Chapter 7:The Villain Gets Busted!
Kagome laid on her bed and stared at the ceiling. At least a lot of good things happened today. We got to school early, I got an A on my spelling test, Shippo is allowed to stay with me now… But, yet again some bad things happened. InuYasha's babysitter was kinda creepy. He was also mean to InuYasha. Kagome pouted. And I definitely don't like anyone that's mean to my friends… Especially InuYasha. He was always treated badly before I knew him… Or so he's told me.
Kagome's thoughts were interrupted when the form of InuYasha's head popped up over the side of her bed, hovering over her. He was blinking out of confusion from the look on Kagome's face.
And unbeknownst to her, Kagome was still pouting but now looked into InuYasha's face with the same look in her eyes as the one he had across his features. InuYasha thought that the pouty face and the confused eyes put together were… Sort of… Cute?
There was a long pause. Shippo watched them stare at each other in that… Awkward position, with amusement in his eyes. It didn't take long for that amusement to be accompanied by its best friend, mischief.
Shippo put on his cutest, most innocent, and naïve face. “Kagome, what you doing? Inu like you?”
InuYasha quickly found his way to the other side of the room with his arms crossed in his sleeves and a bright red blush spread across his face. “Keh. You stupid runt.” InuYasha mumbled knowing that Shippo heard it thanks to his demonic hearing.
Kagome wasn't speared from the furious blush she was trying so hard to fight back, but failed miserably. What was that? Gulp. D-Did what happened actually… Gulp. Happen? This thought was accompanied by the realization that her heart was pounding in her chest.
Calm down, Kagome. He's just your friend. Your EIGHT year-old friend. You are EIGHT. Nothing happened. A small calm voice told her in the back of her mind.
After Kagome had calmed down, considerably well, she turned to Shippo who had been smirking at her for the past few minutes. When he saw her head towards him he reverted back to his cute/innocent/naïve face.
“Well?” He asked softly with a babyish tone, with his big green eyes staring at her curiously.
Kagome sighed. Shippo was only two. He was so innocent. But… Nothing happened… Right? RIGHT?! “Shippo,” She laughed a bit nervously. “Nothing happened, okay.”
Shippo pouted not getting the answer he wanted. “No! Do Inu like you?”
“Stop calling me Inu you little twerp!” InuYasha yelled from the other side of the room.
“Well,” Kagome twiddled her fingers in her lap. “I guess you'd have to ask InuYasha that.”
Shippo looked over at InuYasha curiously. “Inu you like Kagome?”
Veins started to pop out of InuYasha's head. “I told you to stop calling me Inu!” Shippo pouted again. Then he realized InuYasha was very stupid and he'd have to repeat his question only VERY slowly. “Inu… You… Like… Kagome?”
InuYasha had had enough. He absolutely HATED it when people called him Inu. He walked over to the night stand Shippo was standing on and whacked him on the head causing a huge bump to appear there.
Kagome decided to let this one slide by pretending nothing happened. Shippo didn't deserve to be struck on the head all the time. Only… Sometimes, it was necessary. He did need to learn how to behave properly. Although a little bit of that wouldn't hurt InuYasha either. Or maybe it would.
“Alright you guys,” Kagome yawned. “It's time to go to bed. I'm sleepy.”
“Kay, Kagome.” Shippo said cheerfully as he climbed into his tiny doll bed and quickly fell asleep.
Kagome snuggled into her own bed and almost fell asleep when she remembered something. She had never given InuYasha a place to sleep. She sat up in bed and looked right into those gold eyes of his.
He was sitting with his back pressed up against the wall directly across from her bed and was glaring at her. “What?”
She cocked her head slightly, which InuYasha also found cute. Damnit! I hate everything cute! Maybe that's why I hate Shippo so much. Well I don't actually hate the runt but… I just don't like him all that much. I'm a demon, well half demon, but demons hate everything that's cute! But… I don't hate Kagome… Oh, damn it all!
“InuYasha, you don't have a place to sleep… Should I-“
“I've got a place to sleep. Right here.”
“But… I mean, are you comfortable there? You shouldn't really sleep sitting up.”
“Feh. I do it all the time.”
“I'd be happy to get some extra sheets and a pillow for you to sleep on.”
Why the hell is she being so nice? Why is she ALWAYS so nice? Except when she's mad. She's scary when she's mad. “I'm fine.”
Kagome looked down with disappointment that she couldn't make her guest, much less her friend, comfortable. “Are you sure?” She asked looking into his eyes again.
That sent a shiver up his spine, which he hoped was a good one, and then shook his head of the thought. “Yeah. I'm positive.”
