CHAPTER 5 :)
InuYasha slowed as Kaede’s village came into sight. Sango and Miroku were leaning against the fence of Kaede’s small herb garden talking in low voices when they spotted his approach. "Alright you! Spill it! What happened that made Kagome so upset? Why did you just vanish into thin air?" Sango growled at the Half-Demon. InuYasha ignored her and barged into Kaede’s hut, searching for something. He spied what he needed and grabbed it.
"Hey are you listening to me? Kagome was practically in tears! What did you do to her?" "I didn’t do anything! Get off my back!" InuYasha snapped back as he sat down on the floor. He took the long strip of cloth he had found and flattened it, placing the bow he clutched on top of it. He wrapped the cloth around the slender wood and used scrap pieces to tie it snuggly in place. "What are you up to InuYasha?" Sango demanded as he rose and walked outside again. "None of your business."
Kaede appeared and stopped InuYasha’s retreat. "InuYasha. If ye are going to see Kagome, I want ye to take these to her. Make sure she gets them." The old woman went inside her house and came back with four bundles, all wrapped in cloth. She shoved them into his arms and nodded, turning to divert an enraged Sango to other things. "Sango, could ye help me with the garden, I’m having some trouble with these old eyes of mine." "Hold on a minute...InuYasha, Kagome told me to give this to you." Sango pulled a small box from her pocket and placed it into InuYasha’s free hand before following after Kaede.
InuYasha watched as the two women walked away. He looked at the box in his hand with curiosity. Miroku came up and handed him an empty sack. "Here, put everything in this, it’ll be much easier traveling with just one bag instead of all that." "Thanks..." InuYasha absently put the bundles he held into the sack and slipped the small package from his hand to his pocket. With a sigh he waved to Miroku and took off to the Well.
"I wonder what this is..." InuYasha stopped at the Well’s mouth and dropped the sack to the ground, pulling the package out of his pocket. Kagome’s scent still clung to the box as he pealed away the brown paper that covered it. He lifted the lid and pulled off the protecting cotton. Inside lay a small charm, in the shape of a bone, a dog bone to be exact. It made him laugh at the joke. Real funny Kagome. He studied it as the sun light glinted off the shiny stone. The charm was made of a smooth-polished, green stone, probably marble and engraved in it were the words InuYasha, I love you...
InuYasha ran a finger over the charm and clenched it in his fist. She...she loves me? He felt a pang of doubt inside. No one could love a Half-Demon... He looked at the charm again. But she wouldn’t lie to me... He put the charm back in his pocket and dropped the empty box in the Well. One way to find out. He grabbed up the sack and bow and leapt into the dimensions of time, landing softly into Kagome’s world. He sniffed the air, not liking what he smelling. No one’s here? He climbed from the Well and shoved open the shrine door. From outside in the dim light, the house looked empty. They already left. Now what am I supposed to do?
The strange sound of an engine made InuYasha jump up into the Sacred Tree. He hugged his burdens close, afraid of dropping one and giving away his hiding spot. There was a blue colored, rounded piece of metal in front of Kagome’s house, with strange, irritating sounds erupting from it. A person came out of it, slamming what appeared to be a door and jogged up the steps to Kagome’s front door. The girl knocked with no response and she sighed heavily. "No one’s home, they left with out us! Looks like we’re on our own, hope you can find the place." The girl called out, heading back to the odd metal piece. "Where is the reunion being held again?" Another stranger from inside asked as she climbed in beside them.
InuYasha couldn’t hear anything more as the door slammed shut again, blocking out the voices. Wait! The reunion. They’re going to the reunion, I can follow them and find Kagome. Or at least I hope that’s where they’re going...but this is my only chance. I have to follow... The car rolled forward and sped off, InuYasha leaping into the sky after it.
He felt uneasy about what he was doing. If he had guessed wrong, he could get lost and may never find his way back. Already, his nose had lost the familiar scent of Kagome’s comforting home. Now there was no turning back. I had better be right! Jumping from roof to roof and riding on tops of huge trucks, InuYasha trailed the blue car that was hopefully leading him to Kagome.
The lights and sounds around him were fascinating, almost scary. The wind whipped his hair about and the disgusting smell of smog and burning fuels filled his nose. Kagome likes this crappy world better than mine? She’s got to be craze. But then again, she was raised here, this is her home, her world...not mine.
