Last Summer-Chapter 1-Girl Next Door

“Man, this summer's going to be so boring.” Sango groaned on the couch with her little brother, Kohaku sitting by her side. Kohaku laughed.

“Maybe you're just too energetic, Sango.” He said poking her. Sango raised an eyebrow.

“What does being energetic have anything to do with being bored?” She asked in a smart tone.

Kohaku shrugged and turned away from her. “Well, it takes more to entertain you.” He said giggling. Sango groaned.

“Are you trying to insult me?” She asked confused by whatever Kohaku was trying to do.

“Maybe.” He gave her a smirk.

Sango laughed and shook her head in disbelief. “Nice going.”

They both sat there in silence. The TV was broken and there father had to take it to the next door neighbor's to get it repaired. That was what Mushin did for a living. Whenever he had a sober moment, he'd fix people's TVs for them. Her father always viewed him as an annoying and useless person. Sango had to get the “talk” when she was only six because of that man telling her virgin mind disgusting things. That was when her father knew Mushin was a terrible neighbor. However, he did have a few moments when he really could shine. Her father liked him best when he was less casual and less drunk.

Sango's father found it incredible that Mushin was going to baby sit this summer. Of course, it was a sixteen year old boy who was most definitely more mature than Mushin.

Sango, however, did appreciate Mushin. She would often walk his dog or change his oil for a bit of spare change. Unfortunately, she often got the feeling he might try to rape her or something. He had done it with his eyes plenty of times. Or, that's what Kagome said, at least. Kagome was Sango's best friend. They often spent the summers together and now were both about to go into their senior year together. However, Kagome and her boyfriend for three years, Inuyasha, went on summer vacation elsewhere. Hawaii, Kagome's favorite place on the globe. Her mother took her there every year for Spring Break, but going with a boy…alone…for a whole summer?! That's something Sango never expected out of either Kagome or her mother. Then again, it was Inuyasha she was going with.

“Do you think Mushin is done with out TV yet?” Kohaku groaned out of boredom.

“I don't know. Why don't you go check?” Sango asked in a daze.

Kohaku stood up from the couch and began his march to the door, slipping on his shoes before leaving.

“Wait!” Sango yelled. “I'll go with you.” She said worried for her brother's safety.

“You act just like my mother.” Kohaku said annoyed as Sango slipped on her shoes.

“Because you never had a mother.” Sango smiled and lead him out the door.

“He's not here.” Kohaku said blankly looking at the empty driveway. “Where would he go?” He asked scrunching up his face to try and show confusion.

Sango tried to retain her laughter. “Maybe he went grocery shopping.”

“But he's not supposed to be driving.” Kohaku added.

“What? Are you worried about him?” Sango asked smiling.

“NO! I just want out TV back.” Kohaku retorted. Mushin pulled into his driveway just as Kohaku said that. Sango noticed, however, another person in the car. Was he bringing home another girl tonight? No…she doesn't have boobs.

Sango was curious who this second person in the car was.

“Hey kids!” Mushin said getting out of the car. The passenger got out as well and Sango felt her heart skip a beat. It was a boy about her age with dark brown hair and dark blue eyes. His hair was apparently long, or for a boy's hair, anyway. It looked to be about shoulder-length and tied back in a short ponytail.

Mushin cleared his throat. “Sango, Kohaku, this is my nephew, Miroku.”

`So he's that boy Mushin was supposed to watch this summer.'

Miroku took Sango's hand and kissed it lightly. “You're Sango, I presume?” He asked.

Sango yanked her hand away from him, blushing. “Ye…yeah…”

Miroku just smirked. “A beautiful young lady.” Sango was silent, but heard his comment.

“And, you're Kohaku?” Miroku asked.

Kohaku smiled and nodded. “I'm Sango's little brother.”

“Oh? How old are you two?” Miroku asked.

“Sango's sixteen and I'm eleven!” Kohaku said over enthused.

Sango laughed as well as Miroku and Mushin.

“So, what can I help you kids with today?” Mushin asked.

Sango and Kohaku looked at each other. “We wanted to check on our TV. Is it anywhere near fixed, yet?” Kohaku asked.

Mushin smiled. “Actually, I finished it just before I left to pick Miroku up from the airport. But it's too big for you guys to carry it, so I was going to wait until your father got home.”

“Well, I could carry it over there.” Sango offered.

