Chapter 2
The Kitai Cafe
The Kitai Cafe was a cozy hangout for most teens, open 24 hours a day. The owner, Muso allowed customers to create their own drink, but none alcoholic; he did not believe in introducing such vices in his cafe. The ambience was almost like that of Heaven, murals decorating the walls. A statue of an angel in the centre of the room, carved by Mushin himself. The angel's face contained a blend of peace and serenity, and one could only marvel at the work of the master. Regulars and newcomers alike agree that the angel seemed almost real, in that it practically glowed with power, filling the room with hope and happiness. However the cafe was usually made up of regular patrons, and the fact that it was situated in a quiet corner of town did not help.
The soft tingling of the door chime was lost in the cacophony of voices in the room as Sango trudged lethargically through the room. What she would not give to be back home on her bed, having a good nights sleep, but she could not possibly leave Mushin short-handed on a busy Friday. Forcing herself to stay awake, Sango walked over to where Mushin was, busy serving up another order. Feeling guilty as that was supposed to be her duty, she put on the waitress's apron and waited for him to finish serving the customer.
"And what do have to say in your defence, Sango?"
"Gomen Mushin-san. There was an accident and I had to send him to the hospital." Sango hoped he was not really angry at her, it would not do good to be fired on her first week here.
Mushin chuckled, "Things always seem to happen around you huh,"he nodded his head, expressing his understanding and gestured to the waiting line of people. "Now get back to work!" Sango sighed in relief, that was why she really liked working here, Mushin and all the other staff were really nice and understanding, especially of her situation. The cafe did not seem like much at first, but once she stepped into the room, the immediate greeting of fresh coffee and the breathtaking statue changed her mind. Everytime she walked past the angel, it never failed to give her a sense of hope, a motivation for her to strive on despite the many problems thrown in her face. However it did fail to shake her awake from the sheer fatigue that threatened to overtake her whole being. But she had to mask her tiredness, she did not want her colleagues to be worried about her.
Balancing two trays of orders to her designated table, Sango fought back a yawn. It would not do good to let customers witness anything other than smiles and enthusiasm. Looking at all the food did not help either, it made her stomach rumble, reminding her that it was almost a full eight hours since she last ate anything. Placing the food before each person, she could not help overhearing their conversation.
"So what do you think of this place huh?" "Yeah, it's cool. Kagome, you should try concocting your own beverage next time," "Yeah right Miroku, and create another disaster like yours. Nevertheless it's even better than I thought it would be, we should definitely come back again." "Keh, whatever,"
Sango smiled, glad that the cafe was getting good publicity; they deserved it. "Enjoy your meal," They barely gave her a glance except for the leer she received from one of the guys with black hair tied in to a small ponytail and she could see in their eyes the slight sneer at her worn jeans and sneakers. From the way they dressed, it was pretty obvious that they were from well-to-do families. As a young child she was often envious of the seemingly endless toys the other children had, while she only had her mother's rag doll. She used to fantasize that she herself was also given these privilages. However over the years, the envy turned to disgust as her thinking matured and she saw the way the rich flaunted their wealth excessively, how their noses always seemed upturned to the world, how they looked down on the poor and laughed at other's misfortunes.
"Hey Sango! Where have you been! I've been up to my neck serving all these people!" A pretty red haired girl fell in to step with her as they strode back to the counter. "And hi to you Ayame. I just played saviour to this guy who decided that speeding is the next big thing," she said, adding a hint of sarcarsm. "No really? Is he cute?" Sango laughed, "Um, I couldn't see his face very well..." She tried to hide her blush, she did see his face and he was probably the best looking guy she had ever seen. But how could she be attracted to a guy she had never talked to before, and she sure did not believe in love at first sight. The vision of his arched brows, his closed eyes, the lips that looked so soft flashed before her mind. What would he taste like, she thought, before shaking away the thought with horror. Just attraction, she hoped.
Ayame was one of the staff at the cafe, and the first friend she made. She did not have a good relationship with her family, and it was only recently that Sango found out Ayame actually came from an abusive family. So on her 16th birthday, she packed and left the house. Her father did not even bother to ask where she was going, it just meant one burden less. Sango eventually shared an apartment with her, helping Ayame with the rent.
"Yeah right. Anyway, did you see that group of people back there? The guys look so totally hot!" Ayame gushed. Sango sighed, much as Ayame was her best friend, she could be so boy-crazy at times. "Yeah, so? Their attitude was disgusting. Just because they're rich doesn't mean that they own the whole world," "I guess you're right. It's not like they'd ever mix with us anyway." she sighed.
Picking up another order, Sango found her mind wandering back to that boy from the accident. Much as she was attracted to him, there was no way he would like her. From the Lamborghini that he was driving, he was one of the higher end people too. She sighed, for some reason, the realisation was not making her feel better. Sango shook her head, she had better forget about that mysterious boy. A tap on her shoulder took her out of her thoughts, and she turned to see Ayame gesturing to the almost impatient man in front of her, still waiting for her to take his order. Apologising, she focused her mind on her work, determined to put the image of the boy out of her mind. She was here to work and earn enough to pay the rent and Kohaku's hospital bills, not to look for romance.

Well, that was Chapter 2: The Kitai Cafe.
I forgot to mention in the first chapter, Saiki means Wisdom. Very unoriginal I know, but I didn't like putting it as Shikon High School or something like that. Just sounds weird. ^^
And Kitai means Hope.
Sango despises the rich not because she is jealous, just that she cannot stand their self-absorbed ways. But she's going to find out that not all of them are like that ;D
By the way, for anyone who doesn't know what a Lamborghini is, it is a really cool fast car. Instead of the normal open out doors, it actually opens upwards! Cool huh. Just search in Google to see how it looks like.
Hope you liked it!