Time seemed to inch by as InuYasha hopped from one roof to the next. The blue car was turning down a new path and he raced to follow it. The sea of lights and deformed metal chunks diminished into tall building with small black paths and even smaller trees. It was another strange village, similar to Kagome’s, but it seemed bigger, taller, more crowded. He leapt up onto the roof of a tall building, keeping the car in his sight. That’s when he caught it. Kagome’s scent!
InuYasha sniffed the air and began to track down Kagome, leaving the car he had followed for who knew how long. The scent of moisture mixed with Kagome’s sweet perfumes. Rain? How come I didn’t smell that earlier? He ran and jumped over obstacles, Kagome’s scent growing with every step. He leapt into the air to land on a clear platform that stood two stories off the ground. In front of him was an even taller building, double the size. It had windows on every floor, he couldn’t count them all there were so many! Some windows were covered with curtains, others welcomed the coming night, with the shades drawn back. But a couple were wide open, and Kagome’s scent flew from one of them.
InuYasha tensed up. He was here, but would she want to see him? Was she mad? He could imagine the million "Sits" just waiting for him. He swallowed his fears and leapt at the open window, landing on the ledge which was about three feet from the actual room. Kagome’s not here...but there’s her bag, this is the right spot... InuYasha crept into the cool room with caution. There were two beds inside and a bathroom by the door. A TV was placed on a stand between two dressers opposite the beds and each bed had a lamp hanging over the inner-sides. The room smelled fresh and clean.
After inspecting Kagome’s room, InuYasha emptied the sack, placing all the bundles on the bed closest to the window. He gazed out into the dark sky when the sack was empty. The scent of rain and heavy moisture clung to the air, stronger than before. I think a big storm is on its way. He glanced back at the door, half expecting Kagome to walk in, but no one came. He went over and grabbed the handle, opening it in curiosity. What is this place? There are doors all the way down the hallway, and it’s freezing in here! He gasped silently, a headache threatening to take over at the sight of so many doors.
“InuYasha? How did you get here?” InuYasha nearly shot through the ceiling as Sota’s voice echoed down the hall. “Followed some weird rolling metal thingy.” He managed to spit out as he forced himself to relax. “You mean a car? Hmm, I guess that would work... Hey, why do you look so nervous?” “I’m not nervous! Just...just...” Sota rolled his eyes and pushed pass InuYasha into Kagome’s room.
InuYasha recovered his tongue quickly. “What is this place anyway?” Sota blinked, forgetting InuYasha wasn’t of this world. “Huh? Oh, we’re staying in the hotel for three nights. This is night one, Kagome’s birthday night... Are you looking for her? She’s in that building there across the street, see? The one with all those people gathering at the entrance. Good luck finding her.” Sota pointed out the window and shrugged. He walked over and sat down the bag that was slung over his shoulder. “Sis has been too quiet this week. She’s been very light headed you could say, forgetting everything, like this bag she left in the car for instance. What’s up with her?”
InuYasha shook his head. “N...nothing. Don’t tell her I’m here ok? Or I may just have to kill you.” Sota smiled at the threat, knowing he was only playing. “What ever you say InuYasha, what ever you say.” “I think I’ll explore the place. Smells like the rain is coming, it’s going to be a stormy night.” InuYasha hopped onto the windowsill gazing at the shadows below. It was pitch black outside, the stars hidden by thick clouds filled with moisture. Bright lights shined from the biggest “candles” he had ever seen. How can you contain fire in those glass balls?
Sota left, shutting the door behind him. InuYasha pulled his courage together and vanished under the cover of darkness. He managed to slip inside the building that Sota had pointed out to him unnoticed, his demonic speed too fast for the average human eye. He passed down a wide hallway with people strung all over it, tables with sweets on either side. The hall led to two separate rooms, InuYasha choosing the closest one. Wow, it’s huge! And noisy! What’s with this place? The room was huge, the ceiling arching into an angle at the top with thick wooden beams holding it up...or maybe it was supposed to be the design. Colorful lights flickered all over the walls, but most were at the back where a large group of people flocked around a raised platform. He didn’t know he had found the concert room.
Mulls of people were dancing and laughing, some in pairs or by themselves. It was crazy. Are these people animals or humans? This is a reunion? InuYasha hid up in the rafters, looking down at the new sights and sounds. He was thrilled and amazed at how different Kagome’s world really was. When she had told him about the reunion, he pictured a family gathered outside with a big fire pit and tons of food. Something simple, normal. But this? InuYasha watched as people began pairing off in couples, soft music echoing through the room. Those who were single cleared the floor, settling down on chairs or gathering around tables of food. The smell of sweet wine and strong alcohol mixed with the scent of sweat.
