The Right to Survive
(I do not own ANY of the Inuyasha Characters, except Isa, Kayko and Shaka)
Large paws shook with each step they took, as Kayko circled the demon. The snake watched her, is mouth open tongue sticking out, hissing at her. Its teeth dripped of the poison that killed her parents years ago. Inuyasha continued to hold a struggling Isa, who wanted nothing more that to help Kayko fight it, her eyes wide with fear for her long lost friend.
The snake was the first to strike out at Kayko. Her body tensed as she pushed herself back, the snake's nose colliding with the dirt where she stood before. As Kayko landed far back from the snake, her legs shook as they gave out, Kayko falling to the ground in a heap. Isa whimpered from Inuyasha's arms as his grip tightened around her. The snake lifted itself up and shook its head, its nose bleeding from the sudden hit to the ground.
“GET UP! YOU'VE GOT TO GET UP KAYKO!” Isa yelled to her fallen friend.
Kayko's tired eyes looked over at Isa. Inuyasha's hold on Isa tightened upon hearing her call that wolf Kayko. Could that really be his sister? His attention was brought to Isa and her frantic state of mind. Isa's frantic eyes looked back at her before looking at the snake. Kayko looked up at the snake slowly getting her legs under her body. The snake had used the bottom half of his body to push the upper half of its body straight in the air, making himself taller than the white wolf. Its red eyes narrowed as it hissed at the wolf.
Isa struggled from Inuyasha arms as she pointed to a rock. It rose in the air and collided with the snake's head. Other rocks started to rise from the ground around Isa as they started, one by one, pelting the snake's head. It hissed in pain and anger, and as the last one hit him, his red eyes landed on the annoying half-demon. He started turning his attention to Isa when teeth struck his neck. Its eyes widened when breathing began to become hard.
Kayko lay on the ground watching the snake about to strike her till a rock hit him in the head. Kayko looked at Isa and smiled. When the snake looked at Isa, Kayko saw her chance. She pushed her self to her feet as she ran towards the long snake. Her back legs pushed her up as her jaws snapped around its throat.
The snake's body began thrashing, trying to loosen the jaws that held around its neck. Kayko's teeth only dug deeper into its throat as it thrashed. Kayko's claws came up, dragging down its stomach, cutting it more. Kagome's hands came to her mouth at the sight of the bloody fight. The snake's body started to coil around Kayko as it began to constrict her.
A growl came from her throat at the feeling of the snake's coil around her. Isa stood back, next to Inuyasha, her hand pressed together, praying to Kami that Kayko would win and survive. Kayko's body began to shake from putting so much weight on her back legs. Her body fell foreword, her nose not far away from Kagome. Kagome had pressed her body against a tree as she watched the wolf and snake fall down before her. She stared at the two as the eyes of the wolf opened and looked at her. Kagome stared at them as confusion played across the large green eyes before anger took its place.
Kagome screamed as she moved away from the tree that Kayko was now ramming into. Miroku grabbed Kagome and pulled her to him as he watched Kayko pull herself up, the snake slowly letting go over her body. Isa looked confused at Kayko before she began searching her mind. Isa's mouth dropped as she grabbed a hold of the sleeve of Inuyasha shirt.
“She thinks Kagome is Kikyo.” Inuyasha looked at Kagome then Miroku.
“Miroku!! Get her out of here!!!” Miroku looked at him weird before moving Kagome away from Kayko.
The snake's body slipped to the ground lifeless, the blood staining the muzzle and teeth of Kayko. Kayko lips curled back as she began roaring to the sky, soon followed by a howl, saying she won the fight. Miles away many howls returned hers. Kayko turned her attention to Kagome. Kagome turned around when the howling stopped and looked at the wolf.
“Miroku, why is she looking at me like that?” Kagome said, her voice wavering in fear.
“I don't know, Kagome” Miroku moved to stand infront of her, only making the wolf mad.
The fur on the back of Kayko's neck rose as her lips curled, her teeth bared at the woman. All she could think was she was going to make sure Kikyo was dead. Her body tensed as she jumped at Kagome. In a tree, Naraku smiled as he watched. This was getting better by the minute. A frown crossed his face when Inuyasha tackled Kayko to the ground. Isa ran over to Kayko her body falling across her muzzle
“Kayko, morph back, She's not who you think. Please, morph back and talk to me.” Isa pleaded.
A large eyebrow lifted as she looked down at Isa. Her eyes went and looked at Kagome as she hid behind Miroku. A growl emanated from her throat as she stood up, Isa still draped over her nose as she walked towards Kagome. Isa glared and flicked Kayko on the nose, stopping Kayko in her tracks. Her eyes crossed as she looked at Isa, a whimper coming from her chest.
