Epilogue
Rin woke up feeling worse then the night before. The fox demon lay sleeping next to her. She didn't bother waking him up, for she did not feel the need. Besides, she really wanted to be alone. She quietly slipped from the bed and put on her robe. She silently glided out the door and into the garden.
She still couldn't get over what had happened the night before. Everything had been going well. Until Tomo showed up. She had feared for her friend's life. Even if Tomo had been Naraku's son, she knew the spider demon was nothing like the monster that had terrorized the Feudal Era.
She was happy that Tomo had decided to take Asakura home with him. She knew what her friends and family had been up to last night. She wasn't stupid. They were trying to get Tomo to take Asakura as a mate.
She didn't blame them. Now that Asakura knew about the demons, she couldn't be left alone. Her life would be in danger until the day she died. Especially if other demons found out she knew, which was quite possible. Once a human knew demons existed, it was difficult for the human to not notice them. Rin knew Asakura's life was changed forever.
Why shouldn't Tomo take her on as a mate? Then, the girl would be protected. Demons weren't known for messing with each other's mates. Especially if the other demon was much more powerful then them. And that was one thing about Tomo. He was a very powerful demon. Only an idiot would mess with him.
But, spider demons did not take on mates. Rin knew this. Tomo would never take Asakura as a mate. Perhaps a partner for a little while. But a mate? Rin shook her head.
She wondered if Tomo would insist on Asakura attending the demon school. It only made sense. Now that Asakura knew demons existed, she should be around them. Not so much to let the demons know that she knows, but to let them know she is protected by powerful demons. Not just Tomo, but Sesshomaru, Edward, Shippo, and even Inuyasha.
Rin smiled. She knew the four guys would protect the human. If not for Asakura, then for Rin. They cared enough about Rin to grant her that.
The girl's smile grew bigger. Finally. Someone her age who knew about demons. She now had someone she could talk to. While she was grateful to have Tomo, Hokochi, and Edward as friends, she wanted a human friend. She needed a human friend. Someone who could understand where she was coming from. It was so hard for Rin at times. The demons didn't really quite comprehend things the same way humans did. And while Rin did not fault them for that, she felt lonely occasionally.
She felt a demonic aura and glanced up. She smiled when she saw the familiar face of the spider demon. "How did you get in?" she asked him, tilting her head to the side.
He shrugged. "Last I checked, you and I were friends. All I did was type in the gate's code. The one you gave me. I don't have keys to the house, but I see I didn't need them."
"Oh?" she asked. "Were you looking for me?"
He nodded and took a seat on the bench next to her. "Asakura slept at my place last night," he told her, knowing she would want to know this. "Tomorrow morning, I'll take her home."
Rin sighed, "What are you going to do with her?"
He gave an ironic grin. "That is the same question Elizabeth asked me last night," he answered.
She shrugged. "It's an important question, Tomo. You can't leave her at her parents' home. There's no telling what demon will find her there."
"I know. In all honesty, I don't know what anyone expects of me. My original plan had been simple. Take the girl to the party, devour her later. I had no intentions of bringing her home," he declared.
Rin shook her head. "Will you never find happiness, Tomo? Will you allow your life to remain lonely?" she inquired, gazing at him with her coffee eyes.
His eyebrows furrowed. "A spider's life is a life alone. We indulge keeping to ourselves," he told her.
She smiled as she retorted, "Yes, but, you've never really been a typical spider. Spiders don't fall in love either, yet, you managed to cut out that rule."
He gave her an inquisitive look. "It is amazing how well you know me. Scary at times, for I fear you know me better then myself.... But, no, Rin. I tried love and it didn't work."
"Because you didn't give it a chance. You kept it hidden, to yourself," she softly reprimanded. "To give love a chance, you must start by opening yourself up. To speak up and tell the one you love of your feelings. Don't wait until it's too late, Tomo. By doing so, you might lose your chance."
"I did lose my chance."
"You don't have to again. Take some time. Get to know Asakura. I know she's not me. And she never will be. Asakura is unique in her own way. I hope, in time, you will see that. More importantly, I hope you see that before it's too late."
"So what if I do?" he growled. "She's a mortal. A human. Even if I do decide I love her, she'll die before I get a chance to be happy with her. If you think I'll claim her, you're mistaken. I am a spider and we spiders do not claim."
Rin nodded and bowed her head. "I know, my friend," she whispered. She placed a hand on his shoulder. "Just... give her a chance. Get to know her."
"I will," he assured. "She's going to be living with me from now on."
That proclamation threw Rin in a loop. She sent a stunned glance at Tomo. "I thought..."
"I can't have her stay at a mortal's house. What is going to happen when the demons decide to break down her door and come after her? I got her into this mess. It's my fault. So, it's my job to keep her safe," he told her.
The girl nearly jumped up and down in excitement. Ok. So, it wasn't claiming. Nor was he saying he was going to take her as a mate, but Rin decided this was as good as anything. Perhaps, with Asakura living with Tomo, the spider demon will finally be able to find happiness and peace. He deserved it. And Rin knew the human girl was perfect for the job.
A loud scream made Rin and Shippo jump. They had been comfortably lounging in their bed watching television. Tomo had left hours ago and Rin had told the kitsune about the entire conversation. Shippo had been thrilled.
Jaken barged into their room. "Lady Kagome has gone into labour. My lord is taking her to the hospital right now. Hurry, Rin! The lord and lady has requested that you bring the heir along with you," he explaind to her in a rushed voice.
