Chapter 2

Ryu woke up slowly knowing it was very early in the morning. The warmth at her back so comforting that she just snuggled in. She was in no way startled by the warm arm that snaked around her waist. Her senses would recognize him anywhere. She squeaked when he suddenly lifted her in his arms bridal style. Walking into the other room he slowly let her feet touch the ground. Bending his head he captured her mouth in a passionate kiss.

Ryu moaned a little winding her fingers to his hair. When he broke the kiss she found herself staring into his burning green eyes. “Wow. That's some good morning.” She said breathlessly. She slowly pulled her hands out of his hair, stroking his cheek.

“Damn Ryu, I don't deserve you but I love you so much!”

“Hush! You deserve everything.” She scolded him. “I love you too Kurama. I always will.”

Pulling her into his embrace, he was quiet a minute. Then chuckling he said “I see we have guests.”

Ryu stiffened a little, dropping her arms from around his neck, she said “I'm sorry Kurama, but they're my friends and I……” she stopped has a gentle finger stilled her lips.

“Honey, Honey.” Kurama whispered. “I know. Your heart is one of the many things I love about you. I'm not angry. I promise.” His thumbs brushed her cheeks, inwardly cursing himself for every stupid thing he'd ever said to her.

“I know you're not angry but….”

“No Ryu, no buts. I made snide comments about your soft heart while always admiring it. While I was still fighting what I felt for you.”

“Yea, you fought hard but I caught you didn't I.” Ryu said giggling.

“No sweetheart, I caught you.” Kurama corrected softly.

“We'll argue about it tonight.” She said blushing prettily. “Grandmother wants to talk to you.”

Kurama, catching the meaning behind the blush, grinned wide “I'll go and see her now.” Before leaving, he asked, “So who are our friends?”

“Well let's see; the monk's name is Miroku, Sango is the woman with him. The half demon's name is Inuyasha. I met them yesterday. Kagome is the girl with him. I've known her for years.”

Kurama let out a small gasp, “Your friend Kagome, from our time? How in the hell?”

Ryu rubbed her finger across his bottom lip. “I don't know yet. We're going to have a big confessional today. I'll start breakfast and you go see Grandmother.”

Bending his head to kiss her, he left.

*********

Kagome woke up when something tickled her nose. Opening her eyes she blushed, realizing she was face to face with Inuyasha, his arm around her waist. His hair had fallen over them both. Looking at him, Kagome remembered the questions he was waiting answers to. What should she do? She knew what she wanted to do. She let her gaze drift over his sleeping face. Impulsively she reached up and placed a gentle kiss on his lips.

Golden eyes opened slowly. Seeing Kagome so close he smiled. “What a perfect way to wake up.” Leaning in he returned her light kiss. Burying his face in her hair he drew her closer, “Gods Kagome, I love you.”

“I love you too Inuyasha.”

A loud clatter from the other room had Kagome sitting up. “I think that's Ryu. She never could cook quietly. I'm going go help her.” Has she tried to get up, Inuyasha grabbed her hand. Looking down on him she saw surprise in his eyes. Not wanting to answer the question she knew was coming she leaned down to kiss him again. “I'll be back when we're done.”

Turning to go into the other room, she heard Sango say, “Wait for me Kagome. I'll come with you.”

Miroku and Sango had both been awakened by the noise in the other room. Sango was sleeping with her head on his shoulder, her arm draped across his middle. His arm was around her waist. “Oh no.” he thought. “ I've got to move before she wakes up and slaps me silly.” To late, the woman at his side jerked a little. Then tightening her embrace around his middle she looked up and kissed his cheek. “What was that for?” He asked huskily.

Sango smiled at him. “That was because you didn't rub my butt once all night.” Her smile then grew shy, “and just because.” She placed a quick kiss on his lips, turning and calling out to Kagome .

After both girls had left the room, Inuyasha stood up and folded his blanket. Starting to shrug into his fire rat, he changed his mind. Shaking his head he threw it down beside the cushions him and Kagome had shared.

Miroku, following Inuyasha's lead had already straightened his and Sango's sleeping area. He dropped onto the cushion with a flounce. “Did you see that Inuyasha?” The monk looked confused. “She didn't slap me. She even kissed me.”

Inuyasha sat down too. “I told you that if you would stop your womanizing she'd come around.”

“Well it looks like you were right. So what about you, what's got you looking so perplexed?”

“It's Kagome. She told me she loved me.”

“There's a problem with this?” Miroku asked

“No, monk you don't understand. Kagome has said she cares about me. She has even said she wants to stay with me. This morning she looked me in the eye, told me she loved me too, and kissed me. Then went to help Ryu.”

Miroku laughed sympathetically at Inuyasha. “Just when we think we have them figured out.” He looked over at his friend and let out a “Whoa.”

“What?”

“Where's your fire rat? I've never see you out of it unless you're injured.”

“I went to put it on but figured I didn't need it. It's right here.” He said pointing to the floor.

“I guess they were right about this being a relaxing place.”

Ryu strolled into the room then. Pausing only to say good morning to the boys, she grabbed her music case and strolled out again.

Both boys looked surprised, then Miroku shrugged. “Kagome said it goes everywhere with her.”

“I wonder what she's going to do with it?” Inuyasha asked

“I wonder what it is.”

Trying to explain the music player to Miroku, they heard laughing and stomping coming from the other room.

“Lets go see what they're up to.” Inuyasha suggested.

Walking to the opening between rooms both boys crossed their arms and leaned against the wall. In the back of the room a red haired boy had the same look.

“Must be Ryu's intended.” Miroku whispered.

Inuyasha nodded not taking his eyes off the scene in front of him.

