InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ It Wasn't Supposed To Be Like This ❯ Memories ( Chapter 11 )

[ X - Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence. ]
Heyhey everyone!! Another chapter below! As I promised, review responses will be at the end of the chapter. Like I said in the beginning of this fic, things are going to start out SLOW between Kagome and Naraku. I mean they can’t go from enemy to lovers right away…that’s just hysterical. Only one fic got away with doing that, and I must say, it is the best Nar/Kag fic I have ever read in my entire life!

Sleeping With The Enemy by Kirara81…but I’m sure all of you guys have already read it. But, just in case you haven’t, check it out, it’s definitely worth your time and is full of lemony goodness!

I'm really sorry for the lateness of this chapter, I haven't been inspired, or well, writer's block has really gotten to me. So I haven't been able to think of anything to write lately, but I figured it's not fair to just stop writing and leave it as it is, so...I thought as hard as I could and thought of some stuff! If this chapter is rushed, or plain horrible, don’t blame me….

All thanks for the ability to read this chapter go to my awesome beta, Sweet Raptured Light, as I have said before, without her, reading this fic would be pointless as I make so many grammatical mistakes…it’s rather funny actually….

Disclaimer: I don’t own Inuyasha and the gang, and I used amn idea from Fushigi Yuugi. Those who are into that anime will know where I got the kodoku idea..lol. But that’s not mine either.

Chapter 9: Memories

Kagome woke up the next morning with a chill running down her spine. Something about the feeling she was having told her that this wouldn’t turn out to be a very interesting day, but more or less, one with an unhappy ending. One, Naraku would surely punish her for yesterday. And two, she just had one of those gut wrenching feelings that anyone would feel bad about. There was only one way to prove how the day would end; by facing it head-on. And as much as she hated to do this, she felt that she needed to.

Sighing, she sat up off of the tatami and stood, throwing the blanket somewhat neatly back onto it. She ruffled her hair and yawned loudly before stretching her arms above her head. Kagome changed into what she would wear for the day and left her room, heading for the dining area so she could get something to eat before facing Naraku.

Kagome walked down the halls as quietly as she could, hoping that she wouldn't have to face Naraku before she had her meal. She'd probably end up losing her appetite, and right now, she was too hungry to go without food. As if to voice her thoughts, her stomach growled, causing Kagome to blush and quicken her pace. Kagome quietly pushed the door to the dining room open, peeking to see if anyone was there before stepping inside and closing the door behind her.

Kagome tip toed over to the table, flinching when she heard footsteps before swingimng her head around to the approaching cook. Kagome visibly relaxed and leaned back in her chair. Minutes later she could smell the fresh sent of miso soup and smiled to herself, highly anticipating her meal and praying that it would be done soon. Kagome used her senses to scan the room and the halls around it, and luckily, no signs of Naraku were anywhere. She sighed and closed her eyes, opening them when the scent of her food got stronger and saw the servent walking towards her, the bowl of soup in her hands. She set it down and smiled warmly at Kagome before turning and heading back towards the kitchen to finish cleaning up.

Kagome licked her lips before picking up the bowl and bringing it to her lips. She closed her eyes and poured the soup down her throat in utter bliss. Oh how she loved miso soup! She drank it down as if all was good, unaware that she could be saving her friends from the dangerous spell that was getting ready to be cast upon them by none other then Naraku himself.

-----------

He watched them near his fortress through Kanna's mirror, anger written all over his features. He hadn't expected them to be so close already. He had his plan, he just needed to put it into action, and soon. Sure, they wouldn’t be able to penetrate his barrier, but he wouldn’t give them the slightest chance of reaching him in his hideout. If Kagome found out she’d go running to them and it’d turn into a huge mess. He wasn’t in the mood to put up with their shit today, however, he was in the mood to make them suffer, believing Kagome was on his side now.

Naraku made up his mind. With the humans and kit and the neko, and Inuaysha running at full speed with Mayuko, they would near his fortress by nightfall. Naraku waved Kanna off and stood up, his baboon suit appearing around him as he walked to the shoji door and pushed it open. He walked down one of the hallways and found the entrance to his fortress. Opening the door, he walked outside and flew off with the Saimyousho trailing behind.

