Chapter 6: Freaky Friday

“Did it have a reason for the attack?” Sango asked Kagome as the four friends walked home from school on Friday. “I think it might have been scared.” Kagome answered with her hand to her chin.

 

InuYasha sighed. “Kagome, are you still talking about that little runt? I told you to forget about it.”

 

Kagome stopped walking and turned around to face InuYasha. “I can't just forget about it! It was a baby, remember?” She pointed out with the same pity in her voice.

 

Just then the tiny youkai jumped out of the wood again and flung another blue flame at them. InuYasha blocked it with his sleeve and punched him on the head again. “How stupid are you to try that a second time?” He asked narrowing his eyes at it.

 

The little youkai rubbed the huge bump on its head and started to cry. “InuYasha!” Kagome scorned as she pushed past him to get to the crying fur ball. Kagome picked it up and cradled it in her arms. “It's okay, he's not gonna hurt you anymore.”

 

It looked up at her with big puppy dog eyes and pointed at InuYasha accusingly. “Feh.” InuYasha said crossing his arms in his sleeves.

 

“Why'd you attack us?” Kagome asked rocking it in her arms. “Me… Scared. Mommy… Daddy… Gone.” It said between sniffles. “See? He's just a baby kitsune that's been orphaned.” Kagome explained to her friends.

 

“Me… Shippo.” The little kitsune announced as he snuggled into Kagome's chest. “He's so cute!” Sango exclaimed looking at Shippo starry-eyed. “He is rather adorable.” Miroku added.

 

“Feh. He's ugly if you ask me.” InuYasha stated with his arms still crossed. Kagome shot him a glare that made him have to take a step back. “InuYasha!”

 

That sent InuYasha cowering behind Sango. “Save me.” He squeaked.

 

Kagome started walking home. “Coming?” She asked sweetly to the rest of her friends. Then Sango, Miroku, and InuYasha, still frightened, followed.

“Hello Mom!” Kagome yelled when she got in the door. “Hello sweetie. Who's this?” Her mother asked stepping up to her. “This is Shippo.” Kagome said rocking him in her arms again.

 

“Hello there.” Her mother said offering her finger to the little kitsune.” Shippo reached out his tiny hand, grabbed her index finger, and shook it.

 

“Mom, Shippo's an orphan. Do you think he could stay with us?” Kagome asked with puppy dog eyes. For extra effect, Shippo added his puppy dog eyes too.

 

“He has nowhere else to go does he?” Her mom asked with pity in her voice. “Where would he sleep Kagome, he might get lost forever in the guest bed.”

 

Kagome lit up. “I have a baby doll bed that would be big enough.” Kagome said hopefully.

 

“He can stay, but keep in mind there are two babies in this house now.” She smiled as she gestured upstairs to Sota's room.

 

Shippo pouted. “I no baby! Me two!” Shippo shouted putting up two fingers.

 

Kagome's mother laughed. “But you're still smaller than my baby.” She pointed out with a smile. “Kagome, why don't you take Shippo up to your room and get him settled in?”

 

“Okay Mom.” Kagome said walking up the stairs with Shippo.

 

“Shippo, can you fit in here?” Kagome asked pointing to the baby bed on her night stand.

 

Shippo jumped up on the table and snuggled into the bed. “Yes, I can.” He said smiling up at her.

 

“Is it comfy?” Kagome asked tilting her head slightly. Shippo nodded his head with another smile.

InuYasha walked in his front door and stepped into the kitchen to find his brother.

 

“InuYasha.” He said looking down at him.

 

“What do you want?” He asked looking up at him with a glare. That didn't faze him at the slightest and he kept talking. “I'm going out tonight and have hired a babysitter to watch over you.”

 

InuYasha shot Sesshomaru a look of disbelief. “Are you kidding me? I can look after myself. And since when did you care about me?” Sesshomaru sighed. “You are a child InuYasha and are not fit to be left alone in this house.”

 

InuYasha crossed his arms. “Feh. Whatever.” With that InuYasha went up the stairs only to be called down again an hour later.

 

He was surprised at who he saw in the front doorway. A woman and a man with matching red eyes. The woman was wearing a nice black dress, big red earrings, and had her black hair up in a bun. While the wavy haired man was dressed casually in a navy shirt with white horizontal stripes and jeans.

 

“InuYasha, this is your babysitter.” Sesshomaru said pointing to the man. “And this is your date.” The man said smoothly pointing to the woman next to him.

 

“Date?” InuYasha asked raising an eyebrow. “Yes, that is my reasoning for hiring a babysitter for you.” Sesshomaru explained also raising his eyebrow.

 

“Sesshomaru, are you ready to go?” The woman asked calmly as she took as step toward him. “Yes.” Sesshomaru answered just as calmly and stepped out the door as the red eyed man stepped in.

 

“Take care of him.” Sesshomaru instructed as he walked to his car with the woman. “Alright. Take care of my sister.” The man responded as he closed the door.

