InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Line of Differences ❯ Chanced Meeting ( Chapter 1 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Disclamer: I do not own any characters belonging to Rumiko Takahashi, namely Inuyasha & co. Other characters are created by me though.

Mistaken Identity

The school hall. Filled with milling students, hanging around lockers, talking, and laughing. But yet there is an invisible line, separating them into different groups: the rich and the popular, and the poor and the losers. These two will never mix, each considering themselves too different, a world apart. The rich look down on the poor, and the poor despise the rich for their extravagant spending. A little mermaid themed fairytale, starring Kouga and Sango.

A young girl, just 17 of age, was awakened by the gentle shake of the nurse.
"Sorry for being nosy, Sango-chan but shouldn't you be at work now? Don't worry, we'll be right here looking after your brother." the nurse smiled.

Sango nodded her head sleepily, "Arigato, Katori-san. I'll come over tomorrow, hopefully he'll be better," rubbing her heavy eyelids.

Casting a brief look of worry over to the sleeping form of her brother Kohaku and left the room. She knew she should be on her way to work at this time, but she figured if she hurried, she might still be on time. Kohaku. He was a quiet boy and carried an air of wisdom well past his age. He was very healthy, too. How such an accident could render him unconscious and in coma on a hospital bed was beyond her. If only she could been there, she would have prevented this from happening, prevented the car accident.

And it had been weeks since the accident. Sango already had trouble paying the hospital fees, but she would rather take on another job on top of her two others, than see Kohaku suffer.Anything for her brother.

Forcing a wave and a smile to the friendly nurse, she made way for home.

Walking down the long hospital hallway, Sango's smile turned bitter as she thought about her parents. They had died when she was just 12 when the ship they were in sank, and with the help of Aunt Kaede, she was able to prevent the welfare association from placing them into separate foster homes. She would be forever indebted to Aunt Kaede, for all her help, getting Sango up to high school, and paying for Kohaku's hospital fees. Now with her gone, she had to rely on herself to earn enough for the operation and her school fees. Wiping a lone tear creeping down her pale cheeks, she left the building, towards the long stretch of road leading to her workplace.

The light rain began to pick up.

----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------
Racing through the abandoned road, the wind combing through his long black hair was Kouga, star of the track team and one of the most sought-after bachelors of Saiki High School. The fast speed gave him a thrill, and a source of distraction from his frustrations.
“Chikusho! Why did Kagome run off with that mutt Inuyasha again! Can't she see that he's totally wrong for her? What does she see in him anyway?” he snarled.

Kouga had been after Kagome, much to the wrath of Inuyasha for almost 2 years, but she had yet to accept him. But she did not reject his advances either. Instead, her heart seemed to be leaning towards Inuyasha. The two could be considered friends, but barely. Neither would abandon each other in cases of need, but in the case of winning the affections of a certain girl, neither would give up.

Flashback

"Kagome-chan, whether you are in trouble or not, I will always be there for you. Won't you accept my proposal?"

"Kouga-kun...I -"

"What are you doing with her! Get away damn you!"

"Inuyasha! Kouga! Stop!"

Scene change

"Kagome...would you...would...youliketogooutwithme?"

"Inuyasha, I...Hai."

He growled. The wolf prince did NOT take kindly to humiliation. Especially not by a certain half-breed mutt.

The speed and the sudden onslaught of rain made it difficult for him to see the road in front of him. The slippery puddles on the gravel did not help either. Snapping out of his thoughts to see the sharp bend around the corner, he immediately stepped on the brakes, but the car spiraled out of control and the last thing he remembered was hitting a large tree, and then there was complete darkness.

She was drenched from head to toe but she continued walking, her head bowed, deep in thought. A sudden squeal of burning rubber made Sango snap out of her daze. Through the blurred vision from the heavy downpour and fog, she could make out an overturned wreak. Without hesitation she ran over and tried to salvage the situation. A groan emitted from the driver seat. Using all of her strength, she tried to pull the casualty out from the car. Blood was all over, and she knew if no help was going to arrive, he might not make it.

Desperately she clung onto the unconscious guy and willed him to stay alive. She did not own a cellphone, and neither did she find one on him. There was no pay phone around, and it was already late into the night. The only thing she could think of was to carry him all the way back to the hospital, and she could only hope he wasn't too heavy. It was fortunate that the rain helped to wash the blood away. So said, one arm around his waist and another on his arm, she gently but urgently made way to the hospital. Sango could feel his breath getting shallower, and she hoped that she would make it in time.

Finally after what seemed like hours, the dim lighted building loomed over them. Sango gave a shout for help and several paramedics rushed out with a stretcher. She let them take over from there, but she followed. She could finally see his face in the light. Tall, with longdark hair and a strong jaw, he would have cut a striking figure. Pity his eyes were closed. She was almost certain his eyes would be just as striking. He seemed like the type to be always carrying a smirk on his face, and an air of confidence, if not for his injury at the moment. She felt a twinge in her heart. His face contorted in pain, he looked almost like Kohaku when any complications arised.

Shaking her head, she cleared the thought from her mind. Making sure he was all right was more important. But there was nothing for her to do but wait, and she could have left. Then her employer might still keep her on the job. But they might need her to provide information. So she stayed.

Saving a life ismore rewardingthan building a ten-storey pagoda, she thought.

Sleepiness soon overtook the exhausted girl and she nodded off to sleep.

It was only after the creak of the door roused her from her sleep that she noticed the hour hand pointing towards 3 in the morning and the doctor stepping out from the operation room. Kikyo was a close friend of Kaede and now Sango's. The two had gotten close during the visits to Kohaku. She was also the head doctor here and the one in charge of Kohaku, and now, incidentally, Kouga. She smiled at her friend, signaling that all was fine. Sango breathed a sigh of relief- not that she actually cared for the stranger, but she did not want to see him die.

“Any later and it would have been too late. He was lucky that you happened to be there,” Kikyo added.

“Nothing would have happened if he hadn't decided to speed,” Sango retorted.

Shaking her head, Kikyo gave a soft laugh. She had gotten used to the girl's quick wits and even though she displayed a tough exterior Kikyo knew that she had a soft heart underneath.

"He's fine now, but we need to know his particulars. If you would like to visit him, perhaps you could come by tomorrow."

I should be getting to work. I'll come again tomorrow to drop by on Kohaku, Sango thought. Giving a nod and a wave good night to her friend, she turned and headed home, trying to keep awake for the rest of the journey to work despite her drooping eyelids. By Kami she hoped she would get through the night without falling asleep.

So what do you think of my first story? Should I continue? Let me know ok? Thanks so much!
I am just testing how this will go. Hope no one thinks I am copying anyone's work, this
is purely my idea.
