Chapter 2: The Dawn of a New Day

InuYasha/ no one

“Papa?” A little girl with glistening silver hair called out in the darkness of the hallway. She closed her melted chocolate brown eyes and took a step into the darkness. Her demonic traits were hidden in the tangled growth of hair. “Papa?”

A sound suddenly frightened the young girl and she screamed, “PAPA!”

With the speed of light, the elder hanyou skidded out of his bedroom, the giant fang fully transformed and ready to kill who ever threatened the young pup. With a wail the little one ran to him and desperately grabbed his flannel pajama pants for dear life.

With a sigh, the elder lowered his weapon and it transformed back into its rusty state. He dropped the heirloom and picked her up gently. “What’s a matter, little one?” he asked her softly as he held her to his chest.

She wailed as she clutched his shirt and mumbled something he couldn’t quite catch. “Hey, it’s okay papa’s here now, your safe.”

She looked up into his golden eyes, soft for her and only her. “I’m scared.” She said as she shivered.

“Of what Tenshi?” He asked her, using his nickname for her.

“The shadow monsters.” She said as she trembled.

“Do you want to sleep with papa?” he asked her already knowing the answer.

“Yes papa.” she said as she looked back at her room warily, as if expecting a monster to jump out at any moment.

“Okay little one, you can sleep in my bed with me and tomorrow we will set traps for the shadow monsters so they can’t get you.” He said as she simply nodded and rested her head on his shoulder. He carried her into his room and set her on his bed. She looked so small compared to the size of the bed she was on. The red sheets, made of some kind of silky material shined from the light thrown off of his alarm clock. 2:38 am, the exact hour she was born, even down to the minutes. He knew she didn’t know it, that she didn’t do it intentionally but he still couldn’t help but get shivers at the fact that it did happen. Every night since she was born, and the time her mother passed away.

He climbed in bed with her and held her as she snuggled close to him, her six year old body fitting in the crook of his arm. He stroked her silver hair, mindful of her tender ears.

“My little Kazue, you are the joy of my life. You will be safe here.” He whispered into her delicate ears.

“Papa, who was mommy?” the little hanyou asked him. He sighed, he knew she would ask soon, just not at this moment.

“Your mommy was a wonderful person. She had a huge heart and loved everyone. She had long black hair and eyes like chocolate. She was my best friend and my wife and your mommy.” He said sadly. He turned away from her and opened the drawer to his nightstand and pulled a picture from it. “This is your mommy Kazue.” he held the picture out to her. The picture was of Kikyo, when she was pregnant with Kazue, one of the days she felt good enough to go sit out under the cherry trees in their yard. Her long black hair was pinned up in a messy bun and she was smiling as she played with a strand of it.

“Will I ever be as pretty as mommy, papa?” she said as she hugged the picture to her, her eyes slowly closing.

“Yes my little Tenshi. You will be.” he said as he rubbed circles on her tiny back. She had a tight grip on the photo and decided to let her sleep with it.

He looked at the picture and remembered the day he took it.

“Kikyo, do you want to go sit outside for a little bit? You haven’t gone outside in a while.” InuYasha asked her worriedly, afraid for her.

“I think I want to.” Kikyo said as she looked over at him from the book she was reading. “What do you think of Kazue for a name?”

“One Blessing?” InuYasha snorted, “Only planning on one love?”

“You’re right, but I do like it.” she said as she stood, her bulky body preventing her from moving too much. InuYasha leap to her side and helped her up.

“Do you need help getting dressed?” he asked her as he led her to their room.

“I might, unless my dress is washed.” She said sweetly as she held a hand to her belly.

“The green one with the white flower print on it?” he asked her, he knew it was her favorite of all the maternity clothes.

“Yes, that one.” she said as she sat on the edge of the bed.

“It is, I washed a load last night while you were visiting your aunt.” he said as he pulled the said item of clothing from the closet. He handed it to her and she shimmied out of her pajama bottoms and top. She pulled it over her head and tweaked it a bit till it fell in place.

InuYasha stooped down to pick up the clothing and tossed it in the hamper. He held a hand out for her and led her to the backyard. He slid the door open and she stepped onto the stone path that led to the cherry trees. Even though the trees were not in bloom, the foliage made up for it with cool shade. The grass was dark and soft on Kikyo’s bare feet. She settled down on the grass and put her long hair in a messy bun.

“Inu? Can you get me a glass of iced tea? With a bit of raspberry in it?” she asked him as she ran a hand over the grass.

“Sure, I’ll be back in a bit.” he dashed inside and grabbed her drink and the camera he had left on the counter. He returned to see her smiling as she twirled a lank of hair. Without hesitation, he snapped a picture of her.

He stood and walked to his office, he could afford to hire a nanny, or a baby sitter, but he choose to work from home to be there for his little one. She wasn’t home schooled, so he used the time she was gone to shop for the things they needed and turn in his work that he did at home to the office where he was employed.

The computer was off, like it always was when he went to bed. The room was dark except for a light in the tank of fish that covered one wall. He looked at it for a moment. It was Kikyo’s fish tank, the brightly colored salt water fish swam in ease, unaware of anything going on around them. The white sand was flawless and the plants real as was the coral. She had many fish, he did not know the names of them.

With a sigh from the depths of his heart he sat in the chair and turned the computer on. He would sleep no more tonight. Might as well finish the job tonight.

Do you not like the story? Hmm? Sorry if you don’t…..but you don’t have to read it, you know….

If any of you have any suggestions on what InuYasha’s job should be, please say so in the review, I was thinking he could own half of a marketing firm….or something…..