It would be so easy to trick them. Just as it was for Kikyo and Inuyasha. He almost laughed looking back on it, it was pathetic how they gave into the spell so quickly. Love was supposed to overcome anything and win in the end, but if that was true, they wouldn’t have given into the spell as easily as they did. But that didn’t matter, that was the past. He knew it would be just as easy to cast the spell upon the Inu-tachi. And they’d fall right into it just as Inuyasha and Kikyo did 50 years ago.

Then he would return and relieve Kagome of her precious memories and fill her mind with hate for the hanyou and her ‘friends’. She would be the one to kill Inuyasha in the end, he was sure of it, he needed to see the hanyou’s face when he is yet again, killed once again by the woman he loves.

‘Kodoku.’ He smirked as the thought came. Surely he could find some kodoku somewhere around his home. The drug wasn’t easy to acquire but he could find it easily, and it can’t be overcome. He can manipulate her memories and easily make her hate those she loves and holds dearest to her. Some of the strongest willed warriors have been known to come into contact with it and it never leave their system. Thus, they were always haunted by whatever memories they were given. Naraku himself knew of no cure for it.

Naraku pushed his thoughts to the back of his head for later. For now, he had only one thing to concentrate on, Inuyasha’s suffering to come and what illusion he would put the group through, he couldn’t decide between Kagome killing Kohaku and attacking them or Kagome mating himself. He was leaning toward the second, that would put them all through misery, knowing the one that they loved and trusted rutted with their most hated enemy and turned her back on them. It would tear them apart.

…..

Kagome finished eating and left the dining area. A frown marred her face as she sauntered through the empty hallways. Where was everyone? It was way too silent for her liking. Maybe she should just go back to her room and stay there, that way nothing could get her killed until Naraku showed up to either do just that or put her through hell and keep her alive to continue playing with her friends. She knew that was what he was doing. His aura was so much stronger here then it ever was when they fought one of his puppets. He was way more powerful then she and her friends had presumed, she just wished she could find a way to tell them before they came to save her and maybe get themselves killed in the process.

Funny, she didn’t shudder when she thought of people dying as she normally would. Maybe being around Naraku as she had been for the past few days has given her a bit less appreciation of life. She didn’t doubt it, he was the kind of person that gave you the chills more when you think about living with him then being killed by him. But that wasn’t the point. She needed to think about her friend’s safety, not her own well fare or personality change.

She reached her door and stepped into her room. Deciding to train, she walked over to the closet and pulled out a fighter’s kimono, slipping out of her clothes, she put it on and put her hair into a pony-tail before heading out of the room and down the hall toward the training room.

Once there, she took up her normal spot in the corner and sat down cross-legged on the floor, taking a meditating position. She cleared her mind and focused on her powers, letting them flow freely throughout her body. She felt warm all over and noticed that she was glowing again when she re opened her eyes. She stood and practiced throwing her power at anonymous places around the room. A spot on the wall here, a crack there, she missed more then she hit her targets, but she improves each time, which was the real thing that counted.

Once satisfied with herself, she stopped and walked over to the sword, beginning her training anew and once again, seemingly fighting unseen opponents throughout the room.

…..

“Shit!” Inuyasha yelled as he felt Naraku’s presence. He glanced at Sango, making sure she was okay before looking to the others. Lately, he’d been having urges to keep her safe. He was sure it was either Kagome’s absence or a sisterly love to her, but either way, he wanted to protect her and he did.

The others tensed at Inuyasha’s yell and Mayuko sniffed before growling loudly at the stench of her former master. She would never, ever forgive him for anything he did to her family, and lying to her? She doubted her family would ever forgive her for it, but now wasn’t the time to dwell on personal feelings. Naraku’s demise was more important. Suddenly, he was there, in front of all of them, floating in mid air and holding Kagome who seemed to be clinging to him with everything but hate in her eyes.

“KAGOME!” Inuyasha yelled and charged towards them Kagome’s eyes darkened as she raised her hand in front of her, sending a blue light from her hand and towards Inuyasha. “What the-?!” Inauysha had no time to react as he watched Kagome’s energy impale itself into his chest. His eyes widened as he looked up at her, hurt clearly evident in his eyes. What the hell was she doing protecting the monster that hurt all of her friends? Was she sick?