 

He turned to InuYasha. “Hello there. You must be Sesshomaru's little brother InuYasha.”

 

“Yeah. And… Who the hell are you?” InuYasha asked raising both eyebrows at the man.

 

He laughed. “Oh how rude of me. My name is Naraku. And I will be your babysitter for the evening.” He said with a playful bow.

 

This guy's a weirdo. “And who was that girl?” InuYasha asked getting freaked out.

 

“That was my older sister Kagura.” Naraku answered with a smile.

 

“That's nice but I'm going upstairs.” InuYasha sighed as he started to walk to the stair case.

 

“Oh no, InuYasha. It's time for dinner.” Naraku informed.

 

InuYasha stopped. “But it's only three.”

 

“I know. But you have to get to bed early tonight.”

 

“It's Friday. There's no school tomorrow.” InuYasha stated anxiously.

 

Naraku laughed again. “Ah yes, but you are a young boy who needs his rest.”

 

InuYasha's mouth was agape. “You're kidding me.”

 

“I assure you I am not.” He said seriously.

Kagome called Sango and Miroku to tell them the good news. They were quite happy for her.

 

“That's great Kagome! But have you thought about school? He'd be at the house until you came back.” Sango pointed out over the phone. “Don't worry about that, my mom and I figured out a solution to that problem. He came take naps, play with my toys, play with the baby and Buyo, and help my mom around the house. He'll have tons to do.” Kagome answered cheerfully.

 

“He'll be able to play with us when we get home from school also.” Miroku added. They were having a conference call. “Yeah, but I'm a little worried about InuYasha.” Kagome stated. Miroku agreed. “He does beat up on him a lot.”

 

“We'll be able to keep him under control though. Did you see how scared he was when you glared at him Kagome?” Sango asked happily. Kagome giggled. “Yeah, I saw that.”

 

“You should tell InuYasha about it too. I'm sure he'll be happy if you are, even if he doesn't show it.” Miroku persuaded. “Alright. I'll call him. Bye guys.” Kagome said as she hung up. Now to tell InuYasha. He probably wouldn't care but Miroku thought that he'd be happy if she was so, it was worth a shot.

 

When she called he answered but then hung up. That was odd. She'd have to tell him in person because he was there after all.

InuYasha was disgusted at what he saw on his dinner plate.

 

“You're not expecting me to actually eat this?” InuYasha said with disdain.

 

“Oh yes, it's very good for a growing boy.” Naraku proclaimed taking a bite of the broccoli.

 

InuYasha shuddered with disgust. “In case you haven't noticed my brother and I are dog demons. We don't do the whole vegetable thing. We're carnivorous.”

 

“Nice word InuYasha but as I recall you're only a half demon. And you will eat it because your brother put me in charge of you and you have to do what I say.” He countered coolly.

 

Then the phone rang. InuYasha didn't want to waste this opportunity. InuYasha looked at the Caller ID to see that it was Kagome. He picked it up.

 

“Hey Kagome, listen this guy-“

 

Naraku took the phone from his hand and hung it up.

 

“Hey! What the hell?!” InuYasha yelled in frustration as Naraku put the phone back.

 

“You're little friend called you during dinner. That is very rude.”

 

InuYasha was starting to get really pissed now. “Well normal people don't eat dinner at three on a Friday!”

 

“Sit and eat.” Naraku ordered.

 

InuYasha narrowed his eyes at him and sat down but refused to eat.

Kagome was at InuYasha's front door step within twenty minutes from when she had called. Right before she was about to knock InuYasha appeared at the window to the left of the door and started waving his hands and shouting incoherent words through the window.

 

Kagome stared at him blankly. She then shrugged, pointed to her ear, and mouthed `I can't hear you'.

 

Then a man with red eyes and wavy hair answered the door. “Hello can I help you?” InuYasha smacked himself on the forehead.

For the past twenty or so minutes InuYasha had sat at his seat and moved his broccoli around the plate with his fork. When a very familiar scent graced his nose and he perked up. Kagome.

 

He ran to the door relieved that he had made it just before she was about to knock. She needed to go. She needed to save herself.

 

“Kagome get out of here!” InuYasha shouted through the door. “You need to go home Kagome!”

 

He started to move his hands in a shooing motion. “Go, hurry Kagome! Before he gets to the door!”

 

Kagome gave him a blank stare. Oh no, she can't hear me.

 

InuYasha tapped the glass with his finger and pointed to her house. “Go home!” She still wasn't getting it. Damn humans' poor hearing!

 

It was too late. Naraku had already answered the door. InuYasha smacked his forehead with frustration. Damn! Damn! Damn! Damn! Why didn't she run when she had the chance?!

“Uh… May I speak with InuYasha?” Kagome asked quietly looking up at the man before her.

 

InuYasha pushed past him. “Kagome, what the hell are you doing here?” InuYasha whispered.

