Chapter Eleven:
Higurashi Farms loomed in the distance as Inuyasha’s red mustang drove up the small dirt road towards the main building of the farm.
“That’s the fruit stand!” Kagome said pointing at the small wooden stand now abandoned for the winter months, until next spring.
“Mmh.” Inuyasha replied.
Kagome could feel her excitement building low in her stomach. She hadn’t realized how much she missed her family until she was almost home. It had been nearly five months since she had last seen them, and it almost felt like an eternity, as she had never been away from home for more than a week at a time before. As they approached the main building Kagome saw three figures standing outside in the driveway. It was Mama Higurashi, Jii-chan, and her little brother Souta, who looked like he had grown another foot in the last five months.
“That’s them!” Kagome said excitedly to Inuyasha practically jumping up and down in her seat.
“Calm down you act like its been years” he said good-naturedly.
“It feels like it has,” Kagome said waving at her family from the passenger seat of Inuyasha’s car. His car came to slow stop in the driveway and Kagome nearly jumped out,
“WELCOME HOME!” her family cheered.
“Mama, Jii-chan, and Souta I missed you all so much,” Kagome, said running over to them. They met her half way and encircled her in a four-way hug.
They broke apart after a few moments of loving family returns.
“Welcome back,” Jii-chan said.
“We missed you Nee-chan,” Souta said.
“Kagome I missed you so much,” her mother said hugging her tightly once more.
“I missed you too Mama,” Kagome said.
“Are you going to introduce us to your friends?” Mama Higurashi said looking over Kagome’s shoulder when they broke apart once more.
“Oh yeah!” Kagome said.
Sesshomaru and the others had just pulled up and Inuyasha was leaning against his mustang with his arms crossed over his chest.
“Mama this is…” Kagome said walking to grab Inuyasha by the wrist,
“Is that Kouga?” Her mother said excitedly,
“NO!” Kagome shouted.
“I’m Inuyasha, Mrs. Higurashi,” Inuyasha said politely.
“Oh I’m sorry Inuyasha I saw a cute young man with my daughter and I assumed it was her boyfriend,” Mama Higurashi said kindly.
Kagome noticed a slight pink come to Inuyasha cheeks as he muttered “Keh” under his breath.
“Well that’s Inuyasha and this is Sango, Miroku, Rin and her boyfriend Sesshomaru.” Kagome said pointing to each in turn,
“Nice to meet you all” her mother said kindly,
“And its lovely to meet you Mrs. Higurashi” Miroku said taking Mama Higurashi’s hand in his kissing it lightly “Kagome never told me she had such an attractive mother.”
Sango came over and thonked Miroku over the head,
“I’m sorry about him Mrs. Higurashi we can’t take him any where,” Sango said apologetically,
“Don’t worry that’s what I would expect from the infamous Miroku,” Her mother said happily.
“Well don’t stand around all day why don’t you come in?” Jii-chan said from near the door,
“Yeah lets go.” Kagome added showing them all inside.
Kagome reveled in the warm feeling she got from being home again, listening to Jii-chan mutter about things he had to do, Souta playing his video games and Mama bustling about,
“Let me show you to your rooms,” Mama Higurashi said to them. She led them up the stairs to the second floor, “Kagome I thought you and Sango could sleep in your room.”
“Sure.” Kagome said.
“Fine with me,” Sango added.
“Then Miroku and Inuyasha can sleep in the corner guestroom.” She said motioning to a room between Kagome’s and Souta’s.
“I’m okay with that,” Miroku said.
“Me too” Inuyasha added.
“And I was thinking our young couple would like to be together so I made up the room at the end of the hall for the two of you.” She said to Rin and Sesshomaru. Rin looked up at Sesshomaru excitedly.
“Thank you,” Rin said to Mama Higurashi.
“Not a problem dear, when you’re all ready I have dinner prepared for you,” She said leaving them to drop off there things.
With their luggage, put away and empty stomachs growling the six of them headed downstairs to have some dinner. Mama Higurashi had already laid out a large spread of food. There was everything from grilled chicken to rice balls.