“Bastard!” he yelled, charging once more, tetsusaiga drawn. “What the HELL did you do to KAGOME you ASSHOLE!” Naraku chuckled as Inauysha came in contact with his barrier and flew back once again. Mayuko was about to step forward, but was grabbed by Miroku, who shook his head at her. With Kagome involved, no matter what the consequences, no one was to interfere with Inuyasha unless he was on the verge of death. All he would do is get pissed off at them for trying to help, and things were bad enough already, no one needed to make anything worse by getting in the inu hanyou’s way.

Inuyasha got up and looked at Kagome dumbfounded. She was…snuggling to Naraku! What the FUCK was going on? She was supposed to be with them, with him. Not their damn enemy. What was she thinking? How could she betray them like that? Inuyasha shook his head. He wouldn’t believe it, there was no way he could believe that Kagome had gotten that close to that filthy animal, with all the shit he’s put her friends through, there was no way she’d do something so…wrong. Or was there?

The air smelt funny for a second before things got fuzzy. When his vision cleared, the doubt and anger that had entered his mind took over and he went into a fit of pure rage. His eyes bled red as he through his sword aside. He heard his friends calling but paid no heed to them as he looked the woman he loved in the eye. “Doushite?” And then, all sane thoughts left from his mind, replaced by the need for blood and death. His inner demon had taken over, and he was in no hurry to take it back. Not with the circumstances at hand.

‘She betrayed me!’ It played over and over like a mantra in his mind as he attacked Naraku and Kagome. Slashing, kicking, and hitting everything he came into contact with. He was finally satisfied when Kagome’s head left her body and Naraku lay in pieces on the ground. His rage had yet to subside and he looked to his friends. They were standing there, looking satisfied with everything they’d seen.

Then, the funny smell cleared and his rage was gone, replaced by grief and sadness. The others were shocked as well and immediately ran to help him. “What was that? I, I killed her. I killed Kagome. No.” Inuyasha tuned out the voices of his friends, looking down at his fingers and seeing her blood in his claws. “Kagome, Kagome, KAGOME!” He yelled, hitting his fists on the ground, that’s when he noticed the doll lying on the ground next to the pieces of Naraku.

“Leave myself and my mate alone, Inuaysha. If you interfere with us again I will make sure you regret it.” Naraku’s voice sounded throughout the area, and Inuyasha perked his ears to listen. “We are enemies now Inuyasha, I do not love you anymore.” Kagome’s voice followed, and the dark aura of Naraku disappeared. Inuyasha’s grief however, returned full force.

“Maybe we should go back to Kaede’s for some time.” Sango said. She wanted to break down and cry right now, to simply hide away in the deep recesses of her mind and ponder all the reasons for Kagome’s betrayal, but she needed to be strong. She could cry on her own time, not where others could judge her for it. Though she knew none of them would, she’d rather mourn for her losses alone where she could let it all out until she saw fit.

“Yes, let’s go.” Miroku joined in. His eyes were closed and his face was set in a frown. Before things blurred, her wanted Kagome dead, he hated her and wanted to see blood spilt from her petite body. God, even now he didn’t see how he could have thought that way. He didn’t understand it, and wouldn’t think about it until he could confront Kaede about it.

Inuyasha rode on Kirara as the others walked. He couldn’t stand by himself right now. How could he have killed her? Whether it was real or not, he’d promised to protect her and he went and killed her simply because he doubted her. What if it really was her? There was nothing he could do about it in that case. He needed an explanation before he did anything he’d regret, like lose control again. If he hurt the real Kagome he would never forgive himself. And until there was proof that she is really Naraku’s mate, he’d NEVER believe it!

At any rate, he needed to rest before his next encounter with the hanyou. It would do good to think things over before acting on instinct like he usually did. Kagome was at stake here, he had to be careful or he could get her killed. That was the last thing he wanted to do. He still didn’t understand how he’d ended up letting his rage get the best of him and killed Kagome, it was all just a trick, a game, an illusion, it had to be. Everything happened too fast for there to be any other explanation for it. But he didn’t get any more time to dwell on it as he promptly fell asleep on Kirara’s back.

Kagome broke into a sweat as she mercilessly attacked her opponent. A tiger youkai had volunteered to spar with her, and she couldn’t pass up the chance to hone her skills a bit. With her right hand, she brought the glowing sword down above the youkai’s head, barely missing as she dodges. Kagome growled and raised her left hand, releasing a ball of energy that impaled itself right in her chest, knocking her backwards onto the floor.