 

“I wanted to talk to you.” Kagome said defensively.

 

“Well then why don't you come and sit down?” Naraku smiled as he gestured towards the living room.

 

InuYasha grabbed Kagome's shoulders and lightly shook her. “Kagome you have to go home.”

 

“Why?” She asked softly.

 

InuYasha softened until he was pulled into the house, bringing Kagome with him, by the collar of his haori and the door was shut.

 

“Now why don't you kids sit down and chat?” Naraku said with a grin.

 

“Well… My mom said that Shippo could stay with us.” Kagome declared on the couch next to InuYasha.

 

InuYasha's eye started to twitch. “That was all you wanted to tell me?”

 

Kagome was starting to get nervous under his twitching gaze. “Heh. Yeah. I… Uh… Called you, remember. But you hung up.”

 

Naraku smirked. “InuYasha, why would you hang up on your lovely friend Kagome?”

 

InuYasha stood up and pointed at Naraku. “I didn't hang up on you! That bastard did!”

 

Naraku's smirk faded to a glower. “InuYasha go to your room.”

 

“Fine. Come on Kagome.” He said taking Kagome's hand and heading up the stairs.

 

“Leave your friend down here, InuYasha.” Naraku snarled.

 

InuYasha was getting really upset. “No, I'm not leaving Kagome down here with you!” And with that he dragged Kagome up the rest of the stairs and slammed the door to his room behind them.

InuYasha sat on his bed and rested his head on his hands. “Kagome, I'm sorry. You didn't need to get dragged into this.”

 

Kagome put her hand on his shoulder in an attempt to comfort him. “It wasn't your fault. Your babysitter hung up on me… And I was stupid enough to come here. I'm sorry for that, InuYasha.”

 

InuYasha put his hand over Kagome's. “Well I was dumb enough to not be able to realize I just needed to open the door so you could hear me.” He added with a small chuckle.

 

Then InuYasha stood up and looked out his window. “I'm going to get you home Kagome.”

 

Kagome also stood up. “What? How are you going to do that?”

 

He turned around and smiled back at her. “On my back, of course.”

 

“On your back?” Kagome asked as her eyes got wide.

 

“It's the least I can do to get you out of here. We can get out through the window.” InuYasha said gesturing to the window.

 

“Are you sure?” Kagome asked doubtful.

 

“Yeah. Get on.” He said kneeling down in front of her.

 

Kagome bit her bottom lip and then got on. InuYasha lifted the window wide enough so they could get through.

 

“Alright. Kagome, hold on tight.” With that InuYasha leaped out the window and into the night. He jumped from one rooftop to another to get to his destination. Kagome was closing her eyes as tightly as she could and was almost strangling InuYasha from behind.

 

“Kagome, loosen up your grip a bit, would ya?” InuYasha choked out.

 

When she realized how tight her grip was around InuYasha's neck she loosened it. “Sorry.” She squeaked as she looked down and realized how high up they were.

 

InuYasha chuckled when he felt how tense Kagome actually was. “Calm down, I'm not gonna let you fall.”

 

Kagome gulped and nodded her head. Soon they were at her house. Kagome had to knock on the door because she didn't have a house key. Her very worried mother answered it.

 

“Oh Kagome, I'm so glad you're alright. You told me you'd be home in a few minutes.” She said hugging her daughter. “Thank you for bringing her home InuYasha.”

 

InuYasha whispered something in Kagome's ear; she nodded and turned to her mother again. “Mom, could InuYasha spend the night? He has a really mean babysitter.”

 

Her mother blinked. “Yes, honey but should I call-“

 

“NO!” InuYasha and Kagome shouted in unison. Kagome cleared her throat. “Uh… It would be best if you didn't call anyone, Mom.”

 

InuYasha and Kagome stepped inside; suddenly Shippo flew down the stairs and threw himself into Kagome's arms which almost knocked her over.

 

Kagome hugged the tiny ball of fur in her arms. “Hi Shippo.”

 

InuYasha crossed his arms. “Feh. So the runt is living with you now.”

 

Shippo got right in InuYasha's face, narrowing his eyes and pouting. “InuYasha… You big meanie!” InuYasha returned the eye-narrowing. “Well… You stupid.” He said with a smile of satisfaction.

 

Kagome threw him that life threatening glare again. “InuYasha.”

 

“HeHe. I mean… Uh… Your tail's really soft.” He recovered feeling Shippo's tail.

 

Kagome smiled at him sweetly. “Now that's better.”

A/N: I love Kagome. I think it's amazing that she can do all she does. I just plain love her personality. And you've gotta love InuYasha's puppy ears! Anyways I had to get Naraku in there somewhere, right? LOL! Yup! I think Fluffy and Kagura would make a cute couple. Hope all of you have enjoyed this chapter! So, phew, done with chapter six and set sail to seven! (Sorry. That was weird)