It figures that would be here. I wonder where Kagome’s at...Huh! InuYasha nearly slid off the rafter he was perched on, his eye’s popping out at what he saw right below him. Kagome was talking to a group of friends, laughing and seeming to be having a good time. She was covered with sweat, breathing hard from dancing. What the hell is she wearing! He gulped, blushing head to toe, eyeing every exposed curve of Kagome who just stood there talking as if it were nothing. She was wearing the shortest shorts he had ever seen, the only shorts he had ever seen her in! It was shorter than her school skirt and extremely tight, her rear end almost hanging out. Her hair covered her top, but only for a second as she turned to someone who called her name.
InuYasha was ready to drop dead, expecting to have a stroke or heart attack. Kagome’s shirt, no that was not a shirt, it covered practically nothing! What ever it was, the blood red fabric covered her breasts, which looked like they were ready to fall out, and it thinned out into a tiny strap that tied behind her neck. Another thin strap held the reveling fabric to her body, tying at her back.
That can’t be Kagome! She’s walking around in public dressed like that! And she’s drinking! He spotted a cup in her hand, the smell of alcohol drifting out and towards him. This is a family reunion! Where’s her mother? Sota shouldn’t around this stuff! Neither should Kagome! InuYasha couldn’t rip his eyes off her, she was so attractive. He had never imagined seeing anything like this...it simply wasn’t heard of in his world.
He felt bad, a little dirty and ashamed at himself, but he was hooked, being pulled in, too fast to fight it. His face matched the red of his kimono as he watched this undiscovered Kagome dip down low to the floor, slowly coming up in a sexy, seductive way. The girls around her laughed and cheered her on as a bunch of guys turned to stare at her. It made InuYasha’s blood boil when he saw other males looking at his Kagome as she did this dirty dance. His Kagome... I wish... that were true.
A paper ball suddenly smacked him in the head, startling him out of his trans. He saw Sota who was beckoning to him to follow. InuYasha glanced back to Kagome’s spot, but she was moving on with her surrounding friends to another location, the show over. He shook his head to clear it and hopped down to the floor before thinking first, landing in full view of everyone. He tensed up, expecting screams, none coming. No one noticed him, no one cared, too busy with what ever they were doing to see the odd person with white hair and dog-ears.
“InuYasha, mom wants to see you.” Sota pushed through the crowd and grabbed InuYasha’s sleeve. He led the Half-Demon out and into a smaller, yet just as crowded room. It was filled with older people, probably parents and grandparent trying to escape from the younger, wild people next-door. “Mom, I found him. He found Kagome. I think he’s about ready to pass out or something, look at his face, he’s pale and flushed at the same time.” Kagome’s mother smiled and shooed her son away, motioning InuYasha to join her. He sat down in the chair beside her, too shocked and embarrassed to look at anything but the floor.
“I thought you weren’t going to make it, how did you get here?” She asked kindly. “I...uh, followed a...uh...blue thing, until I caught Kagome’s scent...” He shifted uncomfortably in his chair, feeling eyes on him. It was weird talking to Kagome’s mother, a little scary, not something he liked. “She was disappointed when you didn’t show up.” “Yeah...I got stuck with fighting a Demon...” He told the partial truth. “Why is she dressed like that? She’s drinking and...that’s not the Kagome I know...” He blurted out before he could swallow it. Why did I just tell her that!
Soft laughter startled him into looking up. “InuYasha don’t worry. It’s her birthday, she’s sixteen, I’ll keep an eye on her. Her grandmother sent that out-fit in last week. She’s showing it off because it’s the only time she’ll ever fit into it. Not to mention, Grandma Silica is here, she has to wear it. What do think of it?” InuYasha gulped, refusing spit out the answer as it would have been very inappropriate to say in front of a daughter’s mother.
“Hmm, I take the silence as a complement. So, are you planning to stay here? Or are you dropping something off and exploring before going back? There’s plenty of empty rooms if you want to stay.” “No...I should get going before the storm hits, got stuff to do...” InuYasha thought aloud. “Kagome would want you to stay. You are welcome here InuYasha, just come find me if you change your mind.” An older couple called out to Kagome’s mother who stood and smiled at InuYasha. She knew there was something between her daughter and the Half-Demon, and she only wished for them to be happy. It all reminded her of when she was a young, wild teen, she would never forget those days. “Take care InuYasha.” She patted him on the shoulder and went to meet the waiting couple.