The breath was knocked from the tiger as she sat there, struggling to stand and regain her composure. She was surely going to get back at Naomaru for suggesting for her to spar with the miko, saying she was weak and could use some help. Surely, he was just trying to get her killed. Shia stood on shaking legs, barely jumping out of the way to dodge the next attack thrown at her by the fiery girl. If things kept up at this rate, she would be dead in no time.

“Damnit,” Kagome cursed when the tiger youkai dodged her attack. Kagome didn’t know the girl, which made it easier not to feel guilty about taking her frustrations out on her. Kagome couldn’t take things much longer. She was getting so sick and tired of Naraku, and she hadn’t even been stuck here for long. ‘Without Inuyasha, it feels like forever.’ Kagome sighed, wondering how her friends were doing. ‘If only I could see him again.’ But she couldn’t not so long as she was stuck living with Naraku.

She was so irritated by everything that has been going on lately. Right now, he was probably thinking of something horribly painful to do to her and her comrades, although they weren’t with her, she knew something bad was going to happen to them if it already hadn’t. But she couldn’t stand being in the dark about everything! She didn’t know what was happening with her friends, and she didn’t know what Naraku had planned for her. ‘I wish he would fill me in every now and then.’ But who was she kidding? She didn’t want to know any of the sadistic hanyou’s sickening ideas and plans unless it was to help stop them.

Kagome set aside her thoughts for a moment to drop her sword and walked over to the tiger youkai. “I’m sorry, I guess I was just a little out of it today. I’m Kagome.” The youkai looked skeptical before her face softened and she nodded. “Shin” Kagome smiled and grabbed Shin’s arm, placing it around her shoulders she put an arm around Shin’s waist and led her out of the training room and toward her own.

“Lay down here and I’ll go get some water to clean you up with.” Shin nodded and lay down on the tatami. Her long pink hair spilled around her head and her eyelids dropped for a moment, covering her sparkling silver orbs as she took deep breaths. Whoever knew that a human could be so strong. Then again, Kagome was a miko, so there really wasn’t anything to be surprised about.

Kagome re entered the room a few minutes later and looked down at the resting girl. She really was beautiful. Kagome couldn’t help but admire her as she sat down and dipped a rag in the water before applying it to her for head. Her light complexion did a lot to bring out her eyes when they weren’t closed, and her hair was long and wavy. She was a little taller then Kagome, and had a seemingly perfect body with her delicate curves. Kagome couldn’t help but wish she was as beautiful.

“Right now, I need to focus on helping her feel better.” Kagome told herself. Now that her frustrations were lessened and she felt better, her conscious was starting to get at her. She didn’t hurt the girl too badly, she was only bleeding in a few places and nothing was fatal, so things were going to be okay, but Kagome, as stressed as she had been lately, couldn’t help but stress the current situation as well.

Cleansing Shin’s body of the blood and dirt, she pulled the covers over the girl and stood up, ready to leave the room and the girl sleep for a while and come back to check on her later. “I want to talk to Kagura a bit anyway.” Oddly enough, Kagura and herself find the most interesting things to talk about sometimes. Their conversations would go from Kagome’s era and the different things there, to teaching Kagura modern games, and then to love. The only thing, was that Kagura was so serious about everything. She rarely showed heavy emotion. Sure, she would smile, chuckle, from, and things, but it always seemed like the wind witch was holding back from Kagome. She couldn’t blame her though they were, technically, enemies.

Naraku returned to his fortress, completely satisfied with himself. He didn’t think that the spell would work so well on the whole group, but it kept them all from interfering with Inuyasha killing the fake Kagome along with one of his puppets. It had worn off at the perfect time too, and everyone should realize how they felt and the doubt they have now planted about Kagome will manifest within them and they’ll never want to see her again unless it means her demise.

Kagome won’t mind either, he’ll take away her memories tonight, at dinner preferably. But what to do with her? He certainly couldn’t make her a servant, she’d find away to escape, or at least attempt to. The only way to keep her there, fighting for him on her own free will, was to make her happy. But how would he do that? He could mate her, and make her his equal, then she couldn’t leave him if she wanted to, they’d be bound.

