I decided to post this now, before going back to school. I leave in six days! **happy dance**

Enjoy!

"I don't understand. That isn't possible." Kagome blinked several times and just stared at the back of his dark head. He was nearly impossible to read from this angle and she still felt too sick to even move.

"Something happened the last time you went through. You must have done something."

She whacked him in the head with her panda. He hadn't been expecting it, so he ended up sprawled on the ground. He made an incomprehensible sound that reminded her faintly of a dog yipping. She giggled and laid back innocently against her pillows. "I didn't do anything. Maybe it's always been like this."

He grunted and glared at her, talking a safer seat against the opposite wall of her bedroom. "Maybe a day or an hour. Your brother said it's been five days here and five months there. That's a big enough difference to mean something. You went through the well first, so it's your fault." Inuyasha wrinkled his nose at her.

"That's very mature, Inuyasha," she muttered. "If we thought about this scientifically, then we'd try to think what was different when I went through the well." She closed her eyes as another wave of nausea went through her. "However I feel gross."

"You look gross," Inuyasha muttered. His violet eyes were a little gentle as he looked at her. "And the only thing that's different about you now is the Mark."

She had watched his expression intently, not wanting to miss anything. He seemed calmer, even a little more in control of his emotions. It had been five days of hellish waiting for her, yet for him, he hadn't seen her for five months. Part of her was glad that the change was almost immediate. But the other part of her realized that it must have seemed like an eternity for him. He hadn't cringed when he mentioned what he had done. In fact, he seemed a little prideful of it. Like he had accomplished something great.

"You haven't seen me in five months and all you can tell me is that I look bad?"

Inuyuasha blinked and looked faintly stunned. A moment later he returned her teasing smile. It was small but he smiled.

"We need to go back as soon as we can. Sango and Miroku can't be alone for a month."

"I don't know what's wrong with me," Kagome admitted. "I was fine until this afternoon." Her face held a hint of concern as she looked over to her desk. Sitting on it was the plushies that Hojo had given her. The cat and dog were still kissing and looking very cute. She contemplated giving them to Shippou as a gift. He needed to start sleeping with someone other than her. Inuyasha followed her gaze and tilted his head.

"Those are new." He stood and took the gift in his hands. "Shippou would get a kick outta these. They'd go with his pencil pictures." He set them down and looked back at her. "You'll be fine in a couple hours. I'm going to talk to your mom about what we'll need when we leave tomorrow."

"How can you be so sure?" Kagome demanded.

Her attention had been pulled away from the memory of only hours ago and back to the dark haired boy standing next to her bed. For some reason, he seemed taller now. His expression was more serious and his eyes darker. This was the first time she had found his human appearance unsettling.

"It's a complicated spell, Kagome. I screwed something up when I did it the first time. At the next full moon we'll fix it. Just being near each other will be enough for now."

"Did you get sick too-Hey!" She let out a muffled squeak when he pushed her back against the pillows and forced her blankets around her. He plucked her panda out of her hands before she could retaliate by placing it next to the kissing dog and cat. "Inuyasha!"

"We're leaving in the morning despite how you feel." His hand came up and lightly touched the side of her face. The sudden sensation made her still and her gray eyes widened. He leaned down and kissed her forehead and then straightened. "Sweet dreams, Kagome."

When he was gone, she brought her hand to her cheek. "Crazy," she muttered. "He's gone insane."

She awoke to the scent of another person surrounding her. It wasn't stinky or the fake smell of perfume. However it was fierce and smelled strong. She didn't know why she identified it as such, but the smell told her mind that whomever was lying next to her, was strong.

And very warm.

As wakefulness pulled her away from the peace of sleep, she whimpered. A gentle touched seemed to wake her even more. The barest hint of something sharp brushed over her eyelids and cheek. The rough feel of callused skin ran over her lips and then down her jaw. It stopped at her throat as if testing her pulse.

Amber filled her vision.

"I'm still dreaming. There is no way Mama would let you sleep in here."

Inujyasha grinned. "I've only been lying next to you for an hour. Your mother had me sleep on the floor. I scandalized her enough by carrying you to bed last night."

That made Kagome laugh for the first time in over a week. Then she blinked. "Are we dressed?" She had thought that the feeling of skin against skin was something her mind had fantasized for her. It had not gone away. She tried to orient herself a little more in the harsh brightness of the dawn.

She was laying on her back, her head pillowed by his shoulder and part of his arm. She was covered in part by the blankets. Inuyasha was covering the other part of her. From what she could see, he didn't have a shirt on.

"Inuyasha?"

"Skin to skin is the best way for potential mates to sleep when one is ill. It makes the healing go faster." He sounded faintly defensive, almost daring her to tell him he was wrong.

"We're naked?!" Her voice came out in a harsh whisper. If she didn't say it loud enough, then perhaps it wouldn't be true.

"Of course not," he grumbled. "You can see for yourself."

Kagome lifted the blanket and looked down. She blinked.

"That loin cloth isn't hiding much."

