Kagome's Will

Chapter Seventeen
Kikyo's Confession
InuYasha walked towards the shrine where Kagome had lived for the past nineteen or so years.
“The memories the place holds.” His thoughts though were brought down as the strong scent of blood hit his nose. As he reached the shrine steps, the blood smell turned to that of decay.
`No!' his mind screamed.
As he reached the house, he was met with a familiar voice.

“It took you long enough, little brother.” Sesshomaru said coldly as he walked out from behind the shrine.

“Sesshomaru? What happened?”

“You haven't put it together?”

“Put what together?”

Sesshomaru said nothing, instead he handed InuYasha the talisman that he had given Kagome.

“I gave that to Kagome before you returned from that business trip. She felt insecure without you around. So she came to me, hoping to find some security in some form of you.”

“I don't understand.”

“I learned something today.”

“No, no riddles Sesshomaru. Tell me what the hell is going on!”

“Let me, Sesshomaru.” Came a voice from behind. “You can tell him the details I don't know.”

Sesshomaru nodded as Kikyo walked towards the until she was in front of them. She looked up at InuYasha with said eyes.

“Our marriage is void InuYasha.”

“What?”

“I learned something, now you have to listen. Try to understand. That night, the night neither us remember? Do you know why we don't remember it?”

“….”

“We don't remember it because it never happened.”

“How can you say that?” he asked as he placed his hand on her belly.

“No, InuYasha. This isn't yours.”

“What?”

“I was told that the child was completely human, InuYasha. I was also informed that you cannot impregnate except on two nights out of the month. Neither happened to be the night I conceived.” Kikyo stared at InuYasha's gaze. She watched as it turned from shock, to hurt and finally anger.

“How could you tell me it was mine then?”

“Think about it InuYasha.” Sesshomaru reasoned. “You both woke up naked in bed with each other. Neither of you remembered the night before. Then a few weeks later, Kikyo learns she is with child. You yourself never gave it a second thought.”

“How?”

“I learned from Kagome, that not everything is as it seems.”

“What does that mean?”

“InuYasha, do your senses fail you?” Sesshomaru asked coyly. “Can you not smell the blood and decay?”

“Yes, it's Kagome's. But I also know that she isn't here.

“How?”

“Idiot, I'd be able to tell if my mate were here!”

“InuYasha. Look for your mark.”

InuYasha hesitated, but then he felt his neck for his mark.

“What the hell?” Kikyo handed him a compact mirror from her purse. His mate mark resembled a small scar more than anything.

“Kagome's father nearly beat her to death. She clung to life for the last three days. Then, for some reason she purified the blood you exchanged when you mated, thus releasing you from your promise.

“She did that so when she died, you wouldn't die with her.” Kikyo added.

“No, Kagome isn't dead. I would have sensed that.”

“She is dying InuYasha.” Kikyo explained. “Naraku used me as a way to get you and I out of the way. That way, he'd get Kagome. There was one problem though.”

“What?”

“Kagome was carrying your child.”

-*-*-*-*-

Back at the hospital, doctors were going in and out of Kagome's room as Mrs. Higurashi stood back out of the way, sobbing. Sango stood next to her, also sobbing as the doctors worked around them. Kagome's heart had stopped again. This time, she wasn't responding.

-*-*-*-*-

Miroku sat with Rin, Shippo and Kohaku in the Neonatal ICU watching the little boy, who now had all his father' features. They watched as a bright light engulfed the little boy and faded. To everyone' amazement, the child seemed to grow. While every one pondered the sight, Miroku knew what this meant. He bowed his head in silent prayer. Kagome had finally lost her battle.

-*-*-*-*-

InuYasha sat in the back seat with Kikyo as Sesshomaru drove back to the hospital. Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain in his chest, and then she left him. He felt her beautiful presence smile and then just disappear. Sesshomaru also felt the emptiness the air held. He pushed the car to its limits as the neared the hospital.

