Legends1: The King, The Prince, and that Cute Little Hanyou2004
"Inuyasha! This is by far the dumbest plan ever!" Sango scolded as she crouched behind the bush.
"Its brilliant." he stated, looking into the palace windows for any sign of the Princess.
"Ahh . . . " Sango began frantically tapping Inuyasha on the shoulder. "Yash. The Prince is here!"
"Lets move." Inuyasha led Sango into the courtyard and hid in a cherry tree.
"This isn't good Inuyasha!"
"Shut up Sango, they'll hear you."
"Your Majesty," a short balding man bowed to the King, "Highness," he bowed to Princess Kagome and Prince Souta, "May I present to you, Son of King Emmanuel the third, Prince of the Western Lands, and soul heir to the throne, Prince Kouga." the balding man bent as low to the ground as his old body would allow him as the Prince entered through the elaborate palace gate. Kagome rolled her eyes as he made his grand entrance. She had met him before, and seen him at least a dozen times, was the long precession really necessary.
The Prince was said to be the fairest prince of all time. Kagome found him replusive. He had long, midnight black, hair, with a bit of a receeding hairline, he was quite a bit taller than Kagome, but that came from being twenty years older. His decently toned body and decent face wasn't what made him repulsive however, it was the wall of arrogance that surrounded him. That is what made Kagome want to gag every time his face was near her.
Inuyasha watched in disgust from the tree. 'King Emmanuel the third' had killed his father and taken the lands from him. He then kicked Inuyasha out for being a half-breed; and exiled his mother for having him. Now the times were tough and King Emmanuel was dying, Prince Kouga had to find a wife. Even though he was a demon, they had to 'settle' for a human wife. Kouga did not seem to mind, but King Emmanuel was not taking kindly to such a 'disgraceful' turn of events.
"Prince Kouga, lovely to see you." the King walked down the front steps into the courtyard and shook hands with the Prince. "May I present my son Prince Souta," he beamed brightly as Souta shook hands with Prince Kouga, "and Kagome." he added as more of an afterthought, than an official greeting.
"I am most honored Princess," Prince Kouga kissed her hand, "You become more beautiful every time I see you." he gave a smile, which revealed all of his perfectly white, and straight, teeth.
Miroku stood behind the precession, trying not to laugh at the thoughts no doubt going through Kagome's head. She had even said earlier that morning, 'if he tries to kiss me again I'm going to throw up'. Kagome pulled her hand away and smiled as she tried to subtly wipe her hand on her skirt.
"What are we doing?" Sango whispered.
"Shh. I already told you, we are watching her mannerisms." Inuyasha peered around a tree branch and watched the Princess pretend to be thrilled. She was easy to read, any idiot could see that she was three seconds away from punching the Prince and walking back into the palace.
"Lord Elron, may we discuss marriage arrangements," Prince Kouga looked over Kagome greedily, "in private." he added, turning back to the King.
"Of course. You are dismissed." he said to the guards, and Kagome. "You may leave Son." Prince Souta bowed to his father and nodded to Kagome before entering the palace.
Kagome took this opportunity to sneak passed the castle guards; Miroku close in tow. Kagome walked out the gate, passed the illustrious gardens and into the busy city streets. She smiled and waved to people she passed, they didn't realize she was the Princess, no one ever saw her without a giant train and tons of makeup. Her first stop teased her mind as she thought about taking a sip of an ice cold Frappuccino from STARBUCKS. She walked the two blocks to the coffee shop, well aware that she was suppose to be at the Palace 'entertaining' Prince Kouga. She was also well aware that Miroku was following her, since that was half his job.
"Princess, you aren't suppose to drink coffee." a voice said from behind her.
"Shut up Miroku! And don't call me Princess in public." Kagome had stopped and turned to yell at Miroku. He smiled and caught up to the girl, placing a hand around her shoulder.
"Buy me one too?"
"Of course." the pair laughed as they entered the shop. Kagome loved the smell of coffee and she took many deep whiffs as she waited in the excruciatingly long line.
"Hey what can I do for you?" a chipper young girl from behind the counter asked.
"Hey could I have two large Mocha Fraps?"
"Of course Princess. I mean Kay." the girl giggled as she punched in the amount. "Five fifty seven please." Kagome paid the girl and waited for change.
"Thanks Krissy." Kagome smiled as the girl handed her the two Fraps.
"No problem. Bye Kay."
