         Chapter 22: At last

         ^^^

Koga has been on the trail of Kagura, running around his tribe, Kagura is still not seen. "Damn it! Where is she!" Seething, Koga stops to think about his position. 'Where could she be? She must be flying to out fast me.' Looking up one last time, he squints from the setting sun. Shielding his eyes, he looks to the east.

          Nothing.

Growling in disappointment, he heads back to the den.

A wind picks up behind him and a familiar voice speaks from behind. "Looking for me Koga?"

Koga quickly turns to see Kagura using her fan to shield her face from view.

"Kagura! What are you doing here!? Retrieving the shards for yourself?" Snickering he crouches in a fight stance.

Closing her fan, Kagura smirks, eager for the confrontation. Raising her fan, she opens it and lets loose wind blades, slow enough that she can have Koga move from his place.

As she predicted, Koga jumps out of the way and doubles for the attack.

"NOW KANNA!" Turning her younger sister hides behind her, raising her mirror to suck in Koga's soul.

Koga tries to jump from the sisters plan, but in the air the only thing he can do is fall. Landing, he tries to keep his eyes closed, not daring to open them, for fear of seeing his reflection in the mirror.

'Nice try wolf pup.' Kagura uses her winds to lift the unsuspecting Koga from the ground.

From surprise, he looks to Kagura to glare, but is met by the sheen of the mirror.

Shining, the mirror begins to glow a pail silver, ripples form, and begin to draw in Koga's soul.

Not able to move, Koga's life is literally stolen in front of his very eyes. Numbing over, Koga is dropped before the rest of him is taken.

Not able to voice a sentence, he watches helplessly as Kagura uses her winds to slice his legs and retrieve both shards from his being.

The twin shards are carried to the wind user, stopping in front of her face so that she may examine them.

"Sister, do you want me to take the rest of his soul?" Kanna looks up at the shards. A rainbow of colors shine through them reflected from the sun.

Turning to her sister, "That wont be necessary Kanna," Turning to face the shards once more, "We have all that we need." She snatches them mid air and they are both off to the west, flying by feather.

"Kanna I want you to release that wolfs soul. We have no need for it." Kagura's eyes never left the jewels now in her palm.

Obliging to her sisters orders, the albino releases a blue soul from her mirror. The soul turning a few loops before sensing the body and rest of its soul, flying quickly to its keeper.

         With Kagome

Kagome walks quietly and slowly through the castle, feeling a pain in her heart from what her responsibilities have her do. 'I don't know what will happen to me or the jewel if it is completed. Will I be able to purify it completely? It being so tainted by hate from Naraku?'

Letting out a deep sigh, Kagome lifts her head and proceeds to her destination, Sesshoumaru's Study.

She knocks as quietly as she can, hoping beyond hope that he didn't hear her.

         "Enter Kagome."

Tensing a bit, Kagome takes a deep breath and pushes open the door.

Peaking in slightly, Sesshoumaru is seen reading a few papers on his desk.

Entering fully, Kagome presses invisible winkles on her jeans. "Uh- Sesshoumaru, you've been in your study all day."

Sesshoumaru looks up from his documents, studying her fidgeting. "I have been taking care of my duties." Looking at her closely, she seems tense, every time he tries making eye contact she turns away to look at a string on her sleeve. "Kagome, I know you are not here to ask me such things, do not ask what you did not come here to ask. Now, is there a reason for your visit?"

Letting out an exhausted laugh-sigh, she looks to the floor. "Not one to beat around the bush are you?" Looking up to stare at him, Kagome looks sad. "Sesshoumaru, I was thinking, and, I thought it would be in the best interest to fuse the jewel now. Sango and Miroku are already preparing there departure to Kaede's. I was hoping that you would accompany us when I fuse the... jewel." While she was speaking Sesshoumaru began walking to her, never looking away.

Raising his hand to gently wipe away a stray tear on her cheek, he asks, "Why do you cry? Is there a reason you feel sadden?"

Kagome is surprised at his sudden show of kindness. "Se-Sesshoumaru?"

"Remember this Kagome, whatever happens you are welcomed to stay here."

They continue to look into each others eyes, neither blinking, not wanting to break the bond building between them.

Kagome looks loving and saddened as she fiercely hugs Sesshoumaru, crying into his chest.

Sesshoumaru is surprised at her sudden action that his facade falls. Quickly recovering, he hesitantly returns the hug, not as deeply, but enough to calm the girl.

In between sniffles, Kagome manages to thank him. Looking up at him, Sesshoumaru can't help but see how innocent Kagome looks when her cheeks are puffy from crying.

Sesshoumaru leans his face closer to Kagome's. Both inching closer.

Kagome's eyes begin to gloss over, until she closes them slightly.

They were mere centimeters apart when,

         "KAGOME!"

(I know what you were thinking. ^_~)

The moment was lost, Kagome looks up at Sesshoumaru's annoyed face looking towards the door.

Blushing she pulls away from Sesshoumaru's embrace. "I'd better go see to Shippo."

Sesshoumaru lets her go, watching her as she leaves his study to find her kit.

'Damn.' He walks back to his work. 'Now how am I going to concentrate long enough to finish this...?' He shakes his head and turns to prepare for the jewels fusion.

"What wrong Shippo?" Kagome asks after Shippo jumps into her awaiting hands.

"Miroku and Sango said I had to go back to the village! But I don't want to go back! I want to stay with you and Rin!" He holds on tighter to Kagome's sweater when she tries to pry him off of her.

Finally managing, "Don't worry Shippo, you wont have to go anywhere right now. But if something happens to me, I want you to go back with them, alright?" Adjusting him to fit on one arm, Kagome wipes away Shippo's tears.

"Were are you going?" Smiling at his childish worry, Kagome sets him down.

"No need to worry yourself Shippo, come on, lets go find everyone."

Koga got up after a few minutes. His body ached in every possible place and in some that seemed a little disturbing. Shaking his head to clear his vision, his two companions are around him, glad to see he is alright.

"Koga! What happend? You didn't come back after a while and we saw you lying face down." Hokakku explained as Koga sits upright.

Koga keeps his head down, feeling defeated that his jewel shards were taken from him without much of a fight.

"Koga, did they take the shards?" Ginta looks down at his leaders legs to see two slits in his fur bindings. (The furry things on Koga's legs.)

Koga gets up without a word. Wobbling, he falls to his knees. Panting he tries again, but Hokakku and Ginta are there to help support both his sides.

To exhausted to argue, he allows his friends to lead him back.

A/N: Ok I thought this was a good place to stop. So what happened? Where is everyone? Must not wanted an update if noone reviewed. That's fine with me but that means a longer waiting time. If there's no reviews then I don't have to update until I feel like it. Oh well, that's what you get for not reviewing. I waited an extra week to show you all that. So if you want an update weekly REVIEW! Doesn't matter to me what type of review just something. Flames welcome. Ta-ta!
