Chapter 5

Surprising Revelations

"Now what should we do? No sign of Kouga anywhere, not even Ginta or Hakkaku has seen him for the past three days!" Kagome paced furiously on the gravel pavement, restraining for all she could from biting her fingernails off.

"Perhaps we should call the cops. This isn't like him to stay away for so long," the dark-haired youth spoke up, brows furrowed in worry.

"Keh, do you really think they would bother with us? They would probably think he'd just ran away, teen angst and all! And why do you seem so worried Kagome? Unless he's someone special to you," Inuyasha scoffed, folding his arms with a frown.

Kagome was nearly boiling over at the comment, not to mention the worry over Kouga's disapperance fueled her frustrations. "You jerk! Kouga is just a friend, NOT my LOVER! BAKA!" She spun on her heel and stalked away, leaving Miroku and Inuyasha standing on the sidewalk, momentarily stunned. "Inuyasha no baka!" Kagome muttered, wiping tears of anger and sadness. Couldn't he see that she felt nothing for Kouga other than friends? Then what really happened during their date? Their kiss? Couldn't he feel her feelings for him? Her true feelings.

"Ano...I guess we should continue looking for him then?" Miroku broke the silence, glancing almost nervously at his hot-headed friend. It was obvious Inuyasha liked Kagome, and vice versa, but Inuyasha had always been insecure about himself, plus the fact that Kagome had never really rejected Kouga's proposals and advances made him feel worse.

Inuyasha made a noise of frustration and turned in the opposite direction. Miroku sighed. Having two stubborn as hell friends could prove to be exasperating at times. Guess he would have to look for Kouga then.

Miroku kept his eyes on the pavement, trying to walk over cracks. A habit of his, to keep his mind occupied. So occupied was he, that he did not notice another figure walking in his direction until it was too late. He collided with something or someone, and was sent to the floor. Rubbing his sore forehead, he opened his eyes and saw parcels sprawled all over and a girl trying to pick them up as quickly as possible, as if she was in a rush. He picked up the last parcel and handed it to her. She glanced up, and he recognised her as the girl that had caught his attention back in the cafe. Miroku smiled, and as she reached for the package, their fingertips touched, a jolt of electricity passing through their whole being.

Ayame blushed, she was sure her face was red as a tomato. She never thought she would feel so nervous around someone, she was usually an extrovert. So what was causing her to act like a tiny shy mouse?

"I'm sorry for colliding into you miss, any injures?" his velvet voice was soothing, and Ayame could just picture him listening to her problems, giving advice now and then.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks. I'm Ayame, your name?" She took a deep breathe, this sounded more like her. "Name's Miroku, nice to meet you." "The pleasure's mine."

"So what's the hurry with all these parcels?" Miroku asked, trying to strike up a conversation, all the time inching slowly across Ayame's butt. "I have to deliver them to-" Her words were cut off as she felt a hand carassing her bottom.

The next following sounds were that of a resounding slap, ending with a red handprint on the perverted boy's cheek, and the angry flush on Ayame's face. "Do that again and I'll make sure you'll never be able to have any offspring," she said, before picking up her normal pace and continued, like nothing happened.

The constant 'Hello, someone's calling, pick up!' snatched Sango of her much deserved sleep. She had tried to discourage Ayame to get rid of the annoying ringtone and get a normal ringing one but to no avail. Sango threw back the covers and reached for the phone, muttering a tired greeting.

"Moshi moshi?"
"Is Sango Kataiji here?"
"Hai. I am, you are...?"
"I am Totosai Saiki, principal of Saiki High, and I am calling to inform you that in your guardian's will she has put aside a sum of money for you and your brother's schooling, all expenses taken care of. And I am proud to say that you are to be enrolled in my school for the elite. We are aware that your brother is currently unable to be in school, so his school year should start the month he regains consciousness. Please bring along your proof of identity and relevent documents, and report at the administration office this Friday, at 10 sharp. No delays!"

An abrupt click, and the phone was silent. Sango was stunned. Then the realisation seeped in. She was able to go on to school? Kohaku too? But what about her jobs? She would have to quit her day job at the cosmetic store. She hoped she would manage with the pay she got from the cafe. Nevertheless, a slow smile spread across the girl's features, as she thought about her aunt Kaede. "Thank you, I'll never be able to repay your kindness to us," she whispered.

A sudden shriek and she jumped up in joy, her dreams were coming true, and Sango laughed. The jingle of keys could be heard, though in Sango's jubilation she was unaware. Ayame stared in mild shock. Sango, the normally serious, slightly gloomy girl was jumping around? Sango's eyes sparkled, and in barely concealed excitement she related her story to the confused girl.

Ayame hugged her friend, she was so happy for her. Just so coincidentally she was enrolled in the same school. And she herself had another piece of happy news: Miroku asked her out! Definitely an occasion to celebrate.

Kouga could see nothing, but he heard voices. However they were blurred and he could not discern who it belonged to. But he was sure it belonged to a female. Kagome? He had no idea. He felt pain all over, he tried to open his eyes but to no use, he tried to sit up but his muscles were stiff. A sudden fatigue overtook him and he drifted back to darkness.

A/N: Less than two weeks and it's a new school year. Bummer. Though seeing friends again is a good thing to look forward to.
I don't know how long this story will turn out, and I need someone to tell me, if you want it longer or does my writing just suck. Thanks!

Merry Christmas to everyone!
