Chapter 66. The way home . . .


Authors' note: I had a review ask why I didn't use Belldandy's
true Norse name. Sesshomaru only knew that she was a goddess, no
name. Kagome only knows her as "Belldandy." And, that is how she
introduces herself in the series, So, I am using "Belldandy" in
this setting. (One of my rough drafts of this chapter, did have
kag/sess visiting, Iceland, circa 1000ad, and meeting them in
that setting, but, in the interests on moving along the story, I
melded her into the anime world . . . )





Kagome's mother looks out of the open kitchen window. ‘Did I just
hear something?'

She puts down the soapy dish and bends over the sink, so she can
hear better.

"FUCK! HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!" Inu-yasha's scream comes through
the walls of the well-house.

Mrs. H grabs a towel, to wipe her hands quickly, as she runs to
the door.

"Mom?" Sota calls from his room. But, his mother is already out
fo the house by the time he reaches the top of the stairs. "I
thought I heard Inu-yasha?" he calls to the empty house.

He slowly walks down the stairs . . .

*RING!* the telephone begins to ring.


At the Well house . . .

Mrs. H opens the door.

Sitting on the edge of the well is Inu-yasha. He is literally
covered in blood. In his arms are two small children. They, also,
are covered in blood.

He looks up at Mrs. H. "Help them!" Mrs. h can see an ugly gash
on his face stop bleeding and begin to heal.

She quickly runs down the stairs, "What happened?" She cries.

"Fucking Naraku" Inu-yasha growls out as he lays the two small
children, with surprising gentleness, on the ground by the well.

"He gathered up an army of demons and attacked the village!" Inu-
yasha continues to yell in anger. "These two were playing in the
fields!"

His voice catches, "they gave us a couple of minutes warning,
but." Inu-yasha lashes out and slams his fist on the ground.

The well-house shakes from the force of the blow. A crater forms
. . .

"Goddamned Shippo," Inu-yasha growls out, "he fucking tried to
trick them. And Rin . . . " the sounds of the teeth as he grinds
them together echo in the small house.

His voice changes, into a nearly a whisper, as he says, "She
tried to help him."

Mrs. H, while Inu-yasha is talking, is rolling the children over
and using her towel to clean the blood off the children.

"Shippo? And Rin?" She asks, as her white towel quickly turns'
blood red. Shippo moans at her touch, but Rin doesn't react to
being cleaned.

"Yeah. I was just going to hide them in the well, so I could
attack Naraku without worrying about them, but the damn thing
shifted me here."

Mrs. H looks at him. He is standing by the edge of the well,
gripping Tetsusaiga's hilt.

"Go on, Inu-yasha." She says, "your friends will need you. I can
take care of them."

She stares into his eyes, "And kill the bastard that did this."
She orders in a toneless, hard, voice. The suppressed emotions in
her voice, causes even Inu-yasha to go pale.


Inu-yasha nods, a sharp abrupt nod, and jumps down the well.

"The phone . . . " Sota starts to yell, then, "Inu-yasha?!" he
yells from the open well house door. "Was he just here?"

Mrs. H looks up, "yes! Sota. I need your help! Go to the kitchen
and get Kagome's spare first aid kit and bring it back! And RUN!"

Sota looks down. He can see the blood pooling by the well-house
and the red stains on his mother house dress.


"The phone?" he asks without thinking, through the open door, he
can hear the ringing.

"Ignore it! Get me that kit!" his mother yells.

Sota spins and runs back into the house.

Kagome's mother examines the two injured children.

Shippo is breathing well, and while is he is bleeding profusely,
all the cuts don't seem to be life-threatening. However, there is
a large ugly scar around his neck. ‘His healing powers must have
saved him.' Mrs. h thinks.

Rin, though, is badly hurt. The compound fracture of her left leg
is the most obvious injury, but, blood wells up from her scalp,
and she's not reacting to any touch . . .

Inside the house . . .

"You have called the Higurashi residence." Sota can hear the
answering machine click on in the background as he rushes into
the kitchen.


