Manifestation of the Inuyasha Doll
chapter four
Accusations
"Has he eaten anything lately that might have caused him these constant stomach pains and the plant growth?" the nurse asked, as she jotted down notes on her clipboard.
"No, we just had a normal dinner. Nothing out of the ordinary," Mrs. Higurashi replied nervously, twining and untwining her fingers. "Is he going to be all right?"
"Oh, I'm not sure ma'am. You should ask your doctor--Doctor Kobayashi. He'll know what what the prognosis is."
Mrs. Higurashi watched as the nurse went over to Souta's bed holding a small tube of pills.
"What's that for Miss?" she asked. "I don't want you sticking anything inside my son unless I know for sure what it is--"
She was a pretty nurse, Kagome noted, but looks a bit of a ditz with her curly black hair and gum in her mouth. Kagome watched the piece of gum in her mouth going up and down in a rhythm in sync with her chewing noises.
"I was just about to tell you what it is Mrs. Higurashi," the nurse defended. "This is used as a sort of retardant so the plant wouldn't grow anymore and cause any more internal damage."
"ANYMORE INTERNAL DAMAGE?! What is that supposed to mean?" Mrs. Higurashi shouted.
"Oh, don't worry ma'am--"
"Oh I'm not worried. You're the one who should be worried--"
Kagome grabbed her mother's arm in restraint as the nurse bolted out of the room in fear. "Mama stop it! That was the third nurse you scared away!"
"We'll it's not my fault they aren't doing their job," Mrs. Higurashi pouted as she looked over at her pained son.
Kagome glared daggers at Inuyasha, but he didn't notice, her seeing as he was preoccupied with an empty syringe. He filled it with water and pushed the end, squirting water in his face. "Aw fuck!"
Kagome rolled her eyes and darted out of the room. She didn't know what to feel anymore. Currently she wanted to cry out of anger because this time Mr. Jerk had gone way too far. She heard a familiar voice behind her.
"Where are you going bitch?" He wiped his wet face with his sleeve.
"Away from you, JERK!" Kagome shouted, as she ran down the hall. She hoped he couldn't see the tears falling to the ground. She hated the idea of crying in front of him. He'd call her a wimp and a big baby.
She thought he had stopped following her until she felt a hand fall to her shoulder.
"Stop crying," he simply said, his voice a little kinder. Kagome yanked his hand off of her shoulder and proceeded to get away from him, only this time she speed walked. "Kagome dammit! Don't cry!"
"I'll cry if I want to!" she yelled back acrimoniously. "It's all your fault!"
An elderly couple watched as Inuyasha continued to pursue Kagome who only slapped his hand off of her shoulder.
"That's what she gets for not using protection," the old lady whispered to her companion. He nodded in agreement.
Inuyasha turned his head and stared at the couple. The looked back at him with large, scrutinizing eyes. Inuyasha shook his head and ran after Kagome.
"Will you listen for just a moment?" Inuyasha said just as Kagome stepped out of the hospital. He turned her around to face him.
"Why? Are you going to play one of your little tricks on me again? Or maybe my mother this time, if you're getting bored with my brother!?" she replied mockingly.
"No. I just want you to stop fucking crying!"
"I'll cry all I want!" Kagome attempted to shout, but her voice had cracked. She began to sob uncontrollably. Inuyasha watched helplessly. He hated the fact that women cried. Especially if he was the one who had caused it.
"Look, I'll fix your damn brother okay?"
"No, I hate you! I wish I never took off that arrow! I wish you were still a damn doll! I wish I never met you Inuyasha!" With that, she stormed back into the hospital, wiping her eyes all the while with her sleeves.
That was harsh. Inuyasha looked back at her bitterly. No...it wasn't his fault. He tried to apologize but she wouldn't listen. It was her own fault that she wouldn't hear him out and let him help her. This was all her fault...yup...
Then why did he feel so guilty?
****
Kagome entered the room and noticed that Mama had gone to sleep right next to Souta. The cell phone was turned on and she could hear the familiar snoring of her grandfather on the other line. The lights had been dimmed and Souta was also asleep. At least the retardant helped him feel better.
As she sat, the door suddenly opened and a familiar stranger walked in. She stood as he walked in.
"Hello, I'm Dr. Kouga Kobayashi. Where is the patient?" he asked. Kagome still watched in confusion, unable to say anything as he walked over to Souta's bed and began examining the sleeping figure. He was that strange young man who examined her at the store yesterday. (No pun intended.) "Did the retardant help much?"
She regained her composure and nodded vigorously. "Yes. In fact he started sleeping a couple minutes ago."
She looked back at the door and noticed Inuyasha's eyes peering through the little window in the door. She turned back to the doctor, scoffing.
