Chapter Two

"Welcome to the village, Inu-sama." Chibi-Kaitlyn said. Inuyasha shook his head.

"That's not possible! This can't be the village!" he said emphatically.

"Why not?" inquired the wingless angel.

"Well, for one thing, it's all on fire." Inuyasha replied. "And none of the village people are here."

"It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A!" Chibi-Kaitlyn sang. Inuyasha looked at her blankly.

"No, listen, I was just here two minutes ago. This can't be Kaede's village."

"But the last time you were in Kaede's village, you had been born. You've never existed here," was the explanation.

"The village was destroyed because I wasn't born?" Inuyasha said. "That's…It's…Impossible! What's the connection?"

"See for yourself," the angel replied. There was a flash of light, and villagers were running in terror.

"What's going on?" Inuyasha demanded.

"I've taken you back to the day of Naraku's attack on the village."

"Naraku never attacked the village!" the hanyou snarled.

"But you were never born, so he didn't see any psychological weaknesses he could exploit in Kikyo. So he ended up going with a direct assault-which, it turns out, worked a lot better than playing with people's minds and/or hearts."

But the first demon to enter Inuyasha's field of vision was not Naraku. No, it was a Youkai far too familiar. A massive, monstrous white dog with a moon on it's forehead.

"Sesshomaru?" Inuyasha yelled in surprise. "What's the fluffy bastard doing here?"

"You have to ask?" Chibi-Kaitlyn replied. "You should know Fluffy-chan's personality better than anyone but him."

"He's a heartless, pragmatic son-of-a-bitch who doesn't care for anyone but himself."

"Exactly. And what does Fluffy-chan do if he's confronted with someone/something he can't defeat?" Chibi-Kaitlyn asked. Inuyasha paused as the answer dawned on him.

"If he can't beat `em…he joins `em."

"Survey says…JOIN THEM!" the angel laughed. "CONGRATULATIONS! Give that boy a bowl of ramen!"

A bowl of ramen appeared in the hair and upended itself on Inuyasha's head.

"Yes," Chibi-Kaitlyn continued. "Fluffy-chan knew he couldn't defeat Naraku, especially if he gained the Shikon no Tama. So he decided to make sure he was in Naraku's good graces. Between the two of them, the village never stood a chance."

Inuyasha's eyes widened. "Kikyo?" he asked.

"See for yourself." Another flash of light and they were standing within the shrine that contained the jewel. Kikyo had already strung an arrow onto her bow, and was aiming at the door-coincidentally where Inuyasha now stood. But Naraku didn't come in that way. As a bead of sweat trickled down Kikyo's brow, the wall behind her exploded inwards. She whipped around just in time to see the massive brown tentacle stab through her stomach. Her bow and arrow clattered to the ground. She gurgled pitifully as her blood seeped over the tentacle, her life rapidly draining away. Inuyasha shut his eyes, but he couldn't block out Naraku's maniacal laughter as he entered the shrine.

"Kukukukuku…at last the Shikon no Tama is mine!" He raised the jewel. There was a massive explosion of black light. When Inuyasha opened his eyes the ruins of the town lay in flame, and he was surrounded on all sides by the corpses of the villagers.

Chibi-Kaitlyn stood next to him, arms crossed. "Well, looks like you're more important than you think, hmm? And I think we've proven that Kikyo's death is not your fault. Any questions, or shall we move on?"

What about Kagome?" Inuyasha asked. Chibi-Kaitlyn patted him on the head with one hand and waved a `naughty, naughty' finger with the other.

"Tut, tut. All in good-or bad-time Inu-sama. I've got a lot of other stuff to show you first."

Before Inuyasha could protest, Chibi-Kaitlyn transported them elsewhere…
