Kagome's Will
Chapter Four
Discovering the Scene
InuYasha rolled over. He hadn't felt good all day, and now he couldn't sleep. Naseua plagued him like a bad case of fleas. He had a couple close calls, be hadn't thrown up as of yet. He was chilled, but he broke out in a cold sweat ever so often.
`Something isn't right.' He thought to himself. He swung his legs over the side of his bed and sat up. He was hit with a wave of dizziness as he tried to stand. He managed to shake it off and head for the bathroom. He leaned down his face close to the sink and splashed it with cold water. As he closed his eyes, Kagome's face flashed through his mind. He suddenly felt sick again. He raised himself up from the sink and looked at himself in the mirror.
`Nothing looks wrong with me.' After he removed his concealment charm, he leaned in closely to the mirror and examined his eyes and mouth. Satisfied, he rose up and let his gaze fall from his face to his neck.
“What the hell?” InuYasha looked at the scar on his neck. He fingered the tender mark gently, but as he pulled his hand away he felt blood on his fingertips.
“Something is wrong. Really Wrong.” He thought aloud.
“InuYasha? What's wrong?”
InuYasha whirled around to face the voice that had interrupted his thoughts. His temper dropped as he looked into her eyes.
“Feh. It's nothing. Go back to bed Kikyo.”
-*-*-*-*-
Sango stopped about a block away from the house and parked the car.
“You intend to make us walk in the rain my dear Sango?”
“It would be better that he didn't see us coming. Don't you agree?”
“Ah, Sango, so young yet so wise.”
“Come on Miroku.” The two ran the block to Kagome's home. The climbed the Shrine steps and quickly walked to the main house. Suddenly Miroku grabbed Sango and pulled her behind some bushes.
“Hey Miroku-.”
“SHHH! I thought you said you didn't want him to see us?”
Sango looked up just in time to see Kagome's father come out the door with a large black garbage bag. They watched as he put the garbage bag into the trashcan, walk calmly to his car, get in and drive away. Miroku didn't like the way it looked, but left the bushes with Sango close behind. As they opened the door, they found the house to be in total chaos.
“It looks like a tornado went through here.” Miroku pointed out. As the two looked around the noticed that all three living room tables were smashed and broken. Two of the three had pieces of cloth, that was stained with blood. This caused Sango's stomach to flip.
“KAGOME? KAGOME PLEASE! ANSWER ME!” Sango screamed tearfully. She walked around the broken furniture and glass and made her way the stairs, all the while calling for Kagome.
Miroku watched as Sango carefully choose her footing. He was uneasy about the way Kagome's father had left. He seemed all too calm about it. Like, nothing had happened. Though, obviously it had. Miroku decided he had better call the police, so he went to the kitchen to use the phone. As he entered he was met with a gruesome sight.
Blood was every-where he looked and stepped. He carefully walked around the puddles and trails of blood as he walked to the phone.
“911, is this an emergency?”
“Yes, I haven't been able to asses the damage completely but. I believe my friend may be bleeding to death.” He explained as he followed the trail of blood with his eyes to the kitchen sink.
“What is the victim's name and age?”
“Kagome, Kagome Higurashi. She's nineteen.”
“And your name sir?”
“Miroku Houshi.”
“And what is you relation to Miss Higurashi, Mr. Houshi.”
“She's a friend. My girlfriend and I came over to see her, and upon entering we found everything in disarray. I came into her kitchen to use the phone and found blood everywhere. Please send help.” He said as he walked over to the sink. What he found was gruesome. `What the hell?”
“Sir?” Miroku was snapped from his state of shock as the woman's voice became louder.
“Huh? Oh, sorry. What?”
“What's the address?”
“The Higurashi Shrine.” His eyes glued on the object in the sink. `No, it can't be.”
“Help is on the-.”
“MIROKU! MIROKUUU!” Sango's blood curling scream came from upstairs. Miroku then knew his assumptions were correct. He dropped the phone and ran upstairs.
-*-*-*-*-
Sango had made her way upstairs, not missing the trail of blood that seemed to have drizzled across the floor. She followed the trail of blood to Kagome's closed door.
“Kagome?” Sango called as she grasped the doorknob. When she heard no answer, she held her breath as she opened the door. Or she tried to. She managed to get it open about four or five inches but found something barricading the door. She pushed only a little at first and then she pushed with her weight and fell forward as the door became free. She couldn't see anything. The room was dark, she could hear the rain hitting Kagome's window as the wind blew. Sango frowned.
`I can't see anything. Duh Sango, turn on a light, hello?' she mentally scolded herself.
Sango felt around for Kagome's light switch, hitting her shins on the small dresser that Kagome tried to use as a barricade earlier. Sango felt her self kick something; Sango knew then she had to find the light.
“Kagome? Where are you? Talk to me Kagome.”
Sango heard a faint groan from near Kagome's bed next to her closet. Sango now frantically began to locate the light switch. Her heart skipped a beat as she found it, but it stopped when she flipped the light on.
“Oh my God!” Sango gasped as her eyes fell on the heap of flesh that once resembled her friend. Sango went to Kagome's side and rolled Kagome over to face her. What she saw made her want to faint. Kagome was still holding her stomach protectively...
At first she couldn't speak.
“Miroku” she whispered as she her the sound of his voice downstairs. Suddenly her emotions, adrenaline and energy joined together and her voice became a heart-wrenching scream.
“MIROKU! MIROKUUU!”