"Is something the matter?" Dr. Kobayashi asked.
"No, I'm sorry. It's just that I had a fight with someone."
The doctor smirked. "A boyfriend perhaps?"
"No, I don't have a boyfriend. And if I did, he wouldn't be like that jerk," Kagome replied, folding her arms as she watched Dr. Kobayashi take a thermometer out of Souta's mouth.
"Ah well. I would have thought you did. You're quite pretty." Kagome blushed at the comment. She had been so accustomed to hearing Inuyasha call her a "degrading cow," or a "gorilla--but smaller," that she forgot that compliments really existed in this world. She muttered a small thank you. In fact, she was really flattered.
"I had a nurse take an x-ray of your brother earlier. It'll return in a couple hours. But...in the meantime, while everyone is still asleep, would you like to get some coffee with me?" Dr. Kobayashi asked.
"Um...sure Dr. Kobayashi."
"No," he said softly, lifting a hand as if to stop her. "Call me Kouga."
"O-okay, Kouga," she said with a smile. He was actually really cute. The two exited the room silently and headed to the hospital cafeteria.
As Kagome exited the room, an arm grabbed her and shut her mouth. She felt herself pulled into a dark room.
"Smmhf!! Hngmnahhh!!" Kagome screamed against the figure's hands.
"Shhh, you idiot! He'll hear," the familiar sardonic voice of Inuyasha replied. He removed his hands from her face.
"What do you think you're doing?" she asked, pushing him away.
"I'm warning you."
"About what?" she asked impatiently.
"I'm warning you about that guy you're with...he's a spy."
"What!? Inuyasha, I don't know what the hell you're talking about, he's a doctor--"
"He's posing as a doctor. Maybe he really is somewhere, but he's a spy for...him."
"Inuyasha, you're acting like a five-year-old and you're supposed to be 500. I don't get--"
"Just hear me out okay? He's a spy for Naraku. Naraku is the man who caused this entire thing between me and Kikyou. He's been trying to track me down and destroy me... I remember sensing his youki. He's alive I know it--but anyways, he's trying to find the Shikon no tama, then destroy the reincarnation who inherited it."
"Wait, wait, wait just a minute! Who's Kikyou? And can you explain to me clearly who Naraku is?"
"Just believe me--"
"Inuyasha, you're not making any sense!"
"What doesn't make sense? Kouga's an evil bastard who should be kicked, and Naraku is like a god...well like an evil, conniving god who's sought out to have world domination."
"And Kikyou?"
"I don't want to talk about her."
"Fine, then how can I help you?"
"Just don't have coffee with that bastard."
Kagome looked at him thoughtfully. "Oh!! So you're Dog-boy!" Kagome said, remembering what Kouga had said at the store.
"Get out," he said.
Kagome quickly went out and found Kouga searching for her. He saw her and smiled, his expression confused for a second.
"Where were...you?"
"I was...at the bathroom," Kagome replied.
"Oh. Well, how about for some coffee now?"
"Sure," Kagome said, despite what Inuyasha told her. She really didn't do this just to spite Inuyasha, but she also wanted to know more about this guy.
The two ordered and sat down. Kagome watched him as he sipped his drink.
"Can I ask you a question?" she asked.
"You already did," he replied.
"Can I ask you another question after I ask this one?"
"Smart girl. Shoot."
Kagome smiled. "I met you at the Shizuma Kottouhinten. You asked me about my last name then you said you finally found it. What's 'it'?"
Well, Kouga was a pretty smart spy for not hesitating, but his reply really didn't answer most of the questions she had in her head.
"I meant I found your family. Your mother called earlier and gave me a job as a personal doctor for your brother Souta who'd been having some strange things happen to his body. "
Then the question she wanted to ask next was actually answered as if he knew she was going to ask it.
"Oh, and Dog-boy? That's your grandfather. He's an old friend of mine."
So he knew Grandpa...okay, maybe this is another one of Inuyasha's little tricks so I wouldn't go out with cute boys like Kouga, Kagome cogitated. By now, she lost all trust in Inuyasha. She didn't care what things he told her. He was a lying bastard.
She smiled up at Kouga and took a sip of her coffee. "This is good."
****
Kagome didn't listen to him despite his warnings. He sighed. Well, she really didn't have anymore grounds on trusting him. He had lied to her and hid things to her. He scoffed.
It's not my fault she's a real bitch, he thought, folding his arms. He looked around and realized that he was still inside the custodian's closet. As he stood to wipe off the dust on his clothes, the door opened. An elderly man with sagging cheeks stared blankly at him.
"Sorry, I thought this was the bathroom," Inuyasha answered sheepishly before he ran off.
"You didn't shit in here did you?" the man yelled back at him.
