Chapter 16:Thunder Gods My Ass!

Kagome looked up at the person who had their arms around her. She sighed. Well… At least he's back to normal now. InuYasha's demonic features were present once again. His ears, fangs, claws, everything. It was morning after all. The night of the new moon was over.

 

He's been getting awfully huggy lately. Kagome thought with another sigh. She had tried to get free before but InuYasha had a pretty good grip on her. And unfortunately for her, InuYasha was a heavy sleeper.

 

All she could really do was wait. It would be rude to wake him up. Seriously though, what am I? His stuffed animal or something? InuYasha snuggled into her more and put his nose in her hair. This was kind of nice… Yet uncomfortable at the same time.

 

Things had been getting strange lately. Kagome had a weird new feeling whenever she was around InuYasha. It was kind of scary. She had no idea as to what it was either. Maybe she was sick.

 

InuYasha let go of her and rolled over on his other side so his back was facing her. Kagome sighed in relief. She checked the clock on InuYasha's nightstand. Eight o'clock in the morning. How she managed to keep getting up so early, especially on weekends, she would never know.

 

She carefully got out of bed, trying her best not to wake the sleeping hanyou. When she was successful Kagome made her way downstairs. InuYasha's house was really nice. He had a big room, kitchen, and living room. All much larger than her own home.

 

When she made it to the kitchen she found InuYasha's brother sitting at the table, drinking coffee, and reading the newspaper. What was it with grown-ups and the paper anyway? And coffee… How could they like something that smelled so funky?

 

“Hello.” Kagome said quietly entering the kitchen.

 

Sesshomaru looked up from the paper. “Maybe I should go now… My mom might be worried.” She stated playing with her fingers. She always did that when she was nervous. She hoped her mom wasn't mad at her.

 

“It's alright. Your mother called a while ago so I told her you were here and fine. I'm positive she isn't worried.” He reassured with a small smile.

 

“Oh, thank you.”

 

“Where's my brother anyway?” Sesshomaru asked looking around. InuYasha would occasionally ambush him at the breakfast table. It would never work to his satisfaction because Sesshomaru always knew that he was coming. Although the first time he did it he had caught Sesshomaru off guard.

 

“He's still sleeping.” Kagome replied looking up at the ceiling.

 

Sesshomaru folded the paper and put it on the table. “God, he's so lazy.” He said quietly to himself. “Why don't you go wake him up?”

 

“Well… I… Wouldn't-“

 

“Go on. Just do it. If he yells at you, tell him I told you to do it.”

 

Kagome slowly nodded and headed back toward the stairs. When she was half way Sesshomaru spoke again.

 

“Oh and uh… Try to scare him if you can. It's fun.” He added with a chuckle. Kagome nodded again and headed up the stairs.

Kagome crawled to InuYasha's side of the bed; the side that he was facing and was trying to calm herself down so she didn't burst out laughing right there.

 

When she was calm enough she popped up over the side of the bed so she was right in InuYasha's face. “BOO!”

 

InuYasha's eyes snapped open. “AHHHH!” With that he flew over to the other side of the bed… And pretty much fell off.

 

THUD!

 

“Geez. What the hell was that for?” He grumbled rubbing his head. “Morning!” Kagome chirped smiling at him like an idiot.

 

“I repeat. What the hell was that for?”

 

Kagome put her hand to her chin. “Uh… Don't look at me… Your brother told me to do it.” She stated innocently.

 

“Sesshomaru…” InuYasha growled. “Well… At least you're awake now.” Kagome pointed out happily.

 

InuYasha sighed. “How can one person be so happy first thing in the morning?” InuYasha mumbled to himself.

 

Kagome giggled at his remark and held out a hand to help him up. InuYasha sighed and gladly took it.

 

“Why don't you just think of that as payback from when you scared me at the park?” Kagome suggested with a playful smirk.

 

InuYasha rolled his eyes. “It was an accident. I couldn't see, remember?”

 

“Yeah, well you scared me half to death. And I know you enjoyed scaring me even if it was only a little.” She stated now in the doorway.

 

InuYasha chuckled. “Okay, okay. So maybe I did enjoy it… A little bit… Then what?”

 

“Then… It really was payback.” Was her simple reply.