Sota grabs a chair and slides it, squealing, across the kitchen
floor. He jumps up on it, opens the cabinet and finds the handle
of the first aid kit and pulls it to his chest.

"IF someone is home, please pick up!"

Sota freezes and looks at the phone . . .


Back at the well house.

‘The phone. Who would be calling now . . . ' Mrs. H shakes her
head. ‘Actually, that's a good idea. One of the neighbors is a
nurse and I know that she works nights. So, she'll be home now.'
She places her hand on Rin's brow. ‘She'll need professional
help.'

She frowns, "but, why did they go through the well?" she whispers
. . .


Sota appears at the well-house door. He is holding the first aid
kit in one hand and the phone in the other.


"MOM!" He screams! "Kagome is on the phone!"

End: prolog . . .


Kagome, as she watches Keiichi and Sesshomaru walk into the temple, shivers.

The floor of the temple has a complex design inscribed on it. Belldandy directs where everyone
should stand, to help the spell she's planning.

Sesshomaru rubs her shoulders as he stands behind her, "My consort?" he whispers. He can feel
her goose bumps.

"I don't know, Sesshomaru. Suddenly . . . I felt like something bad happened."

Belldandy nods, "your ability to perceive people, places, and emotions are better than I expected,
Kagome."

Kagome looks sharply at her, "what is it then?"

"Your opponent has traditionally gone on the offensive whenever you and your friends were hurt
or weakened, correct." Belldandy states.

Kagome glumly nods. She bites her lips. "I see. He's done something then."

"That would be my guess." Belldandy replies, "but, unfortunately, I need to take care of the cube,
before I can help you with that."

"You are going to help us, goddess Belldandy?" Sesshomaru asks.

Belldandy smiles, "of course, Sesshomaru Lord of the western lands. But, first, may I have the
cube, please?" She asks.

Sesshomaru reaches into his robes.

He frowns as he tries to pull the cube out, but something prevents him.

He growls. Everyone can hear his claws scrap against the metal of the cube.

"Sesshomaru?" Kagome asks.

He shakes his head. ‘This thing will not beat me. I will pull it out and give it to her.' He thinks in
anger.

"Need some help?" Skuld asks, as she pulls out an indescribable mechanical object from her
clothes.

Sesshomaru glares at her.

She shrinks into herself, "hey! I was just trying to help!" She cries out in self-defense.

"I do not need any help!" Sesshomaru yells as he rips the cube out of his robes, ripping apart his
robes in the process.

Urd lustily grins as Sesshomaru exposes himself.

Keiichi, somehow, is standing next to Skuld and shields her eyes.

Sesshomaru begins to curse the cube, "Now that we don't need you. I..."

The cube pulses.

It is obviously trying to take over Sesshomaru.

Kagome starts to grab Sesshomaru and help him, but.

"Cthulhu's toy." Belldandy begins to say in a, for her, harsh tone. (For most other people it's a
nice tone.) "I just wish to return you to your creator. Please do not make things hard."

The cube stops pulsing.

Sesshomaru drops the cube to the ground and steps back a couple of steps, into Kagome's arms.

"Cthulhu?" Kagome asks. ‘When I said that name . . . Goose pimples and shivers ran up and
down my spine.' She thinks.

Belldandy reaches down and picks up the cube. "Shh. Everyone."

She allows a slight grimace, but removes her complex earring.

"Power." Sesshomaru whispers, "As she removed that."

"Yes, from the anime, that earring dampens her power. Massively." Kagome whispers, backs.

Belldandy glances around, and nodding to Keiichi, "Everyone might wish to cover their ears, I'm
going to have to use Yggdrasil code speech for this spell. And that language isn't meant for
mortal ears."

Keiichi smiles and holds up a pair of earmuffs, "Skuld warned me." He puts them on.

"Hey! Those aren't my specials!" Skuld calls. "I made those specifically for you!"

"It's ok," Belldandy says. Skuld, after a couple more grumbles about various special features,
subsides.

Belldandy begins to speak.