Naraku’s mouth watered at the thought of ravishing the young miko. Her virginity giving way to him as he plunged himself deep within her walls…Naraku cursed as he felt himself becoming hard. He did lust after her though, who wouldn’t? Making her his mate would also help to get the damn hanyou hate her even more. He wouldn’t have to worry about the wolf either, maybe he should take her for his won after all.

One problem, Kagome was from another era. She was born and brought up in a time period where kids don’t mate until they’re older, mostly wed as well. This wouldn’t pose as a problem if she didn’t have to agree to be with him. But if her memories were gone would it really be so hard? Knowing her, without love, she would never fully give herself to him. But how could he make a girl that’s despised him since she knew of his existence, love him? Naraku scowled. He would rid her of her memories and worry about the rest another time.

“Kagome.” The way he said her name sent chills down her spine and she stopped dead in her tracks. She didn’t turn around, she didn’t want to face him, knowing that she still hadn’t been punished for the other day. “Where were you headed to?” When she gave him no answer, she heard his footsteps near her and began to tremble silently, then she felt his hand on her shoulder and tensed, her teeth crashing down on her lip to keep from yelling out and her eyes clamped shut.

“There’s no need to be frightened, my dear Kagome,” his breath tickled her neck and her heartbeat increased drastically, her fright clouding her mind. “You have ten minutes, and then, I want to see you in the dining hall. You’ll be joining me for dinner. If you do not show up, there will be consequences. Understand?” Kagome nodded and opened her eyes when she felt his hand leave her shoulder. When she couldn’t hear his foot steps any longer, she slid to the ground and caught her breath. God she was scared.

“Ten minutes….Consequences.” She said to herself, then stood and hurried to look at least presentable. Why she cared to look at least okay around Naraku, she had no clue, but she didn’t really care either. All Kagome wanted to do right now was get to dinner, eat it, and go to sleep. Those were her only concerns at the moment.

Kagome hurried to the dining area. She knew she had a minute or two left, but figured it’d be best to show up a little early then it would be to show up late. She walked into the room and saw Naraku already seated. She froze for a minute and then gulped before continuing her trek to the table. She went to sit at the under end of the table, but stopped when she heard a growl emitting from Naraku. Her head snapped to look at him.

“Sit here.” He said, pointing to a chair to his left. Kagome nodded solemnly and walked over to him slowly. She walked to the chair and sat down, staring down at the table. “Eat.” She stared at the food in front of her, deciding whether she should or not, then looked over to see Naraku eating just fine and just to speed up her decision, her stomach growled.

Kagome’s eyes widened and she blushed, her hand slowly reaching over to the meat in the middle of the table. She helped herself to the different dishes and by the second bite, she couldn’t help but stuff her face. Naraku smirked, dropping the kodoku in her soup when she wasn’t looking. Needless to say, she was done within ten minutes and helping herself to seconds.

Naraku had placed a spell on her, making her fall asleep so he could put her into bed and get started with her memories. He had so much to do tonight, and he couldn’t wait to get started. She would get rid of all the memories of love and companionship with her friends and replace them with hatred and betrayal for them. It wouldn’t be hard at all. Naraku smirked to himself and pulled up the blankets over her. No, she wasn’t in her own bed, she was in his.

No matter how hard it seemed, and how challenging it may be, he would make her fall in love with him. Going through her memories would tell him what she liked, and didn’t like. He could easily get a few ideas that way. In a sense he felt bad for her, falling in love with and living a life with a man incapable of love. Naraku scoffed, love was the biggest weakness of all. He felt bad for all who came to harbor such a feeling. The same feeling that got Onigumo killed, the love he held for Kikyo. It was pathetic.

It was sad, in a sense, the way humans prized an emotion that caused so many so much pain. Naraku would never understand mortals, not with all their foolish tendencies and weird feelings that he couldn’t for the life of him, understand. Nor did he really want to, he could care less about what anyone aside form him felt, but he could never be prepared for the emotions that wracked his body as Kagome’s memories flooded into his mind.

TBC….

A/N: Well, once again I’m sorry for the excessively long wait on this one, but it took a while to get over block. Sweet raptured light has helped me out though, she gave me a new way to look at the whole Naraku/Kagome thing, and no, everything seems a bit easier. I hope you guys liked the chapter, I had fun writing it…(sorta)!
