The Flight
Kagome sat next to her mom; they were waiting for her dad to finish up his conversation on his cell phone.
She just had a few minutes until she had to board her plane.
"Mom?" Kagome whispered hesitantly.
Mrs. Kyoto was trying her hardest not to let her tears fall, "what is it honey?"
"…it's about college…" Kagome said lowly, looking at her lap.
`Finally,' Kagome's mom thought going from weepy to slightly exasperated at how long it had taken her daughter to broach this subject.
"I'm listening, young lady," she replied out loud instead.
Kagome knew that tone!
"…who told you?" slowly she began to edge away from her mom.
Smiling gently, Mrs. Kyoto reached out and wrapped her arm around her daughter's shoulder comfortingly, "Kent…and Lisa…"
"You're not mad at me for not saying anything sooner?" Kagome asked softly, a slight sheen of tears in her eyes.
Mrs. Kyoto gave a little laugh, "sometimes you still act like you ten years old!"
Kagome blushed slightly, "I just didn't want you to feel like I let you guys down…"
"NEVER!" Her mom told her fervently, "we will NEVER feel that way about you!"
Kagome swiped at her eyes, erasing all traces of tears from her face, "I'm the luckiest girl alive to have parents like you!"
"YES YOU ARE!" Kagome's father bellowed, surprising his wife and daughter and a few people who turned to watch who was being so loud.
"Dad!" Kagome hissed softly, blushing and smiling all at the same time.
Her father merely pulled her into a bear hug like he used to when she was younger.
"NOW BOARDING FLIGHT NUMBER 6669…FIRST CLASS…" came a monotone voice over the airport intercom.
"Honey…that's you…" Mrs. Kyoto said softly trying to hold back tears of her own as she looked into her daughters moist eyes.
It was going to be the first time since Kagome was going to be away from them for a long length of time.
Standing with her as she awaited her turn to board the plane her parents where giving her last minute instructions, "don't forget to call as soon as you arrive in Tokyo, ok?"
Kagome nodded at her dad.
"Here's a little something I got for you…" Kagome's mom smiled handing her daughter a credit card, "your credit limit is $5000, but I'd prefer if you use it for emergencies only."
Kagome's eyes widened in shock, "$5000 U.S?!"
Nodding Mrs. Kyoto gave her daughter one final hug and kiss on her cheek and gave her a tiny push towards the boarding door, "we're going to miss you! We love you very much!"
Slightly misty eyed, Kagome blew her parents a kiss and handed her ticket to the attendant, getting ready to commence her long journey to Tokyo Japan.
Kagome frowned glancing at her watch; they had been stuck in Hawaii International Airport for the past four hours.
Everyone had been onboard and ready to go after the first lay over flight in Hawaii when the captain had informed them that there were some mechanical problems with the starter.
They had sent for a mechanic and electrician, who had informed the captain that the repairs should be no more than fifteen minutes.
As the repairs had gotten under way, one problem on top of another had arisen.
Kagome had been getting restless and fidgety, so she had asked one of the stewards when they would be getting lunch because it was getting close to lunch time.
The steward had informed her, a touch rudely that they were working on getting brochures for everyone for lunch at one of the restaurants.
That had been a long while ago and now it was nearing time for dinner and the other passengers were becoming quite vocal in their displeasure.
Kagome laughed softly as one of the younger more ghetto groups of friends demanded to know what the fuck was going on, totally flustering the attendants.
When no one could provide them with the answers they wanted they became even more vocal, causing security to come over.
She had had enough of that pompous security officer who was trying to belittle the group.
"They are right, it's been almost five hours since we've been here and no one can tell us anything!" Kagome jumped up to defend them, ignoring the way her head started to spin at her sudden movement.
"Yes, she's right! With the amount of money we paid for this flight, we should know what is going on already," some strange man with startlingly blue eyes and a pony tail interrupted the security guard when he would have opened his mouth.
Kagome gave him a friendly smile that became a full-blown laugh when all the other passengers made their displeasure heard.
One of the smarter attendants looked at the crowd and hurriedly called the PR, "I think you had better get down here or we are going to have one angry mob on our hands!"
Ten minutes later a distinguished woman came towards the angry passengers.
"May I have everyone's attention…" the lady stated calmly, a friendly smile on her face.
The grumbling and the muttering lessened slightly.
"We're listening," came a very irritated voice.
Heads nodded in agreement, motioning for the lady to continue her speech.
