So I've decided that if I don't get at least five reviews, that can only mean that you want me to delete this story…
It was dark when the group reached the village. Kaede was surprised to see them come since she had hoped that they were at Naraku's castle. She welcomed them into her little home, and fed them with food that seemed more delicious than it usually did because they were so hungry.
It was too silent, she noticed. Something was amiss and she knew it really didn't have anything to do with Naraku. She stared at them and continued to silently eat her meal. She was a very observant person and as she looked at them, she realized where the problem lay. She was not surprised that it was something to do with the miko and the hanyou, but either way, the atmosphere felt peculiar. The monk seemed to talk to the demon slayer with his eyes. Both seemed to have a secret conversation involving the other two. The small fox demon looked nervous at the whole situation.
She abruptly placed her plate on the floor, "All right, enough of the silence and tell me what the meaning of this anger is."
Everyone's eyes were suddenly on the old lady, but soon shifted their gazes to their meals again. No one seemed to want to answer, and Kaede let it slide, until it began to turn to another full minute of silence.
"Well someone has to tell me what's wrong…"
"Kagome and Inu Yasha are married." Shippo answered shakily.
Kaede thought she misunderstood, "What did you say?"
"It was Miroku and I who… accidentally got them married." Sango continued.
Kagome stood up and left the confinements of the room, she went outside, her anger still embedded on her veins.
Kaede watched the young woman go and then turned to Miroku, "How is this so?"
"It was a prank, we really didn't mean for them to get married. We just wanted them to learn a lesson."
Kaede went into a raspy laugh. Everyone stared at her in astonishment.
"What's so funny old hag?" Inu Yasha asked.
"It seems to me," she said, "That this lesson-whatever it may be-will not only be for you and Kagome, but also for Sango and Miroku."
Miroku protested, "I don't think so. The best thing I can learn out of this is how it feels to be beaten by Inu Yasha."
Inu Yasha growled, "Instead of laughing, you have to help us!"
"How so? You know Inu Yasha, it is assumed that you two have mated, and no priest can undo what is done."
"Well you have to do something. If you don't she is going to want to go home, and then what are we going to do? How are we going to find the shards?"
"Is that the only thing you worry about?"
He turned away, "Yes."
Sango gasped of indignation, "No wonder she thinks you are an ass!"
"Feh. To me, this marriage does not count. One: This is not even the way true mates `get married' in my race. Two: She is not my mate." He walked away too and left the others like Kagome had done just a few minutes earlier.
It was late, and since Shippo was already too tired. He fell asleep on Sango's lap. She looked at Kaede with a pleading glance, "So there really isn't anything that can be done?"
Kaede shrugged, "Of course there is."
Sango and Miroku looked at each other, "Then why did you…" Miroku began.
Kaede started to pick up the plates, "What was the reason you two duped them?"
"To make them admit what they truly feel, and so they can stop bothering us with all their bickering." It was Sango who answered.
"I see. That is not such a bad reason."
"But Lady Kaede…" Miroku said, "Why did you tell Inu Yasha that it cannot be undone?"
"I also want to teach that lad a lesson. He should know by now that Kagome is a girl with many virtues. He needs to understand that that foolish promise he made to Kikyou to go to hell is that… foolish. That girl is in love with him, any idiot except him can see it."
Sango and Miroku fell silent; they had just realized that they were both idiots. Sure they had known she liked him, but to love him…
"Well didn't you know? Why do you think she has been with him all this time?"
"I always thought she liked him, but…" Sango said.
"She loves him?" Miroku asked astonished.
Kaede solemnly nodded, "Of course she does. She has been trying to save him from his own death. That's why she never questions his reasons for wanting to become a full blooded demon. She thinks that if he becomes what he wants to be, then there is hope for him to not want to die."