Even through the earmuffs Keiichi grimaces. Sesshomaru covers his ears from the whine.
Kagome grimaces. ‘It's almost like I can understand it.' She thinks, ‘Like English, as I was
learning it, maybe?'


A man-shaped being appears in the center of the protection spell. His head, though, is shaped like
an octopus, not a human. Otherwise, his body appears to be human.

His odd-shaped eyes glance at Keiichi, Sesshomaru, and Kagome.

"This spell includes protections from them, young Cthulhu. Your gaze will not cause them to
become insane. Nor, will your presence cause insanity." Belldandy states in a calm voice.

A loud sigh is heard from the creature Belldandy calls Cthulhu. "My fun is over. I take it?" his
rumbling voice echoes throughout the temple.

From leaks in the protection spell, a couple of nearby lovebirds begin to attack each other . . .
simply from his presence on this world . . .

Belldandy flips him the cube, "yes."

Cthulhu looks at Belldandy. He looks at Urd and Skuld. Both of them have removed their
earrings as well. He glances at Kagome and Sesshomaru. They are also prepared for combat.

He sighs again, "no. to attack now is too predictable. I hate to be predicted."

Sesshomaru growls, "Why?"

Cthulhu glances at Sesshomaru, "I was testing this." He tosses his cube in the palm of his hand.
"When I appeared in your universe, one of the local piss-ant gods approached me."

His cold contempt for Sesshomaru shows in his tone as he continues, "I was going to send you
and that girl child to some deserted waste."

His tone is full of hatred, "Your ordered behavior offends me. And I was going to punish you for
it."

He smiles, maybe, his tone becomes joking, "I wondered would you kill her and eat her? Or
would you kill yourself, so she could live longer?"

Sesshomaru growls. Kagome grabs his arm holding him back.

"The other god, though, mentioned sending you and her." He nods to Kagome. "To another
universe, as a test to see how quickly you two would kill each other. I agreed. It would be an
interesting test for my new cube." He giggles, "he tricked me, I can see that now. Rare, that is."

"It is not like you to be this fore coming," Urd remarks.

"Then, I've become too predictable." Cthulhu coolly replies.

A pause . . .

"I am Chaos." He glares at the three goddesses. "And I will win our war. Chaos will defeat
Order."



Belldandy replies, "We make sure that Order is preserved throughout the universe, Cthulhu."


Belldandy, Urd, Skuld begins to chant more Yggdrasil code speech spells.

Cthulhu glares at them.




The temple expands . . .

Perhaps a universe is inclosed in the temple . . .

Perhaps a universe is included within each atom of the temple . . .

Kagome, Sesshomaru and Keiichi can see wars, death, destruction, life, peace, pleasures . . . all
of which is mixed together . . .

Order fights Chaos . . .

"The final fight will not conclude." Cthulhu growls, "Not now. But, I will win. Right Skuld?"

He vanishes . . .


Belldandy, Urd and Skuld fall to their knees, gasping for breath.

Urd coughs, "I really, really hate that bastard."

"He is part of nature, Urd. Like we are. We cannot destroy him, to do so, we would destroy
ourselves." Belldandy says.

"I know." Urd replies, in a tried voice, "I know. It's just. I really want to smash his head in."

"I killed him." Sesshomaru whispers, "I know I did."

Skuld shakes her head, "no. You killed a simulacrum of him."

Keiichi moves over to help Belldandy stand. Belldandy smiles, thinly, at him, "could you help
me to bed, Keiichi. That battle drained me. More than I thought it would."

"Of course." He whispers as he gathers Belldandy into his arms and carries her to her room.

Sesshomaru growls, "So. All that was just a test for that cube?"

Urd nods, "yes." She sighs, "He'll try to use it to move his worshipers from universe to
universe."

"He'll try?" Kagome asks.

Skuld smiles, "While Belldandy was occupying him, I was altering the cube. It's harmless, now."

"Oh . . . " Kagome sighs.

"How soon before we are taken home?" Sesshomaru growls. ‘I've been away too long. Rin's
been alone for far too long. And, like Kagome, I feel that something bad has or is, happening.'
He thinks.