“Alright.” She said snuggling into her pink bed again. “Goodnight, InuYasha.” With that she drifted into a peaceful, deep sleep.
After he was sure she was asleep, he made his way to the side of her bed. He thought she looked kinda… Pretty. She was very peaceful as she slept. This was the first time he had seen her asleep or at least, this at peace. She was always happy during the day. You know, when she wasn't all pissed and stuff.

Kagome was the first to rise as the first bright lights of morning leaked in through her window. She slowly opened her eyes but didn't fully sit up until a few minutes. She spent those few minutes enjoying the slow, calm breaths that filled and emptied her lungs. That always made her feel so relaxed.
When she did sit up she was expecting to meet the golden gaze of her hanyou friend but she didn't see him. That's when her eyes drifted slowly downward to see him, sleeping all curled up like a little puppy, at the foot of her bed.
Kagome giggled. He was so cute like that. She wished he would do it more often. And smile more too. He really did have a great smile, but he was always so grumpy. Though he has smiled a lot. Like she always said `A smile a day keeps the grumpies at bay'. Kagome giggled again.
At this, InuYasha's ears twitched picking it up like a radar. He opened one eye and looked at her. She had that big smiley face that she always had on. “What's so funny, Kagome?” He asked sitting up and raising an eyebrow.
Kagome's smile got bigger. “Oh nothing. Hey, you hungry?” She asked sweetly. “Because I sure am.” She added rubbing her tummy. “Yeah. I guess I'm kinda hungry.” His gaze shifted to the little bed containing tiny Shippo sleeping peacefully. “What about him?” InuYasha questioned gesturing to the little kitsune.
Kagome looked over at him. He looked really cute too. Only… In some sort of different way as InuYasha. If that were possible. Because cute was cute, right? “Let's let him sleep. Babies like him need all the sleep they can get.”
Shippo shot up hearing this. “Me NO baby! Me TWO!” He yelled holding up two fingers just as before. Kagome laughed. “Well you're definitely up now. And I'm sorry Shippo, you're not a baby. You're a big boy!” As she spoke the last part her smile brightened. Shippo nodded. “Yes, me big boy.” He said in satisfactory.
“He's a big cry baby if you ask me.” InuYasha stated throwing an arrogant smirk at Shippo.
“Me too big boy!” Shippo yelled InuYasha's face. Before InuYasha could smack him Kagome put a hand on his shoulder to calm him and get his attention. When he looked into her chocolate brown eyes, she started to talk. “He is a big boy InuYasha.” Kagome corrected also telling him that hitting Shippo again wouldn't be a bright idea with the slight squeeze to his shoulder.

The way back to InuYasha's house was filled with conversation. Mostly consisting of the horrible things Naraku did to him. Kagome had agreed to go with him to back him up after he had shyly asked her. Though she was planning on going with him anyway, it was sort of nice to know that he actually asked her help for some odd reason.
It was going to be a toughie. First of all, getting his stupid older brother to believe them. He was hoping having a witness to these “crimes” would help. Things didn't look so good when Sesshomaru answered the door. The first thing he did was glare down at InuYasha. “Get in.” He commanded pointing into the house.
InuYasha took Kagome's hand and was about to bring her in when Sesshomaru stopped him. “Leave your friend outside.” He said sending InuYasha another glare. He then turned to Kagome. “Could you wait out here for a moment?” He asked politely and calm. Kagome nodded and sat on the steps of the front porch to await the time she was needed.
It didn't sound all too good on InuYasha's end. Kagome could here harsh words being spat back and forth in an attempt to get the other to listen. Perhaps if they actually sat down and had a calm talk about it they might get somewhere. Kagome desperately wanted to help but she had to wait until she was let in.
Maybe fifteen minutes or so later Kagome was let in by Sesshomaru. Once in the living room she took a seat next to InuYasha. “So Miss Higurashi, I see you have witnessed the happenings of last night?”
“Yes, sir.” Kagome answered with a nod.
“Would you care to tell me about it?” Sesshomaru asked surveying the small girl sitting next to his younger brother.
“Yes. The man was sort of creepy. He just didn't seem right.”
Sesshomaru nodded almost as if in thought. “I understand you have the powers of a miko. You are training, correct?”
“Yes.” She said with another nod.
The girl was smart; she did not talk without being told to. He found it slightly amusing that his loud-mouthed brother could have befriended a girl such as her.
“You may continue.” He said slightly waving his hand in a proceeding motion.
“He was insisting that we come inside to `chat'. I found that rather odd also.” She wanted to use her best vocabulary around this man. Not only was he an elder or InuYasha's older brother, she could tell that he was a very sophisticated person.