InuYasha watched her disappear in the crowd and got up to leave. As he headed to the door, the sound of rain flooded his ears. He stepped out into the drizzling night and found his way back to Kagome’s hotel room. It was still empty. He curled up on the ledge, allowing the rain to cover him. Should I stay or go back? How do I go back? I never thought about that...looks like I’m stuck here. But wasn’t I planning on staying anyway? Man, Kagome was...stunning. She was almost naked...I bet she’ll slap me if she finds out I was staring at her. At least she’s having a good time.
The drizzling rain began to strengthen, the thin drops growing fatter. InuYasha shoved the window shut, locking himself out on the ledge. The cool water calmed him, cleared his thoughts. A rumble of thunder echoed through the night sky. Great, now there’s lightning. Real smart. He pushed closer to the window, the ledge above him forming a type of cubby hole to shelter him. Just his luck for it to be a thunderstorm.
Shift...
Kagome poured herself a second glass of wine. It was sweet and tangy, filling her insides with a tingling warmth. For some reason, she felt as if she were being watched, but everywhere she looked, there was no culprit. She joined her friends who had arrived an hour ago in Yuka’s new blue car. Hojo was also present and Kagome tried to avoid him as much as possible. Ayume and her two sisters were pointing and giggling at guys they thought were cute, and Kagome joined the game. “Hey, Ayume, he looks cute, go say hi.” She teased her blushing friend. For once she wasn’t the one all red. “Are you crazy? He’s got a girl friend, see? All the good ones are taken.” Kagome sighed in silent agreement. Tell me about it.
“Hey, Kagome, where’s that mysterious boy friend of yours? I thought he was coming. Don’t tell me he dumped you on your birthday!” Yuka gasped as she made her way to Kagome’s side. “No...he had to work and couldn’t get off so...” “Well I say that’s a lame excuse! Listen to me Kagome, let him go, he’s bad for you. Why not Hojo or that guy over there.” Eri pointed to a guy with dark brown hair and waved when he looked up. “I’ll pass.” Kagome smiled and took a long sip from her half-filled cup, making a face at the sour taste, the wine staining her tongue.
“How can people chug this stuff?” She held out the cup. “No more for me. I think I should get going, long day tomorrow.” “What? Kagome, it’s your birthday! You have to stay up and party all night with us, we’ll hook you up with a real hot guy!” Eri jibbed, giving Kagome a sly look. That’s what I am afraid of. “You haven’t even gotten presents or anything!” Yuka grabbed Kagome’s arms who groaned in protest. “Mom said the ‘party’ wouldn’t be till tomorrow afternoon. Tioen can’t get here any sooner, and he’s the one who wants to surprise me. I need my energy, let me go, please. Oh stop with the puppy eyes Ayume, they won’t work this time.” Kagome rolled her eyes, feeling a warm buzz flow through her body. So this was the affects of drinking... “Guys I really wanna go, I’ll see you first thing in the morning, I promise.” She won the argument and retreated from the noisy concert room, her friends giving up and heading in the opposite direction.
“Kagome, are you going back to the hotel? It’s pouring outside, mom said to get an umbrella, here’s your jacket.” Sota came out of nowhere as usual handing her a light jacket and her umbrella. “All right you little spy, I know your mom’s henchman, You’ve been following me all over the place. Something that won’t last long if I have any say in it.” Sota stuck out his tongue and smiled. “At least mom lets you got where ever you want. I have to stay with her most of the time or baby-sit my big sis.” He ducked as Kagome’s hand swung at him. “Well, no more ‘baby-sitting’ tonight squirt, I’m going to take a nice hot shower and crash afterwards. Goodnight.” She slipped into her jacket and headed to the door.
Jeeze! It’s pouring alright! Nasty weather, I should have left sooner. Kagome stepped out into the pounding rain, lifting up her umbrella. She splashed across the flooded street and ran to the protection of the hotel on the other side. Brr. It’s freezing in here. She tugged her jacket close as she walked inside, nodding a greeting to the woman sitting at the front desk. The woman smiled and commented the weather. “We’ve got a bad system coming our way, this is only the beginning.” Kagome made a face at the news. “Looks like I may not get some rest after all.” She walked over to the elevator and pushed the up button. A light ding answered her request and the doors slid open, Kagome stepping inside. She yawned, pushing another button that took her to the fourth floor.