 

They kept bickering about payback all the way downstairs and into the kitchen; leaving Sesshomaru staring at them in bewilderment.

 

“Well then you'd better expect some payback from me later.” InuYasha said crossing his arms.

 

“Oh, really? When?” Kagome inquired raising an eyebrow.

 

InuYasha smiled evilly. “You'll never see it coming.” He stated in an eerie voice. Then he burst out in an evil laugh that made Kagome step back from its extreme weirdness.

 

Sesshomaru continued to stare as confused as ever now. But after a few minutes InuYasha's evil laugh got really annoying. Sesshomaru cleared his throat. “You can stop now InuYasha.”

 

InuYasha stopped laughing like a maniac to give Sesshomaru a glare. “You're the one that told Kagome to scare me.” He stated accusingly pointing a clawed finger at him.

 

Sesshomaru smirked, put his hands behind his head, and leaned back in his chair. “Well, think of it as payback from me. Do you remember the first time you ambushed me at this very table?” He asked gesturing to the table breakfast table.

 

InuYasha thought about it for a minute. “Oh, yeah. I remember that! That was fun!” He laughed.

 

“Listening to you scream up there was very amusing.” Sesshomaru countered.

 

InuYasha pouted and stuck his tongue out at his brother. Kagome giggled at InuYasha's antics.

 

“Hey, after breakfast do you want to go to the park?” Kagome asked happily.

 

“Sure.”

 

“Is it alright if I eat here Mr. Sesshomaru? I can always go back to my house to eat…”

 

Respecting her elders… Her mother has raised this girl well. And kind to others also. He thought as he smiled down at the little girl who was, probably unconsciously, holding his little brother's hand. InuYasha, currently gawking at their connected hands.

 

“It's alright. I'll call your mother and tell her you'll be eating here.”

 

Kagome bowed gratefully to him. “Thank you.” Then dragged InuYasha deeper into the kitchen discussing what they should have for breakfast.

Kagome stepped out of the Taisho residence and onto the front porch taking in a deep breath of fresh air. It was Tokyo but they lived in a tranquil little neighborhood; except for a few meanies here and there. The park was close by, everything was in walking range.

 

The store, school, the park, you could go pretty much anywhere you needed without a car. This was good since they were nowhere near the driving age limit anyway.

 

“We're going to the park now!” InuYasha called.

 

“Okay, Kagome's mother knows she'll be there!” Sesshomaru called back.

 

“Thanks again!” Kagome called into the house as InuYasha closed the door.

 

With that the duo left for the park. It was a very nice day. The sun was shining in the sky, that sky a baby blue with puffy white clouds hanging above.

 

When they got to the park they headed straight for the teeter-totter. It was always fun with two people. Or three if they third person stood in the middle and rocked the other two.

 

The park was pretty much empty, unless you counted the couples of teenagers walking together. Though, they hardly did count since they were only focused on each other. Grown-ups and teenagers were weird that way. What was the point of coming to a park in the first place if you weren't going to play?

 

In the middle of their teetering, InuYasha came to a halt and sniffed the air. And, though they were weak, Kagome's miko powers picked up three demonic auras.

 

“Who is it?” Kagome inquired looking around.

 

InuYasha sniffed again. “Well… It's the runt… And… The two others I don't recognize, but they're coming our way.”

 

“KAGOME!” Shippo cried as he came running down the street at a very fast speed and flung himself into her arms.

 

“What is it Shippo?” Kagome asked rocking the kit in her arms to calm him down. “T-They coming!” He shouted in fear of whatever was “coming”.

 

InuYasha and Kagome looked to see two youkai children running towards them from the same direction Shippo came. They looked somewhere around their age, if not their age.

 

Two youkai boys to be exact, though one looked a bit more feminine than the other. One was bigger than the other with a big long snout, yellow skin, an earring in each of his pointed ears, and had his black hair in a long braid at the back of his ugly head. While the other had blood-red eyes, had his black hair in a braid like the other, earrings in his pointed ears like the other, a long spear with a silver point in the shape of a… Thunder bolt, and wheels of fire on his feet.

 

“Look Hiten, we've finally caught up with the kitsune.” The larger one panted.