Urd and Skuld look at each other.

"I've got a way to transport you home!" Skuld smiles.

"I visit there all the time," Urd replies, "And my method isn't some mechanical trap, like hers is.
Mine method is tried and true magic."

"My machines work!" Skuld glares at Urd. She pulls out a bomb. "See!"

Kagome grabs the bomb, before she can throw it. "Let's see them, ok?" She says in relief. ‘It
didn't go off . . . '

A few minutes later in Skuld's room.

She drags out a huge home-theater wide-screen TV.

"Hmm. Who knows this might work?" Urd grins. "At least the TV part is a good idea."

Sesshomaru looks at question to Kagome. "Later. I'll explain, later." Kagome whispers back.

She brings out a highly modified DVD player and a couple of DVD's.

"Inu-yasha!" Kagome exclaims as she grabs the Inu-yasha DVD from Skuld's grasp.

Skuld, giggles, "yes, You and your friends are just anime characters in this world, Kagome." She
points to the TV. "I'll turn that on, put in the DVD. And send you home."

Kagome looks at Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru shrugs. She grimaces, ‘he doesn't understand.'

"Play, just play the DVD, Skuld, please." Kagome asks, "Sesshomaru doesn't understand."

Skuld shrugs, but puts in the DVD and pushes play.

The opening theme song and sequence from the first episode begin.

Sesshomaru's mouth drops open.

He closes it.

He clenches his teeth.

He grinds his teeth . . .

"No!" He orders, "We will not use that method. I am not some . . . " He pauses trying to find a
term he can use . . .

"I am real, not this!" He smashes the TV in very small pieces.

Kagome grabs Skuld's hammer before she can attack Sesshomaru. "Kagome!" Skuld screams.

"You're not going to stop him." Kagome replies, handing back the hammer, "besides it's too
late."

Skuld growls at Sesshomaru.

Sesshomaru smiles, a very self-satisfied smile .

Kagome shakes her head. She pauses, then asks, "How many episodes?"

"Over one-hundred and fifty." Skuld replies. "Plus movies."

Kagome pauses.

Sesshomaru asks, "Are you thinking about looking at them?"

Kagome slowly nods. "Maybe. It would be like knowing the future, I think."

He snorts, "That is not a pleasant thing, Kagome."

She stares at him, "Huh?"

"If you know the future," Sesshomaru begins, "then there is nothing to look forward to. You will
know all the mistakes that you will make, and, even worse, you know that you will make them
and cannot change them."

"Oh." She glances at Skuld.

Skuld, the goddess of the Future, nods. "I don't know the future, myself, Kagome. I like
surprises, so, I don't look at it. Or, at least, I make sure that I don't look at myself in the future."

Sesshomaru nods, "The future is already defined. But, I, at least, wish for the illusion of being
able to control my actions."

Kagome nods, "yes, if the future is fixed, then there is no free will."

Urd shakes her head, "There is free will, Kagome. But, using that free will effectively. That is the
problem and the question."

Kagome nods. She sighs, "That's a far too weighty subject for me right now." She glances at
Urd, "What about you?"

"You want to get home?" Urd asks.

She and Sesshomaru nod.

"Come to my room."

In Urd's room.

Urd pulls out an old-fashioned loom. It is two meters by two meters square and full of
multicolored strings. She plays with the strings for a second. "Now, what was the setting for that
universe?" she asks herself.

"Ah. Now I remember." She taps the loom. The strings vanish and the loom opens into
blackness. "The gate." She smiles as she points to it.

"All you have to do is to walk through it."

Sesshomaru grabs Kagome hand.

Kagome nods. "Thank you, Urd." She bows to her.

"Thank you, Urd." Sesshomaru bows to her.


"Thank you, Skuld" She bows to Skuld.

Skuld flips her the DVD. "A gift!"

Kagome looks at it and puts it up, ‘you can't refuse a gift from a goddess.' She thinks.

"Let's go." Sesshomaru growls.

"One second." Kagome replies.

"Also, pass my thanks to Belldandy." Kagome asks.