"I'm sorry that you have been here for such a long time with no information forth coming, the usual wait time here is two hours." She stopped speaking as her information sank in causing the passengers to become even more upset.
The lady waited until they had settled down to grumbling once more.
"After those two hours," she continued where she had stopped, "you are usually given the opportunity to select weather you would like to go on stand by, or stay over night, complements of Delta Air Lines," she told them coolly, "just get your brochures from the attendants and a shuttle will be out front to take you to the hotel."
Kagome was first in line, followed closely by the group of friends.
She looked down at the brochure fully expecting some cheap motel, but was shocked to find that they were staying at the Radisson Hotel.
Brochure in hand, she headed towards the entrance of the Airport where the shuttle would be waiting for them.
"Hey are you ok, Kagome?" some one asked softly.
Kagome gave a little start; she didn't know anyone on this flight.
Turning towards the voice, "sorry…do I know you from somewhere?"
The girl grinned wickedly, "we played against each other in the Finals."
Kagome's jaw dropped, "you're from-?!"
"…mmm…" the girl nodded.
Kagome gave the girl, Teela, a huge smile, joining her and her friends at the back of the shuttle.
"What are you guys going to be doing in Japan?" Kagome asked, smiling her thanks as one of the guys offered her some cookies.
"Sight seeing!" came one excited voice.
"Hentai collection!" could be heard from all the males.
"Shopping!" a few girls chime together.
"Actually I want to fuck one of those high school chicks," the captain of the volleyball team, Adam, informed the group, getting a few murmurs of agreement from the guys.
Teela rolled her eyes, smacking said captain harshly across his head.
Everyone burst out laughing.
"Actually," Teela told Kagome softly when her own chuckles had wound down, "I'm thinking about attending college in Japan."
"Really?" Kagome asked slightly intrigued, "isn't it more expensive?"
Teela shook her head, "no, it's actually a little cheaper than you would think."
Kagome nodded, filing this bit of information away incase she could use it.
They arrived at the Hotel a short while later.
While they were checking in for their rooms, they were informed that the shuttle would be back at 8:00 am to collect them.
Their new flight would be departing at 9:55 am that morning.
Heading off to her room, she bade her new friends good night.
She was surprisingly exhausted; all she could think of was sleeping.
Taking a quick shower, she chose what she would wear on the morrow; setting her watch's alarm for 7:30 am she crawled in bed.
`Damn,' Kagome thought, just before sleep fully claimed her, `I need to call my mom…tomorrow…I'll do it tomorrow…'
She yawned once before she drifted off completely.
Dee dee dit…dee dee dit…dee dee dit…
Kagome groaned as she hit the alarm button on her watch, silencing the annoying sound.
"Just five more minutes…" Kagome mumbled inaudibly going back to sleep.
It felt like she had just closed her eyes when some one knocked loudly on her door.
"KAGOME!" came a slightly muffled voice.
"…I'm coming…" Kagome whimpered, she felt like crap.
"Come on the bus is gonna be here in ten minutes!" Teela informed her, barging into Kagome's room as soon as the door was opened.
Kagome was snapped out of her misery, "WHAT!!"
Dressing in record speed, ignoring her sick feeling, she followed Teela to the breakfast room.
The sight and smell of the food had Kagome placing one hand over her mouth and the other over her queasy stomach.
"I think I'll pass…" Kagome mumbled around her hand.
Teela raised a brow, "grab some fruit or something, you'll be hungry later!"
"…fruit…sounds good," Kagome grabbed some fruits and crackers.
After checking in at the airport everyone sat around chatting, eagerly awaiting the boarding call.
Walking over to the group of guys, Kagome watched as Teela straddled Adam's lap, earning a few knowing snickers from their friends.
"Guess she forgave him about the high school chick crap," one of the girls muttered a sly look on her face.
Kagome gave a little sigh of envy and went off to sit by herself.
Seeing Teela like that with her boyfriend made her think about Sesshoumaru.
`I wonder if he'll be happy to see me?' she asked herself, `or will he tell me I'm a fool for coming to Japan to see him.'
She was hoping against hope that it was not the latter.
Kagome chewed on her nail in agitation. There was something she had forgotten to do but she just could not put her finger on it.
Shrugging slightly, she went back to thinking about Sesshoumaru when the intercom interrupted her thoughts.
"Now boarding flight number 6673…first class and business now boarding!" came a very excited voice over the airports intercom.
Standing, Kagome made her way to the line, looking over at Teela and feeling herself becoming slightly depressed when she noticed that they were locked into a heated embrace, oblivious to the world.