As she waited, it gave her loosened mind time to wander about. He never came for me...I wanted him here, I was going to finally introduce him to Yuka and the others... I miss him...why does it hurt so badly? I didn’t do it, I didn’t want to hurt anyone... She shook her head from the thought of InuYasha, trying to distract her brain on something else. What was the good of thinking about him when you were here to free your mind from that mess? It doesn’t seem to be helping, aside from the wine...I’m surprised mom let me have some, must be one of those trust things. The elevator reached her floor and she hunted down her room hidden somewhere on the long hallway. It took but a second to spot it.
“Ugh, I hate this outfit, it’s so tight, I can’t get the keys out of my pocket...fingers... stuck...ouch...Got ‘em!” She took the keys to her door and sighed with relief at finally being alone. The other two cousins, who ever they were, hadn’t shown up so she had the whole place to herself. First thing’s first. Shower. Kagome tossed her jacket and soaked umbrella by the door and grabbed her bath robe from a stuffed suitcase. It was brand new, a present from Gramps, but she knew her mother had picked it out for him and she was thankful for that.
A clap of thunder echoed outside, drawing her attention to the window. The curtains were open, but the black of night made it impossible to see the angry weather. “Wait a second, didn’t I leave the window open when I left? Hmm, I guess the wind was blowing hard enough to push it shut, or mom was in here and shut it for me.” She shrugged and dismissed the notion, pulling the curtains closed. The pounding rain mixing with continuous growls of thunder filled the empty room with music, something that would put many people to sleep.
Maybe I won’t take a shower, the power might go out or something and I’ll be stuck struggling in the dark. I’ll just go to bed. The rain will knock me out and that will keep me from thinking about InuYasha... She had to wiggle free of her shorts, the tight fabric refusing to release her with out a fight. Why would grandma get me something like this? This is insane. It makes me wonder what she was like at my age. It took her a minute to finish stripping and she threw the cloths with the rest of her stuff. Kagome decided to try out the bathrobe anyway even though there wouldn’t be a shower till morning. The soft material was a welcoming feeling compared to the sausage she had been seconds before.
Suddenly, the lights flickered, followed by a gust of wind that pushed against the window. The unusual weather was beginning to worry her. She walked over to the window and pushed a curtain flap aside, still only seeing black. Then a lightning bolt lit up the sky and Kagome almost fell backwards, stifling a scream. There’s something out there! Someone’s on my window! Wait... that’s impossible, I’m four stories off the ground...Oh my god, don’t tell me he’s out there in the rain! How did he get here? He’ll get sick in this weather! No, maybe it’s not him, it might be a Demon after the shards, maybe it followed me from the Well to here...But if it’s InuYasha... Please let me be right! Kagome crept back to the window and slowly pushed forward on the glass. It was resistant to budge with whoever blocking its way, but it opened the second the stranger realized what was pushing against his back. InuYasha...
Kagome was blasted with cold wind and water. She stared at InuYasha, couldn’t take her stinging eyes off of him, her legs were locked in place. InuYasha stared back, his kimono soaking wet and his hair sticking to his face. His ears twitched as fat raindrops splashed on them, he looked so cold and confused, lonely. Kagome blinked, unable to speak. She grabbed his soaked sleeve and pulled him in, reaching for the window to block out the storm that raged outside. He was dripping, weighed down with tons of rain water. She led him to the bathroom as a puddle of water began forming where he had been standing with a blank look on his face. How did he get here? Why did he come?
Kagome took a towel from the bathroom rack and laid it on the floor, pushing InuYasha to stand on it. She spun him around, trying to think about what to do with him and his wet cloths. She shook her head, finally able to speak again. “What were you doing out in the rain like that? You’re going to get sick, you’re soaked to the bone.” She peeled away his kimono and gasped when the dripping water became stained with blood. “InuYasha, you’re bleeding! What happened?” InuYasha looked down at the cuts on his chest. “Huh?” I don’t remember getting those...must have been from when that Bear Demon slammed me into the tree.
Kagome slung his red kimono over the shower curtain, the white undershirt following beside it. Looks like I’ll have to get mom wash out the stains again. She turned back to him, trying to hide the sadness she knew was clouding her eyes. He ran off and now he’s here, looking so pitiful. Why was he out in this weather on my window ledge? He’s got to be cold...I don’t have anything to lend him...How am I supposed to dry him out?
She saw InuYasha wince as a water droplet dripped onto his wound. “Here.” Kagome rummaged through a small bag sitting on the sink and found some soothing ointments and a couple band-aids. She wiped away the blood and water and dabbed on the cream. “I see goose bumps...you need to get out of the rest of those wet cloths...uh...but I don’t have anything to give you...” She blushed at the thought of what lay hidden beneath the soaked pants and turned her head away. She spotted a towel and grabbed it. “This will have to do...” She handed it to him and left the bathroom, shutting the door behind her.
