InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Keeper of my Heart ❯ Chapter 2 ( Chapter 2 )
Keeper of my Heart
By Cyfris
Disclaimer: I don own nothing!! Go way!!
This is an AU. The Shikon no Tama never existed and Kagome is a priestess in training. I know this idea has been used before, but I can guarantee you, this is NOT like other fics. Oh, and this is a Sesshoumaru/Kagome romance. And if Jaken's language last chapter is anything, then this fic is definitely not for little kids. I really don't want their mothers flaming me about what their children asked them to explain. ::shudders:: On a happier note, lots of Jaken bashing in this chappie! I hate that little toad! >_<
Gomen nasai if this chapter is terrible, I'm having some really bad writers block. -_-;;
An incredibly special thanks to Dark Princess, Talia, and Mara-chan (thank you for your offer, I'll think about it!), who are the FIRST peoples to review my fic!! YAY!!!! I'm not going to dedicate this chappie to you, cause you guys deserve better (see note above). THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!!

Kagome panted, her vision blurring slightly as she looked at the mountain towering ahead of her. For the past week, she had been following Sesshoumaru, Rin, and that…toad, and it seemed as though the youkai was purposefully taking the hardest rout to his castle. She knew it lay somewhere in the Western Lands, though it seemed as though they were always on a northwest course. She gritted her teeth, supporting herself with her bow. She knew why that damned youkai was taking the longer rout; he wanted to see how long she lasted before she gave up. At least nightfall was coming soon, she knew they would have to stop, Rin was only human. She would be able to find their fire, and catch up.

Gasping, Kagome sat against a rock, staring at the mountainside in disbelief. There wasn't a fire! Did that mean they weren't stopping? She growled. It wasn't fair!
Getting her breath back, she stood up quickly, only to fall down again. She sighed angrily. Great, now her legs aren't working either. Supporting herself on the rock, she took a step, then another. She let go of the rock, and promptly fell again. Growling, wanting to scream her frustrations to the sky, she lay down next to the rock, curling up around her bow. Maybe, she thought, a little rest wouldn't be so bad. She closed her eyes, and was asleep in moments.

A pair of golden eyes peered at the sleeping figure from the trees. Unbeknownst to the miko, Sesshoumaru had ordered Rin and Jaken to make camp with no fire. They had complied, though Rin had said she was a little cold, before going to sleep. At least it was summer, and the nights didn't get too cold.
Sesshoumaru, oldest son of the Lord of the Western Lands, was confused. This human, which had been following him with what looked like skill but he believed was only luck, was different from the other humans he had met. They were all cowards, sniveling heaps of dirt that were too frightened of his family to even look at them. But her, this miko had stood up to him, looked him in the eyes, and actually threatened him. The absurdity of it all made him want to laugh, but his cool mask held firm, not letting any emotion pass. Still, this human…she was either extraordinarily foolish, or enraged beyond reason.
His eyes flickered to the surrounding brush. Something had made the bushes move. It could have been a bird, but…
There, it happened again. Sesshoumaru stood up on the branch from which he had been observing the miko. No bird could make that big of rustle, and, it was closer to the girl.
Jumping silently to the ground, he glared at the girl, who merely rolled over in her sleep. The stupid human, she was so deep in sleep, she couldn't even tell when she was in obvious danger. Blending into the shadows, Sesshoumaru waited to see what would happen.

Kagome rolled over again, drifting in and out of sleep. She was so tired, that she didn't want to wake up, but her senses screamed at her that danger was coming. Rising out of her sleep, the first thing she noticed was that there was defiantly danger around. Second, was that she couldn't move. As these two basically go together, one could ultimately say she had a very rude awakening.
"What the hell…who did this?!"
A snake like head appeared in her vision. The head drew closer, revealing a youkai with a snakehead and the torso of a human male. The rest of the body was snake. The head was close enough to hers that the tongue flickered out and tasted her skin. An evil sort of smirk appeared on the youkai's lips, and he hissed "You…miko, you haave the Ssshhikon nooo Taamaa…."
"T-the what?" Kagome whispered, trying her hardest not to look frightened. Her eyes feverishly looked about for her weapon.
The snake youkai frowned. Wrapping its body tighter around her, he leaned in even closer and whispered/hissed dangerously. "Peerrhapss you didn't heeaarr mee. Where isss the Ssshhikon nooo Taamaa?"
Kagome growled. Slowly, she raised her hand as best she could, letting it hover above the snake's scaly flesh. "No, I believe my hearing is just fine. I have know idea what you're talking about. Now, let. Me. Go." She said slowly, as though it was the snake who was hard of hearing.
"Don't plaayy gamessss with mee, giiirl." He leaned back and sniffed the air around her. "I sssmell it on yoouu." He constricted her tighter, until Kagome began to gasp for breath. "Give it tooo meee, or I'll kill youu!"
Kagome clasped her hand on the snake's scales, grasping it tightly. Powers surged in through her hand, beginning to disintegrate the flesh. "Yeah, too bad you wont be around long enough to do it!" A bright flash of light, and the snake lay writhing on the ground, screaming, as its body slowly turned to ash.
Kagome watched as the remains were blown away by the wind, then, dead tired and spent of energy, she slumped to the ground, completely dead to the world.

This human, is far more powerful then I expected. Sesshoumaru had watched the entire battle from his hiding place in the shadows. His youkai ears had picked up everything exchanged between the miko and the youkai. Was the youkai right, that this girl has the Shikon no Tama? If so, why haven't I noticed it before? Could it be she had been concealing it, so that even I, Sesshoumaru, could not sense it? Is her power truly that great? Finally coming out of the shadows, he picked up her bow, which the youkai had thrown into the brush, then picked up the girl and slung her over his shoulder. She merely moaned in exhaustion. Actually smirking, which was barely a twitch of the lips for the youkai, he flew off towards the campsite. We cant have you dieing now can we, after all, you have finally peaked my interest, little miko.

My Christmas gift to all of you! For all of you who had ideas, I will use them another time, but this was just so perfect that I had to use this. And, okay, I lied. The Shikon does come into play, but it doesn't play a huge part in the fic. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND FANFICTION FOR ALL!!!! (Please review!)
