Chapter 24

 

“ I need a cigarette..” Inuyasha mumbled loosening his hold on Kagome as he climbed out of bed. He put on a pair of boxers not once making eye contact with the girl sitting on his bed. Kagome couldn't help but fear that Inuyasha had regret what they'd done. She sat on the bed placidly waiting for some kind of acknowledgement from Inuyasha. He turned to her and smiled softly. “ Wanna come outside with me?” Inwardly Kagome sighed with relief at Inuyasha's simple statement.

 

“ Sure.” Kagome said trying to get out of bed and keep the blanket around her. In an instant Inuyasha had wrapped his arms around her. He nuzzled against her neck before releasing her so that he could hand her one of his oversized shirts.

 

“ You shouldn't be so shy.” Inuyasha smirked grabbing his pack of cigarettes from the nightstand and walked out to the balcony. Kagome blushed as she slipped into Inuyasha's shirt. Sure Inuyasha didn't say what she wanted to hear but that didn't mean that he didn't love her..right? Maybe he just thought of them as `fuck buddies' who just happened to be roommates too. She trudged over to the balcony smiling weakly as she slid the door open. “ Took you long enough.” Inuyasha joked to the girl wrapping an arm around her shoulder. He placed a small kiss on top of her head before taking a drag on his cigarette.

 

“ Very funny wise guy.” Kagome said elbowing Inuyasha playfully in the ribs. He snubbed out his cigarette and put his arms around Kagome pulling her into a tight embrace. She tensed in his arms but still wrapped her arms around Inuyasha. He could smell the uneasiness radiating off her.

 

“ What's wrong?” Inuyasha whispered softly into his lover's ear.

 

“ Nothing.” She yawned sleepily snuggling against his chest.

 

“ You're lying but it's late so I'll hold off all inquiries until tomorrow. Come on Princess let's go back to bed.” Kagome looked up at Inuyasha wrapping her arms around his neck pulling him down for a heated kiss. “ Don't start things unless you intend on finishing me off.” Inuyasha whispered low into Kagome's ear. He took Kagome's ear lobe into his mouth sucking on it lightly. The girl moaned softly as Inuyasha nibbled on her earlobe.

 

“ Inuyasha!” She cooed softly stroking one of Inuyasha's ears. “ As much as I want to.. and belief me I want to.. I'm really tired.” She said in a lusty tone.

 

“ Okay. Then we have to stop.” Inuyasha managed to grit out with his eyes completely shut. The way she was rubbing his ears and how her scent was filling his senses was driving him wild.

 

“ Okay.” Kagome breathed. “ You first.” Inuyasha stopped kissing Kagome and shook his lust filled head when the girl stopped rubbing his ears. He threw the girl easily over his shoulder carrying her back to his room

Sango took a sip of her tea then shook her head negatively. “ You guys still haven't figured out what you guys are?”

 

“ No.. And I feel like such a complete baka because I'm in college! This shouldn't bother me.. I should be doing the college thing and not wrapped up in relationships and guys.” Kagome sighed picking at the poppy seed muffin in front of her.

 

“ Says who?! I say you go home and go INUYASHA! What the hell are we?!” Sango insisted jokingly.

 

“ Haha.. very funny.” Kagome said sarcastically. Suddenly a man Sango didn't recognize but approached the table. “ Hi Hojou.” Kagome smiled politely at the obviously nervous student.

 

“ Hey Higurashi.” Hojou proceeded to make idle chitchat with Kagome before getting to the real reason he had come to talk to her in the first place. “ I was wondering are you busy tomorrow night? And if not, do you want to go to see a movie or something?” Kagome looked at Sango for direction. Sango just shrugged.

 

“ I don't think I'm busy and seeing a movie sounds pretty fun.” Kagome said scribbling down her address and phone number on a napkin. “ This is my address and this is my number.”

 

“ Great! I'll pick you up around 7. Bye Higurashi!” The moment Hojou disappeared Sango began to laugh.

 

“ What's so funny Sango?” Kagome asked with confusion. Sango held up a finger signifying she would need a moment to regain her composure.

 

“ Inuyasha's gonna be PISSED!” Sango said snickering a little bit. Kagome groaned then rubbed her forehead.

 

“ He will won't he.” Kagome shut her eyes tight. “ What Inuyasha doesn't know won't hurt him right? And it's not like we're a couple..” Sango shook her head.

 

“ Just keep telling yourself that honey.” Sango said finishing off the last of her cup of tea.

 

“ Just don't tell him. PLEASE!” Kagome pleaded with Sango who just shrugged.

 

“ I won't.. But if he asks I'm not lying.” Sango waved over the waitress to refill her cup.

“ I would never ask you to.. Oh Kami he'll be livid.” Kagome laughed ironically.

 

“ Imagine this Kagome.. You're getting ready for your date with Hojou but you're not quite ready.. You ask Inuyasha to get the door because you don't think it's Hojou.. But he's early. Inuyasha asks Hojou, `Who the hell are you?' Hojou says, `Kagome's date.. And you are..' Then Inuyasha punches Hojou in the face.” Sango began to laugh and Kagome's face paled at the thought. “ Honey I'm only kidding! That wouldn't happen.”