She heard the squish of soppy cloth hitting the floor. A minute later, InuYasha came out blushing, wishing he had someplace to hide as the Miko stared at him. Kagome pointed to the closest bed and look away again, even though she wanted very much to peek. InuYasha dove to the bed and pulled the covers around him. He shivered a bit, waiting for the blankets to absorb his body heat. Kagome walked over and sat on the corner of his bed, blushing redder than before. “You’re hair’s still wet.” “It’ll dry soon enough...” InuYasha felt odd and uncomfortable. He breathed in Kagome’s wonderful scent, smelling her arousal... She was roused by him? No, his nose was only playing with him...but the trick was growing stronger...maybe she really was aroused...
Kagome twisted around and faced him, then looked down at the covers. “Why did you come?” InuYasha looked across to her bed seeing the presents untouched. “Kaede told me to bring those to you...I followed a...” He couldn’t think of what to call the thing he had followed. “You followed a car? I never thought of that. What did she tell you to...” Kagome followed InuYasha’s finger to her bed and saw the bundles for the first time.
“Oh! I didn’t see those...” She got up and poked the cloth bundles, guessing at what was beneath each one. She glanced at InuYasha, seeing that he wanted to be next to her when she discovered what lay inside them. Gently, Kagome gathered what she could and brought them over to InuYasha’s side. She went back to grab the last two things, one a fat bundle and the other suspiciously long, curving at the ends. She decided to peek at that one last; it seemed special for some reason.
InuYasha moved uneasily as Kagome put down his gift with the others. He watched as she settled beside him and picked up the flattest bundle. She pulled away the string and freed the parcel from its bindings, laughing when she discovered what it was. “Oh, it’s adorable!” Kagome held up a drawing from Shippo and giggled. The picture showed Kagome on a mountain with Shippo smiling on her shoulder and InuYasha flat on the ground from being ‘Sat’ a hundred times. InuYasha rolled his eyes and made a silent promise to flatten the Kitsune when he got back. “You have to admit it’s cute!” Kagome smiled, handing the drawing to him. At least she’s happy and not crying. That’s all I care about.
He waited as she unwrapped Kaede’s present hearing a gasp escape her. “She...how did she know I was looking at that? That’s expensive material! I can’t believe her!” Kagome pulled the cloth free and got up to see it in length. “It’s gorgeous!” InuYasha eyed Kagome as she held the dress to her, the bottom almost touching the floor. He could just imagine her wearing it; it would show every curve of her body... It didn’t look anything like they both expected it to look. The fashion wasn’t in the Feudal Era style that was so commonly seen there. Instead the fabric had been sewn like a light spring gown, the top having no sleeves and tying behind the neck. The creamy silk shimmered in the dim light as it swayed back and forth from Kagome’s movements. “I’ve got to thank her! I can’t believe this...” “Looks nice.” InuYasha complemented, rewarded by a blush from Kagome. Since when does he complement me on anything?
Kagome dug out a hanger from the closet and hung up the dress, afraid to wrinkle it. “I’ll wear it tomorrow and surprise mom.” She went to work, opening the next two bundles, one from Sango and the other from Miroku. Sango had given her a necklace, filled with colorful charm beads. The gleaming stones were mixtures of light greens, blues, and purples. Miroku’s gift made Kagome laugh as she looked at it, pulling a bunch of Demon Wards from a red pouch. “I think Gramps will have fun with these.” InuYasha twitched at seeing the Wards, having been trapped in one before, not wanting that to happen again. “I doubt they work anyway.”
Kagome tossed them by the bed and eyed what was left. InuYasha gulped, wanting to run, his instincts screaming to bolt. But it was too late, Kagome had a hold of his present and was pulling away the strings. She freed the bindings and froze as the cloth slipped off and fell to the floor. InuYasha held his breath, wanting to die and disappear. Kagome was speechless. She ran a finger over the smooth wood and shuttered as she felt a strange energy flow through her. “You...made...this...?” InuYasha nodded slowly, looking down at the bed sheets, blushing.
Kagome held the bow up and pulled the string, feeling the strong, tight line protest at her command. The string was new, perfect. She ran her hand along the wood and stared at the engravings of the Shikon Jewel and a bird in flight at the top. She couldn’t imagine how much care and thought had been put into it. “InuYasha...” Kagome felt tears spring up and she did nothing to hold them back. He’s been working on this the whole time...I feel like such a fool...