“I see, that is strange.” He said more to himself with a hand to his chin in thought.
“The reason I originally came is because I called InuYasha and he answered and talked to me and then the phone hung up. I thought it might have been a dropped call or something. So I came over to talk to him in person instead.” She paused trying to remember what else happened. “The babysitter blamed InuYasha for the hung up call but I believe in InuYasha's claims that the babysitter did it because I know he wouldn't hang up on me on purpose.”
“So you don't know for sure?” Sesshomaru asked raising his eyebrow.
There was another pause as Kagome tried to remember exactly what happened. “Actually… I remember that before the phone hung up I heard InuYasha yell `Hey!' and then it was cut off.”
Sesshomaru nodded. “Anything else?”
“Well… Only to provide to the `creepy' subject. After he sent InuYasha to his room he demanded that I stay downstairs and not go with him. InuYasha was bringing me upstairs with him at the time though.” Kagome shivered. “I'm glad he brought me with him too.” She said smiling at InuYasha who had been quiet this whole time.
Kagome's smile faded to concern when InuYasha didn't do anything in response. “Are you okay InuYasha?” She asked studying his face. “Yeah.” He answered quietly.
Sesshomaru was also amused at the fact that a human girl would be so concerned about his half bred brother. He supposed that was good reason to why they were friends. “Is that all?”
Kagome nodded. That was all she knew. All she could tell him. All she had witnessed, at least.
“There are many good reasons as to why this Naraku isn't suited to babysit my brother. But, I'm in lo-“ He cut himself off when he realized that two young children wouldn't understand exactly what he would be saying, so he brought it down a bit. “I like his older sister very much. That could become a problem if I fired him.”
Kagome, being the girl, decided to give some advice. “I think you should let her down easily about it. Perhaps not say `Your brother has been torturing mine so I fired his stupid butt' but instead maybe say it had something to do with certain medicines InuYasha is taking, not that he's taking any.” She quickly recovered after InuYasha's side-glare.
“Perhaps you could say that you've found a better babysitter that is more familiar or experienced with the medicines.” She finished. The two brothers had sat quietly listening to her the whole time; she was surprised to say the least.
“Alright Miss Kagome, thank you for your time.” Sesshomaru said as he got up from the couch and went into his office.
Kagome looked to InuYasha. “So… What do we do now?”
He shrugged. “Dunno, we could see if Miroku and Sango are busy.”
Kagome smiled warmly at him. “So you want to play with Miroku and Sango, huh?” She was glad that he liked his new friends. Well… Not really `new' but… Relatively.
InuYasha shrugged again. “Guess so. It would also be the first time we played with the little twerp.” He answered with a small sigh and a roll of his eyes.
She stood up from the couch. “That sounds like a great idea.” Kagome corresponded taking InuYasha's hand and gently pulling him up with her. “Wanna go back to my house?” She asked when her eyes suddenly flashed to Sesshomaru's office. “Shouldn't we tell your brother?”
Kagome was still holding his hand so he was a little disappointed that he couldn't cross his arms. “Didn't I already tell you? He doesn't give a damn where I am.”
Kagome frowned at him. “He looked like he was pretty worried when we got here… Didn't he?”
“Feh. He was just pissed I ran away from the freakin' babysitter.”
Her frown deepened. “No, that's not it. When he first answered the door and noticed it was you, I saw a worried look in his eyes. You know, he must have had no idea where you were last night.”
“Keh. I don't care.” InuYasha replied coldly.
Kagome sighed and looked at him with a disappointed look on her face. “Fine. If you won't tell him then I will.”
“Geez. Making his brother worry about him like that. If he's anything like my mom…” She mumbled as she headed towards Sesshomaru's office. InuYasha just watched her go. This should be good. He thought as he took his seat at the couch.
When she peered through the glass door, she saw that had just put down the phone. She softly knocked on the door and stuck her small head through the door. “Um… Excuse me… Mr. Sesshomaru.” She quietly asked as he turned around to acknowledge the girl.
She gave him a warm smile. “It's alright if InuYasha and I go back to my house, right?”
He raised his eyebrows at her. “Yes, thank you for telling me.”
With that Kagome smiled again. “No problem.” Then went outside the office and closed the door behind her.
What an odd girl. Sesshomaru thought as he watched her walk back into the living room, to his brother. Kagome, my little brother's girlfriend. He chuckled at the thought of his brother having a girlfriend. He still had a smirk plastered on his face as he watched Kagome drag InuYasha out of the house by the hand. Sesshomaru shook his head and looked up at the ceiling. A hanyou, a miko, both eight years-old… Wonder how far this is going to go.