"It's hiding what it's supposed to." The low growl practically dared her to comment again.

"What am I wearing?" she muttered and looked down at herself. "Inuyasha, you forgot my bra."

"That thing?" he lazily pointed to the piece of clothing. It was in the middle of her floor and looked mishandled. "I don't see why you use it. It doesn't serve any purpose. I've never seen any women use anything like it before." He looked down to see her glaring up at him. She clutched the blankets to herself almost indignantly.

"Inuyasha. I want my bra. I'm not going to be in a bed, almost naked, without it. We're not going to be doing anything but lay here and-"

"Kagome." He put a clawed finger to her lips. His ears had twitched at the shrillness of her voice, but now they were perked at the top of his head. "Our hearts had to touch. Now, if it will make you feel better, I'll get dressed and leave you in peace."

"Darn straight you will. And then I might just sit you. Repeatedly."

Inuyasha rolled his eyes and slowly climbed out of the bed. He bent to pick up his pants, (Kagome had to avert her eyes. The loin-cloth only covered the front, and she was blushing desperately), and pulled them on.

"Besides," he muttered. "It's not like I haven't seen it before."

"Osuwari!!"

"Kagome-sama!"

"Kagome-chan!"

"KAGOME!!!!!!!!! !"

"Yo."

The girl just laughed as Inuyasha carefully set her down among her friends. Shippou bounced into her arms and hugged her tightly. Part of her was sad to see that he had grown during her time away. His fox feet had gotten bigger and his tail longer. He had outgrown the clothes his parents had given him and was now wearing something that look like it used to belong to a wayward priest.

She hugged the kitsune child back just as tightly and received hugs from Sango and even Miroku. Wisely, the priest didn't do anything more than hug. Kagome then turned to look at the fourth guest. Kouga just shrugged and leaned down. He nipped her cheek once, leaving a small indentation on her skin before sitting opposite her.

"Someone had to watch the brat while Inu-kuro went to get you."

"I'm not a brat!" Shippou screeched.

"I meant the monk."

Miroku just gave one of his 'woe-is-me' sighs but didn't say anything. Sango just nodded and rolled her eyes. However there was the barest hint of a smile when she looked at Miroku. Then it was gone. It caused Kagome's heart to skip. She realized then, how much she had missed in just five days.

"It was my idea," Inuyasha said simply. "I'm going for a walk. You can tell Kagome what happened while she was gone."

"Same old Inuyasha," Shippou muttered. "He was awful while you were gone. He made me bathe every day."

"Thankfully the last five months have been quiet," Sango said as she leaned against the wall. "We haven't see Naraku, or even Kagura. Sesshoumaru showed up once to tell Inuyasha that he was a failure and then disappeared. Did you know he was mated?"

Kagome looked stunned and then shook her head. Sesshoumaru having a deep meaningful, or even sexual relationship with a woman was one of those things that went into the same category as the chance of Inuyasha changing the color of his clothes. Miroku continued in leis of Kagome's silence.

"Well, there were several detachments that we met with-"

"The miko-slut showed up."

Kagome looked over at the wolf-prince and tried to not let her emotions show. However, she could not hide the pain in her eyes or the long suppressed bitterness rise to her throat. The nausea was returning. There was a hint of anger trying to surface as well. She stopped it, her eyes begged Kouga to tell her that this was a lie.

The silence of the others confirmed it.

"Don't be silly, Kouga-kun," Kagome heard herself whisper. "Kikyou is hardly a slut. She's a miko. Miko's don't sleep around. They're pure and virginal. Always."

She forced the rising bile in her throat back down yet again. She silently told herself that she wouldn't throw up, that she wouldn't cry, and that she wouldn't say the hateful things that were clouding her mind.

"What else do you call a pathetic bitch who hurts for her power and smells like Naraku?" Kouga shrugged. "You should have been here, Kagome. It would have been beautiful to see what your presence would have done to Inuyasha." His smirk was bordering on sadistic.

"I don't understand," Kagome finally said. "Me being there would have just added to the melodrama of the situation. Inuyasha would then feel horribly guilty at hurting both of us. That's just the way that Inuyasha is."

"He didn't get a chance to feel anything, Kagome-chan," Sango's expression was one of warmth. "We saw him go to meet Kikyou. Then..."

"Then we saw her try to touch him and he recoiled in pain," Miroku stated smoothly. "It seems he messed up the Mark just a bit."

"Yeah, he told me that...I mean the part where he messed up, not the Ki-not that she had shown up." Kagome looked down at her hands. The pain was starting to leave her. The brief anger buzzed in her head before it too was gone. She closed her eyes and a few minutes later she opened them to find Kouga staring at her. She tilted her head and raised an eyebrow.

"So who's the man that forced you into an early heat?"

* * *

She found him in his tree. Normally it was the last place she thought to look for him, considering he had spent fifty years in the Goshinboku. However, it also was the highest place closest to the Bone-Eater's well.

"I thought you might run back."