Miroku was silent; Inu Yasha was a stupid man. Sango on the other hand could not keep her mouth closed, "She is so… he is so stupid! I mean Kikyou is always trying to kill him and he still feels the need to protect her? He is stupid…"
"Lady Kaede…" Miroku said, "I am intrigued, although now I have no intention of doing it, I still want to know the way to undo this marriage."
"They have not consummated."
"But the priest-" Sango began.
"All that needs to be done is for a physician to check if she is still a maiden, then the marriage can be undone."
"Then why did the priest-"
"Priests don't believe in divorce or annulments." Kaede answered.
"Wait a minute, Lady Kaede, do you actually want them to consummate?"
She shrugged, "Maybe that will make Inu Yasha realize that she is his mate. She may or may not be, but I am most sure she is."
Kagome could not help but feel like crap. She was married! Married! What would her mom say when she went to her time? Then it suddenly occurred to her that that was the solution! In the present-future, the marriage could not possibly exist! She would free Inu Yasha that was for sure. A question in the back of her mind made her skin tingle; did she want to be wedded to Inu Yasha? Of course not! He did not love her! She was not going to be in a marriage in which her `husband' did not love her!
It was done then, the next day she would go… and he could be alone and chase after Kikyou. She was no third wheel! Besides Kikyou should be able to detect shards! He didn't need her! She didn't care! Then why did she suddenly feel like crying? She stopped her tears, when she felt Inu Yasha's presence.
"Kagome?"
She turned to him, "Yeah?"
"Look…" He looked at the hearth. "I hope you are not angry at me anymore, you have to understand that it isn't my fault we are now in this predicament. You understand that, right?"
"Yes." She answered dully.
"But don't worry, I'll find a way to brake this marriage, all right?"
Please don't cry now! "Well actually, I was thinking about something right now. A solution."
She controlled the urge to wince when she saw a light of hope in his eyes, "Really?"
She gulped the tears away, "Yes. I think I have to go back to my time… I have to leave so…" She turned away; the tears were burning her eyes now.
He suddenly took her into his arms with a desperate need he didn't quite understand. No, he could not let her leave him! He needed her company! There had to be another solution.
She was surprised to feel him hug her tight. Why was he doing this? Why was he making her confused? He loved Kikyou he had no right to mess around with her feelings. She pushed him away.
He let her go, "You are not going anywhere, you have to stay here. And if you go back, I will bring you back!"
"Why do you even want me back?" She questioned him, "Oh that's right! Kagome you are so stupid, how can you forget that you are the shard detector! Why it's only a job that you can do!"
"Look Kagome you are not leaving, period. Even if I have to watch you every single minute! You won't leave to even visit your home until we solve this issue!"
She gasped, "Don't worry! There is a much better person that can help you in finding the shards!"
Kagome, you are my friend it's not only the shards… you are special to me! Inu Yasha wanted to say. Instead he asked, "What are you talking about?"
"Why don't you ask Kikyou? Oh that's right! I forgot that she tries to kill you every time she sees you! But you don't care! Always loyal to that idiot!" She gasped at what she'd said.
"Don't insult her wench!" He took her arm and squeezed it `lightly' to make his point, "You don't know all she's gone through! What has she ever done to you?!"
She felt her heart being clenched, what had she done? She had taken Inu Yasha's love that's what. She blinked away tears that were more than close to falling. "You are right Inu Yasha, she is everything to you, and she does love you."
His face softened, "Kagome…"
"And that's the reason I have to leave… I don't belong here. Inu Yasha, I don't want this `marriage' to affect your `relationship' with her." She said mockingly, "I mean what could be worse than her trying to kill you?"
He scowled and squeezed her arm more; she bit back a cry of pain and smiled sardonically. "You don't know anything, bitch, she does love me! There has just been so many things that you wouldn't understand little girl." He let go of her so abruptly that she stumbled and almost fell. It was almost impossible to not rub off the pain.