Urd and Skuld nod.

Sesshomaru grabs Kagome's hand and they walk through the loom.


"Why did you want to leave so quickly?" Kagome asks as they walk through a multicolored
corridor.

"Those Goddess's," Sesshomaru replies, "I . . . " he shakes his head. "I just didn't feel
comfortable around them."

Kagome glances at him, she thinks, ‘was it because they were more powerful than him? Or was it
because he had to treat them with respect? Or does he just dislike authority figures? One of these
days, I'll ask.' She stares at an opening that has just formed.

"I think we're home." Kagome whispers, nodding to the doorway that has formed.

Still holding hands, they walk through the doorway.



Back at Anime World . . .


"Urd?" Skuld asks, "when you visit that world, don't you travel to a nightclub in New York?"

"Sure." Urd replies, "the club is a great place to party."

"And you sent them there, right?"

Urd blinks. She opens her mouth. "I forgot to change the setting, didn't I."

Skuld shakes her head.


Back with Kagome and Sesshomaru . . .


It is dark, at night.

But . . . the lights of New York City, change that.

"Where are we?" Sesshomaru asks. He coughs, hard. "The air."


Kagome looks around, her eyes wide. They are standing in what appears to be an alleyway. A
couple of signs on one of the walls, states: "deliveries for Night Club. Trucks only"


She points between a couple of large buildings. "That, Sesshomaru, is the Empire State
Building." She swallows, "We must be in New York City."

"Hey!" A group of young men, with a couple of young women approach. "You two going to
some sort of costume party!" one of the calls out.

Kagome and Sesshomaru look at each other. He raises an eyebrow.

"Just follow along, please," Kagome whispers.

"Yes!" Kagome smiles, "An anime costume party!"

"Cool!" one of the young women replies. The group of about a dozen young people gathers
around Kagome and Sesshomaru.

"Where!" another says.

"Well . . . " Kagome replies, "That seems to be the problem. I've gotten lost." She smiles, "Could
I borrow a cell phone. I've seemed to have lost mine."

A couple of them look at each other. One of the boys, smiling as his eyes search Kagome's legs.
"What's your name?" he asks.

"Higurashi Kagome." Kagome replies, smiling. "Please, I'll only need it for a couple of
minutes."

The boy hands Kagome his phone.

"Just a minute." Kagome smiles. She flips the phone open and dials . . .


The phone rings . . .

The answering machine picks up.

"If someone is there, please pick up!"

"Kagome!" Sota yells.

"Sota!" relief colors Kagome's voice. "I need to talk to mother."

"Yes. She's in the well house. I think that Inu-yasha is there!" Sota replies.

"Hurry!" Kagome calls, "Get him or mom on the phone!"

As she can hear Sota run to the well house, Kagome thinks, ‘we're in the states. Neither
Sesshomaru nor myself has any identity papers. Nor, do we have any money. And we've got to
get to Tokyo . . . '

The end of chapter 66


And . . .


The end of the Kagome! Where are you!

They are home, (or at least, on the correct world) so . . .

Authors' note: Due to storms in the Dallas area on tues/wed, I did not have as much time as I
wanted for this chapter. So, if it seems rushed, that the reason.

An author's: I am planning on attending Project A-kon 15 in Dallas TX this weekend. (Hopefully
all three days, but, things could alter that.) This will interrupt my posting schedule, so don't
expect anything on Sunday. (I've posted a picture of myself on my fanfiction.net profile page.
Hopefully, I'll be able to meet some of the fans of my writing, grin . . . )

And . . .

I am planning on stopping Kagome where are you and starting a sequel "Kagome's Return" This
will start up in a couple of weeks. There will be a longer than normal break. (A couple of
reasons: 1 truthfully, I need, it. I'll probably be posting a couple of older Ranma stories over the
next week or so. 2. I want to finish off motherhood and shard in Kyoto stories before starting
Kagome's return. And there are a couple of other stories that I'm thinking about.)

When will start "Kagome's Return"? Shrug. Probably not before June 17.
