It's easier to go
Chapter 13 Getting to really know him
Well, you probably guessed what this chapter is going to be about, so read on!
Kagome was sitting on the opposite of Sesshoumaru, while they were driving to dinner.
"Why are we driving to dinner, if we are going to a dinner party?" Kagome suddenly asked.
From the moment they got in Sesshoumaru had just stared at her, without interruption.
Sesshoumaru let a small smile betray his emotionless mask.
"I know the `dinner partys` my step-mother organises. Let's just say we would be lucky, if we could at least pronounce what
we`re eating. And if we could actually find the `food` eatable
then we would probably have only a few bites of it."he explained to her.
I don't mind answering her questions,he suddenly realised.
If it would be someone else I would have just ignored them. But
it feels so right, talking to her, looking at her, making her blush.
Yes, it is right.
Kagome looked at him right as he used the word `step-mother`.
He said the whole thing not in the soft and gentle voice she
she had just heard a few minutes ago, but in his old detached
one .If it is this difficult to talk about his family, why does he want us to see them?`Us`, it sounds so right, so good.No matter, if he wants to see them then we will.
Kagome wanted to change tis subject so she gently asked
him:
"Which highschool do you go to?"
Sesshoumaru blinked at her, but then noticed what she really
wanted and sent her a thanking smile.
"The same as you." he told her in his silky voice.
Kagome let a laugh escape and then responded.
"How would you know which highschool I go to?"
Sesshoumaru shrugged.
"I don't, but I will certainly be at the same one."
Again Kagome giggled, but Sesshoumaru didn't stop.
"S.N.T. High."
Now Kagome stopped laughing and looked at him shocked.
"That is the same school!"
Sesshoumaru shrugged for the second time .
"I know."
Just as Kagome was about to ask how the car stopped and
Sesshoumaru got out .He offered her his hand and she slowly
took it.
They were in front of a beautiful restaurant with the sign,
`Falling stars`.
Kagome wandered what the name was about, but Sesshoumaru took he inside and then she got a good look at the cealing.
You know the planetarium, put a restaurant in it.Many tables
were occupying the room and on each there stood a small beautiful star-shaped lamp. The light was a warm yellow which didn't disturb your eyes.
Sesshoumaru led her to one of a tables and told her to order.
The restaurant seemed to have all kind of food, from greek,
russian, to japanese and french.
After she ordered something italian she looked up at Sesshoumaru and found him staring at her again, while he to let his order be taken.
"Sesshoumaru you know , you just ordered oisters, right?"
He smirked at her, so she spoke french, well let's test what else she knows.
"Do you know what they say about oisters?"he asked with an innocent face.
Kagome blushed , knowing very well where he was going with
this.She rapidly changed the subjekt.
"You said you would explain something to me."she told him.
Sesshoumaru's smirk slowly disappeared.
"I have built one of the largest companys in Japan, and I did
it alone.Well that's about it."he said and then looked away.
Kagome thought about it for a minute and then answered.
"I would have never doubted you did it alone. If you hadn't
you wouldn't even have mentioned it to me." she told him softly.
Sesshoumaru turned to her and before knowing what he was doing he began telling her, telling her his most guarded secret.
"My mother died when I was a child. My father had cheated on her since I was born. I have a half-brother because of this.
After my mother's death he remarried. He didn't even wait.
Te wedding was a month after her funeral." Suddenly he stopped.
"You know what the irony of this was?" he continued "My mother knew, and she still loved him .But that day he came to her telling her he wanted a divorce. My mother accepted and then called me to her and started telling me I should never
turn away, run or go.How much I would suffer was only going
to make me stronger and what made me stronger made me better than him. Then she said three words I'll never forget:I am sorry."
At first I didn't understand but when a doctor came that night,
and told me my mother had died because of a anti-depressive over-dose, I understood. She apologized, apologized for her death.
I never called him father again and yet I have never hated him.
The only thing that man deserves is pitty."
Sesshoumaru went still.Kagome didn't know what to say,
but she was saved by one of the waiters bringing them their food. Sesshoumaru still seemed pained by his memories so dinner went quietly.
After he had paid and they both exited the restaurant, Kagome stopped him before the limo.
Sesshoumaru suddenly woke up from his daze and looked at her puzzled.
Kagome then did something which only his real mother had done. She hugged him.
First he was stiff but then Kagome felt him relax as he hugged her back with so much force it was incredible she was still breathing.
"I'm sorry for your mother but I also know you understood her wrongly. When she said she was sorry, she didn't mean her death, she ment the pain which she would eventually cause you. She wanted you to know that she would accept you no matter what and she wanted you to remember the way she lived not the way she died."
Slowly the words sank into his mind. All these years he had been wrong. He had thought she apologized for her death, for leaving him, but she didn't.
Someday she would have left anyway, so she apologized for his pain, his anger, his grief.
Kagome's hug and words soothed him, calmed him in a way he never thought could exist.
The last time he needed calming he had learned to fight, but now he had learned to open his heart.
Slowly he let her go but didn't look at her.
He got into the limo and as Kagome was about to take her seat, he caught her wrist and pulled her in his lap, her back facing his chest.
This time it was his turn to hug her .First Kagome was scared but then she relaxed against him and started to make little patterns on the hands which held her.
I'm not going to go, not this time, she thought.