InuYasha was startled by the smell of salt. She’s crying. Damn it! I didn’t want to hurt her again! I can never do anything right... “Kagome don’t cry, I didn’t mean to hurt you! If you don’t like it, I’ll throw it out and-” He was cut off in shock as Kagome suddenly clung to him, sobbing and shaking her head. He unconsciously wrapped his arms around her, her hot tears streaming down his chest. Why is she crying? He held her close, not knowing what to do and let her cry herself out.
Finally Kagome silenced her sobs but refused to let him go. InuYasha could pick up all kinds of emotions as her scent continued changing. Kagome managed to clear her throat and loosened her hold around him, sniffling. “You didn’t do anything wrong. I cried because you were so thoughtful, it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen...aside from you... I thought you left, that you hated me because you thought I killed Kikyo. I thought I’d never see you again.” Kagome sniffled and hiccupped. InuYasha sighed, relieved he wasn’t the one at fault. He had to reassure her that he didn’t hate her, that he wasn’t going to leave her side. He pushed her chin up so he could look at her and wiped away her tears. “I couldn’t leave you Kagome. I need you, I’m only alive because of you. You gave me a second chance to start over...” Start over. Yes. I want to start over, with Kagome right here with me.
Kagome stiffened and pulled away from him, new tears forming to replace the old ones. “Those are only words. When we go back, you’ll act as if this was a dream, like last time. You hide from everyone, including me, and treat me like dirt. You say I’m stupid and I slow you down and get in the way. One minute you’re a jerk and the next you act like this. Stop playing with me. It hurts!” She tried to hold back the sobs as she spoke. It had to be said, even if it meant hurting him. But she told the truth, what was ripping her heart in two. He had to know. She had to know. They had to confront their problems, secrets, get them out in the open.
InuYasha couldn’t find words to say. What she had said shocked him. Hiding? She said he was hiding from her. He called her names and dragged her down with his pride and stupidity. What could you say to that? Tell her the truth...I have to. I hurt her, I am responsible. I have to fix it. He took a deep breath, trying to put the words together. “It’s the only thing I know how to do...” InuYasha said barely above a whisper. Kagome sat at the edge of the bed with her eyes close, listening. “Know how to do what?” She prodded in the same whispery tone. “Hiding. That’s what I’ve done all my life. The only thing that kept me alive was to hide from Demons, from humans, from everyone. Then one day something happened, and I came out from hiding, just a little bit, but it was enough. Now I see what a mistake that was. So when you came and freed me, I went back to what was safe, what I knew. To hide. But…I don’t want to hide...not from you...”
He was deep in his thought’s which he spoke aloud, not seeing Kagome come around and sit beside him. He flinched when Kagome put a soft hand on his cheek, startling him. “Then just don’t hide.” She breathed softly. InuYasha was afraid to look at her. Why was he so hesitant? He wasn’t when he had kissed her under the tree, nor did he hesitate when she had teased him that same night on the couch. Maybe it was because she had forced him to think of the past. Yes, that had to be it. It all revolved around one thing, like Kimi had told her. Trust. He was afraid to trust again.
InuYasha forced his eyes to look up at Kagome. He felt ill and excited at the same time, his emotions confusing him. He longed to kiss her, the woman sitting beside him with soft eyes. So why not just do it? She liked it before...I think... The skin under Kagome’s soothing hand was beginning to burn, desire filling his veins. He moved to kiss her, hesitating for a second until Kagome closed the distance. His lips joined with hers in a soft, sweet kiss, warming both their bodies to the core. Kagome felt him pull away, his hot breath mixing with hers as they were only millimeters apart. She blushed, staring up at him, forgetting that her hand was still on his cheek.
She unconsciously reached up to touch his face, running a finger down his nose and stopping at his moist lips. He kissed the tips of her fingers lightly and then moved back to her waiting mouth, licking her lips for entrance, taking his chances. Kagome opened up willingly, feeling the tickle of his exploring tongue. InuYasha could smell her arousal as he began battling for domination of her sweet crevasse, winning all but one of them. He continued to kiss her, Kagome returning every one and begging for more.
He soon grew bored with just kissing and started to work his way down to her neck, but was forced to stop when he saw that most of her delicious skin was covered by the robe she wore. Kagome’s blush deepened as she realized why he had suddenly stopped his kissing decent. Her body thrummed with longing, wanting to feel his hands caress her bare skin, wanting to feel his mouth on her. She shyly pulled the sash that held the robe to her body. The fabric sagged from her movements and her shoulders slid into view, pleasing InuYasha who was blushing at the thought of seeing her naked. He was aching to touch her, taste her.
