin was small.

 

Rin. His little girl.

 

Rin had graduated from high school and was now in college in America. She and Kohaku had been close and to his knowledge (and consent) were still dating. He knew that soon, Kohaku would return and would have a question for him. Sesshomaru shook his head. Kohaku had been there since he was a boy of seven or eight. Now a strapping young man on nearly 21, Kohaku had earned his degree in Business management and was currently working for Sesshomaru. He managed a small but profiting business. Thus, Sesshomaru knew he was worthy of his daughter.

 

“Rin.” He thought aloud. His dear little girl, the only human he ever dare let open his heart. She had been the reason that he had married Kagura. The two had already planned on getting married, but had no plans on it being right away. Then Rin came along. The two fell in love with the little girl and married just so they could adopt her. She was almost one when the final adoption paper was signed. Now, his little girl was nearly nineteen and already she had proven herself ready to be on her own. She went from a legal clerk to legal assistant in a matter of months. She had then decided to attend a college in America to become a lawyer. He blamed Kagome for that. Rin had always believed that Naraku should've been punished as severely as Kagome had been found.

Rin Sakura Taisho. Lawyer extraordinaire and apple of her father's eye.

 

His thoughts were interrupted as the phone rang in his office. He quickly looked up from his place in the parlor to see if anyone was near. Sensing no one, he quickly got up and went into his office, shutting the door behind him. He felt a sense of dread come over him as he answered the phone.

 

“Taisho Residence.”

 

“Sesshomaru! They fucking have me nailed for this!”

 

“Calm down InuYasha. What do you mean?”

 

“I mean they have me pinpointed as the girl's rapist!”

 

“How?”

 

“I don't know. Myoga said the evidence proved I was the one who raped the girl.”

 

“We all know that isn't possible InuYasha.”

 

Just then, the door opened a little and Keitaro peaked in.

 

“Uncle Sesshomaru?”

 

“Ah, just the man I wanted to see. I have a task for you my young hanyou.”

 

“Don't fucking call him that!”

 

“Why not? It is what he is isn't it?”

 

“Maybe so, I don't want him to label himself as I did.”

 

“What do you need Uncle?”

 

“I have a very upset man on the phone right now.” Sesshomaru explained as he covered the phone with one hand. “I was wondering if perhaps you could talk to him. Calm him down for me.” Sesshomaru watched as a slight hint of fear crossed the boy's features, but was then replaced by one of compliance.

 

“Sure thing Uncle. Can I go swimming I do?”

 

“Yes, I'll even act as lifeguard.”

 

“SESSHOMARU!” Roared an angry InuYasha from the other end. “I don't have time to.”

Sesshomaru then switched the phone to speaker.

 

“Hello?” called a small an uncertain little boy. On the other end of the line, InuYasha's heart fell deep inside his belly. He had to swallow a couple of times, but he finally managed to speak in a firm tone.

 

“Keitaro?”

 

“Dad?” The little boy looked at the phone with a distraught look on his face. “Dad?” He called again, this time fear and emotion flooded his voice, making his father cringe.

 

“Hi son.”

 

“Dad! When are you coming home? Mom is real sad and she is always scared.”

 

“Well son, I don't know yet.” InuYasha fought his tears hard and struggled to keep his voice strong. “Keitaro, I need you to something for me.”

 

“What?”

 

“Keep your momma happy for me? I probably won't get out of here for a while, so. I need you to keep her happy for me. Help her with Mieko. Have her sing and dance with you just like you guys did last time I was away for a long time.”

 

“Ok.”

 

“Ok? And don't leave her alone. No matter what. Promise?”

 

“I promise dad. But-.”

 

“But what Keitaro?”

 

“DAD YOU'VE GOT TO COME HOME!” The little boy sobbed. “I MISS YOU! MOMMY MISSES YOU! I THINK THAT MIEKO MISSES YOU TOO!”

 

“Keitaro, I need you to be strong. Your man of our house until I return. It is your responsibility to care for your mother and sister. It' in your blood; youkai protect and help to keep their families happy. I need you to do that for me. Please Keitaro.”

 

“Ok dad.”

 

“That's my boy. Now, go swimming son. I'll be home as soon as I can ok?”

 

“Ok dad. I love you.”

 

“I love you too Keitaro. Give mommy and your sister a kiss for me, ok?

“I promise dad.”

 

“Thanks son. I knew I could rely on you.”

 

“Bye dad.”

 

“Bye son.”

 

With that Keitaro looked up at Sesshomaru with determination.

 

“I have to go give mommy and my sister a kiss. Then when I come back we can go swimming, ok?”

 

Sesshomaru felt himself smile and nod. He watched as the young boy ran from the room, eager to deliver the much need kiss to his mother and sister. Sesshomaru closed the door behind him and turned his attention back to the phone.

 

Silence.

 

“InuYasha?”

 

“I'm still here.” InuYasha said, his voice quivering.

 

“The evidence has been tampered with. I will send one of my own associates to find the flaw in this. I promise it won't take long.”

 

“You're promising me?”

 

“Consider it a promise to your mate and children.” His response was silence.

 

“Keitaro is my nephew, he can't make his mother happy like his father can.”

 

“How is Kagome doing?”

 

“She is depressed. Not only had she fallen into Post- Partum, but she feels as though you've been ripped from her grasp yet again.”

 

“I need to talk to her. But I can't right now. Myoga let me call because there are flaws with the evidence. Sesshomaru, I need to be there. Kagome needs me and I need her.”

 

“You need not tell me little brother. I have seen how you rely on her as she relies on you.

 

“Tell her I love her. Just. Tell her that I love her and to be strong. Protect her, please.”

 

“I will.”