“I wasn’t sure what you all liked so I made a little of everything,” she said humbly standing before the table.
“This is amazing Mrs. Higurash,” Miroku said in awe.
“It almost looks to pretty to eat,” Sango said.
“You’ve outdone yourself Mama,” Kagome said.
“Is that Ramen!” Inuyasha shouted.
“It is.” Mama Higurashi said, “Kagome mentioned how much you liked it so I made you some.”
Inuyasha gave Kagome a huge smile, making her blush.
“Well lets dig in!” Souta said pulling out a seat and plopping into it, everyone took a seat and dove into the food. When they had all eaten until they were, nearly ready to burst they retired to the living room.
Souta took a cushion of the couch and planted himself in front of the television. Miroku and Sango sat on the love seat and Rin and Sesshomaru were sitting next to each other on the couch by the far wall. Jii-chan wandered off to his bedroom next to the den and Inuyasha threw himself careless on the large sofa in front of the television. Kagome came to sit next to him as she watched the cartoon Souta had turned on, ‘he’s seventeen and still watches cartoons,’ she mused to herself,
“Kagome” Inuyasha said quietly,
“Yes?” she said turning brown eyes on his amber,
“You told your mom I like ramen” it was more of a statement than a question,
“yeah should I not of?” she said sounding worried, did I offend him?
“no it was nice, I really appreciated it actually,” He said averting his gaze,
“Inuyasha you’re my friend of course I’d tell my mom what you like,” she said matter-of-factly,
“Well thanks either way,” he said hastily,
“No problem” she smiled at him widely.
They stayed up for a while after that talking or watching television, around midnight everyone slowly started trickling into bed, Rin and Sesshomaru went first, then Kagome along with Sango. They changed into the pajamas and Kagome crawled into her old pink comforter covered bed, Sango would be sleeping on an old roll out bed next to Kagome’s bed. They turned out the lights and Kagome could feel sleep creeping in when Sango called out to her in the dark.
“Hey Kagome” she said above a whisper,
“Yeah?” Kagome said sleepily rolling over to look in the direction Sango’s voice came from,
“What did you and Inuyasha talk about while you were alone?” She said in a hushed tone,
“Nothing really, he told me a little bit about why him and Kouga don’t get along but I feel like there’s more to the story he isn’t telling me,” Kagome said sadly,
“I think you’re right,” Sango agreed,
“Do you know anything?” Kagome said hopefully,
“No its hard to get Inuyasha to talk about his past” she replied,
“Yeah I should of figured” Kagome said feeling beaten,
The conversation lulled into silence for a moment,
“Sango?” Kagome said quietly,
“Yeah?”
“Do you think I’m meddling in Inuyasha’s business I mean its not really my place just because I’m dating some one he hates doesn’t mean I have a right to know” Kagome said trying to keep the concern from her tone.
“I don’t see how it could hurt” Sango said, “I mean Inuyasha really likes you”
“You think so?” Kagome said casually even though hearing Sango say that made her heart race and butterflies explode in her stomach.
“I know he does, he’s told me,” Sango said,
“Oh” Kagome said the butterflies in her stomach doubling ‘Inuyasha likes me, really?’
“Don’t worry I’ve made him promise to behave himself he knows you have a boyfriend” Sango said hurriedly misinterpreting Kagome’s ‘oh’
“Yeah thanks” Kagome replied above a whisper, “Lets get to sleep”
“Sure night Kagome”
“Good night Sango”
Sleep was far off after that Kagome listened as Sango’s breathing deepened but Kagome lay awake staring into the darkness. Inuyasha had told Sango he liked her, was it because she reminded him of Kikyo? Or some one else, the woman him and Kouga had fought over, did he genuinely have feelings for her? And how did she feel? What about Kouga? She had to admit ever since he left for Japan she thought little of him except for his sporadic calls he had made to her. A gnawing thought came to mind; do I care more about Inuyasha than I do Kouga? If that was true she could not continue, seeing Kouga is was not right to be thinking of another man while she was with him. When she thought of breaking it off with Kouga she did not feel sad, but she was still unsure about Inuyasha, could his feelings be real or was it all an illusion?