Miroku shook his head. “Nonsense. Uncle Mushin, I'll take it over there for them. It's a hot day and it would be senseless to wait until their father got home. Chances are, he wouldn't want to carry it after work.”

Mushin nodded. “Alright. You can take it, Miroku.”

Miroku ran inside and came back out holding a TV half his size. “Lead the way.” He said, trying not to sound like the TV was heavy. However, the strain in his voice was as audible as his voice.

Sango smiled and led him to their house.
---------------

“There we go, all done.” Miroku said after hooking the cables and such up.

“Thank you, Miroku.” Sango said sweetly. Kohaku had run up to his room to play with his legos so, Miroku could connect the wires in peace. Now Sango and Miroku had a moment alone, unbeknownst to her, anyway.

“No problem.” Miroku said starting to leave.

“Wait!” Sango shouted causing Miroku to stop in his tracks. “Umm…you want to stay for lunch or something? We could…get to know each other better.” Sango said not really knowing why she was saying this.

Miroku gave her a sincere smile and agreed.

The infamous blush crept back into Sango's cheeks and she plopped down on the couch. `Why am I saying these things? I don't even know this guy! Ugh! I'm turning into Kagome, chasing after any guy who even seems the slightest bit interested. Oh great now I'm a slut?! Ugh…' Sango gave a loud and heavy sigh hoping she's quit arguing with herself.

“Something wrong?” Miroku asked after hearing her loud sigh.

“Huh?” Sango realized Miroku had heard her loud sigh. “Oh, oh nothing… nothing's wrong.” `Great, now he thinks I'm a freak.'

Miroku walked over to her and sat down on the couch by her.

“So…” Sango started.

“Do you have a boyfriend?” Miroku asked her. Sango's eyes widened.

“I'm sorry?” She said. `Is he trying to start something?' She asked herself.

“I asked you if you had a boyfriend.” Miroku said waiting for her reply.

Sango shook her head slightly in disbelief. `Who does this guy think he is? So now he can just waltz right into my house and start asking if I want to be his girlfriend or not? What a creep!'

“You don't?” Miroku asked excited.

Sango gasped after being snapped out of her reverie. “No, I mean…yes…I do have a boyfriend.” She said trying to recover from her previous mistake. `Alright, girl! That oughtta keep him off you!'

“Oh, well, that's cool. I'm not surprised at all.” Miroku said sheepishly looking at the ground.

“Not surprising? But you don't even know me!” Sango said.

Miroku grinned. “But your looks alone would win anyone's heart. I'm sure you have a personality to match.”

Sango gave a little sigh of disbelief. “So, now you have the right to presume I'm a certain way?!” Sango asked angrily.

“No, that's not what I was saying!” Miroku started, trying desperately to climb out of the hole he dug for himself. Sango relaxed a bit and leaned against the back of the couch. “What I meant was, that from our conversation so far, you seem very loyal to him. I know I tend to steal girls from their men, but you don't seem to be the least bit attracted to me. Which proves you are very strong to your feelings for him, because, I know how irresistible I can be.” He said, grinning as the last part escaped his lips.

Sango crossed her arms across her chest. “Well aren't you cocky?!” She asked.

Miroku laughed. “I try.”

Sango rolled her eyes. “So where are you from, Miroku?”

------------

The conversation had lasted about five more hours. Sango and Miroku learned a lot more about each other in that short period of time. Like all about Sango's friend, Miroku's dog, Hachi, The history of their families, favorite foods. They could definitely consider each other friends by now. The conversation hadn't ended until Sango's father came home. He and Miroku were introduced and Miroku left, kissing Sango's hand once again.

On his way back to his uncle, Mushin's house, Miroku thought about her. `It sucks to know she has a boyfriend already. Now that I know her,' Miroku laughed slightly at the thought, `I almost want her.' He continued his walk home. Upon entering, he found Mushin passed out on the couch. Miroku sighed and walked up the stair to the guest room to find his window faced Sango's house. He smiled looking out the window in to the empty room. Some one entered the room, however.

`Oh shit!' Miroku thought and ducked. `Watch it be her dad, or something.' He looked back up only slightly to see it was Sango in the room. She was dressed in a tee shirt and incredibly short shorts. Miroku looked at her legs and noticed how perfect they were. Long, skinny, healthy. Miroku sighed dreamily. Sango climbed into her bed and turned out the light. Miroku smiled and crawled into his bed as well.