"Oh, so I am a little girl because I tell you the truth? Why do you find me so little? I am a woman, why, I'm seventeen soon to be eighteen years of age. In fact, in this era I should be considered an old woman already!"
"Keh. You are no woman. You have never even been mated."
Kagome choked of astonishment, is that what it took to be considered a woman? Well then she would just have to lie to shut him up. "And what makes you think I have not mated?"
Besides the fact that you are blushing? He thought, but decided to follow her game. "So you have mated?" She nodded, "Could have fooled me."
"Oh you don't believe me?"
"So you really have?"
Kagome hesitated, "Of course, everyone in my era has done just about before being seventeen."
"Really?"
She nodded, "In fact, I am very experienced."
He tried not to laugh, "You are? How many men have you slept with then?"
Kagome pretended to count, but suddenly stopped, "Inu Yasha have you… you know?"
She was terrible at lying that was for sure. "Of course. Want to know how many women I've-"
"No!" She quickly answered and remained silent for a while.
"Well how many?" He did not want the game to stop.
She gulped, "Uh…hmm, well I can only remember about ten…" She would pray for forgiveness once she was alone for lying so much, and for such things…
"Really?" He walked nearer and stood very close to her, that he knew if he moved a little more, the peaks of her breasts would touch his chest. He suddenly stepped back, unbelievable of his own thoughts, sure she was beautiful, but he had never thought about her in that sense!
"Yes." Her face was crimson.
"I see… well you are not leaving." He ran a hand through his silver mane.
"Inu Yasha, you cannot tell me what to do! I am leaving and that's that!" She turned away, the ridiculous conversation was over.
"Damn it, Kagome! I said you are not leaving!"
"Who is going to stop me?" She asked as she walked to the Kaede's home.
"Keh! You very well know that I'll stop you!"
She turned to him and unable to hold back the tears she let them slide freely on her cheeks. "I got married on my uniform!"
"Shit! Kagome, why are you crying?" Damn, how he hated when she started to cry, he felt like holding her and protecting her from even the slightest glimpse of a mosquito. He hated this warm feeling that she evoked in him.
She sniffed and looked at the full moon. "It's just that you don't understand…" She wiped a tear away, "In my era, weddings are done differently. If that way was done here, I would have known what was going on before the priest…" She threw herself in his arms, "It was done all wrong!"
He inhaled sharply, "Ok, if it makes you feel any better… tell me how weddings are done in your time." If this would make her stop crying, he would gladly hear this tale.
"Well," She sniffed, "the bride gets married in white. Her dress is beautiful, long, and the groom-on his tuxedo-waits for her in the church."
"Tuxeedou?"
"It's this suit that makes men look handsome. Anyways, everyone stares in awe as the bride approaches her groom. Someone is playing the wedding march, the family of the bride shed tears of happiness. Everyone both the groom and bride know is there! Heck, maybe even the bride's cat!" She took a small pause, "She walks slowly to her soon-to-be-husband. He smiles at her… the father than asks to both of them, `would you take so-and-so as your wife/husband?' They both say yes-but at a different time of course and then…" She sighed wistfully.
Inu Yasha found he was very interested in this way to get married. After a long pause he decided to prod her to respond. "And then?"
Kagome closed her eyes and leaned her head against Inu Yasha's hard chest, "And then the father says to the groom, `You may now kiss the bride.' The couple kisses and shows all their love to one another in that kiss that seals them together until death do them part."
He looked down at her, and saw a small smile curve in the corners of her luscious mouth. Did she want him to kiss her?
Suddenly Kagome got back to reality and pushed Inu Yasha gently away when she noticed that she held him. She blushed and looked away from his searching gaze, she gave a dainty shrug, "And that's the way weddings are done in my time." Her eyes collided with his, "Not that this is what I want with you… after all this doesn't even count."