These thoughts swirled in her mind running circles until sleep finally claimed her.
Kagome woke early the next morning, the sunlight playing across her features as her eyes fluttered open gently. She stretched her hands above her head, feeling the headboard behind her. As she sat up and looked around, she saw that Sango had gotten up before her and gone down stairs already. She was all alone with the thoughts that had kept her up late the night before. She dressed slowly and headed down the stairs into the kitchen Mama Higurashi and Jii-chan were sitting at the kitchen table.
“Good Morning Dear.” Mama Higurashi said sweetly as Kagome came in and sat down.
“Morning, Mama.” she said sitting down.
“Sleep well?” Jii-chan inquired.
“Yeah it was nice to be in my old bed,” she said “Where is everyone?”
“Oh they ate breakfast and then Souta volunteered to show them around.” Mama Higurashi said.
“Oh what time is it?” she said cautiously.
“Nearly noon.” Jii-chan supplied.
“What! I slept in that late!” she said nearly shouting.
“Yeah, we figured you were tired from the long drive,” Mama Higurashi said putting down a plate of eggs and toast for Kagome.
“Yeah I guess I was,” Kagome said lamely.
“Well I’m sure they’ll be back soon. By the way, I’m going into town later to do some shopping would you and the girls like to come?” Mama Higurashi said kindly, that did sound like a good idea Kagome had not quite finished her Christmas shopping yet.
“Yeah, I need to finish my Christmas shopping and I’m sure Sango and Rin would want to go even if they have finished their shopping already,” Kagome said merrily.
“Perfect.” Mama Higurashi replied.
Kagome picked at her eggs for a few minutes until she decided she just was not hungry enough to eat. She emptied her leftovers in the garbage and rinsed off her plate then headed to the door.
“I’m going to go look for everyone,” Kagome said heading out the door.
“Take a sweater its chilly out!” her mother called after her.
Kagome grabbed a light sweater and headed out the door. She ran down the small path that led from the house to the barn. They weren’t there so she continued along the same path that led along the apricot orchard her family maintained, she didn’t see them but she could hear voices traveling on the wind, Souta must of taken them to the shrine, Kagome thought running a little faster, now with a destination in mind.
She found them standing around the small building that held what was left of Higurashi shrine that used to be in Tokyo. Right before World War II, Jii-chan had immigrated to America as a small child with his family. They were shrine keepers back in Japan and they brought pieces of the now demolished shrine with them. There was a small shrine, a well house that was the replica of a well from the old shrine grounds called the ‘Bone Eaters Well’ then a few feet away was a massive old tree which had been no more than a sapling when Kagome’s great grandfather had planted it here on this farm. It had grown to over fifty feet tall in the past eighty years it had been at Higurashi farms and stood as a reminder of the ‘God Tree’ at the former Higurashi Shrine.
“This is the Bone Eaters Well,” Souta said leading them over to it “Kagome fell in it once when she was fourteen she was down there for hours before we found her ever since then we’ve kept it boarded up.”
“How terrible,” Rin sympathetically.
“Souta have you been telling my friends embarrassing stories all morning?” Kagome said accusingly walking up to them.
“NO!” he said defensively.
“He really hasn’t,” Sango added, Kagome could tell from the sisterly way Sango looked at Souta he reminded her of Kohaku.
“Well you get away with it this time little bro.” Kagome said ruffling his hair.
“Don’t do that!” he said defensively, smoothing his hair.
“What’s this tree?” Inuyasha said pointing at the god tree a strange look of awe on his face.
“That’s the ‘God Tree’” Souta supplied, “My grandfather’s father planted it here from a sapling,”
“That was a sapling in your grandfather’s life time?” Miroku said.
“Yep, it was a sapling of the god tree and it grows at an accelerated rate,” Souta replied, “Come on I’ll show you the fruit stand.” he led the others away and Kagome started to follow until she noticed Inuyasha was still staring at the ‘God Tree’ he looked lost in thought.
Kagome remember what Sango had said the night before and her stomach did a nervous flip, she was alone with Inuyasha again, this was her chance to ask him more about his past.
“Inuyasha,” She said hesitantly.