He didn't bother to take the elevator, he ran up the stairs. Not waiting for Kikyo or Sesshomaru, InuYasha followed his mate's scent.

“Kagome!” he screamed. Pushing his way into the ICU, he knocked down the doctors that surrounded his beloved's room.

“Okay, that's it.” One of the doctors said. “Call it. Time of death-.”

“KAGOME!” InuYasha pushed people out of his way until he reached Kagome. He took her into his arms. “No, Kags please. Don't leave me. I love you and only you. Fight this!”

To everyone's amazement, a small blip appeared on the heart monitors screen. Then another, signaling that she was still alive. InuYasha's voice had brought her back. Now the doctors worked furiously to re-hook her up to all the necessary machines. Once they were finished, they left. All giving InuYasha a sad look.

“InuYasha?” InuYasha looked over at the two red-eyed women in the corner. He turned his gaze back to the girl who clung to life at his request.

“How could you?” He whispered.

“What?” Sango asked tearfully.

“HOW COULD YOU NOT FUCKING TELL ME?” He screamed. His own tears flowed freely as his eyes held Kagome's face. “You had no right. None.”

“InuYasha, it was her choice.” Sango said shakily. “We wanted to, but Kagome wanted to protect you.”

“Protect me? No, she did this to spite me. Because I choose honor over her love. THE BITCH HAD NO RIGHT!” A loud slap was heard throughout the hospital wing. InuYasha faced the woman in from of him, fear, anger and grief evident in his eyes.

“SHUT YOUR MOUTH!” Mrs. Higurashi exclaimed angrily, shaking with emotion. “YOU WILL NOT SPEAK OF MY DAUGHTER IN SUCH A WAY! SHE LOVED YOU! SHE DIED TO PROTECT YOU AND YOU SPEAK OF HER THIS WAY? YOU DID NOT DESERVE MY DAUGHTERS LOVE!”

“You did this to yourself InuYasha. You made the decision; Kagome accepted it with an open heart. She loved you so much she made the sacrifice of her own honor to protect yours!”

“Oh yeah? Then why'd she try to hide it?”

“What do you mean?” Sango asked frowning.

InuYasha pulled out the talisman and threw it to Sango who caught it.

“She hid it from everyone. If she sacrificed her honor, then why did she wear that?”
Sango lost it.

“YOU FUCKING SON OF A BITCH!” This threw InuYasha off balance. “DO YOU NOT SEE THE BROKEN GIRL IN FRONT OF YOU? SHE IS DEAD BECAUSE YOU FAILED HER!” Sango took a step as if though she was going to kill him. SHE DID THIS TO PROTECT HER CHILD, YOUR CHILD! TO PROTECT YOU, IDIOT!”

“ENOUGH!” They all turned to see Sesshomaru in the doorway with Dr. Kota. “InuYasha, do you wish Kagome to live?”

“What the hell kind of question is that?”

“Do you want her to live, yes or no?”

“Of course I do.”

“Then you will need to remark her.”

“Re-mark her? How?”

“The same way you did before, this time the mingling of blood will be done by way of transfusion.” Dr. Kota explained. “This time, it will be permanent.”

“Why? What makes it any different than before?” InuYasha asked puzzled.

“She is the protector of the Shikon no Tama, right?”

“Yes.” They all answered.

“Well, it's my guess, that she purified the jewel by destroying the evil that was giving her energy to live. The energy she was using to protect he pup. However this energy was also corrupting the Shikon jewel. Thus, she must have made a decision to purify it. That or-.

“Where was this energy coming from?” Mrs. Higurashi asked.

“Naraku.” Everyone turned their heads and looked a Kikyo. “InuYasha, it may be too late.”

“Why?”

“Naraku may have already won. I saw his heart as I left her mind. He planned to take her against her will. She may have purified the jewel to ensnare him with in it. Or, he may have taken her, which would result in her child's death.”

“WHAT?”
