Chapter 9

Kagome sighed watching tv on Inuyasha's couch. A week ago Inuyasha had promised to dump Kikyou. After that they hadn't spoken about Kikyou or of their future. ` Am I just another notch in his bedpost?' She feared the answer. She mindless stroked Inuyasha's hair as his head lay peacefully in her lap, lost in between sleep and consciousness he purred when she rubbed one of his fuzzy ears. She looked down at him frowning wondering what was going on in that dense hanyou head of his. Was she just a conquest gone awry? One that got too serious for him? Mere months before he was a complete womanizer. Did she really think he'd just stop seeing other women to be with her? How could she have been such a fool? She wanted to rip those cute little dog ears off of his arrogant head. But she'd never do that.

He could sense her anger even as he fell asleep but he was too comfortable to move. He'd just have to remember to ask her when he woke up.

The uncertainty was killing her and she couldn't just sit there idly so close to him when she was unsure of his feelings. Feelings. When did those get involved with them? When the hell did she start caring about this mutt. She was perfectly content in her life without him and now she needed him like air.

She moved his head from her lap and sat on another couch closer to the tv.

“ What the hell'd you do that for?” Inuyasha grumbled sitting up. “ I was almost asleep.”

“ I couldn't hear the TV.”

“ You have the remote.”

“ I was tired of sitting there. Just go back to sleep.” His ears flattened against his head at the sound of her cold statement. Was she mad at him? Kagome walked into his kitchen getting herself something to drink. Inutaisho and Izayoi sat at the island in the middle of the kitchen as Kagome came in with Inuyasha at her heels.

“ Are you pissed at me?”

“ No.” Kagome wasn't really mad at him if she really thought about it. She was just mad. Izayoi whispered into her husband's ear.

“ This is better than soap operas.” Inuyasha's sensitive ears picked up the whisper. He growled low so that only his father could hear before turning his attention back to Kagome.

“ Then why are you acting like you got a stick up your ass?” Kagome glared at Inuyasha and the icy stare made him want to run. Expecting her to yell at him she just scoffed and shook her head. He probably would have preferred if she yelled, actually his parents would have loved to see her yell at him too. But it was mainly because their son's comment was so rude.

` Of course he doesn't love me.' Kagome thought as she leaned against the kitchen counter. ` But I love him and I'll still stay by him while I can.' The realization hit her like a semi-truck. She was silent as she finished her drink and Inuyasha was just staring at her curiously. After placing her cup in the sink Inuyasha threw Kagome over his shoulder to carry her off.

“ Inuyasha, the girl can walk.” Izayoi chuckled at her son who frowned putting her down. Kagome mouthed the word thanks to Izayoi as she smoothed her skirt.

“ We need to talk.” Inuyasha firmly stated.

“ I know.” Kagome sighed thinking he was going to break off whatever they had. Their relationship? Their affair? Fling?

Rinnnng. Rinnnng.

Inuyasha groaned looking at the caller ID and answered his cell phone. Kagome mouthed to his parents that it was Kikyou. They both made faces of disgust.

“ Yea?” Inuyasha growled. Kikyou was sobbing on her end of the phone. “ What's wrong?” Inuyasha's voice had softened at the sound of her crying.

“ Oh Inuyasha…” Kikyou howled with sorrow.