“Yes?” he said turning amber eyes to her.
“Is everything okay?” she said dully.
“Yeah I was just thinking,” he said looking back at the tree.
“What about?” she said hoping he would spill the truth to her with out prodding.
“The past,” he said simply.
This is it Kagome this is your chance to ask him about everything but the words would not come she stared at him dumbly and slowly lost her resolve.
“Oh” she muttered lamely,
He turned to her filling her vision with his amber glow, she wanted to run to him and wrap her arms around him but she could not move. She just stood there as the snow began to fall around them.
“We should go in,” he said after a few moments.
“Your right.” she said shivering.
“Are you cold?” he said taking of his jacket and wrapping it around her shoulders, she clutched it tightly to herself.
“Thank you,” she said as they went to join the others.
*******************************
The mall was packed with last minute Christmas shoppers, while Kagome looked into a display case of leather wallets, Rin and Sango were a few feet away looking at men’s watches. After a few hours of shopping she’d managed to finish nearly all of her Christmas shopping she’d found a book on feudal Japan for Jii-chan, a video game for Souta, a silver pen in a case for Sesshomaru, and a CD for Miroku. Before she had left for vacation she had boughten a DVD on kickboxing for Sango, that Kagome had seen Sango eyeing, a pair of faux diamond earrings for Rin and a new cookbook for Mama. So she was only left finding a present for Inuyasha, and even after hours of searching, she still had not found the perfect gift. Kagome sighed placing a hand on the glass case,
“Everything alright dear?” Mama Higurashi said looking concerned at Kagome.
“I’m fine I just don’t know what to get Inuyasha,” She said despairingly.
“Well what kinds of things does he like?” She said thoughtfully,
“Ramen, Sports, his car, watching movies, normal non-giftable items” Kagome sadly,
“Hmm” Mama Higurashi said placing a finger on her chin, “What’s your relationship like?”
“What!” Kagome said defensively, “We’re just friends nothing else” she could feel her cheeks burning red, is that really the truth is he just my friend?
Mama Higurashi laughed, “I know that dear I mean are you close?”
Kagome thought for a moment, I’ve spent the entire night in his arms, he kissed he and called me the wrong name, and I cant keep him out of my thoughts I don’t know if you could call that close or just awkward.
“I don’t know” Kagome said truthfully.
“Well there’s your problem Kagome you need to define your relationship then you’ll know what to get him” Mama Higurashi said knowledgably
She is right Kagome thought I need to define my relationship with him, he has my… I don’t know, I think I’m his friend but Sango said he likes me and he did kiss me, and I did like it even though he called me Kikyo, do I have feelings for Inuyasha? Realization hit her; I think I am falling for Inuyasha. The realization struck her hard but it was hard to deny, ever since that kiss the feelings had been slowly building inside her, she was falling for him but what about Kouga? she thought, she would have to break up with him that was the only resolution she‘d know secretly for while she did not have strong feelings for Kouga. However that did not solve the problem of ‘what do you get the person you have just realized you have feelings for,’ I guess defining it did not make it any easier, she thought darkly.
“You’re right Mama,” she said after several pensive moments.
She noticed Sango and Rin walking over to them.
“What did you guys buy?” Kagome said cheerily, she could feel a weight lifting off her chest.
“I bought Sesshy a watch,” Rin said holding up a small bag.
“And I found some Cologne that Miroku likes” Sango said pointing to a bag she was holding,
“Have you found anything for Inuyasha yet?” Rin asked hopefully
“Not yet” Kagome said a little down trodden,
“Don’t worry it’s a big mall we’ll find something” Sango said helpfully,
“You’re right,” Kagome said surely.
Another trip around the mall and Kagome was beginning to get concerned she would not find anything for Inuyasha, until she noticed a small corner store she had not seen the first time around. It was a tiny little shop with a red sign that read Myoga’s gifts.