Kagome, Sango and Ryu stood in a small circle, arms around each others shoulders heads together and eyes closed. Swaying to the music coming out of the small speakers in their ears.

Suddenly the red head moved, walking up behind Ryu, gesturing for the other two do the same. They positioned themselves, each one behind the girl he cared about. Watching the red haired boy, as he slowly counted off three on his fingers, then reaching out and grabbing the girls around the waist.

Clamping his ears to his head at the shrieks that followed, Inuyasha moaned a little.

All three girls looked at him. “Sorry.”

Kagome lifted her hand to rub one of his ears. “Sorry Inuyasha, we were just startled.” She leaned in to kiss his cheek and hug him close.

Returning the hug he heard Ryu say “ Everyone this is my intended Kurama. I pointed out to him who everyone was this morning.”

Nodding his greeting he turned to look at the monk, his eyebrows climbing in shock. Sango stood in front of Miroku, leaning against his chest both his arms around her waist.

“Would you look at that.” Inuyasha whispered in Kagome's ear.

“About time.” Kagome giggled

Everyone turned to look at Kurama as he said smiling, “Is that any way for a mate to be to act?”

Ryu laughed. “Hey, you knew what you were getting when you put this ring on my finger.”

All teasing left Kurama's face as he pulled her close. “I did didn't I. I can't believe how lucky I am.”

Kagome, saving her friend from being stared at said hurriedly, “Hey everyone breakfast is ready. Help yourself.”

**********

Sitting in the other room with stomachs full, conversation had dwindled into silence. Not an uncomfortable silence but a shared one.

Ryu stood up. “I'm going to the hot springs. Would you girls like to come too?”

Giggling and nodding both girls grabbed their bathing supplies and followed Ryu out of the room.

Kurama looked at his companions conversing quietly together thinking, “I've never felt this comfortable with strangers so quickly.” He was never one to pry but he could sense the worry in his new friend. “Inuyasha,” he asked softly. “Is Kagome your mate to be?

Inuyasha looked at the floor. “I've asked her to be my mate. I explained to her that dog demons mate for life. She got nervous and asked for time. Time to give me an answer.” Inuyasha looked at Karama, “I owe her that. Hell, I owe her that and much more.”

Karama nodded slowly. “You too, huh. I owe Ryu everything. I've treated her badly at times.” He smiled as Inuyasha nodded in understanding. “I even hated her nickname. In my thinking, Ryu was to strong a name for a girl. Why couldn't she just be Keiko? That's such a soft sweet name.” Kurama shook his head in disgust. “I constantly needled her about her soft heart and her need to always help out in times of trouble. It took me nearly losing her to accept what I felt. I loved her. I wanted her to be Keiko so I could be the bad assed male rushing in to protect what was his.”

“Kagome is the same way. She cries over me when I get injured even though she knows that being half demon I heal quickly. She mothers an orphaned fox demon like it the most natural thing. Hell she even worries about Sango and the monk over there.”

Miroku looked surprised. “She does?”

“Of course she does. Sango is like a sister to her, and she knew how much your womanizing hurt her. She also understood that was how you dealt with your feeling for Sango.”

“Is Sango your mate to be then?” Kurama asked

Miroku looked at he floor and shook his head no.

Inuyasha snorted. “If she's not your mate to be, then what is she? You asked her to have your children and she agreed.”

The monk blushed and looked at his hand. Fingering the covering and the prayer beads he whispered, `Not until our worries are over.”

Kurama looked puzzled and hesitantly asked the monk, “What worries?”

“There has been a curse placed on my family. One that may take my life. Until this curse is broken I dare not take Sango has my wife. I cannot, while there is a chance I might leave her alone to raise our children.”

“If Ryu has taught me anything its that you have to grab all the happiness you can today. We have no promise of tomorrow.'

The monk looked thoughtful then asked Kurama a question. “Getting back to the subject of your dislike of Ryu as a nickname, you seem very comfortable with it now. Why?

“She fights fiercely to protect those she cares about; she doesn't want to be babied. She would rather argue honestly than accept a fake apology. She's Ryu. Besides a friend of ours has a girlfriend named Keiko, it's less confusing this way.”

“I wasn't listening when she told the story of how she got her nickname.” Inuyasha said.

Kurama laughed. “Well it's no secret. Before she was born her parents had picked out two names. Keiko if the baby was a girl, Ryu if it was a boy. Of course she was named Keiko at birth. Even as a toddler she proved to strong willed for the name, always wanting to do what the boys were doing. Her father made the comment that they should have named her Ryu anyway and she overheard. Starting that day she refused to answer to Keiko. She's been Ryu ever since.”

The giggling and the chatter coming from the other room announced the girls return. Each boy looked towards the door expectantly, waiting to be reunited with his girl.

The girls walked in glowing from the heat of the hot springs. Sango spoke first; “That was nice. I feel so much better.” She strolled up to the monk, placing a quick kiss on his lips while she gracefully settled herself between his legs.

Miroku put both arms around her and settled her tighter against his chest. He rubbed his cheek against her hair inhaling her scent. They both looked at the others expectantly.

Kagome followed Sango's example, leaning against Inuyasha. She then noticed something different. “Inuyasha, where is your fire rat? Like Miroku she had only seen him without it when he was injured.

Inuyasha smiled. “Its right there,” he said pointing to the floor. “I didn't feel the need for it.” He pulled Kagome closer and they looked at Ryu expectantly.

Ryu laughed as she cuddled up to Kurama. “So I guess everyone is ready for the big talk, so I'll start off. Kagome what are you doing here in the feudal era, and how did you get here?”