The girl and kitsune leaped into action. Within moments they were both dressed and Rin was holding InuTaisho. They hopped into Shippo's car and rushed to the hospital.
Running into the lobby, they skidded to a halt before the desk. "My mother," Rin breathed, "went into labour and..."
She saw Sesshomaru from the corner of her eye and ignored the nurse. She ran to him. "How's Momma doing?" she asked.
He gave a slight nod. "She's doing fine. Her water broke this morning, so we decided to bring her in," he informed her.
"Can I see her?" the girl questioned.
At his nod, she handed him her baby brother and went into the hospital room. She smiled when she saw her mother laying on the bed. "Momma?"
The miko looked up and her face brightened. "I'm so glad you were able to make it," Kagome whispered.
"Are they going to do the same with this one like they did with InuTaisho?" Rin asked.
Kagome nodded. Because InuTaisho had a demon father, the child had been much larger then normal human children. Kagome was far too small to birth him naturally. They had to do surgery to get the baby out. It seemed as if they would have to do this again.
"How much longer will it take?" Rin asked.
Kagome smiled. "The doctor should be here soon. Do not worry, my dear. Everything will be fine."
Rin nodded. She knew her mother was right.
True to Kagome's word, the doctor showed up moments later. "It's time, Mrs. Taisho," he told her.
Kagome nodded and looked at her daughter. "I'll be back. Watch your brother for me and don't let Shippo near the vending machine."
Rin chuckled and concurred. She stepped into the hall and took InuTaisho from her father. She then watched as Sesshomaru followed the doctors to the operating room with her mother. It wouldn't be much longer now.
"So, have you chosen a name?" Rin asked, smiling down at the little girl Kagome held in her hands.
The miko glanced up at Sesshomaru. He raised an eyebrow, but permitted the miko to continue. Kagome smiled as she answered, "We have decided to name her Sango, after my old friend, the demonslayer."
Rin's smile widened at that and she looked to Shippo. "I suppose that means you'll want to name our little one 'Miroku'?"
Everyone stopped and stared at the girl. Shippo felt the blood begin to drain and then pump fullforce into his body. "W-w-what do you mean?... our.... little one?" he hesitated.
She laughed, "I meant, when we have one! I'm not pregnant."
Kagome gave a verbal sigh of relief and she felt Sesshomaru ease up. He had gone tense when Rin had spoken of a child.
This made Rin laugh more. "I do need to finish school, guys. I'm not going to go off and have kids when I have studying that needs to be done," she assured them.
"So, why exactly would we name our son 'Miroku'?" Shippo asked once everyone settled down.
Rin shrugged. "I figured if there's a Sango, it's only fair."
"Yes, but it could be years before we have our own child," the kitsune pointed out.
"It better be years," Sesshomaru warned in a low growl.
The kitsune could feel the hairs on the back of his neck raise at that growl. Rin just shook it off. "I wouldn't worry, Daddy. There is still a lot of things I want to do before I have children. Besides, I have eternity, don't I? I, at least, want my siblings to be a little older then any neices and nephews."
Sesshomaru did not respond, instead he turned to his youngest daughter who had begun crying.

Rin sat on the windowsill in her room. She gazed at the crescent moon and the stars. It was her favourite time of the night. A time when everyone was sleeping and she could think.
Her mother had given birth to a beautiful baby girl. Sango had raven black hair and piercing golden eyes. White ears with black pointed tips peeked out from the top of her head. Her slightly pointed nose would one day refine itself into a nose very simular to her father's. The child had a tail as well. A fluffy white tail with a black tip to it.
Rin smiled at the thought of her new sister. She knew the child would grow up a half demon, much different from her older brother. It was odd how that had worked out. No one knew nor understood why InuTaisho had turned out to be a full demon, when his mother was human. But, such questions could not be answered. Rin figured it had something to do with Kagome being a miko.
In years to come, she could see Sango being more like her uncle. Indeed, the girl would probably treat her Uncle Inuyasha as if he were a king. Rin laughed at that thought. She knew Inuyasha would adore the child, if for no other reason then because of the child's mother. And Sango did look a lot like her mother. She had simularities to her father, but all in all, she was her mother's child.
Rin had decided that it was time she and Shippo left the mansion. While she knew her parents would be disappointed, she also knew that they had their own family. Yes. Rin was their daughter, but she was also an adult now. She needed to strike out on her own.
She had discussed this with Shippo on the way home and wasn't surprised when he agreed with her. He had wanted to leave the mansion for a while now and had only stayed because of her.
"It's not that I don't enjoy being around Kagome, I just... We are mates, Rin. And I don't like the idea of us not being able to be alone. We can take care of ourselves," he had said to her.
She agreed. She loved her parents, but she knew that, as long as she lived in the mansion, she lived under Sesshomaru's rules. While those rules were not bad, they kept her from living life the way she wanted. She couldn't do all the things she wished.
She gave a soft sigh before she turned away from the window and slipped back to bed. Gently, she glided her arms around the kitsune's body and fell to sleep. Life for her was going to be perfect.

Well, I never did mean for the story to be long. After all, it is supposed to just be a short spinoff of the first story. I'm surprised it was as long as it was. I had been expecting only 10 chapters, if that.
I hope you've all enjoyed this sequel to "What the Future Has to Bring." I still have another story to write, plus at least two other stories I've decided I want to write. No, I'm not telling anyone what those stories will be about, so don't even ask. If you wish to know, just keep watching. They'll be up soon enough.
Anyhoo, I suppose I should get to working. I'll catch you all later!