Kayko shook her head making Isa fall with a thump. Kayko growled again as she started to continue her way towards Kagome. Miroku pulled out sutras from his robe and threw them at the stalking wolf. Kayko roared in pain as she backed up, her body leaning up against a tree that Naraku soon jumped into. A laugh came from the tree before his tentacles began wrapping the large wolf.
Kayko began to move away from the tree, trying to pull away from the tentacles like a dog on a leash. She growled as she bit down on one of the tentacles before spitting it out. Miasma began seeping through the wounds the teeth marks made. Inuyasha growled as he ran towards Naraku. He popped his knuckles before jumping in the air, his claws beginning to slice away the tentacles that held his sister.
Naraku glared at Inuyasha for interfering with taking Kayko. He growled as he made another tentacle came and smacked Inuyasha. Inuyasha flew into a tree, which crumbled around him. Kagome turned around when she heard shouting.
“No, stop.” She yelled as she ran towards the villagers coming with bows, arrows spears, and swords.
“You need to leave the fighting to us. You'll only get yourself hurt.” Kagome yelled, as she stood infront of the villagers.
Kayko looked towards Kagome. With all her reaming strength she pushed herself back, pulling Naraku from his tree. She fell backwards, her teeth snapping inches from Kagome. She let out a startled yelp before backing up into the villagers. Kayko growled at the woman, before a tentacle wrapped up her muzzle. She growled and glared at Naraku. She got to her feet, pulling against him again. Naraku glared at her.
“You will fall, and become mine woman!” Naraku yelled as his grip tighten around her.
“You will fall Naraku.” Isa yelled as the spears the villagers were holding flew up into the air and aimed themselves at Naraku
Naraku glared as more tentacles came and wrapped around one of her paws. Naraku looked from Kayko to Isa, glaring. Naraku growled when one of the spears Isa had impaled itself in his shoulder. His frown turned to a wicked smile as his tentacles lashed out wrapping around Isa's leg and arms. Isa glared at him, more spears lashing out at him only to be burned by one of his barriers. A wicked laugh escaped the barrier as Naraku continued to smile.
“Do not think, my beloved Isa, that you will ever escape me again.” Isa scuffed at him trying to pull away. Inuyasha stopped in mid strike and looked from Naraku and Isa in confusion.
“I'll explain, later, if I think you really worth it Inuyasha!” Inuyasha glared at Isa before running over slicing through some of the tentacles that held Isa. Isa screamed in pain as something burned the skin of her right wrist, at the same time a loud screeching yelp came from Kayko as the fur on her left front leg burned away.
Were Naraku once stood a cloud of miasma appeared and disappeared taking the half-demon away. Isa fell to her knees holding her right arm staring at a fire shaped mark. Inuyasha ran over to her to see if she was ok. Everyone felt a jolt in the ground as Kayko fell, her body finally giving out. Sango was the first one to step towards the large beast. Her breathing was labored, her large white chest heaving up and down rather slowly for an over heated animal.
Sango walked around to the muzzle of the beast. Her mouth was opened partly, her white teeth showing against her pink lips. Her eyes where slighted open as she slept, or that was what Sango thought. Her hand came up to rub the fur on top of her muzzle. The large pure white demon looked sick. Her hand went to the nose of the wolf feeling the heat radiating off it. She backed away and walked towards Isa.
“Um…. your friends sick. She has a fever. I just thought you should know.” Isa looked up at Sango shocked before shoving aside the pain radiating in her arm. She ran over to Kayko her hand resting on the large wolf's nose. Her hand moved up her muzzle tangling with the short fur.
She opened her mouth to speak but nothing came out. What was she to say to a sick wolf who she hadn't talked to in years? Her mouth closed as she looked up to Inuyasha. He slowly made his way over standing behind her looking at the massive wolf. The only other person in his dysfunctional family that he had ever seen full demon was Sesshoumaru, but he didn't hold anything against this pure white wolf.
The only other thing that struck out on this wolf was a gold northern star sitting on her forehead. The star showed where she ruled. Kagome walked up, tentatively. Her last memory of this wolf was her trying to eat her. Her eyes looked over the form of the wolf.
“Should I find some herbs to help with her fever?” Kagome asked quickly shocked when both the half demons growled at the word.
“She can't have that. Keep it FAR away from her.” Inuyasha bit out. Kagome nodded and backed off watching the demons.
“Inuyasha I know your not going to like this, but Sesshoumaru is the only one that knows how to get her back to her other form. If we get her back to her human form we can get her cooled down.” Isa spoke quietly knowing Inuyasha would have a shit fit for saying it.