“What about that place” Kagome said pointing to it,
“Worth a try” Sango said walking towards it while the others followed after her,
It was a small store that was dimly lit, full of kitschy Asian decorations, little bonsai trees, fake Samurai swords, small table fountains for ambience, and a large wrap around glass counter display case with all kinds of interesting artifacts and charms. Kagome walked around the counter inspecting the contents of the case, Mama, Sango and Rin were across the store inspecting a large golden Buddha. Then something caught her eye, there was a wooden case with dark red velvet lining and laying delicately on it was a necklace, it had black wooden beads and what almost looked like fangs alternating every few beads. She pressed her hand on the glass above this, why does this necklace look so familiar? she thought looking at it.
“May I help you miss” an elderly voice said to her, she looked up to see a very short little balding man with a pencil thin, drooping mustache staring at her.
“Yes may I see this necklace?” she said pointing at it, she wasn’t sure why but this necklace was calling to her,
“Of course ma’am” he said unlocking the case then reaching inside it for the wooden box, he placed it on the table reverently, Kagome’s hand hovered over the object for a moment there was a strange aura hanging over it, she could almost feel a sort of electricity shooting from it. She gently touched one of the beads with her index finger she felt like lighting struck her and the room grew fuzzy.
When her vision cleared she was in a strange old wooden room, there was a woman standing a few feet away kneeling in front of some sort of shrine, her hands fold in prayer. She looked like she was a miko from what she was wearing.
“Excuse me where am I?” Kagome said hesitant to interrupt her prayer, the woman did not seem to hear her, “Excuse me?” Kagome said a little louder, there was still no response.
‘Can she not hear me? She must be in a trance or something’ she thought. Kagome walked up to her and attempted to tap her on the shoulder but instead of touching flesh her hand went right through her, ‘what is going on?’ She thought panic rising, The woman rose and walked right through Kagome after the initial shock of some one walking through her Kagome took a good look at the woman, she looked like herself. ‘why does she look like me?’ Kagome thought desperately. Kagome noticed the woman clutching something in her hand it was the beads she had been just looking at, only they looked newer some how. A voice from outside the room caught Kagome’s attention it sounded very familiar,
“Kikyo” He called, ‘Kikyo? Her name is Kikyo? he sounds like…’
A man with an amazingly strong resemblance to Kouga strode into the room, he was wearing something similar to what she had seen him wearing on Halloween only the armor on his chest looked shiny and new and he had a sword at his side.
“Kouga” The miko said flatly
‘His name is Kouga too?’
“Kikyo, I’ve returned for you like I promised, I’m here to make you my mate,” He said walking towards her a strange but familiar glint in his eye.
“Kouga I can not be your mate, I’m in love with some one else” the Miko called Kikyo said in a powerful voice.
“Who” the man named Kouga said nearly at a snarl.
“Inuyasha” she said plainly.
“INUYASHA?” Kagome screamed but they didn’t hear her they were absorbed in a conversation,
“That Hanyou mutt? Please don’t insult me Kikyo he’s not worthy of you,”
“I don’t need your opinion Kouga, I’m in love with him and there’s nothing you can do about it,” She said calmly,
“Nothing I can do? You’re mine Kikyo I wont let that dog-shit touch you, you are going to be my mate!” he said angrily moving across the room purposefully. Kagome noticed the Miko look to the corner of the room where a quiver of arrows and a bow were but Kouga was approaching her too fast she could not get to them. Kagome tried running to them this Kouga was going to do something horrible she could feel it, when she reached the arrows she could not hold them her body went through them, like everything else in this strange place. Kagome turned around Kouga had trapped them woman against the wall he was ripping her clothes off her as she rained blows on him he did not seem to care, Kagome screamed but nothing came out of her mouth, then she felt some one shaking her shoulder.
She opened her eyes that she didn’t even realized were closed to see Mama, Sango, Rin and the old shop keeper looking down at her. She was lying on the floor of the shop,
“Kagome are you okay?” he mother said nervously,
“I’m fine what happened?” She said groggily,
“I was showing you a necklace and you fainted” the old shopkeeper said mildly,
“I did?” Kagome said, was that all some sort of horrible nightmare? Kagome thought.
“Yes are you okay? Did you hit your head? Does anything hurt?” her mother said in a panicked tone.
“I think I’m fine,” Kagome said sitting up slowly.
