InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Kagome's Loss ❯ Kagome Finds Out ( Chapter 1 )
(Just a Small A/N before we begin.): Sorry I haven't been around lately. And chances are your looking for two things - new chapters - and an explanation. Well, chapters should be coming soon (depends on the explanation) so please, be patient. Another thing - the explanation. Because in about 1 and a half years from now I will be out of school and full time at my job they have started putting me through basic weapons training. Just handguns for protection out in the field. (Just in case your wondering why - it's because I work PT at a forensics lab. Cool stuff - mind the smell.) So please be patient. I just got out of a 3 hour long maze of shooting and dodging. So I'm writing this - then hitting the showers. It came to me while I was waiting to enter the maze.
"Speech."
Story line.
Thoughts or Flashback (You'll be able to tell the difference.)
------------------------------------------------
Kagome walked alone through the forest in the feudal era. It had been a little over twenty minutes since she had heard the bad news. The sting sill like poison in her ears.
"Mom, I'm home!" Kagome called out happy as she opened the front door of the shrine's well house. Knowing full well that her mom was either in the house or out buying supplies for her. It still amazed Kagome how well her mom was dealing with the situation they were in. Granted, she like Inuyasha, but it was still weird.
She opened the door to the house and began to look around.
The house was drenched in darkened gloom. It's darkness was enough to put a damper on the light from the jewel. Kagome could sense it without needing to talk to anyone.
Something bad had happened…
Even now Kagome couldn't believe it as she sat on a tree trunk to gather her thoughts. No doubt Inuyasha would soon come to fetch her. They would fight, she would sit him, he would mumble something… but it wouldn't end in the way it normally did… not for a while anymore.
Kagome found her mom in the living room. Her little brother out of sight, and for Kagome, out of mind as she noticed the tears on her mothers face. She immediately ran to her side, kneeling down next to her.
"Mom, what's wrong? What happened?"
Her mother looked up, as if for the first time, she had noticed her there. Her eyes were dark, and scary. Kagome resisted the urge to back away.
"Kagome… it's grandpa… I'm sorry dear, he's passed."
Kagome shuddered at the thought of what had happened after that. They both broke down into tears and Kagome had staying only long enough to gather some things, leaving her mother - who had insisted as she was going to stay with a family friend - to return to the feudal era. Hoping that the scenic beauty would distract her or allow her to separate her thoughts.
She could hear the silent feet jumping from tree to tree. She could feel the slight wind as he touched down effortlessly. She was prepared for the `your late' speech. Yet, none of that came.
Only one sentence… "Kagome… why are your crying?"
She didn't answer him.
"Did someone hurt you?" He sounded angry now.
Nothing.
"Tell me what happened!" He suddenly demanded. Kagome told him in two words.
"Sit boy!"
He hit the ground instantly. Kagome simply walked off towards the village as the night began to fall.
---------------------------------------------
Kagome had just entered the edge of the village. Walking directly to the hut, only stopping near Sango, Miroku, Kaede, Shippo, and Kirara to say two things.
"Sango, I'm not feeling well. Can you take care of dinner tonight?" She said, between sniffles.
Sango took a quick look around.
No Inuyasha… didn't he go to fetch her?
"Sure, Kagome. Get some rest. I'll be in to check on you later."
"Thank you Sango… I'm going to bed." Kagome said, pushing aside the door, letting it swing into place as she walked in.
Miroku sighed. "I wonder what he did this time." Miroku wondered aloud.
"I didn't do anything, Monk." Inuyasha scoffed, walking up behind him.
"Inuyasha, of all the times you've have gone to fetch Kagome, she has never come back like this. You must of really outdone yourself this time." Shippo decided.
Inuyasha growled. Causing the kit to quickly hide behind Kirara.
Sango set the put into place on the fire. "I'll go and talk to her." She said. "Miroku, watch the water, and not my ass." She said, pushing aside the door.
Sango found Kagome staring at herself in the large portable mirror she had. Just staring into space. Crying.
She sat down.
What did he do to make her so mad?
"Kagome?"
Kagome, as if startled, quickly wiped away the tears. Hiding the self pity she harbored.
"Oh, hello Sango. Miroku try to touch you again?"
Sango was all business, no fake smiles or laughs. "You can't fool me. What did he do this time?" Sango said.
"What did who do?" Kagome asked.
Sango sat back, resting her arms on the sides of the small chair, also from Kagome's time.
"Come on. What did Inuyasha do this time? What ever it is I'm sure it's only cause he cares… somewhere…"
"It's not him. But you can't tell the others… not yet ok?"
Sango nodded.
"When I went back… I found out that…" The tears began. "That my grandfather had passed while I was gone."
Sango grabbed onto her friend as Kagome cried into her.
--------------------------------
"So, did you give her the usual, `I'm sure he didn't mean it.' And `Inuyasha's sorry, I'm sure of it'?" Miroku asked. As Sango left. Inuyasha was silent. Sango sat down and poured some of the food into the now boiling water.
About five minutes later, when Miroku hadn't gotten his answer he was about to ask again. "Sango?" She only set a bowl of food down in front of him. "Eat your food. And don't ask questions."
Miroku and Inuyasha were taken back by her icy voice.
If only they knew.
------------------------------------------
It had been six hours and now the smell of tears were heavy in the air for Inuyasha. He silently walked into the hut and sat down next to Kagome.
I must of really done it this time.
"Look." He sighed. "Whatever I did, I'm sorry."
"You didn't do anything." Kagome said, breaking into a gasping sob for a moment before returning into her quiet sob.
She nearly gasped when she felt two arms surround her and a head on top of hers.
"Look, whatever it is, we'll get through it. Just… don't tell anyone about this, ok?" He added. Kagome merely nodded.
Maybe with the others around it will be easier to deal with this. We've all lost someone very close to us. Sango lost her entire family. Miroku lost his father. Inuyasha lost both of his parents. Shippo the same. We've all had our losses… but how can mine compare to theirs?
Kagome silently drifted off, into the night of sleep and dream.
Unknowing to her, Inuyasha had fallen asleep a long time ago.
