Chapter 10: The Paths we Choose

 

 

 

“Kikyou what's wrong?!” Inuyasha asked as he began to pace around the room.

 

“ They.. they kicked me out!” Kikyou wailed loudly into the phone.

 

“ Who kicked you out?” After a few more sobs Kikyou answered.

 

“ My parents because.. because I'm pregnant!”

 

Inuyasha nearly dropped the phone, he sat down on his bed resting his head in one of her hands. “ You're.. pregnant.. It's mine isn't it.” Kikyou screeched loudly into the phone.

 

“ Of course it's yours!”

 

“ Well.. I.. Come by. You can stay here.” Inuyasha managed to say.. he couldn't kick out the woman carrying his pup.

 

“ Thank you Inuyasha..” Kikyou sniffled then hung up.

 

Inuyasha turned to tell Kagome what happened but the room was empty.

Kagome walked into the kitchen her vision blurred by salty tears. Inuyasha's parents stared at the girl who looked like her heart was broken.

 

“ Kagome are you alright?!” Izayoi asked placing a hand on the girl's arm.

 

“ Inuyasha… I gotta go..” With that Kagome ran out the front door. She didn't really know where she was going. She was just going. Kikyou was pregnant and Inuyasha couldn't leave her now. Hell it would probably be the exact opposite. He would stay with Kikyou and they would soon have a child. She picked up her cell phone and called Sango.

 

“ Could you pick me up Sango.. I'm walking away from Inuyasha's house.. Please hurry.”

 

“ Are you okay?”

 

“ Just hurry..”

 

“ Okay okay.. I'll be there in a few.” Sango was alarmed by the pain and sadness in Kagome's voice.. what did the baka Inuyasha do now?

Inuyasha followed Kagome's scent and it led him into the kitchen where his parents looked at him suspiciously.

 

“ Where's Kagome?” Inuyasha asked innocently his mother scoffed and shook her head.

 

“ She just left in TEARS mind you! Why?” Izayoi noticed her son's ears flatten against his head. Inuyasha sighed and began to massage his temples.

 

“ Kikyou's pregnant.” `Might as well not beat around the bush. “ She got kicked out so I invited her here.” Izayoi fainted on the spot but luckily Inutaisho's demonic speed caught his wife and mate before she hit the ground.

 

“ I'm assuming it's yours then?” Inutaisho asked sarcastically.. Inuyasha shuddered, that's where Sesshoumaru got the iciness.

 

“ Yep Pops.. You're gonna be a grandfather.” Inuyasha's voice laced with anger and self loathing. “ I gotta find Kagome.” Inuyasha said picking up his phone, after several rings he figured out that Kagome wasn't going to pick up. She was livid, but she had a reason to be.

 

What was he supposed to do? Stop having sex with Kikyou when he started his affair with Kagome? Kikyou would have known that something was wrong. Well now he screwed up big time.. he couldn't leave Kikyou now. She had his pup inside her, he still loved Kagome.. but he had to think of the welfare of his future child.

 

The doorbell rang and Inuyasha opened it to reveal a sobbing Kikyou. She wrapped her arms around Inuyasha and he hugged her back.

Kagome got into Sango's car, her face was pale and her eyes were swollen from crying.

 

“ Kagome what happened?” Sango asked frantically as she drove to Kagome's.

 

“ Kikyou's pregnant with Inuyasha's.” Kagome said nonchalantly. “ He's never going to leave her.”

 

“Why would he have left her.” Kagome shot her a look and realization slowly dawned on Sango.

 

“ How long? Why didn't you tell me?” Sango asked with surprise.

 

“ Around two months. We were waiting for him to break up with Kikyou to tell people.. But now he's not going to leave her.” Sango's grip on the steering wheel tightened considerably.

 

“ No, but I know he won't leave her. It's Inuyasha. He'll do what he thinks is best for his.. for his unborn child.” Kagome shuddered at the thought of her love having a child with another.

 

“ Maybe it's not his?” Sango said trying to console her friend.

 

“ I don't want to dwell on this. I just want to get home and get to bed.” Kagome muttered nearly bursting into tears once again.

After Sango refused to take her home right away the two girls decided to stop and get some coffee. Sango avoided asking about more details about him fearing that Kagome would begin to cry once more. Around the tenth time that Kagome's phone rang she growled in frustration picked up her phone and went outside. Sango watched Kagome with wide eyes as the girl threw her phone on the ground and smashing the piece with her foot. After destroying the phone Kagome picked up the pieces and threw it into the nearest trashcan. Sango wiped the amazed look off her face as Kagome came back inside and sat down.

 

“ I couldn't take the infernal ringing anymore.” Kagome admitted with a sad chuckle.

 

“ You could have just shut it off you know.” Sango sympathetically smiled at Kagome who laughed nervously.

 

“ I thought about that.. but only after my cell phone hit the cement. By then it was too late.” Kagome rubbed her head and smiled softly.

 

“ What are you going to do now Kagome?” Sango finally asked unable to keep the thousands of burning questions in her mind any longer. Kagome sighed wistfully and leaned against her elbows.

 

“ I had a life before Inuyasha Takahashi.. I think I'll be fine.”