“Should I take you to the hospital?” Mama Higurashi said fretfully.
“No I think I’m okay” Kagome said, “Maybe I’m just a little hungry or something.”
“Of course you haven’t eaten in hours” Her mother said, “Lets go home and I’ll make you something to eat.”
“Okay.” Kagome said, as Sango and her mother helped her up
“Do you need help walking?” Sango said with concern.
“No I’ll be alright,” Kagome said,
They led her to the door, and Kagome spared a glance back to the shopkeeper, he had returned to stand behind the counter but had not put the necklace away, the necklace she thought, she did not know why but she knew she could not leave here with out it.
“Hold on a minute guys I need to do something” She said running back to the counter,
“Sir I need to ask you about this necklace” Kagome said, pointing at it with out touching it, she still wasn’t sure if that’s what had cause her to faint and have the strange vision.
“What would you like to know?” he said kindly,
“What is it?” she said urgently.
“This necklace is a replica of a necklace that belonged to a powerful Miko. Several centuries ago, she made a necklace for a Hanyou she was in love with, but the day she was going to tell him how she felt there was a terrible accident that resulted in her premature death. It said the original necklace has been hidden away waiting for the reincarnation of the dead Miko to give it to her Hanyou lover once they are reunited again,” he said,
“How much?” Kagome said hastily.
“How much do you have?” he said strange that a mall store would haggle, she thought, she fished into her pocket she only had ten dollars left and some change.
“Ten dollars” she said laying it on the table.
“Its yours,” He said sliding the wooden case across to her.
“You mean it?” she said incredulously.
“Yes it’s the least I can do since you fainted in my store,” he said humbly.
Kagome held the case to her chest, this was ‘the’ gift for Inuyasha the only one she knew it. She wasn’t sure what she had seen in her dream, and she didn’t know about the story the shop keeper had told her but she knew this was the only present she could of gotten for Inuyasha.
“Thank you.” she said kindly and headed out the door.
The old shopkeeper watched her go, ‘you’ve found her have you master Inuyasha? No one would of responded to the beads other than the one who made them for you. I wonder if he even knows she’s the one yet, but I’ve guarded the beads for nearly five hundred years waiting for her to return for them once more. I guess your job is finished here Myoga.’ He thought to himself, removing the concealment from around himself and the store, he turned back into the flea youkai he was and the store reverted back to the broom closet it was. ‘I guess its time for this old flea to return home. I just hope master Inuyasha doesn’t screw this up a second time I don’t know if I can wait around for him for another five hundred years.’ He thought as he jumped onto the nearest living being and was carried away.
****************************** *******
Mama Higurashi drove them home at lightening speed, Kagome was afraid she would get in a car accident.
“Mama I’m fine really there’s no need to cause an accident,” Kagome said reassuringly,
“Kagome you fainted that’s serious, you’re lucky I’m only taking you home,” her mother scolded gently.
Kagome leaned back in the passenger seat there was no point in arguing with her when she was this worked up, she was sure she would take her home and make her eat a ton of food. Right now, she was more concerned with the beads that sat tucked away in one of her shopping bags, was that dream real? Or was it some sort of manifestation of her current worries and thoughts, wasn’t that was a dream was anyhow? If that was what it was, why had she fainted, it was true she hadn’t eaten in hours but she’d never been one to have a weak constitution before. Am I losing my mind? She thought desperately. She shook the thoughts away what she saw was a dream nothing more, she was nervous about her recent realization about her feelings for Inuyasha and having to break up with Kouga that was all.
Kagome thought the moment they arrived home, Mama Higurashi headed to the kitchen to make Kagome something to eat,
“Let’s go into the living room while she’s doing that,” Kagome said to Sango and Rin.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” Rin said looking concerned.
“I’m fine I promise,” She said reassuringly.
“Alright” she said sounding convinced.
Souta was in the middle of the living room game controller in hand extreme concentration painted his features as his hands moved fervently along the controls, a second cord led up to the couch where Inuyasha was sitting he also looked like he was very focused on the controls of the game. Sango walked in and sat next to Miroku who was cheering the pair of them on.
