Kagome's Will
Chapter Five
Survival of a Long Lost Love
Miroku didn't know what to expect when he reached Kagome's room, but one thing he didn't expect was for Kagome to be intact. He couldn't make any true assumptions until he had seen Kagome. Although, when he did see her, he wished he hadn't.
As he entered, he looked around the room. It, like downstairs, was also in shambles, but blood was everywhere. Blood spatters were all over her walls; blood soaked the carpet as well as Kagome's bed. Miroku knew that he didn't want to see Kagome if she had lost this much blood. Miroku's gaze lifted to the young woman huddling over what seemed to be a human being, but was unrecognizable as such.
Kagome's body was bruised and beaten. What made this crime against his friend even more heinous was the fact that she was half naked. Her shirt looked like it had been cut away, along with her bra. Miroku then noticed Kagome's neck. Although it had little cuts, her throat appeared to be fine. What grabbed Miroku's attention was Kagome's mark.
“That fucking bastard. He tried to remove her mating mark.”
Sango looked up at him with a pain filled expression as tears poured down her cheeks.
“Miroku? If we don't do something, she isn't going to make it.” She cried, desperately trying to apply pressure to her wounds.
Miroku gently pried Kagome's protective death grip crossed he stomach apart. What he saw made him gag, and loudly. From her left lower abdomen to the right, and across her belly, a deep incision had been made. Kagome's father had seemingly ripped her unborn child from Kagome's womb and left her to bleed to death.
“It was the umbilical cord. That's what-.”
“Sango?” Kagome said in weak whisper. “Sango, he's trying to kill him! He's trying to kill my baby!”
“Shhhh.” It's all right; we here now we'll take care of everything, just stay with me, ok?
Her breathing was labored as she desperately tried to continue. “He wouldn't stop, Sango. I tried to fight him, but.” She gasped as the memories and pain came flooding back to her.
“H- H- He took him from me.” She said gasping. “I-I-I didn't even get-get to see him.” With that Kagome's eyes rolled into the back of her head and she went still.
“Kagome? Kagome! NO KAGOME! STAY WITH ME PLEASE!”
Sango looked to Miroku for help, but he wasn't there. He was gone.
-*-*-*-*-
Miroku left the room with Kagome's words repeating in his head.
`He's trying to kill him! He's trying to kill my baby!'
Another scene went through his head as he entered the kitchen.
* Flashback *
He and Sango watched from the bushes as Kagome's father came out the door with a large black garbage bag. They watched as he put the bag into the trashcan, walk calmly to his car, get in and drive away.'
* End Flashback *
Miroku headed for the Kitchen door. As he walked out the door he spotted the cans right around the corner, directly beneath Kagome's window. As he neared the garbage can he heard a whimper. When he opened it, he pulled out the trashcan and set it on the ground.
The rain came down harder as he pulled the bloody clothing and rags out of the bag before he finally came to what made the noise.
`It's alive.' Miroku thought. `Thank God you've got strong parents.' He quickly looked over the baby, knowing that the umbilical cord had already been severed. He found it to be unbound. Knowing the baby would bleed to death, Miroku quickly removed the tie from his hair and used it as a tourniquet for the extremely short umbilical cord. He gently wrapped the baby in his coat and turned just in time to see flashing lights come up the street, and just in time to hear Sango's plea.
“Kagome? Kagome! NO KAGOME! STAY WITH ME PLEASE!!”
Miroku looked up to the window, knew his friend didn't have much time. He quickly headed for the ambulance that had pulled up behind the patrol cars.
“PLEASE, Take him! He was cut from his mother's womb too early and his umbilical cord was left untied. He may be bleeding internally.”
“Where's the mother?”
“She's inside, upstairs! Please Hurry! She has severe injuries, I don't think she'll last much longer!”
The EMT took the baby from Miroku's arms into the back of the ambulance. He then motioned for the other ambulance to come forward. Miroku looked around. The shrine seemed to scream the injustices done on this night.
“THE MOTHERS ALIVE! HURRY GET A STRECHER IN HERE, NOW!!”
Miroku watched as the stretcher went in empty and appeared moments later, with a barley-conscious Kagome. He watched a Sango held her had tightly, gently reassuring her friend that it was going to be ok.
He then watched as the two women separated as Kagome was lifted into the ambulance and driven away. Miroku couldn't hold it anymore. The emotion, the adrenaline, and the shock- it was all just too much. With a calm face, he loudly heaved the contents of his stomach into a nearby bush. Which caught Sango's attention.
“Oh, Miroku.”
“It's all right Sango.” He assured her. “It'll be okay.” He said wiping his face.
The two turned to leave but were stopped by a short older man.
“Sango Taijyia?”
“Miroku Houshi?
“Yes?”
The two watched as a familiar face came through the crowd of officers that were currently sweeping the crime scene for evidence.
“I'm sorry we keep meeting like this.” He said solemnly.
“Yes, it is a shame.” Miroku replied. “This time I hope you understand we won't let her go unnoticed.”
“Believe me, Mr. Houshi, she hasn't. We know her father has abused her for some time now, but what we don't is for how long. Can you two tell me what caused this-horrible and hideous crime towards Miss Higurashi?”
“Surely you know Myoga.”
“No, that's why I asked Miss Taijyia. Why don't you tell me?”
“You know InuYasha, right?”
“Yes, I worked for his father for many years, God rest his soul. Now, I currently work for his brother aside from my duties as an officer of the peace.”
“Yes, well. Kagome is InuYasha's chosen. He claimed her, marked and mated with her.”