 

“ Oh but with my luck it would.” Kagome said laughing nervously. Sango looked at her watch.

 

“ Shit, I gotta meet Miroku in 5 minutes. I'll call you later. Bye Kagome!” Sango said waving as she ran off.

Kagome slipped into a pair of jeans and a maroon t-shirt for her date with Hojou. She tied her raven hair back into a high ponytail and put on a bit of dark eyeliner and pink lip-gloss. Inuyasha wasn't home, thank Kami, and left a note he had a meeting with one of his professors then a study session at the local coffee shop.

 

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!

 

She opened up the door and saw Hojou standing at the door holding a bouquet of red roses. He stood in front of her door awkwardly smiling and shifting where he stood. Kagome had a few flashbacks to the few times that she and Hojou had gone out when they were in high school. AWKWARD! She couldn't help but chuckle at how nervously they both used to act on their dates.. but that was back when Kagome used to have a huge crush on the guy.

 

“ These are for you.” Hojou said handing Kagome the flowers who accepted them politely though the voice in her head was mentally screaming, ` How cliché! But it is Hojou.'

 

As Kagome and Hojou sat in the theater, Kagome was paying more attention to Hojou's movements than the actual movie. Every now and then he would put a lame move on her. He would fake a yawn and stretch out his arms and place one around her shoulders. Another was when he would lean over with his mouth practically pressed against her ear and whisper something to her. Her personal favorite of all of Hojou's come ons was when her hand was on the armrest between them and his hand just ended up inching closer and closer until it was holding hers. Mentally she chuckled at the advances Hojou kept making, but she couldn't help but feel bad.. like she was leading him on.

 

The end of the date came, but not soon enough for Kagome. She had had enough about hearing Hojou ramble on about what was healthy and not healthy to eat. “ Oranges as you know are a great source of vitamin C and it being winter…” She really at the moment wish she had some sedatives or a set of really tiny headphones. But alas.. she did not. “ Then my professor suggested I look into being maybe a nutritionist or a doctor. What do you think Higurashi?” Hojou turned to Kagome who snapped herself away from her thoughts.

 

“ Uhh..They both sound great.” Kagome smiled hoping he didn't notice she had zoned out. They stepped out of the elevator and began making their way closer to her apartment.

 

“ So, I had a really nice time Higurashi.” Hojou said softly as they approached her door.

 

“ Yea, it was nice.” Kagome smiled to the man tensely.

 

“ We should do it again sometime soon.” Kagome nodded slowly.

 

“ Mhmm.” You could never mumble a lie right? Mhmm wasn't really a yes or a no.. it was an ambiguous answer.. Hojou began to lean in towards Kagome expectedly. Kagome thought quickly and gave Hojou a quick hug even thought she knew that wasn't what he had expected. “ I gotta get inside Hojou. I'll call you.”

 

“ Oh all right then. Bye Higurashi.” Hojou beamed.

 

“ Bye.” Kagome ran into the apartment slamming the door behind her. She rubbed her temples trying to relieve the tension of the headache that had developed over her date with Hojou. She opened up her eyes and was met with the gaze of Inuyasha who was sitting on the couch. He sniffed the air smelling her scent mixed with another male scent, cocked an eyebrow and glared a little bit towards Kagome.

 

“ Heh.. Hi Inuyasha.” Kagome chuckled nervously hoping he couldn't smell the scent of Hojou on her.

 

“ Hey.” He continued to sniff the air as he sat on the couch. “ Where'd you go?” Kagome stayed quiet for a moment.. she could never lie to Inuyasha and she had no point to.. they weren't a couple.

 

“ On a date with Hojou.” Kagome tried to hide the sound of nervousness when she spoke. She fiddled with her cell phone and stared at the ground as she continued to lean on the front door.

 

“ That's nice.” Inuyasha said completely calm as he flipped through the channels. Kagome's eyes darted up at Inuyasha for a moment and she felt almost disappointed that he didn't blow up at her about going out with another guy.“ WAIT WHAT?!” Inuyasha suddenly yelled when it registered in his mind his Kagome was with someone else. “ You went on a date with another fuckin' guy?!” Questions ran through Inuyasha's mind as he jumped up with anger. Who the fuck was Homo? Why would she go on a date with him? Where could he find Homo so he could kick the guy's ass?

 

“ Inuyasha.. what are we?” Kagome asked suddenly making Inuyasha forget about his anger. Her was so pained and uncertain that it cut through him. Kagome raised her eyes to meet with Inuyasha's hoping for a positive answer. Inuyasha wanted to punch himself in the face.. they never did clear that up.. maybe that's why she had been acting so weird.

 

“ Kagome.” Inuyasha whispered pulling the petite girl into his arms. “ I thought we were.. you know.. a couple.”

 

“ But you never said that.” Kagome felt like she was near tears.. Damn emotions.. Inuyasha chuckled at the girl and rolled his eyes. He kissed her deeply licking at her bottom lip begging for entrance. She moaned into his mouth as his hands began to wander across her body. They pulled apart for a few moments to breath with their foreheads resting on one another's.

 

“ I love you.” Kagome said softly waiting and watching for Inuyasha's reaction. He smiled at the girl and gave her a chaste kiss.

 

“ Thanks Princess.”
