Ch 35: Does Time Heal All Wounds?
It was the day of Inuyasha's departure. The day he would leave Kagome's life for who knows really how long. Two years? Two years can be a lifetime. Inuyasha puffed on a cigarette on his balcony and reached into his pocket feeling reassured that the ring he purchased was still there. He had kept the ring in his pocket ever since he bought it. He kept it, even though he chickened out that fateful night. The ring was a constant reminder of the pain he felt in his heart, that rattled his soul, but he couldn't bring himself to get rid of it. A knock on his door brought him rushing back to reality.
“Come in!” He yelled before continuing to enjoy his cigarette.
“ Inuyasha?” A sheepish voice he recognized to be Kagome called. “I hope you didn't eat, I thought I'd bring you something.” Inuyasha thanked Kagome and she handed him a plate of white rice and chicken katsu. “ I know it won't be a long flight, but it'll probably be the last home cooked meal you get in a long time.”
“ Probably.” Kagome's eyes drew Inuyasha into them. “Being without your home cooking I may just wither away.” Kagome rolled her eyes and swatted at Inuyasha's arm.
“ Sure, sure. Do you want me to bring you to the airport?” Kagome offered trying to mask her sadness with a smile.
“ That'd be great.” Inuyasha said walking out to the balcony briefly to put out his cigarette. He looked at his clock and made a grimace. “We gotta go now.” Inuyasha had already sent all his luggage and his new townhouse in Seoul would be fully furnished.
“Let's go then.” Kagome took Inuyasha's arm and they strolled through the door. Before Inuyasha locked the door for the last time he stared into his apartment. He had had many women there, had his Kagome there, loved his Kagome there and now he would be starting his new life in Seoul.. alone. Kagome sensed his sadness at leaving his apartment and she leaned her head against his shoulder. Inuyasha's heart raced at the feeling of her so close and so tender. His hand automatically reached for the velvet box he secretly kept and squeezed it. He wanted to give her the ring, hear her accept his proposal and agree to drop her life to come to Seoul. The entire idea was laughable even to him and he could only look down at the small woman clinging to him and smile.
They left the apartment and Inuyasha locked the door for the last time. “I'm going to continue to make payments on the apartment for when I come back to visit.” Kagome knew this already, but she figured he was trying to reassure her that he would return.
“Of course.” She nodded squeezing Inuyasha's arm a bit again. They went down to the car and Inuyasha got into the driver's seat. “ I thought I was driving you?” Inuyasha shrugged.
“ Fuck it.” Kagome laughed and situated herself in the passenger seat.
“ What are you going to do with your car here?” Kagome inquired.
“ They're YOUR cars now. I put them in your name and I'm continuing to pay the insurance.” Kagome stared at Inuyasha incredulously. “I think you'll need them more.”
“ That's insane Inuyasha.” Kagome stated once her stupor was broken. “What will I need such expensive things for?” Inuyasha chuckled and briefly took her hand to kiss the back of it.
“ You deserve them and you deserve the best in everything.” Kagome blushed at Inuyasha's statement. She contemplated whether or not to speak and her brain told her no. The desire to stop the car and reveal to Inuyasha that she wanted him to stay in Tokyo and that her heart belonged only to him was so strong she could barely contain it. Instead, she remained silent and stared at the floor. “I'll miss you badly. More than you'll ever know.” He looked at her, trying to make her stare into his eyes, but she resisted.
“I'll miss you Inuyasha.” Kagome said barely above a whisper. “I'll always miss you.” They approached the parking lot of the crowded airport.
“You don't have to come inside. It'll just be a big zoo. Plus, I want to be alone with you to say goodbye.” Inuyasha removed his seatbelt and turned off the car. He turned towards the woman he loved and reached for her hand. “I'm going to miss you.” He suddenly pulled her into a fierce hug.
“ I'll miss you too.” Kagome's arms reached around him and returned his hug. “ My Inu.” She muttered so quietly he thought the words were a figment of his imagination. They pulled away from one another after a few moments.
“ I know I'm probably over stepping my boundaries.. But can I have one last kiss. A real one.” Inuyasha asked nervously. Kagome's sad smile gave him hope and she leaned forward. She reached behind Inuyasha's neck and pulled him gently towards her. Their lips met shyly and the kiss began to escalate. Inuyasha reveled in the softness of her lips and the sweetness of her taste. Their tongues touched slowly and Kagome moaned involuntarily into Inuyasha's mouth. The moan sent shivers down Inuyasha's spine and he pulled away. “I'm sorry.” He mumbled and got out of the car. Kagome stumbled out the passenger side door still reeling from the intense kiss she just had.