"Then you don't understand me too well. Come down and let's talk."

He snorted but landed in a crouch on the ground. His ears swiveled towards her, listening to every breath, every noise, every beat of her heart. She folded her legs beneath her as she sat on the ground next to him.

"What changed?" Her hands were neatly folded in her lap, her gaze firmly fixed on the blades of grass in front of her.

He grunted at her and didn't answer. He also looked at the ground. It felt awkward and distant. They sat in silence. Kagome finally laid back and looked up through the leaves of the trees. The sun was filtered through cast shadows on her face.

"I never had to explain to you before."

"I think I need to hear it. Inuyasha the last five days..." Her voice caught and she forced the lump back down her throat. It was painful and brought tears to her eyes. She would not continue until it was under her control.

"The last five months were gray. I didn't see in color anymore and I had no passion. That's about as eloquent as I get." He paused thoughtfully. "Bitch."

A giggle managed to escape her. She turned her head towards him. The sunlight made it impossible to see his face clearly. "I missed you too, Inuyasha." She began to rise when a firm hand on her shoulder pushed her back. Before she could ask what he was doing, he laid down next to her.

She had expected the touch to be awkward. They were no longer in her bedroom, she was no longer sick, and she could swear that both Shippou and Miroku were eavesdropping. But it wasn't. Inuyasha's embrace enfolded her in what was reminiscent of earlier that day. His arm came around her shoulders and the other drew her to the line of his body by her hip.

"You're much calmer than you used to be," she commented. Kagome laid her head on his shoulder and allowed him to pull her even closer. The lulling thump of his heart made her relax.

"It was a long five months, Kagome." Inuyasha's ears twitched to catch the sound of her breathing. "I'm sure it won't last long."

"I suppose it won't," she agreed and shifted. Her shirt became untucked and his claws brushed over the skin. She shivered when he stroked the scar there.

"Does it still hurt?" She almost couldn't understand the rumble that came from him. At first she had thought it was a growl or nonsense sounds.

"No. It sorta hurt yesterday, but I think that's because everything hurt."

"You were going into heat." He sounded very sure. "It's a week before the blood."

"Inuyasha!" she screeched and his ears flattened. She struggled to sit up, but he just clamped one of his legs over her hip. That put her into a rather compromised situation. She glared at him. "PMS doesn't normally involve puking! And if this is what you messed up on, then the full moon better come soon. Or I really will twist your ears off!"

"You were sick because you were being unfaithful." His amber eyes darkened. "The mistake was to the level of extreme. Aparently, my youkai self doesn't think you should touch other males."

"Inuyasha, I must have touched hundreds of guys while I was home for five days. I put Souta to bed every night." She rolled her eyes and squirmed. A hushed growl vibrated through her from Inuyasha's chest. She stilled, not daring to squirm anymore. He answered her as if he hadn't made a sound. Perhaps he hadn't even been aware of it.

"Souta's your closest pack. He has no gender to the Mark. Accidental touching is the same way. My youkai form only wants to hurt you when you're not submissive enough."

"That's really healthy," Kagome muttered. "How'd you figure that out?"

"We talked."

Kagome tried to lean back enough to look at his eyes. The gold depths were distant and he wasn't looking at her. A moment later, his leg tightened over her and slid down her own, hooking over her ankle. An almost strangled sound came out of her. He had shifted to become more comfortable, but her comfort level was not anywhere near normal.

"You talk to him as if he's a separate part of you? Another personality?" She was trying to distract herself. Kagome frowned when she saw a slight smirk tug at the corners of his mouth. He may not be looking at her, but he wasn't naïve in the least.

"We're working on a balance. The one thing we agree about is you."

"In what way?"

"We both want to mount you."

"Inuyasha!" This time, her surprise came in a loud screech. She didn't try to cover it. "I can't believe you just said that!"

"What should I have said?" His hand had stayed at her waist, but somehow he had pulled her hips closer to his. Her scent had been tantalizing his nose ever since she returned. She no longer smelled sick, instead was strong. The faint male scent that had been on her hand and clothes was gone, covered by his own. Kouga hadn't touched her and Miroku knew better than to try anything. He was tickled pink at the moment. "Should I had said fu-"

"Osuwari!" She hissed out before really taking a look at the situation. It hurt to have him slammed completely down on top of her. The wind left her lungs faster than she ever thought possible. His chest nearly crushed hers and she knew her legs would be bruised by his knees. She had expected the same pain when his pelvis slammed into hers but it was very much the opposite.

"Inuyasha?" she whispered out tentatively. He shifted, and she gasped. He had pressed his hips to hers more intimately than ever before. "Something...something is..."

She stopped when she heard a soft laughter. Her face turned scarlet when she realized that it was coming from the hanyou on top of her. He shifted again and her gasp changed to a whimper.

"I told you." His lips brushed against her neck. She couldn't tell if he was still laying on her because he was subdued or not. She placed her palms firmly on his chest. His next words made her freeze.

"You're going into heat."
