don’t own Inuyasha. And I should have mentioned before that I don’t own Enzyte either, but I love the commercials.

The group sat around the table quietly, all eyes focused on Shippo as he began his tale. “It’s hard to know where to begin with this, Kagome; so, I will start at the beginning.” Shippo shifted slightly in his seat, and prepared for the long haul. “Before Inuyasha’s father died, he spoke with his vassals about his wishes for his lands and possessions, should anything ever happen to him. You all already know about his swords, but you weren’t informed about his desire to continue his blood line and have his territory remain within his lineage. I don‘t know if you guys are aware, but those old men are almost as dense about mating as Inuyasha and Sesshomaru are,” Inuyasha glared at him indignantly, “HEY!” Shippo rolled his eyes but continued anyway, “but Myoga, at least, was wise enough to know that they needed help, so, that‘s when I came into the picture.”, he paused, and looked at each person to gauge their reaction so far. Finally, Kagome urged him to continue, “So, you mean he asked Myoga, Totosai, and Siah to make sure one of his son’s…uh…produced an heir?”, she asked a little heatedly.

Shippo looked at her guiltily, then continued his story, “Well, yes. And, I’m sorry we had to resort to such trickery but, honestly, they’re both idiots when it comes to women. At first, the geezers tried to hook Sesshomaru up with a nice butterfly youkai, she was really beautiful and she had her choice of suitors, but they weren’t aware of some of Sesshomaru’s…uh…oddities.”

“O ddities?”, Kagome and Sango said in unison.

“Uh…yeah , we’ll get to that later.”, said Shippo, earning a chuckle from the gleeful hanyou. “So, anyways, there was no other option than to find a suitable mate for Inuyasha. That’s where the ‘Shikon no Tama’ comes into the story. I don’t know what possessed me to come up with such an elaborate scheme in the first place, but please believe me when I say that, although I have nearly accomplished my mission, I deeply regret all of the sadness and loss of life that resulted from my carelessness. As I have told you, what you know as the Jewel of Four Souls, is actually my hoshi no tama. Most fox demons have them because we are the most powerful of all demons, and after we reach a certain age our body generates this jewel to contain a large portion of our spiritual energy.” Everybody looked at Inuyasha to see if he was about to argue the point about fox demons being the most powerful of all, and all were surprised (only a little bit) to see that he was completely ignoring Shippo, and staring dreamily at Kagome.

Shippo continued his story after he had everyone’s attention again, “I made up the story about the jewel, knowing that I could lure numb-nuts here,” he said as he jerked his thumb at the oblivious half-demon, “into seeking out it’s ‘powers’. I made sure it made it into the hands of Kikyou, then…” At this, Miroku interrupted, “Why Kikyou?” Shippo sighed heavily and closed his eyes for a moment. “There was this old hag seer that I went to see that said that Kikyou would lead him to the one that he was meant to be with…and before you all get carried away, I had no idea what was about to happen.” He fixed everyone in the group with a stern look before he continued with his story.

“Somehow, Kikyou was able to bind my energy to her soul when she meditated with the damn jewel, and that’s when things got out of hand. While I thought my plans to secure an heir were coming together, because she and Inuyasha seemed to be attracted to each other, I was not aware that she was harboring that bastard Onigumo.” The group collectively gasped, with the exception of Inuyasha who was still lost in hentai dreamland.

“After he allowed the demons possessed him, he went after my jewel, and…well…you all know what happened then…he deceived Inuyasha and Kikyou, then she sealed him to the tree.” Shippo took a deep breath then continued, “So…that kind of put a kink in my plans, especially when she had my jewel burnt with her body…“, he looked angry for a moment, then almost instantly calmed, “…so, I had to get creative to find a way to break her damn spell and get my jewel back…and, that’s where you came in, Kagome.

“I knew that the spell could only be broken by her spirit, so I sought her reincarnation. Time travel is always a chore, and a huge waste of energy, but it was the only thing I could think of at the time to get Inuyasha freed from the spell. So, I spent fifty years looking for Kikyou’s reincarnation in various time periods, until I found you.”

Everybody sat back in shock, staring at Shippo as if he had grown an extra head. He smiled lightly, then continued, “I believe fate allowed me to find you, because you came to live right next to the tree that Inuyasha was pinned to. I disguised myself, and kept a careful watch over you as you grew into adulthood, then made sure that you came back to this time to free Inuyasha, and give me back my jewel. I believe you were meant to be the one because I could sense my aura within you’re body where the jewel used to be, and with fifty years of searching over a 500 year time span, I had never felt it anywhere else before.” He paused and cast a concerned look at Kagome who looked like she was about to faint.

“Buyo?”, she whispered in a trembling voice.

“Meow!”, Shippo confirmed with a large grin.

“Anyway, Kagome managed to shatter my jewel all over the country; much to my dismay, I might add, and that asshole Naraku started gathering up the pieces.”

The silence that followed Shippo’s story was resounding. Everyone was utterly shocked at Shippo’s revelation, so while they were all still distracted, he continued, “I need you guys to come with me to Sesshomaru’s home…I need your help with something.”



A/N - About Shippo, I found the coolest coincidence in Wikipedia (which I also do not own) when researching my characters. If you care to see, look up kitsune, and you can see first hand that I am not completely full of shit. All of the powers that I have described are really associated with kitsune, and the jewel thing was just too good of a coincidence to pass up!