 

“Why didn't you just use your stupid cloud Manten? Then you wouldn't be so warn out. My wheels helped quite a lot.” The one called Hiten asked curiously, completely ignoring Manten's comment.

 

“I don't know. I guess I was just in such a hurry that I forgot to call it up.” Manten stated starting to breathe normally.

 

Hiten shook his head. “Hopeless.” Then he looked at InuYasha, Kagome, and Shippo currently gawking at them. “Hey, it looks like we've finally caught up with that kitsune.”

 

“I already said that!” Manten yelled indignantly, not all too happy that Hiten had ignored him.

 

InuYasha, Kagome, and Shippo all exchanged confused glancing then stared back at the scene before them. Hiten stared back at them a little confused and then smirked when he saw Kagome.

 

“Manten, look it's a wench.” He pointed out gesturing to a baffled Kagome.

 

Manten, finally done with his little hissy fit, looked to where Hiten was currently staring. “Ah, yes a wench.” He agreed nodding his huge head.

 

“What does wench mean?” Kagome whispered over to InuYasha.

 

“Uh… Young woman.” InuYasha whispered back.

 

“HEY! I'M NOT A WOMAN!” Kagome shouted angrily.

 

“KAGOME NO WOMAN!” Shippo repeated.

 

InuYasha smacked himself on the forehead. This was getting him nowhere. “Listen, who the hell are you?”

 

Hiten raised his spear and brought it down on the ground, creating a spark. “We are the Thunder Brothers.”

 

“And why were you chasing Shippo?” Kagome inquired tightening her grasp on the tiny youkai.

 

Manten laughed. “I think the kitsune can answer that question for you.”

 

InuYasha and Kagome looked to Shippo. “Th-Their parents… Killed my parents!” He wailed and started to cry.

 

“WHAT?!” InuYasha and Kagome yelled in anger as they looked back to the Thunder Brothers.

 

“He's right. Our parents exterminated his parents for the vermin they were.” Hiten stated.

 

Kagome's eyes narrowed. “So your parents are youkai exterminators?”

 

Manten shook his head. “No, you stupid girl. His parents were wild youkai. A disgrace to civilized youkai, such as us. We only came to finish the job since the little one got away.”

 

Kagome was starting to get infuriated. The anger that was radiating off of her was starting to make InuYasha nervous. “How could you?! He's still only a baby!” Kagome clapped her hand over Shippo's mouth before he had time to protest.

 

“Baby or not he's still a pest and must be eliminated.” Hiten said coolly.

 

“But he lives with me. He doesn't live in the wild anymore.” Kagome persuaded.

 

“Doesn't matter. Why? Do you plan on protecting him?” Manten asked humorlessly.

 

InuYasha stepped in front of Kagome and Shippo. “I think I've heard enough. Exterminate this, eliminate that. It's starting to annoy me.” InuYasha bared his fangs and long, sharp claws menacingly as he had done in his last fight with Koga.

 

Hiten and Manten laughed. “What are you going to do hanyou? Give us a back scratch?”

 

“No, more like rip you to shreds!” He shouted charging at them.

 

“I'll take the hanyou. You take the girl and the kitsune.” Hiten instructed as InuYasha drew closer by the second. Manten nodded and headed off towards Kagome and Shippo as Hiten fended off InuYasha with his spear.

 

“KAGOME!” InuYasha screamed as he dodged a lightning attack from Hiten's spear.

 

“I'll protect Kagome!” Shippo stated proudly as he jumped out of her arms, landing on the ground in front of her. Manten was charging at them and Shippo had to think fast. Ah-ha! Shippo thought as an idea formed in his little head.

 

“FOX FIRE!” Shippo yelled throwing his small blue flame at the charging youkai child.

 

“OW! OW! OW!” Manten shrieked jumping from foot to foot in pain as he waved his burnt hand in the air. He whimpered and stuck his hand in his mouth, sucking on it. When he finally took his hand out of his mouth he screamed in anger. “HOW DARE YOU?! TAKE THIS!”

 

Manten opened his mouth wide and a ball of thunder started to form there. Uh-oh. We're in trouble. Kagome thought as she scooped Shippo up in her arms and waited for the right moment to evade the attack. He fired, but Kagome was ready. She avoided the attack and it just barely missed their precious teeter-totter.

