It was the final battle. That thought ran through all their minds. They had been fighting for what seemed like ages but in actuality had only been an hour. Both sides were equals, causing a stand off.

Nuraku herd the whistle of an arrow fly past his ear, turning just in time to see it split the castle door behind him. His eyes narrowed and shot back to Kagome, a smirk across her face. He whispered words to Kanna and Kagura, and evil laugh bubbling forth over Kagura's lips. Kanna had already disappeared.

By now Kagome had readied another arrow taking aim before she felt a spike in Nuraku's aura. The dead miko that had joined their group a few months earlier stood beside Nuraku against her will, Kanna holding her soul-sucking mirror towards Kikyo, daring anyone to try and save her.

The sudden outcome distracted Kagome, but only for a moment. And a moment was all Kagura needed. Kagura's ice-cold hands wrapped around Kagome's arms, pulling her towards her. The metal fan in Kagura's hand found its way to the softy ivory skin of Kagome's neck.

“The choice is yours InuYasha,” Nuraku spat out venomously. Everyone understood his words perfectly.

“If you kill Kanna then Kagura will be compelled to avenge the young girl by killing Kagome. If you kill Kagura, then I'm afraid little Kanna here will have to suck your dead wench dry of all her souls.” Nuraku's eyes locked with the solid golden orbs that were InuYasha's. “Chose now, or loose them both forever.”

InuYasha's hands clenched at his sides, his claws biting the smooth skin of his palm. “How can you ask me to choose?! Its not that simple!”

“Never said it was,” Nuraku smirked. “But so be it, I guess they must both die.” He raised his hand as a signal to Kanna and Kagura.

Kagura's fan pressed harder against Kagome's neck, causing a small trail of blood to flow over her skin and down her chest. Kanna's mirror took quiet a few souls from Kikyo's body, causing the dead miko to fall to her knees from lack of strength.

“Wait!” InuYasha's mournful voice called out. His eyes were cast towards the ground and his hands now covered the handle of his sword. His voice was barley over a whisper, floating gently into awaiting ears. “I'm sorry Kagome…..but I made a promise I cannot break.”

Tears fell to the ground. That of InuYasha's and everyone else's, as he plunged the blade of his sword into Kanna, killing her instantly, setting Kikyo free.

InuYasha turned his sad gaze to where he knew Kagome's lifeless body would lay but was surprised to see Kagome still alive, and Kagura making no move to kill her.

Kagome's aura expanded around her in a pinkish glow as she closed her eyes. A single tear running down her rosy cheek.

“What sorcery is this?!?!” Kagura hissed out. She couldn't move, couldn't slice the neck of the bitch that was the only thing standing between her and her freedom from Nuraku's grasp.

The pink hue around them suddenly became dark and red, as if blood had been poured into the concoction. It expanded further, surrounding the entire battlefield. Time seemed to stop. The only sound was a whisper carried on the wind.

“Love will set you free.”

With that the light became so bright that the entire group had to shield their eyes from it. When they were finally opened, Nuraku lay dead along with all his minions. His castle in ruins.

And there amongst the bloody corpses and broken building stood Kagome, her eyes still closed as she slowly fell to her knees.

Before the miko, Sango opened her eyes to find herself in the arms of her hoshi-sama who was smiling down at her. Shippo awoke with Kilala and Kikyo was to be found in InuYasha's arms. Silence filled the area.

“…What…the hell….was that?!?!” InuYasha questioned loudly, breaking everyone from their quiet trance.

Sango stood, walking slowly toward Kagome. Faster upon seeing her friends body rake with small sobs. “It was….her pain.”

InuYasha's eyes softened a great deal as he watched the young girl, her shoulder shaking slightly, her head down, eyes covered by bangs. In her hand the completed jewel. His eyes widened slightly when she lifted her face to look at Sango, just now noticing the changes that had taken place to her.

Kagome now had marks of a demon trailing down her face and neck. Her eyes had turned almost black, nut still held a slight hue of that chocolate brown that they had once been. Her ebony hair seemed thicker, and reached down past her back, about to her knees. In the place of normal fingernails she had sharp claws, much like InuYasha's. The jewel slowly seeped into her palm until disappearing completely.

“What happened to you?” Sango asked softly.

“In order to do that….to have enough power to do that. I had to be demon. I made the wish subconsciously. But I can control this form.” She spoke. At the last statement Kagome's body shifted back into its regular form.

InuYasha took a brave step forward, reaching his hand out to her.

Kagome quickly stood, taking a step back. A step away from him.

“Kago--”

“Don't you think you've caused enough damage, InuYasha,” Sango spoke in a low tone.

“I would have to agree with her in this case.” Miroku called from his spot in his formal, flat tone.

“No you guys, its alright,” Kagome stated while placing a hollow smile across her lips. “I understand InuYasha. You did make a promise after all, and I for one don't believe in breaking them!”

InuYasha's eyes softened, knowing that the smile she wore was a fake, that this was all just an act she was playing. “Kagome….”

Kagome's eyes floated down to the ground, a few tears rolling down the soft white of her cheeks, hitting the bloodied ground below her. “I hope you are happy through out your life InuYasha.”

The next thing he saw was Kagome's back as she took off into the crisp forest. He shifted as though getting ready to chase after her when Sango placed a gentle hand on his shoulder.

“Let her go. She'll come back to us when she is ready. And besides, she said so herself, only love can set her free now.”

She came to a stop at a small clearing in the woods and stood, closing her eyes and taking a few deep breaths, only to jump at the feel of two small arms wrap around her knees and a face nuzzle against her legs.

“Kagome-sama!”

 

Kikyo: Oh INUYASH! I always knew you'd still pick me over that whench

The vein on Kats forehead looks ready to burst.

Inuyasha: Actually I still love Kagome, but she's the writer.

Miroku: Don't worry Kikyo I'LL keep you company ^_^

Sango's eyes fill with tears as she turns and runs into the forest.

Miroku's eyes widen.

Miroku: Sango!

Kat hits Miroku upside the head.

Kat: Now look what you've done. Screwed up my favorite couple YOU TWO!

Miroku: glares at Kat and here I thought that—

Kat: clamps hands over Miroku's moth shhhhhhhhhh they don't know that yet -points at readers-

Kikyo rolls her eyes

Kat uses her flame thrower to kill the bitch

Shippo: She lights up like a candle!
Kat: Well until next time! Over and out!