Princess Kagome and Miroku walked outside and sat on the bench in front of the shop. Kagome loved watching the people walk by, chatting to their walking partner, or people on their cell phones. Kagome knew someday these people would be under her command, and that thought scared her to death. She didn't want to rule all these nice, wonderful people, she wanted to give the position to her brother. But, she was first in line, what was meant to be, was meant to be.
"Kay, I'd like to keep my job, can we get back to the Palace please?" Miroku snapped Kagome out of her thoughts and she sighed heavily.
"Sure. Let me just throw away my cup. No evidence." she smiled and stood up walking to the trash receptacle conveniently located on the opposite side of the sidewalk. Kagome turned around quickly and ran into something hard. Hard, and warm. Like a person. "Oh dear heavens sorry." Kagome looked up to see startling amber eyes. "Are you okay?"
"Yes I am fine. Are you miss?" this mans voice was strong but filled with kindness.
"I am okay, yeah. I'm sorry I have to go. Sorry again. Bye." Miroku pulled Kagome away from the mystery boy and she turned her head back with a look of longing.
"Inuyasha! You just purposely ran into the Princess!" Sango scolded. She had been scolding him a lot lately.
"Shut up Sango! For the love of Pete! I know what I am doing. I wanted to see how she behaves to strangers. Geez. Come on, lets go see how she interacts with the Prince, all day." Inuyasha's devilish smile grew back again and he was off, following the Princess through the busy streets.
§¤*~ Meanwhile . . . Back at the Palace
"King Elron, majesty, I believe that Kagome will make a fine Queen, and mate." Prince Kouga stated, as he walked around the Kings throne room.
"I almost wish you were a girl and could marry my young Prince rather than my . . . than Kagome." he hated referring to her as anything more than scum.
"I think your Majesty, if it isn't too outright of me to say, that Kagome is a fine Princess and will bare healthy heir's." Kouga turned to face King Elron now as he spoke. "Your Majesty, I would like to have the wedding in August, four months from now. On the twenty fifth. If that is set with you."
"That sounds fine Kouga. I will have Sir Wallace Wing assist in any of the preparations, I would rather have no part in the matter. Of course, for your sake Kouga, I will be involved and I will support this in any way I can. Wouldn't want the leaders of the Western Lands to be angry would they?" the pair chuckled deeply.
"Yes, my father, King Emmanuel the third, can get very angry can't he. Proved that by killing that puny ruler we had before and banishing his half-breed son." Kouga laughed again at the thought. He had been almost twenty when this happened almost eighteen years ago.
No one thought much of it, because they were a Prince and a Princess, but the pair were nothing alike. Prince Kouga was nearly twenty years older then the Princess and he had the mentality of a perverted old man.
Kagome walked into the palace, the guards looked amazed at how she had slipped past them. 'They are so stupid'. Kagome thought as she smiled gracefully and walked into the grand hallway. "Father is in the throne room with Kouga. I'd advise you to steer clear." Prince Souta warned from the stairway.
"Shut up Souta. You think you're Mr. High and Mighty, go fuck yourself!" Kagome shouted back.
"I was just-" he started, but he knew it was no use. His sister hated him. "Never mind." he turned and ran back up the stairs.
"Kagome, must you be so rude to your brother." Miroku asked from behind. He was preparing to go on his lunch break and was to detach himself from Kagome now.
"Yes." she called back. She ran to the throne room and pulled open the door to see the King and Prince Kouga laughing at something. When they saw her their laughter died almost instantly and they stared.
"Can I help you Kagome?" the King asked.
"No, thank you King." she didn't often refer to him as Father. Especially not to his face.
"Kagome, how gorgeous you look, even more so than this morning. Please, come with me to lunch. We can go to town, it will be lovely." Kagome put on the biggest, fakest smile she could muster.
"Love to."
"But you can't go in those clothes. What would the citizens think? Go change now."
"I don't really care what they think." she stated.
"I order you to go change!" his voice boomed through the trophy room.
"You are not going to order me around, Prince Kouga " she added his name with an extra emphasis. A loud smack resonated through the spacious room followed by the whisper quiet panting from the Princess.
"I am sorry Kagome, but you cannot disobey your husband." Prince Kouga reprimanded. "Now, go change."
"Yes Sir." Kagome wanted to scream, and to throw a fit, but her father wouldn't care what she said. Instead, she took her bruised face and walked up to her bedroom. There she found a 'more suitable outfit' (which was the frock she wore to her Aunt's Funeral six months before) and sat on her bed. She hesitated going back to him.
