A/N: Awww... Kagome's all messed up and stuff. I don't own Inuyasha.

Inuyasha looked down at the bloody and bruised girl with hate. Not for her, but for himself. For not saving her. It was his duty to protect her and he failed. She was beaten up because he wasn't there when he should have been.

"Doctor, the girl's stable but she has a few broken limbs," one of the nurses said as she walked into the room with the x-ray results.

"Thank you." The doctor took the x-ray and the nurse left the room. He put the picture up to the light and looked at it. "Well, it looks like you won't be running any marathons anytime soon," the doctor said as he switched x-rays. "It also looks like you had a dislocation that magically relocated itself." The man looked at her suspiciously. "Wanna explain?" he asked smiling.

'Well, he has been very nice. It would be wrong to lie to him.' Kagome looked over at the invisible Inuyasha before turning back to the man. "Well, I, uh... I was helped."

"Yeah, I know. The nurses were talking about some strange man carrying you here then suddenly dissapearing before their eyes," the man said thinking back in disbelief.

"Well, not exactly." The young girl pointed over at Inuyasha with her good hand and he appeared. (A/N: He's wearing a hat.) The man jumped backward and almost fell over as Inuyasha bacame invisible again.

The man stood up and moved toward the seat where the hanyou was seated. "What are you?" the man asked as he moved slowly forward.

"He's an angel."

"A what?"

"My guardian angel."

"Oh, well that explains a lot," the man said as he moved forward toward the seat. Inuyasha got up and moved out of the chair and toward the bed and the man still kept walking toward the chair thinking Inuyasha was still in it.

The hanyou then flickered back into visibility and knelt down beside Kagome's bed. He moved his head closer to her ear and whispered. "You think this guys really smart enough to be a doctor?" Inuyasha watched as the man lunged at the empty chair only to smash into the ground. "Hey, dumbass!" The man turned around. "Over here." The doctor looked from the chair to the hanyou and back.

"How'd you do that?"

"I walked." Inuyasha lifted Kagome up bridal style and carried her to the door. "You okey?"

Kagome nodded. "Yeah, what are you doing?"

"You're better now, I'll take care of you from here on." He kicked the door open and walked through it.

Kagome's eyes widened in surprise. 'Did he just say he'd take care of me?' "You never answered my question." She wrapped her good arm around his shoulders and held onto him.

"Hm?" he asked as he jumped out of the window and onto the roof of a building across the street.

"Did you mean what you said before, about protecting me.?" The young woman looked up at him hopefully.

He hesitated before responding. "Yeah." Her eyes widened even more as he landed on the balcony of her apartment and opened the door. "But, I couldn't."

"What do you mean?" Kagome tilted her head to the side, confused.

"I didn't get there in time. You got hurt. I failed in protecting you." Inuyasha set her down onto her bed. Before he could stand up she used the hand around the back of his neck to pull him down so that they were eye to eye.

"You didn't fail. You saved my life. That's all I can ask of you." She pulled him even closer until their lips were touching in a small 'thank you' kiss. As she released him, he fell back, onto the ground, both of their faces turned a bright shade of red as he stood up and walked to the door.

"I'll be across the hall. If you need me. Just say my name," he said awkwardly as he left the room, but left the door open.

An hour later he walked back to her room to find she had already fallen asleep. He moved silently to the side of her bed and sat down on the ground next to her. He sighed as he gently stroked her hair, careful not to wake her up. 'Oh, Kagome. I should have been there. I should have been able to help you.' He took a deep breath before standing up and walking over the carpeted floor to the small cabinet where he found a white t-shirt and grey sweat pants. 'Well, I need to get her changed. She has been wearing those cloths for a few days now.' He looked over at the girl who was now sleeping peacefully for the first time in almost a week and decided that it would be better to wait.