“ Sorry for what?” She asked placing her fingers on her tingling lips.
“ For being too passionate. I'll call you soon.” Inuyasha said and ran off towards the airport. Kagome wanted to call after him, but she couldn't bring herself to. Instead she stared at the retreating figure of the man she loved. Tears streamed freely down her face and she watched him disappear from her life forever.

Inuyasha sat placidly in his plush first class seat as he stared out the window down at Japan. He sighed deeply and was about to put on some headphones and watch the in flight movie when the person next to him spoke.
“ I'm sorry, I couldn't help but notice.. You're depressed about something.. Your wife down there in Tokyo?” The person speaking was a highly attractive woman with bleach platinum blonde hair and dark eyes. Her skin was flawless with the smooth feel and color of porcelain.
“No, no wife, no girlfriend or fiancé.” He grumbled as he continued to stare at the ground below. “There's nothing holding me to Tokyo anymore.” The woman slightly smiled when Inuyasha turned to her.
“It's okay. You'll learn to love Seoul. I have. You'd be surprised what the place has to offer. I'm Kanna.” The woman extended her hand and Inuyasha shook it slightly. “What are you gonna do in Seoul?” The woman inquired curiously.
“An internship for one of the law offices.” The woman's smile grew. “It's a two year internship. I'm excited, but I had to leave everything I loved in Tokyo. I'm pretty much starting from scratch over in Korea.” The woman nodded with a large smile which was beginning to irk Inuyasha. “Lady, why the hell do you keep smiling at me like that?” The woman laughed heartily.
“On behalf of the law offices of Naraku, welcome to the company Mr. Takahashi. I'm the attorney you'll be following around for the next two years.” Inuyasha's mouth dropped open in surprise.

Kagome stared at her textbooks blankly. The new semester had already begun and still she had received little word on how Inuyasha was doing. She had received a few e-mails from him here and there, he loved his apartment, his job was good and the lawyer he was following was a really great teacher. He'd only called her a handful of times for only a few minutes and when she called it was always the same way. She was beginning to think he had already moved on.. but in essence wasn't that what she wanted? But it had only been a month and a half...Sighing she turned back to her book.. `Hodgkin's disease is…' She had read those three words over 50 times already and she still couldn't finish the rest of the sentence.
“Miss, I wanted to purchase this dress.” A woman said tapping her perfectly manicured fingernails on the counter Kagome was leaning on. The woman was very pretty with light skin and platinum blonde hair. She handed Kagome a credit card and briefly read, `Kanna Naraku.'
“ This dress will look great on you.” Kagome said with a smile to the woman who only sneered and took back her card. As they waited for the transaction to finish the woman's phone rang..
“Hello Inuyasha. I bought a dress for tonight.. Of course. I'll see you later. Bye” The woman hung up her phone and grabbed the receipts from Kagome's hand. When the woman finally left Kagome was able to move once again. She said Inuyasha's name.. There were so many questions in her mind and it killed her not knowing what was happening. Was Inuyasha in town? Who was that woman? Why hadn't she heard about her?
Almost like clockwork Kagome's phone rang. The name in the screen caused Kagome's heart to beat wildly in her chest. Inuyasha.
“He-Hello?” Kagome croaked into the phone.
“Hey!” Inuyasha said cheerily. “Guess what!”
“You're in town.” Kagome sighed without the enthusiasm Inuyasha expected.
“How'd you know? I thought you'd be thrilled. We need to catch up.. I want to introduce you to someone.” Kagome felt herself become overwhelmed with emotion. She didn't want to meet Kanna, especially since she already met her. She didn't want Inuyasha to throw his new life and new girlfriend in his face. It was the last thing she wanted and it was the last thing her heart could take. As much as she truly wanted to see Inuyasha she couldn't allow herself to see the new woman who captured his heart. “So Princess, what time do you want me to pick you up?” The nickname felt like a knife in her heart.
“ I can't.” Kagome stated. “I can't go. I'm sorry.” Kagome hung up on him then shut off her phone. Before she could agree to see the new woman in Inuyasha's life, she had to overcome these powerful emotions. She began to sob and Jakotsu seeing this instinctively comforted her. “I-I'm sorry Jak.” She sobbed.
“It's okay Hun. Just go home and have a good cry.” Jakotsu told her. Kagome thanked Jakotsu and left for home.
Kagome dragged herself out of the elevator and slowly made her way to her apartment, but in front of her door was Inuyasha.