 

InuYasha dodged yet another thunder attack from Hiten's spear then came at him with his claws. “IRON REAVER SOUL STEALER!” Unfortunately Hiten blocked the attack with the spear and knocked InuYasha onto the ground.

 

InuYasha looked behind him to see Kagome and Shippo almost get hit by another thunder attack from Manten's mouth. InuYasha tried to go over and help but his way was blocked by Hiten.

 

“Leaving so soon hanyou? But we've just started having fun.” He said with a smirk.

 

InuYasha growled. He'd have to hope that Kagome could keep dodging and that Shippo would protect her like he said.

 

Kagome was starting to get tired. She was basically running around blindly and hoping that they didn't get hit. InuYasha.

 

Shippo got another idea and he reached inside his little pocket. He brought out a tiny top. Me only tried this once. Me hope this works. Shippo thought as he threw the little top, which landed perfectly on top of Manten's head. “SPINNING TOP!” Suddenly the small top got huge and spun atop Manten's big head.

 

Naturally, Manten fell from the weight of the large top. This gave them enough time to get to a ride. But not just any ride… It was the Merry-Go-Round, he'd never catch them on there. And luckily for Shippo and Kagome, Manten wasn't very bright.

 

Kagome set Shippo down on one of the bars. “Hold on Shippo, this is going to go fast.” With that Kagome held onto one of the bags, swung her leg over the edge and started to spin the Merry-Go-Round. It was now going so fast that Shippo was holding onto the bar for dear life.

 

Manten finally made his way over and tried to grab Kagome or Shippo but every time he failed. It was going way too fast for him.

 

InuYasha dodged the spear again. Damnit! If only I had a sword. Like the one in the picture I drew for Kagome. I only have my claws. I could use “Blades of Blood” but I'd have to hurt myself or get Hiten with my claws. And that's not happening anytime soon. InuYasha checked on Kagome and Shippo, he laughed at what he saw. This drew Hiten's attention to it also.

 

Kagome was spinning on the Merry-Go-Round with Shippo clutched to a bar like his lifeline. She had stuck her leg out and was kicking Manten in the face every time they went around. He was getting hit in the face at maybe thirty times per second; that Merry-Go-Round was going really fast.

 

InuYasha was laughing hysterically and was now joined by Hiten who was laughing his ass off at how stupid his brother actually looked at the moment. InuYasha stopped laughing and thought this was the perfect time to strike; while his enemy was distracted.

 

InuYasha grabbed Hiten's spear and bent it in half throwing it on the ground and snarling at him. A look of horror crossed Hiten's face as he looked up at the hanyou that could kill him at any moment.

 

Hiten shot up, grabbed his bent spear, screamed like a girl, and ran away forgetting about his wheels all together. Manten was smacked in the head again and turned to look at his fleeing brother, deciding he should follow. Manten turned around to flee but was kicked in the back of the head and dived face first into the playground floor. When he finally got up he ran for his life following behind his brother.

 

Kagome slowed the Merry-Go-Round to a halt and watched the all mighty Thunder Brothers run away, screaming like a couple of girls. She smiled in satisfaction to herself. Kagome turned to Shippo to see that he was completely green in the face. He looked like he was going to be really sick.

 

“Kagome, they gone?” Shippo asked a bit dizzily.

 

“Yeah, they're gone.” Kagome reassured as she picked Shippo up in her arms. He looked a little better now.

 

“Kagome!” InuYasha called as he ran towards them. “Did you see that? They were screaming like girls! Nice job with Manten by the way.”

 

“Well, nice job with Hiten.” Kagome complimented as she stroked Shippo's hair. He had fallen asleep. The little guy must have used up a lot of fox magic; or kitsune magic.

 

“We should probably get Shippo home and tucked in my bed.” Kagome suggested lifting him a bit in her arms for InuYasha to see.

 

“Wait, he sleeps in your bed now? I thought he slept in that doll bed.”

 

“Well, he sleeps in my bed when I'm not there. Plus, he's been sleeping in my bed with me for awhile now. He likes to cuddle a lot. I think he still misses his mom.” Kagome stated as Shippo snuggled into her more, almost like an example.

 

For a minute InuYasha felt jealous of Shippo. Jealous? He laughed at himself. What the hell could I possibly be jealous about?
