Bleep! Bleep! Bleep! Kagome groaned inwardly at the sound of the alarm going off. Her arm snaked out of the covers and she hit the snooze button, only to roll back over once again. Pulling the blankets up and over her head she tried to drift back to sleep.
The sound of running water could be heard as a woman stood at a sink cleaning up after the nightly dinner. A little girl around the age of 10 was chasing a kitten across the living room floor. A knock was heard on the door and both stopped what they were doing and looked at it.
The little girl looked at her mother, “Mom I'll get it” She rushed to the door and swung it open hoping that It would be her father. She was dissapointed and only found two men dressed in black. The men looked down at her and gave her a short smile. “Is your mother around?” He said calmly. The girl nodded and yelled, “MOM! Its for you” She took off to find the cat once again, this time mabye to give it a bath. The older woman walked to the door, drying her hands on a towel. “Yes,” She said with a smile. “Can I help you?”
“Ma'am is there somewhere we can go to talk?” The taller one said in an monotone voice.
“Sure,” She said and directed them to the living room. “So what is it that you needed?”
“Mrs. Higurashi, I am Robert Helson and this is my partner, Jon Macentier,” Robert said softly. “We workedwith your husband.”
Mrs. Higurashi nodded, a bit confused on why they would becoming to talk to her. Kagome listened in in the doorway, not being noticed by the other three persons.
Jon continued. “There was an accident on ourlast assignment, earlier today.” He paused and fiddled with the edge of his shirt. “He..He was killed” He blurted out quickly, not looking at her.
Mrs. Higurashi gasped and coverd her mouth with her hands. “No…it can't be,”she mumbled softly. Hearing the news Kagome's eyes grew wide and tears began to fill them. .
“D..d..dad?….d…died?…NO!”. She screamed and took off runnning up the stairs.
Bleep! Bleep! Bleep! Kagome woke with a start, tears in her eyes. She reached over and flipped off the alarm clock and sat up in bed. She brushed the tears from her eyes fruiously and climbed out of bed. She hadn't had that dream in a long time. Kagome walked to her dresser and picked up the picture of her mother and her father, the latest one before he had died. “Dad,” she whispered softly and touched the picture. Shaking the thoughts from her head she set the picture down and headed off toward the bathroom.
She turned the water on hot and slipped out of night gown. Checking herself in the mirror she noddded contently and stepped into the shower. She let the hot water fall on to her, letting it wash away the memories of pain. After clensing herself she stepped out of the shower and wrapped at pink fluffly towel around her. Kagome stiffled a yawn and walked back into her bedroom. She glanced at the clock and found that it read 5:30 a.m. “Shit,” she mumbled to herself and quickly rummaged through her dresser to find something suitible for work today. Pulling out a pair of black slacks and a pick tank, she rushed bck into the bathroom, her feet making little padding sounds on the wooden floor. Kagome quickly got dressed, did her hair, put on her make up and rushed out of the bathroom.
Taking the stairs two at at time she pulled on her jacket and slipped into her shoes. She didn't stop for breakfast but grabbed her breifcase and rushed out the door, locking it behind her. Kagome jumped behind the wheel, throwing her breifcase in the seat next to her, and started the engine. She pulled out of the driveway making the tires squeel on the pavement. A smile formed on her lips at this, won't her neighbors love her now? She shook her head and checked the clock. 5:45 it read. She cursed under he breath and pucked up speed, now going 45 in a 30 zone.
She reached the building in under ten minutes and drove in to the parking garage. Just as she was about to pull into her usual parking space, a white car squeezed in front of her and took it instead. Kaogme rolled down her window and gave the man in the car a rude sign before finding another parking space. Stepping out of the car and grabbing her breifcase she glanced up to see who had stolen her spot. Her eyes narrowed at the man. He was the one on the elavator yesterday, she mused to herself and headed toward the stairs to get into the building.
She reached the main floor and walked to the elevator, giving a short nod to the desk clerk. The elevator dang and she stepped into it. Before the doors could close the same man stepped on to it and next to her. Kagome gave him an icy glare and pushed the button for floor 14, as he reached in and pushed the button for floor 2.
“Hello,” he said with a smile and turned to look at her, his sliver-white hair falling into his face.
“Hello,” Kagome replied curtly. The bell rang and the doors opened. “And goodbye,” she said just as coldly.
He smiled and stepped out. “have a good day Miss.”
The doors closed and Kagome let out an exsaprated sigh. “Who does he think he is?” she mused and waited for the elevator to reach her floor. As the doors opened she was greeted by her secetary.
“Miss Kagome,” Emma said, handing her a cappachino. “Sango called and said to meet her at Larry's tonight after work.”
Kagome nodded and took a sip of her drink. “Thank you Emma. Oh and sorry about last night.”
“It's alright, Miss.” Emma replied and went back to her desk.
As the day wore on Kagome could feel herself getting more and more stressed. Her cases were getting harder and she wasn't sure if she could deal with it. By the time 5:00 rolled around Kagome found herself exhausted and ready to leave. She grabbed her belongings and headed out of the building. Kagome stifled a yawn as she waited for the elevator to bring her down. The elevator dang and she opened her eyes only to find the man with the sliver-white hair looking at her.
“What are you looking at?” she snapped and waited for him to look away.
“I haven't figured it out yet,” He replied calmly and pulled on his jacket.
“Well incase you didn't know, a picture lasts longer,” She said and stepped out of the elevator and exited the building. She drove toward Larry's her mind fuming. Parking next to a white car she headed toward the bar. It was hers and Sango's favorite place to hang out and get away even if she couldn't' drink yet. . She walked into the building and was startled.
“SURPRISE!” about 25 people yelled. Kagome blinked and looked around, the place was decorated for a birthday. Then it hit her, today was her 21st birthday. She had been working so hard for the past two months, that it had totally slipped her mind. A smile formed on her lips and she hugged Sango tightly.
“Oh, Sango, You didn't have to do this,” Kagome said cheerfully, her spirits now lifted.
“Of course I did, you only turn twenty-one once,” Sango smiled and handed Kagome a screwdriver. “To Kagome, the best Lawyer around,” she toasted.
Kagome sipped her first drink and mingled around the place, saying hello to people she hadn't seen for a very long time. As she was getting another drink something sliver caught her eye. She turned her head but didn't see anything. She shrugged and went off to find Sango.
She found her dancing with Miroku. Kagome smiled and beckoned Sango over. “So Sango, you said there was someone you wanted to introduce me to?” She said and took a sip of her drink.
“Oh yes, that's right, let me go find him for you,” Sango said and disappeared into the crowd. Kagome lounged back in her chair and watched the people dance. A few moments later she saw Sango returning, with a guy who had sliver-white hair. Kagome snorted into her drink and set her cup down, a icy glare forming in her eyes.
“Kagome, I want you to meet InuYasha.” Sango said pushing InuYasha forward.
Kagome looked at him with a glare that could kill. “We've met,” was all she said before standing up and walking away.