“Why is it HE has to be here with us so much? Isn't there another way? There has to be. I refuse to get him here. Does her really have to come?” Inuyasha expressions went from shocked, to anger, to defeat all rather quickly. Miroku and the 2 girls just sat back looking at him weird. This wasn't the normal Inuyasha they hung out with. Inuyasha groaned when he saw the look on Isa's face. It said, “go find him.” Inuyasha grumbled under his breath as he ran off, to search for is annoying, older half brother. Isa nodded smiling. She still held a hand of seniority over the half demon. Isa watched him go before looking back at the wolf. Kagome's eyes slight narrowed. The small look from Isa's face told her she still longed for Inuyasha
Inuyasha ran soon jumping into the trees. He seemed faster jumping from branch to branch then running on the ground. His nose breathed in the air. There was no scent of his brother but there was of the little girl that followed him around. He shifted his course ever so slightly. His nose picked up the scent of water; apparently the young girl was hunting fish. He stopped in the tree near the small pond watching the young girl hold up a fish in triumph.
Inuyasha landed from the tree as she stepped out of the water. She looked at him holding on to her fish. Apparently the young girl thought he was here to steal it from her. Jaken looked at him and jumped up, standing between the young girl and the Hanyou, the staff of two head pointing at him. Inuyasha just crossed his arms and looked around.
“Where is my stupid brother, imp?” Inuyasha spit out. Jaken face went from green to red in anger.
“How dare you speak of lord Sesshoumaru in such a manor and how dare you speak to this Jaken with that tone! I can make you a pile of ash in seconds you pathetic half demon!” He continued to rant and hop up and down till Rin pushed him over to shut him up.
“Lord Sesshoumaru went out to check the surrounding area. He should be back soon.” Rin spoke with respect a big smile on her face.
Inuyasha smiled a bit before it disappeared. He nodded acknowledging what she said before he continued to look around. Explains why he didn't smell him. Sesshoumaru knew how to hide his scent and aura. His attention was brought to the forest edge when the unmistakable aura of his brother flashed at him. Inuyasha kept his hands crossed infront of him. Trying to stay calm for his sister.
“What is it you want little brother?” Sesshoumaru asked in his normal cold tone his hand on the hilt of his sword. Inuyasha's hand twitched wanting to hold his.
“ Its not me who needs you…” He looked off at the water his shoulders slumping “… It's Kayko. She's….” Inuyasha felt a clawed hand grab the front of his shirt and felt the tree's bark scraping his back. A low growl escaped both the brothers' throats.
“I can't tell you what's wrong with little sister with you being an ass. I could have left you out of this but she isn't tiny Kayko.” Inuyasha bit out through clenched teeth before Sesshoumaru dropped him. Inuyasha's hand went to his throat rubbing it as Sesshoumaru started walking around his camp sight.
“Rin pack up. We are leaving. Inuyasha, lead us to Kayko.” He turned around his long silver hair flying around him.
“Is that under stood, little brother.” Sesshoumaru announced, making it crystal clear on what he wanted to do. Inuyasha growled slightly wanting to give Isa a piece of his mind when he got back.
“Fine, keep close.” Inuyasha jumped into the trees and ran off. Sesshoumaru kept up running under neither him, not caring about the position he was in, though it annoyed him. He didn't like having Inuyasha above him. He felt like the low man on the totem pole. Inuyasha soon took off faster through the trees. Sesshoumaru watched him, observed him from below. Apparently, they were getting close. A smell came to his nose as he took off towards the edge of the forest to stop upon getting out.
What he saw wasn't something he expected. Apparently, while Inuyasha was gone, the fever spiked. Isa was trying her best to get water through the wolf's large mouth. Sesshoumaru looked over the form of the fallen wolf. He walked forward continuing to study. It smelt like Kayko, but no one but Isa had ever seen her like this. Well, maybe her wolf pack in the north but not her father's side of the family had ever seen her.
Kagome and the small group saw Sesshoumaru come onto the seen and gotten into their fighting stance, afraid of the dog demon going to attack. He ignored them and walks next to Isa looking over the muzzle of the sleeping wolf/dog. His one hand came up rubbing the side of her jaw.
“Isa, I need you to move. She's going to be very disoriented upon waking up.” Isa looked at him weird before jumping off the wolf's cheek, the bucket that held water just minutes before in hand as she ran over to the gang, that Inuyasha was now with, and began moving them back. Sesshoumaru let his youki flare around.
Sesshoumaru knew that if her youki felt his youki, a strong male demon, she would wake to fight off any male trying to near her. It was instinct. She was weak, perfect to take advantage of, no matter what her size was. Her body twitched as she forced herself awake. Sesshoumaru stepped back, waiting for her eyes to open so he could get her to concentrate on him.
