Chapter one

Childhood Dreams

Inuyasha stared down at the familiar silk carpet of his childhood home. How did he get here? His home was destroyed years ago. But everything was there. The lucky bamboo plant on the table was there, and so were the many doors in the hallway ahead of him. If he remembered correctly his mother's room would be at the end of the hallway. With that in mind Inuyasha started to walk towards the open door ahead of him. The first door to his right slowly began to open. Inuyasha paused expecting someone to come out. Maybe it was his brother. But when no one did he continued on, and peered inside while walking past. Not even surprised by the dead man hanging by his neck from the ceiling. With closer inspection he recognized the man to be Kouga the wolf demon.

Next the door to his left opened as he walked by. Inuyasha didn't even slow his pace as he passed the open doorway. Not even caring that Kikyo was pined to the God tree inside.

The second door to his right opened as well to reveal Sesshomaru lying dead on the floor with Tenseiga through his chest. Staining the white silk beneath him.

The next door to the left showed Miroku with his staff through the remaining of his neck and his head placed in his cursed hand. Now Inuyasha stopped at this door. The others he didn't care, but this was his friend! Wait... Where were the others? "Oh, shit! Kagome!"

Inuyasha's walk down the hallway turned into a full on sprint passing the remaining doorways in a flash. Glancing in each one hoping to see Kagome... alive.

Sango lying face down with Kohaku's weapon through her back. Not Kagome. Shippo skinned and spread on the floor as a bloody rug. No Kagome. "Kagome where are you?" Inuyasha stopped dead in his tracks. He could smell two things he did not like, a demon, and blood. It was Kagome's blood. And it was coming from his mother's room. Inuyasha closed his eyes for a moment to prepare for what he knew he would find.

Inuyasha eyes shot open as he gasped for air. The smell of Kagome's blood still fresh in his nostrils. Kagome where was she? "Kagome! Kagome where are you!" Inuyasha jumped down from his perch on the high tree branch landing heavily not minding who heard. All he wanted was to see Kagome well. "Kagome!"

"Inuyasha?" Kagome sat up from her sleeping pad rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "What's wrong?"

"Kagome!" Inuyasha said in a rather loud relived voice.

"Inuyasha! Quiet down or you will wake the others!" She was surprised that they hadn't wakened already.

"Kagome?" Inuyasha walked toward her careful to keep his voice down. Falling to his knees when he reached her side, keeping back the tears that almost formed in his eyes. "Kagome... You're alright."

"Of course I am. Inuyasha what's wrong with you?" Inuyasha, after realizing how he was acting, pulled away. He turned away from her.

"Nothing. Go back to sleep." Not even glancing behind him he went back up to his branch high in the tree.

"Inuyasha..."

"What the hell was that?" Inuyasha thought to himself. "Was that a dream? But it was so real... When I woke up I thought I was still in the dream... Damn..."

Inuyasha sat in the corner of Kaiede's hut in his usual sulk position, thinking of his dream from the previous night. His friends... What happened to Kagome? "Damn it! I'll find out! I'll kill that damn youkai when I find him!" Inuyasha thought to himself, a small growl vibrating in his chest. "Feh, I need to get a hold of myself! It was just a dream! But... it was so real... I can still smell Kagome's blood..."

"Inuyasha?" Speaking of Kagome. "Inuyasha... Last night? What happened?" Kagome asked him, quiet enough so that only Inuyasha and herself could here.

"Feh. Don't worry about it. It doesn't concern you," Inuyasha said not even bothering to look up at her.

"Inuyasha if something is wrong with you it does concern me!" Kagome came closer crouching down in front of him with a determined look on her face. "Inuyasha... I'm here for you..."

Inuyasha turned away with a "Keh," as a light blush crept over his cheeks. "Kagome... Thank you..."

"If you need to talk you know where to find me." Kagome gave Inuyasha a small smile before standing and walking to the rest of the group by the fire.

"Did you find out what was bothering Inuyasha, Kagome?" Sango asked lying against Kirara.

"No." Kagome sighed. "He said it didn't concern me...But if that were true why did he... It was as though he thought I would disappear at any moment..."

Inuyasha opened his eyes to the familiar silk carpet of his childhood home once again. With out a moment's hesitation he ventured down the hall. He passed the first door then the second. He wasn't even interested. He already knew what was there. He wanted to know what was at the end. He passed the third door, the smell of Kagome's blood got stronger. As he reached the fourth door he began to walk at a faster pace, Kagome's blood getting stronger. Now he was past the fifth door. Inuyasha sprinted down the remaining hall, flashing past the sixth. Finally he reached the final and last door, the seventh door. The smell of Kagome's blood was over whelming him.

As he stepped through the doorway all Inuyasha could see was the bright light filling the room. But soon that passed and his eyes filled with the horror of what he knew would be there. He saw Kagome's battered and bloody body lying motionless on the floor. Beside her stood the demon that had killed her. He had no form, and no face. Or perhaps he was just facing away from Inuyasha. All he knew was that he couldn't see this demon's face. "What the hell have you done to Kagome?"

The demon answered with an evil laugh. "You mean, what have you done to her?"

"What are you talking about? I didn't do this! You did! And you're going to die for it!" Inuyasha pulled out Tessaiga holding it in front of him. "Wait... What the Hell! Why didn't it transform?" Laughing met his ears once again.

"Don't you get it Inuyasha? See the truth, boy. See what you have done."

"Shut up! You bastard! I'll kill you! I'll kill you!!"

"Inuyasha! Inuyasha wake up! It's a dream! Inuyasha!!" Kagome shook Inuyasha franticly trying to wake him from his dream. He had been yelling and jerking in his sleep. Kagome had gone over to try and comfort him, but then nearly jumped out of her skin when she saw the youkai features starting to take over his face. Now she was there trying to wake him. "Inuyasha, please! Wake up!"

Inuyasha's eyes suddenly came to life as he woke pining Kagome to the ground with one clawed hand raised above his head ready to attack. "I'll kill you!"

In a frantic rush Kagome did the only thing she think of. "Inuyasha!" she yelled, "Sit!" And just like that Inuyasha was flat... on Kagome... hmm...

"Inuyasha? Are you Okay?" Kagome asked from underneath his weight. Inuyasha sat up as the rosary spell wore off. Looking down at the person he attacked his eyes filled with shame guilt and pain.

"Kagome...? Oh my god... Kagome I'm sorry I. He. I wouldn't..." Inuyasha sat back onto his haunches from his prone position on Kagome, eyes hidden behind a curtain of hair. "... God, please don't tell me he was right..."

"Inuyasha?" Kagome sat up. The worry and fear still fresh in her sent. "Please Inuyasha, tell me what's happening to you."

Inuyasha nodded. He was about to start when, looking up, he realized he had an audience. Sighing Inuyasha stood and headed for the door.

"Inuyasha?"

"Don't worry... I just need to think... I'll be back in a bit."

"Inuyasha."

Inuyasha sat on his favorite branch of the God Tree, a hard look upon his face. "He couldn't be right could he? No. No! I would never do that! I would never hurt Kagome! My Kagome!" His heart skipped a beat at that thought. "Did I really just think that? My Kagome... What does it mean?"

"It means you love her..." Said a small voice in the back of his mind, so familiar yet long forgotten.

"I... love her?"