She looked at her shoes and noticed that they were dirty; she cleared her throat as it felt dry for some reason. It sure did get quiet. She risked a glance at Inu Yasha and noticed that he still stared at her. Her heart was beating so fast she feared it would burst. He always made her feel so different when she was with him. She felt that her heart became twice its size every time she even saw him, and at the same it felt so tight; like it would burst of so many feelings he made her yearn.
She cleared her throat, "And you Inu Yasha? How do youkais and hanyous `marry'?"
He folded his arms across his chest like he usually did, "Keh! So much different than humans, that's for sure. But I guess I should at least tell you."
They both sat against a tree. "Hmph!" He began, "Like I said, completely different from humans. You see, in our kind, things are done more… I don't know what's the word? Hmm, I guess you can say it is more aggressive."
Kagome frowned, "How? How is it that `weddings' are aggressive?"
"Well, first there is the ceremony. All of the allies are there, and also some enemies."
"Why would you invite enemies to your wedding?"
"Well, they are not bad, bad enemies. You know, they are more like rivals. Something like-"
"You and Kouga?"
"Feh! Precisely. So after the couple swears that their loyal love to one another, the male places one of his claws on his wrist, and cuts a vein just enough to get some blood out."
"Yuck!" Kagome made a face in disgust.
"Then he does the same to his bride." He almost smiled when he saw her put a hand on her throat.
"That's horrible!"
He shrugged, "They both taste each other's blood."
Kagome shivered, "That reminds me sort of the things that vampires do."
"Keh! They do it for stupid reasons; they find that romantic for some reason. But like I said, this signifies loyalty. Well after that, they kiss each other too-ironic kind of like in your time-and then everyone cheers for the new union that has been made."
"You know, besides all that bloody stuff, it is not really that sadistic."
"If you don't count the mating night, then I guess you can say it's not so bad."
"The honey moon?"
"Uh-sure. You see-wait do you want me to tell you what happens when they mate and why it is so fierce?"
She seriously tried not to blush, "Of course, you know Inu Yasha, and I am an experienced woman you can tell me anything."
She did not see him roll his eyes of her lying again. "All right, well first and the most important thing is to mark her-"
He stopped as he smelled a familiar scent. He stood suddenly, his tessaiga ready for battle. "Sesshoumaru, show yourself."
Kagome's eyes widened when she saw his brother only a mere feet away. His face an expressionless mask like always. She didn't know why they hated each other so much. Why were they so inclined on killing each other? Youkais/hanyous were so difficult to comprehend!
"Is it true? You have claimed this miko as your mate?"
"What the hell? How did you find out?"
"Doesn't really matter." He shook his head, "Tsk, tsk. I see you've fallen for another human girl. Did you not learn your lesson with that other one the time she sealed you away for fifty years?"
Inu Yasha growled.
"Now Inu Yasha, we both seem to want the same mission done: to kill Naraku. And I've been thinking something, if you want us to unite-"
"Woah! Did hell just freeze over? You are telling me that you want to be allies?"
"Hmph, don't get so cocky half demon. Naraku is smarter than I thought, but not at all that strong. He is like you, a hanyou after all."
"Get to the point."
"I see that this childish grudge you've been having against me for all this time-"
"Me?! It's you! You are the one who started-"
"Quiet. Now like I was saying, there is something I've learned as I've traveled with my small companion."
"Jaken?"
"No fool, Rin, the human girl. And I've learned that not all humans are idiots, in fact children are, what is that word, nice?"
Inu Yasha and Kagome's mouth opened wide. The younger brother soon recovered, "Wait a minute, you actually like something?"
Sesshoumaru decided to ignore that comment. "Listen Inu Yasha, don't be an idiot. There is a point to this conversation, because as you should know, I am a man with few words."
"Damn too many words today."
Sesshoumaru frowned slightly, "This is what I want, if you want us to live in peace… I suggest you and your woman give me a nephew."
Inu Yasha choked on air, and Kagome's face turned into three shades of red.
