Last Summer-Prologue-Last Summer

A/N: Well, I just wanted to say that if you ever get a chance to download this song, Last Summer, you will understand this story much better. This song is a favorite of mine and…well, I don't think I would have ever bought Start Something without this song. This story kind of came from an idea I got while reading my favorite book, Dancing with an Alien. And so, I put two and two together and got an idea for a story. I'd be writing another story, and I'd finally get to add my favorite song to it. So, this story is, first off, dedicated to the Lost Prophets even though I know they can't hear/read this. Secondly, to my friend, Kelsey, who also shares a love for this song. She'd better be reading this! And third, to yet another one who I doubt is reading this, Jordan. In a sense… this story makes me think about you, which is weird beyond all reason. It doesn't make me thin about you in a romantic way or anything…well, I don't know. Anyway, on with the story!

And for the record, I don't own Inuyasha or Last Summer.

The Friday sun bears down again
As we drive without friends
And on these longest days we spend
All the time trying to pretend
That our stories could be true
Our chance to be cool
The setting sunset says the day is through
If only we knew...
And we all sit around here in our home town
Listen to the waves as they all crash down
And watch the fire as it slowly burns away
Glowing embers fly across the sky

Here by my side, in my summer, our last summer
The world passes by in my summer, our last summer
The light makes shadows fall, surrounded by each other
Alive to watch it all, the view from our last summer
The view from our last summer...
We trace the sun across the sky

And we laugh till we cry
Always so hard to say goodbye (good bye)
And we all sit round here in our home town
It's so good like this, these are times we'll miss
The memories, I hope they'll never fade
Glowing embers lie across the sky

Here by my side, in my summer, our last summer
The world passes by in my summer, our last summer
The light makes shadows fall, surrounded by each other
Alive to watch it all, the view through our last summer
The view from our last summer...

I would stop time to stay with you
I would stop time so we don't move
I would stop time
I would stop time
I would stop time to keep you

Here by my side, in my summer, our last summer
The world passes by in my summer, our last summer
The light makes shadows fall, surrounded by each other
Alive to watch it all, the view from our last summer

--Last Summer—Lost Prophets

Sango's long, chestnut hair danced gracefully in the wind as she sat on the hill where she shared the most incredible moments with the most incredible boy…last summer. The sun began to set in the west and a heavy sigh escaped her lips as she slumped down, resting her head on the knees she held in her arms. Memories filled her head with tears, joy, laughter and…love.

Yes, she knew it to be true now, she did love him. That summer… it was the greatest moment of her life. The boy who stole her heart. On the last day with him, he made her a promise…a promise to come back for her. To sweep her off her feet once again. A promise to take her away with him.

It's been exactly a year now. He still hasn't come for her.
`I'll come for you…right after graduation…I promise, I'll come back for you, Sango.”

The words were still there, replaying themselves in her mind. The feeling of his lips against her's, of his protective, strong arms around her, of his eyes staring deeply into her's were all still there. She couldn't ever forget him if she tried.

“But he's forgotten me.” Sango sighed heavily as the sun finally made it's way beyond the horizon. Sango stood from her perch in the grass and let the wind whisper into her ear, blowing her hair across her face on last time before walking to the house.

“Maybe I too, should just forget about last summer.” She said opening the door with a sigh.