“Where’s Sesshomaru?” Rin said hesitantly from the doorway,
“He went out he said he couldn’t stand our ‘noise’” Inuyasha grouched not taking his eyes off the screen.
“I’m going to go look for him,” Rin said heading back out of the living room,
Kagome stood in the doorway for a few minutes staring at Inuyasha, his black eyebrows furrowed with concentration, his masculine hands pressing different buttons in a specific rhythm.
“You can sit down” Sango said.
“Oh yeah,” Kagome said lamely coming to sit on the opposite end of the couch Inuyasha was sitting on, he was to absorbed in the video game to notice her. She couldn’t help but feel her eyes being drawn to him, his muscular arms wrapped in a tight red t-shirt, He wears that color a lo, she mused. He must of felt her eyes on him because he looked away from the game, she tried to look away but he trapped her in his amber gaze. In that split second, Souta took the opportunity to finish off Inuyasha’s character in the video game.
“I GOT YOU!” Souta shouted triumphantly.
Inuyasha looked away from Kagome to the screen with ‘you lose’ plastered across the screen.
“Good game kid,” Inuyasha said standing up to ruffle his hair, Souta beamed up at him like the big brother he never had, he looks like he fits here Kagome thought wistfully.
“Did you have a good trip?” he smiled at her to melt her heart.
“Yeah I did,” she said.
*********************************
Rin found Sesshomaru standing outside the small shrine on Kagome’s family’s property, there was a light breeze on the air that lifted his platinum-blond hair. Things had been different between Rin and Sesshomaru ever since the last day of finals he’d been very distant, he was never talkative before but he was even more reserved now even Rin couldn’t get him to talk to her.
“The others said you were out here,” She said quietly approaching him.
“I wanted some time to myself,” he said loftily turning to face her.
“Oh,” she said turning to leave.
“Rin.” he said stopping her in her tracks.
“Yes?” She said hopefully turning back to face him.
“I need to tell you something,” he said.
“What is it?” What more is there he’s keeping from me I already know he’s a Youkai and married.
“There are some things I’ve been keeping from you, I’m not just a regular Youkai, I’m the former Lord of the West in Japan, and the current Lord of the West is my son.”
“Oh you have a son,” She said her voice sounding small even to herself, of course he would have children he’s centuries old and has a wife how could he not have at least one child.
“That’s not all I need to tell you, because of my status in the Youkai community it’s unseemly for me to have a wife and mistress at the same time.”
“Of course,” she whispered.
“You see my wife found out about us, she over heard you and Kagome talking on the last day of class, she plans on telling the entire community about us, unless I end it with you.”
“I understand, I wouldn’t want you to ruin your life over me,” she said turning she could feel the tears stinging her eyes. She’d know from the beginning it wouldn’t last he was nearly a god and she was just a woman, a human woman.
“Rin don’t walk away I’m not finished,” he said, she turned to face him hesitantly she wasn’t sure if she could listen much longer,
“I have no intention of doing what my wife asked, in fact I intend to dissolve our marriage, I’m telling you all of this Rin because I’ve realized I can’t live with out you, I’m in love with you Rin.” He stoically.
Rin felt like her legs would give out beneath her; is this really happening am I dreaming?
“Rin I want you to be my wife, my mate, my other half” he said walking towards her,
“Sesshomaru” She said through tears,
He enveloped her in his arms, wiping her tears away with his thumb, “Will you?”
“Of course I will,” She sobbed
He kissed away her tears, and then captured her lips in a passionate kiss, one like Rin had never experience in her life and none would ever compare, she felt a sense of completeness of wholeness. This was Sesshomaru her once unattainable god asking her to be his mate for all time.
“Sesshomaru I love you,” she gasped when they broke apart.
“I know Rin,” he said kissing her once more.

AvidRabid: My most diligent reviewer, I’m sorry once again I didn’t have Inuyasha spill his guts or make a move, and I know you hate the RinxSess so I’m sure this chapter was frustrating for you. Like I said in the authors note she should find out the entire story very soon. And I should have the next chapter out sooner than this one thanks for the reviews you’re the best!