"What the-"Inu Yasha sputtered, "What the-"
"I've decided that children are not so bad. And I want a nephew."
Kagome looked at Inu Yasha, but saw him still choking on air. "Why don't you get some yourself?"
The lord of the western lands looked at the mere human, slightly surprised that she would dare speak to him with such tone. "I've yet to find my mate. Who knows where she is, I might never find her." And he looked like he did not care.
"Well you-" She gulped when she saw his eyes glint, "You can't just tell us what to do."
He shrugged, "Mark her hanyou, if you don't want a youkai to take your mate."
Without another word he left before Inu Yasha could form a proper response. Kagome patted his shoulder in comfort, "You ok?"
"Who the hell does he think he is?" He barked, "What the-I mean, what-"
"Relax, he is gone… and don't pay attention to him, although I am a little confused about this sudden change."
"He hasn't changed; he just wants us to give him a nephew…"
She looked away uncomfortably, "Wonder how he found out about this `marriage', word can spread as fast as fire can't it?" She chuckled nervously.
He shrugged, "That idiot is always one of the first to find things out, and I don't know how…"
"Guess so…" Kagome stretched her arms out and yawned. "Well this day has been long and hectic, and weird. I am going to sleep."
"So what are we going to do about Miroku and Sango?"
That sudden question made sleep fly away. Kagome smiled, took his hand and pulled him to sit next to her. "What do you have in mind?"
Inu Yasha smiled wickedly, "Humph! A lot…" Both discussed the issue for about an hour and decided that the `perfect revenge' would be soon executed. The tension that had been plaguing them earlier seemed to have lifted as the two friends decided to forget about their `marriage' for a while.
Kagome could not believe the sudden weather. It was so hot she might as well be in a desert! Instead of whining about this, she decided to do something about it. That's right; she would simply take a good bath at the lake. No one was around, for some reason everyone seemed to be doing their own thing. Even Kaede seemed distracted, it was a slow day.
As she entered the cool water, she sighed of contentment and began to hum. The water always relaxed her and it sometimes even made her dream. Yes, in the water she would sometimes fantasize that she was a mermaid like in the Disney movie. She was silly because in this dream, Inu Yasha did not know how to swim and she would save him. Yes it was she who saved him. How bizarre was that, when in reality it was always he who protected her? She giggled at the stupid thought. Me save Inu Yasha? Whatever.
She suddenly stopped this usual dream and plunged deep into the water to get back to reality. She shook her head as she tried to forget him. She needed to stop thinking about him. Why couldn't her heart accept that he was in love with someone else, that she just got in the way? Why? Because the heart was blind and stupid. This wedding was nothing but a joke that he just wanted it to end-and so did she of course-but as weird as it was… she was wedded to Inu Yasha. She still could not get over the fact; she silently yearned that the wedding had been planned. That he had asked her to marry him. Again those silly thoughts! What was wrong with her? She was only seventeen! She was not even sure she would graduate! She had not even frenched!
Tired of `relaxing' she decided that the water was making her go crazy. She was feeling better, so she would end this dreaming-er-bath. Her head surfaced the water and she took a deep breath-only to be pulled down again. She didn't know what it was, but it was trying to kill her that was for sure! She opened her eyes and although her vision was blurry-she managed to see what it seemed to be a plant. It wanted to eat her!
She tried to free herself, but the more she tried, the more she seemed to be tangled in it. The vines were now squeezing her nude form and that made her loose the last of the breath she had. She needed air! She felt herself grow weaker and so did her struggles; it was difficult to fight with no air after all. She felt the youkai's teeth bite her stomach, but not enough to tear a chunk off. She had to fight! She had too… was it possible that she would die as food to a plant? Unable to hold her breath any longer; she gulped a large amount of water. She would either die of this plant, or the lack of air, but she would die… that was for sure. The pain in her stomach and the lack of oxygen made her black out…
A/N: Little cliffy, will update depending on those reviews ^-^
