Apologies! There were some technical difficulties here that kept me from posting this chapter on time *sighs* so frustrating and so hot here. The weather stationed declared a dangerous heat warning-- in the hundreds *sweats*
Flawless lips smirk as Naraku examines his prize, a single clawed finger dipping into the ragged wound the shards would soon heal. The Shikon no Tama, it was beautiful, yes undoubtedly. It was tainted to the fullest exstent of his power, it's surface a light absorbing black, and it was nearly complete. His smirk stretches his face in an way that distorts it's deceptive beauty, nearly complete, and the other shards-- he only needed to collect them. One from the taijiya's brother, two from the wolf, and the remainder from the shard hunting group. He vaguely wondered how long it would take for them to realize, how long would they continue to chase rumors before they found there were no more stray shards to find? It did not matter to him. The longer they took, the more time he had to prepare for the upcoming battle. He would greatly enjoy displaying the groups heads in his courtyard for all to see, others would know then; this is your fate, if you so foolishly choose to challenge me. He laughs haughtily, or maybe he would go for more . . . original.
"Kanna . . . show me the wolf"

Inuyasha allows a small smile, his claws running harmlessly over his mate's cheek. He was sleeping peacefully now, their mating rituals complete. His smile draws into a hard line. He had given in, he did not regret it however . . . it worried him to no end. He fought to keep his emotions in check at this point. Miroku snuggled closer to his kneeling form, his robes shifting to uncover his naked shoulder. He could probably feel his unease through their bond, not as strongly as it would be but faintly for sure. He let his mate's contentment flood his being and calm him. Perhaps it was better this way, taking this risk. Miroku had more than made it clear that if it came to such and he did not survive, he would either die with him as his mate or commit suicide and follow his soul into the afterlife. Yes, to live as mates as long as fate would allow, it was what he wanted. He smiles, a full smile this time. He pushes the nagging thoughts of Naraku out of his head. He had to be confident in them, his pack and himself, all of them.
His brother's face flashes in his mind up on a big screen. He would pay a visit, they would pay a visit, hopefully his brother would bother to see logic above his own pride. He had seen . . . something, with Yuji, maybe it was a sign. He sighs, having let his mind drift again. He did not hate his brother.

Pausing Sesshoumaru looks up, off into the sky 'The day is --pleasant and yet' Jakken stops just short of running into the taiyoukai's legs. Rin shuffles forward to his side trying to catch what he was looking at "is it a bird Sesshoumaru-sama?"
"No Rin, it is not a bird" Sesshoumaru refocuses his attention towards the east, towards the outskirts of his land "there has been a change in plans" Jakken's mouth opens to speak "do not question me Jakken" it closes immediately. Rin's mouth pouts slightly as she resists the urge to ask about their destination.
"come now Ah, Un" skipping back to grabs the reins Rin follows as Sesshoumaru changes direction, Jakken following after.
'This feeling is foreboding, a knot in my spine I cannot get rid of. It can only be him' He glances down at Rin 'The final battle is soon, time to push aside differences Inuyasha'

Naraku chuckles as he watches the blood pool onto the dusty ground, he holds the two shards up to the light as they darken simply from his touch. His eyes shift over the prone form of the wolf prince. "Tell me wolf . . . how does it feel?" Kouga's body twitches angrily, fingers clenching weakly, his body unable to move. The nothingness girl, Kanna, stood next to the wretched hanyou keeping him pinned, anchored by his own soul. He didn't have the strength to fight her anymore.
"Describe the pain to me . . . does it sting? Perhaps burn? Maybe you have gone numb? A relief?" Naraku smirks, as a repulsed gasp escapes the wolf, his tentacle slithering over the exposed skin on his chest. It traces around the wound there, the youkai's armor broken and useless. Cuts and gashes litter the wolf’s tanned skin, bruises darkening marked the sites upon which internal damage had been inflicted. The hanyou's smirk slowly slips from his face as the wolf coughs, blood leaking from the side of his mouth. He wouldn't last long in this state, but it would be no fun if he died now. It would please Naraku more to watch from afar as the wolf was crushed by his own grief, the blood of his entire pack now on his hands. He would blame himself for their deaths.
"Dear prince" he draws his appendages back under his fur cloak "--a favor." He lets his scent seep through his personal barrier, knowing full well the shard hunting group was close, that's where the wolf was heading after all.
"Give your dear hanyou friend this message: I'll be coming for his shards next, as well as his life" he allows a slow smirk to overtake his face at hearing the group approach before a whirlwind of miasma engulfs the two, and they disappear.
Kouga feels the invisible weight disappear just as Inuyasha enters the clearing followed by the monk. his body jerks painfully as he coughs again, more blood. A horrified gasp comes from behind him as the large fire-cat lands, carrying the two women.
"Kouga! Oh gods!" Kouga smiles weakly as the girl shields the sight from the young kit.
"Kagome-- my woman . . ." his vision splits and he notices an unfamiliar figure, just before he looses consciousness, the miko's feet pounding towards him.