His hands pulled Kagome to straddle him, surprised to find out that she had nothing on underneath the sagging robe. The towel that she had given him had fallen off under the ring of sheets that covered him from the waist down. He groaned in pain as he felt himself harden. Kagome felt it too and an instant throb sprung up between her legs. It was a new feeling, something she wanted more of.
InuYasha began to kiss her again, starting from the lips and working his way down her neck. He nipped her tender flesh and licked away the red marks that formed from his fangs. Kagome gasped at the feeling and a shudder ran down her spine. She started her own teasing, caressing his chest, one hand entangling in his long, silvery hair. InuYasha suddenly slipped his own hand inside her robe, running blindly over her curves. He used the other hand to remove the restraining fabric and tossed it aside to feast on his prize. He silenced Kagome’s gasps of surprise with more kisses. His fears and shyness were overthrown by the powerful lust that was consuming him.
Kagome clung to him as he wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled the sheets back, away from both of them. He laid her gently on the bed, trying to keep in control of himself. He took a minute to gaze at her exposed body, eyeing every curve she had. Her scent was intoxicating, like an addictive drug. “Kagome...” He whispered her name and kissed her deeply, rewarded with a moan that escaped her as his hand slid down to capture a creamy breast.
Kagome’s mind reeled as he stroked it into hardness, her body aching for attention. InuYasha released her lips and found the pebbling nipple, latching on to it, stroking it with his tongue. Kagome gave another moan and squirmed beneath him as he bit and suckled her captive breast. She felt his hand knead her other breast and seconds later he was torturing that one with his tongue and teeth. She ensnared her fingers in his hair again, massaging the base of his ears, gasping out when he bit down on the tender flesh of her nipple, swollen from its abuse. InuYasha was pleased with her reaction, feeling her body shudder beneath him. He unlatched from her breast and made his way lower, to her womanhood, pulling her legs apart for access.
Kagome threw her head back in a silent scream when he reached her womanhood, feeling his fingers slid between her folds of slick flesh, his rough tongue flicking across her jewel. She grabbed at the bed and her back arched up, all the while gasping and moaning as pleasure exploded through out her body. InuYasha lapped up her juices, becoming drunk from her toxic scent. His manhood stiffened from Kagome’s moans and pleas for more and he couldn’t take it anymore.
He positioned himself over her and slowly entered her. He felt the resistance of her maidenhead and pulled back and thrust in, breaking it as gently as he could. Kagome cried out and grabbed at his back in pain, digging her stubby nails into his shoulders. InuYasha held still, feeling bad at causing her pain and kissed her reassurances, whispering her name soothingly.
Kagome’s body trembled beneath him, her pain ebbing, and her hands slid free from his shoulders. She nudged him to continue, pain replaced with a new sensational pleasure. He started out in slow rhythms, forcing himself to stay in control of his lust, and was rewarded with a moan.
Kagome found it hard to keep quiet as InuYasha filled her, thrusting deep inside her. She wanted to cry as the pleasure built up at every passing second, almost too much to handle. InuYasha increased his speed, Kagome’s moans growing with each thrust. She clung to him, her breathing now gasping pants, echoing his. She arched up into him as he grabbed her hands and pinned them over her head to give him full control. InuYasha had the urge to bite, wanted to sink his fangs into something, anything. Kagome, he had to claim her, let others know she was his. But not yet, a few minutes more and then he would do it.
He was blind with lust as he felt himself speeding to the edge. Kagome was already reaching her climax and he thrust faster, coming into his. Kagome’s body suddenly gave out, she couldn’t hold back any longer and she cried out from her climax and from the pain that followed on the side of her neck. InuYasha had his fangs imbedded deep in the crook of her neck as he too reached climax, spilling his seed into her, the Demon part of him laying all claims to her, his Kagome. He released her neck, panting and lapped up the blood that flowed from the wound.
Kagome was limp under him, gasping for breath, too numb and exhausted to feel anything. He could hear her heart racing as he tasted her blood and sweat. He gathered the strength to lift off her and collapsed beside her, pulling her to him. He kissed her and reached for the blankets kicked to the end of the bed. Kagome’s breathing faded to a normal pace and she curled up against him, her breath caressing his damp chest. That’s all either one of them could remember as sleep overtook them, no words spoken.