"What if I just leave? I'll just climb out the window and find someplace else to live. No one would notice after a while. Father certainly wouldn't care. He would be thrilled that Prince Souta would be first in line." she spoke out loud to herself. She grabbed her stuffed wolf and walked over to the window, watching the gentle wind play in the trees. Hugging the wolf close to her she began talking to herself again. "Miroku would miss me. We pretty much keep each other sane in this hellhole. But no one else would. I have no friends, because I never see anyone. Kouga? Well, he would just have to find some other maiden to put his ego trip on. GRRRRR I hate that man! He isn't even worthy of being called a man! He's a monster. He's a wolf demon and doesn't deserve to live!" she shouted, throwing her stuffed toy onto her bed. It seemed to look at her, with a look of sympathy, as though apologizing that it too was a wolf.
She padded over to it and picked it up, apologizing into its fur. "It's not your fault Nannok. I'm sorry." she felt tears in her eyes. She just wanted to be with someone who would be nice to her, and who wouldn't want to marry her just to unite ties with foreign lands.
"Kagome" a soft whisper was heard on the other side of her door.
"Miroku?" she walked over to her door and opened it slightly.
"Kagome, the King is more pissed off then I have ever seen him. I'd either get your butt out here now, or run!"
"PRINCESS KAGOME HIGARASHI, HEIR TO THE THRONE! GET DOWN HERE NOW!" The King's deep voice boomed through the castle, almost shaking the chandelier in the hallway, feet from where Miroku stood.
"I think I'll run!" Kagome said hurriedly as she threw her Wolf onto her bed and turned to run out the window.
"Kagome, that is a bad idea! Your father will just be more angry later!" Miroku warned.
"MIROKU! IF YOU ARE HIDING MY DAUGHTER I WILL PERSONALLY SKIN YOUR HIDE AND FEED IT TO THE WOLVES. Sorry Kouga."
"No problem."
"Kagome I have to go, I'm going to get murdered."
"Run Miroku. I'll deal with the King." Kagome drew a ragged breath before walking out of her room. Miroku ran down the hall and ducked into a guest room, pretending to be cleaning.
"Yes your Majesty?" she said sweetly, nearing the top of the stairs.
"KAGOME!" he looked and noticed she had changed her clothing. "Oh, you changed. WELL WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG?" Now Kagome could see he was just looking for a reason to yell.
"I apologize Your Majesty."
"Apologize to your husband. He has to be back to the Western Lands at a reasonable hour you know." Kagome didn't want to apologize to that arrogant, overdressed, self absorbed little snot! But she bit her tongue.
"I'm sorry." her father gave her a look that said she had more to say. "Prince Kouga." another sharp look, "Dear." her father smiled and spoke up, in quite the calmer tone.
"Well, off you go, its nearly one. Go, go, go! You two have lots to do. Good Bye Prince Kouga, lovely seeing you. Tell your Father I will write him tonight."
"We do have a phone Sir." Prince Kouga noted.
"I hate phones, dreadful invention. Well, have a lovely time." he smiled and shooed the pair out of the house.
§¤~*~
"So Kouga, why is it someone of your age hasn't been married already." Kagome asked, chewing idly on a French Fry.
Kouga scoffed lightly at her referring to his age as though he were ninety. He may not be as young as Kagome, but he certainly wasn't old, at least not for a demon. "We've been waiting."
"For what?"
"For you to be of the proper age for me to have my way with you." he said with a greedy eye on her. Kagome fought back a look of disgust, and she was trying to keep her lunch from revealing itself a second time.
"Prince Kouga, may I remind you that I am only eighteen and though you may think that I am going to . . . do that on our wedding night, you have another thing coming because I would rather do anything in the world! Than sleep with you! And it's like five thousand degrees out here! I can't believe you made me wear this piece of shit!!!!" Kagome stood up angrily and started walking away.
"Princess!" he didn't want to cause a scene in the park, though she had already started one. He chased after her, not having to run very fast and grabbed onto her arm. "Princess, you will never speak to me in that tone, or in that way ever again! Do I make myself clear?" Kagome didn't say anything, she just tried to wiggle free. "Am I clear?" He tightened his grip and Kagome could feel her arm bruising.
"Crystal." her voice held wrath that even Kouga was afraid to see unleashed. He released her arm and she ran for home.
"That girl isn't going to be an easy one to live with." a devilish smile rose to his face, "I love her!" he ran after her once more, this time not really wanting to catch up, but loving the idea of the chase.