Her eyes lid blinked, her sight blurry as her feet pushed herself up, shakily. Her feet moved quickly to regain the balance she had before waking up with a start. Her head swung from side to side, trying to pinpoint where the aura came from. Her nose twitched as she caught the smell of the eldest brother. She looked down at him, to weak to be over joyed at seeing him. Before she was sealed away, she made amends with her eldest brother, seeing how he babied her more than Inuyasha did. He'd had also promised her, before her parting, the night as had slept so close to him, that he would not harm Inuyasha. Her body slumped down as his hand came to pet her. He was surprised to feel her slightly shaking. Apparently, her fever was getting worse.
“Kayko, in order for us to help you get better you need to change to a suitable form. You under stand this Sesshoumaru?” he asked. His answer came when a gust of wind enclosed Kayko, only leaving her small frail body in its wake.
Inuyasha ran forward as Sesshoumaru slowly rolled Kayko over to put a hand on her forehead. Her chest heaved as she tried to regain her breath. Sesshoumaru looked up as Inuyasha leaned down next to her.
“Hal…..Inuyasha, pick her up and take her to Edo. The Priestess there seems to be well immersed with remedies.” He had caught himself from calling Inuyasha half-breed. He knew Kayko, though she was half asleep, would not like that name. Inuyasha nodded to him, knowing that arguing with him, while Kayko sick, would be the worst thing to do.
“I'll be behind you making sure no demon will come out and harm Kayko. She is far to weak to fight off any male's wanting to force her into mating them.” Sesshoumaru finished still staring at Inuyasha. Inuyasha nodded while he picked up Kayko, cradling her in his arms close to her. Sesshoumaru and him stood up and looked back at the intertwined packs.
“Everyone, to Keade's!” Inuyasha yelled before taking off into the forest, heading to Edo. Isa ran behind him, intent on staying close to her best friend in his arms. Sango got Miroku and Kagome on Kirara before taking to the sky. Shippo had hopped aboard with Rin and Jaken; only to keep little Rin entertained on the long trip to Edo. Sesshoumaru watched everyone fly off after Inuyasha. His youki flashing out to pick up on any demon daring to go after his sister. He took off down the mountain, his eyes scanning the road ahead of him.
His thoughts soon took in a different direction. He kept his sense out, in case some idiot dared to try his family but his thoughts went to how he was going to save the only thing keeping his rather small family together. He realized it years ago. When he had taken in Kayko, trained her. He was a ruthless trainer, and on many occasion, Kayko would crawl to her room, wounded and scarred, but her disputation toward her brother never changed. Yes, she was terrified when first entered the castle. Took her 2 months of begging from her personal maid and nurse before she came out of the corner she deemed safe.
After she had gotten use to living in the castle, Sesshoumaru started training her. He noticed soon off that her initial fear of him went away with each training match. And each day, she'd run out smiling, excited about being near a brother she didn't know about. He found it a silly infatuation. He also found it easy, whenever pissed, to take it out on her, and yet she STILL looked up at him with her innocent emerald eyes with such adoration. He screwed up being time with her, almost loosing her on several occasions. Sometimes his training methods would leave her near death, or when ever he used her as a punching bag cause of stress, it would leave her weak.
He knew he lost her when she got older and bolder. She grew and gained some of his attitude, which she finally threw back at him. He lost her when he slapped her infront of the elders. He lost her when she turned and attacked him, quickly over powering him while he was in shock that she attacked. He lost her when he was thrown into the eldest elder as a feral growl escaped her throat. He lost her when she turned and ran at the sight of the guards running to protect their lord. He lost his only sister when she took off out of the castle and running out of the western territory.
But, he was given a second chance and now that he had her again, he didn't want to lose her. She was yet again near death, but not by him. By a demon he wanted dead. He wouldn't doubt that, while battling her, Naraku had one of his minions burning herbs into the air, which was what was now making her so sick. He growled slightly, slicing through a demon that came running out of the forest after Inuyasha. He was quickly disemboweled with his deadly claw.
Inuyasha slowed his pace upon coming into the village. Keade walked out of her hut, hearing the villagers yelling that Inuyasha had a young woman in his arms. Some thought it was a sick Kagome; some thought it was a hurt Isa. When they realized that it wasn't they were stumped. Who was this new woman being held so close to Inuyasha? Keade knew the minute Inuyasha stopped infront of her pleading for help.
“Of course I'll help Lady Kayko. Bring her inside Inuyasha.” Inuyasha hurried in and walked over to a mat, slowly laying her down. Once Keade shooed him out Sango, Kagome, and Isa where put to work. Sesshoumaru waked up to the hut. Sango was running in and out, carrying a bucket of water. Isa had a stack of logs in her hand to help start a fire. It was fall and everyone knew that it was going to get cold, something not good for a sick Kayko.
Inuyasha stared up at the sky, the sun slowly setting. Sesshoumaru looked out at it too. Both the brother, though they hated each other with a passion, were thinking the same thing. Would Kayko somehow make it out safe? Would she survive the amount of herbs that plagued her system?
Next time on INUYASHA:
