Forever Frozen in Stone

(I don't own ANY of the Inuyasha characters. But I do own Isa, Kayko, and Shaka.)

Her eyes moved around as she tried to walk forward. The small gesture didn't work as she tried again. Nothing seemed to be happening and the feeling of being stuck washed over her body. Adrenalin starts flowing through her blood stream as she started suffocating at the feeling of not being able to move.

Her lungs sucked in a much-needed breath of air as she rolled off her branch and fell to the ground with a hard thud. The slowly waking up group jumped at the sound as Sango and Kagome ran towards her.

Isa laid on the ground her hand on her chest as she coughed trying to breath. Her eyes looked around. Something was out there, getting into her mind. Something or someone was trying to tell her something.

“Isa, ISA look at me.” Her eyes looked up at Sango who was trying to get her to look at her. Sango stared at her ice blue eyes, they were wide with fear.

“Kagome get her some water.” Kagome nodded at Sango's instruction as she pulled out a water bottle and unscrewed the cap. She handed it to Sango and Sango handed it to Isa. Isa looked at the bottle before tipping at her lips and drinking the much-needed water inside.

Inuyasha stood back. He'd never seen Isa gasping for air before, except the time she almost drowned but that was cause of an octopus that own the little stretch of the river there were swimming and it got angry that Isa had kicked it.

Isa slowly stood up taking long even breaths to calm herself. Her body shook slightly at the sudden jolt of adrenalin. She was sat down next to a tree, the trunk propping her up so that she could speak.

“I don't know what happened. I started having this dream like I was trapped. Like I was stuck and couldn't move and it scared me. I don't think I have ever felt like that.” She looked around at everyone, looking for some explanation. No one had one.

Inuyasha looked around. Something weird was going on. He felt eyes staring at him.

“Maybe we should move along. This place has become a danger area.” He said as he put his hand on the hilt of his sword.

Everyone looked at him then looked around. The only sound the forest made was the sound of the leaves rustling in the wind. No bird chirped, no squirrels moved through the branches looking for nuts. The loud bugs that usually sang a serenade for the females of their kind were also hushed. Inuyasha started making his way down the dirt path. His ears moving around as he assessed the situation. The group followed with Isa at the end of the line, her ears too, swiveling around, listening, waiting for something to happen.

The sounds in the trees picked up as the whole group stepped out of the forest. Inuyasha growled slightly as his knuckles went white from squeezing the handle of his sword. They continued on their path through the barren meadow. Isa stopped at the sight of something white ducking into the tall grass.

Sango looked back at her and stopped too. She followed Isa's gaze out into the field but she saw nothing, but she knew Isa and Inuyasha had stronger senses then her. She looked back at Inuyasha when he stopped. He turned towards the two girls when their scent started to dissipate when the rest of the group kept walking. Inuyasha looked out into the field, wondering what had caught their attention. He then saw it too; a white mass poked up then went back down into the tall grass.

“Inuyasha? Who is it that you hunt?” Isa asked, starting to get a little worried.

The group looked at her as Inuyasha spoke. “A evil demon named Naraku”

Sango heard a whimper come from Isa's throat as she turned and took off the opposite way of the white mass. Inuyasha looked at her weird till he saw the white mass had jumped over the road and was running after her.

“Naraku!! Stop now!” Inuyasha yelled as he took off after the baboon-pelted man. Sango jumped on Kirara after she had transformed. Miroku had taken off after Inuyasha as Kagome climbed up on Kirara's back, behind Sango. Kirara took to the air and ran, in the sky, after Naraku.

Isa looked behind her only to see the baboon catching up. She screamed a little as she veered off towards very thick, very dense woods. Naraku growled behind her as she started running through the woods. Her claws being the only thing keeping her safe from the webs of vines that grew from the trees.

Naraku smiled as his little plan came underway. He ran faster and came upon Isa's right. She screeched and took off to the left. Unbeknownst to her, she was being herded. Naraku smiled as he ran behind her. She saw a light ahead of her, running faster towards it. As she got but inches from the opening of the forest, a large root tripped her. She came tumbling out into the sun. She stopped her tumbling as she lay on her side.

She pushed herself up with her arms, expecting Naraku to jump out, but he was gone. Inuyasha soon came to the area she was in and looked at her. Isa's eyes where wide with fear, her chest heaved up and down as she continued to lay on the ground on her hip, her arms being the only thing holding her body up. She slowly moved her head looking along the tree line, still half expecting Naraku to come out. A few minutes later, Miroku came running out, a puffed up Shippo holding on to his shoulder for dear life.

Kirara came a second later, having flown over the woods. She landed on the ground with a slight thud as Sango jumped off Kirara and ran over to the frightened half-demon. Inuyasha looked around the surrounding area. A village wasn't that far away. He turned to see Sango slowly pulling the shock woman from the ground. Miroku walked up next to Inuyasha.

“I can go and see if we can get a place to stay for the night. I know its early but what ever Naraku did to scare her and make her flee, Isa won't be able to follow without freaking out.” To confirm he suspicions, a small twig broke and Isa jumped staring at Shippo who was bored and messing around with sticks.

Inuyasha nodded, showing he agreed. Him and Isa may have hated each other, but she was still his first love and part of his pack. He'd do anything to protect a pack member. Miroku walked up towards the village and stopped upon feeling a strong demonic aura. He looked around and followed it, leading him to the entrance of the village. There, before the long street that made its way along the middle of the village, stood a large statue. Inuyasha looked up at it, his ears flattening.

Sango walked up with Isa who was slowly coming out of her traumatized state. Her ears perked up. The aura she was feeling, she had felt it before. She looked upon the tall statue, curiosity getting the best of her. She walked over to the statue, hard hand coming to rest on the back leg of the beast that depicted the stone.

Kagome came up behind Sango at that moment, her miko powers flaring. She could see the statue clear too. A large wolf, with the neck of a snake in her jaws. The snake seemed to be writhing in pain. Its large jaws opened wide to revel its large fangs, ready to pierce the flesh of the wolf. One of the wolf's large paws had its claws dug into its scales on down its body, the other hung in midair, one of its claws barley hanging onto the underbelly scales.

Kagome stood back to take a better look at the beast. It stood on its hind legs, apparently the snake had made the wolf stand but only seemed to get itself caught more into its canine fangs. Her eyes slowly made its way up to the face, which held anger, and hatred. Kagome couldn't help but gasp at the look the wolf was giving. As everyone continued to stare an older man made his way over to the group.

“I see you have taken to our idol.” He stood off to the side, his hands intertwined behind his back.

The small group looked at the elder and nodded slightly. Inuyasha crossed his arms when the man spoke, only giving him a glance before looking back at the statue.

“You do realize sir, that that statue is giving off a strong demonic aura?” Miroku stated as he made his way over to the man. The man just smiled and nodded.

“Yes I do young monk. You wouldn't be the first to tell me that, but the villagers and I don't care. This statue has been our protector for many years. We have not had a single demon attack since we made our village beyond the wolf.”

The group looked at each other and then back at the man. Isa walked over to him, something plaguing her mind.

“How was it you came upon this statue? And do you know who made it?” The old man shrugged his shoulder.

“My wife and me and a few survivors of a demon attack, made our way through the forest. Our old home had been attacked for the 3rd time in a week by a group of demons. The small group that was left, with my wife and me, were fed up with it. We grabbed what was important and walked off. It wasn't but a few days after we left we found this statue. We had made camp under the statue for the night, when the demons that destroyed out village found us. They went to attack us but when they did they were struck with fear. We looked at the statue, which they were looking at too, and the eyes of the beast were red.” The group let out a breath they all didn't know they were holding. The group looked up at the statue. It looked nothing more then just a statue, but the aura it gave off said demon.

“Then a low growl came from the statue and the demons ran off. We soon came up with the idea to make our home here. Soon other came upon us and we have become a large village, and every full moon we lay tribute to our protector.” He smiled up at the statue. Everyone looked around at each other all confused.

“Oh excuse me for being rude. Would you like a place to stay for the night?” He gave a genuine smile as he motioned towards the village.

“We would love to stay for the night. I think some of us are all to eager to hear more stories on the statue.” Miroku said looked up at it before moving towards the old man. The old man just continued to smile and walked towards the village. Everyone seemed to be friendly. All saying hi to the old man, A few people were actually giving him baskets of food. Everyone seemed to be jolly about living in a safe, friendly village.

Some of the people stopped to look at the strange new comers. Isa picked up on them saying, “maybe the idol isn't working anymore.” “There are demons among us now.” The whispers continued to grow at the sight of her and Inuyasha. Both of them scuffed at the humans ignorance. The old man made his way to a nice little hut; he turned and smiled at them.

“We have made few huts into places for travelers to stay in. This one you can accommodate for the night.” Miroku bowed to the old man before walking in. As everyone stepped into the little hut, they looked at each other confused. Isa was the first to turn around and ask another question.

“You wouldn't happen to know, how that statue got there, would you?” The old man shook his head.

“No I don't miss. We just happened upon it when we were running.” He smiled and shut the hut door. He walked off towards his own home, to be with his family for dinner. The group looked at each other as some of the villagers brought in food for them. Miroku smiled at one of the women. As he moved towards her Sango's Hiraikotsu falling between them like it was an accident. He soon moved away from the woman, thoroughly scared.

The evening went by peacefully and as everyone started falling asleep an ear-piercing scream came form outside. Inuyasha jumped to his feet and ran outside only to see a dark cloud floating just outside the village.

“Naraku's back guy!!” he yelled as she ran towards the edge of town. Miroku and Kagome ran out, staying hot on his tail. Sango stayed behind for only a second to change cloths before running out. Isa slowly stepped out. This wasn't her fight but yet she was drawn to the battle.

She walked towards the large wolf statue. She stayed a few feet back behind it, as if it was keeping Naraku at bay, and away from her. Naraku only seemed to be taughting Inuyasha, jumping around, and barely missing Inuyasha's attacks. Isa watched as Inuyasha kept swinging his sword at Naraku. She wanted to slap her hand over her eyes so she couldn't watch him. He didn't know how to fight with a sword and watching him fight Naraku only proved it.

Her attention was brought back to the statue. The aura seemed to pulse. It's pulse softened when Isa looked at it. Was the demon inside trying to tell her something? She continued to stare at the beast. It was clear she had seen the figure before and sensed this aura sometime in the past. Her hand traced itself along the leg of the demon. The aura pulsed more when she touched it.

She was soon seeing the battle through different eyes. She could see Inuyasha as if she was floating in the air over him. From up in the air, it looked like Naraku was trying to get Inuyasha to hit the statue but Inuyasha missed every time. Isa gasped as her hand pulled away from the demon.

“It can't be?” Isa looked up at the demon before returning her gaze to the battle. Naraku had jumped infront of the demon as Inuyasha let out his wind scar. Isa screamed no as she jumped off to the side to dodges the attack. Naraku had jumped off the statue out of the way before it hit him, letting the beast have the full brunt of the attack. Isa ran out to Inuyasha hitting him on the chest,

“What do you think your doing?! You could have killed her!!” Her eyes dripped with tears as she turned towards the statue. The once glorious smooth surface was not cracked from the attack. A large crack made its way up the beast's nose and behind the creature's ear. The snake had a row of cuts, looking as if a large paw came down from the sky and scratched it open. The stomach of the beast had large gashes, with drips of blood flowing out of it.

Isa's hands went to her face as the drops of blood started making a pool on the ground beneath the large statue. Sango looked at her before looking at the large creature. The question came to everyone's mind, How did a large creature get stuck in stone in the first place?

The question was answered as Naraku jumped up into the air and starts scraping at the stone, pieces of the stone starting to fall at each swipe. Isa growl before she set upon her attack. She came up behind Naraku, her nails slicing the skin of his back. He lets out a painful yell before turning around and starting to fight Isa back. Isa growled as she held her hand up.

“Valentine, Show your Magic!” She screamed as her sword came into her hand. She jumped up into the air, landing on a branch of a tree. Naraku landed on the ground as Isa jumped up and dived at him, her sword in her hand. His tentacles came at the point stopping her in the air. Inuyasha came up with his sword slicing through them all, letting Isa fall to the ground. She landed with a soft thud on her feet as she proceeded to rip off the tentacles holding on to her.

Everyone turned to the sound of something crumbling. From the teeth of the mighty beast the snake fell. His body slowly heaving up and down, as he took in big gulps of air. Another sound of crumbling rock came as the body of the large wolf came crashing down. The two demons lay on the ground, clearly unconscious.

Isa started walking towards the wolf before her view of the wolf was obstructed by the body of the snake coming to life. Isa jumped back, slightly falling on Inuyasha as the both stared at the snake. The snake gave a large yawn before lifting its head up. Its red eyes looked around its surroundings before coming to a stop at the village. Its mouth opened with a hiss, its tongue darting out.

The snake's mouth closed suddenly as its head darted to the side. The body of the wolf continued to lie there, its chest being the only thing showing it was alive. The snake smiled as it slithered towards the wolf.

“Kayko! Wake up! Come on I know you're stronger than this!!” Isa yelled as Inuyasha held onto her. He looked at her weird before looking to the wolf. It slowly started to move. It sat up from lying on its side to lying on its stomach. Its eyes blinked a few times, blurry from being stuck open for so long.

The wolf looked up at the snake as it curved its head into an s-shape before it struck out. The wolf had jumped back tripping over the pile pf rock and rubble from her and the snake. A low growl emanated from the wolf's throat as she stood to her feet and stood in an attack postion, ready for battle.
