InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Misky Dreams ❯ Kaori ( Chapter 10 )
Kagome stared off in the distance; she was just after waking up. The sun was barely up over the hills, but no matter how much she tried, after that dream she had had and that strange feeling she got that Koga knew that youkai she could not get to sleep.
`I have to ask him about her. . .but I'll have to do it when Inuyasha is still sleeping.' With that thought in mind she crawled over next to Koga and tapped his chest with her finger. "Koga. . .Koga. . .wake up. . .I need to speak with you. Its kind of important."
Koga's eye slowly slid open, he yawned and looked over at Kagome. "Yeah? What do you need to ask me?" he yawned again and turned over on his side so he could look at Kagome in the face.
". . .um. . .did you ever. . .know a girl youkai. . .with um. . ." Kagome thought back to her dream. "Long white hair. . .red eyes. Um. . .she wore a black and pink kimono. . .and. . ."
"Matching body armor." Koga finished for her. His face was now white. "How did you know about her?"
"She came to me in a dream last night. . ." Kagome told him. "And for some reason after I woke up I got this feeling that you knew her some how."
Koga seemed to be deep in thought, which made Kagome a little nervous. "Yeah, I knew her."
". . .who was she?" Kagome asked.
"Her name was Kaori. . .she was a shadow youkai." Koga said, his eyes lowering to the ground. "She and I were best, best friends when we were children. . .she was actually my only friend."
"Really?"
"Yeah." Koga smiled a bit.
"Can you. . .tell me a bit about her? Like what happened? Because you are saying `was' instead of `is' for when you said her name. . ."
Koga looked at Kagome. "Alright. . .if you really want to hear it." He sat up and crossed his legs. "At first I was only being friends with her out of mercy. She was a mute, see. So she couldn't walk up and talk to someone to try and make friends. But after awhile, mercy wasn't the case, I was really starting to like her. Also, after spending so much time together. . .something odd happened. I developed this bond with her. . .it was like, if she was in water, or even looking at it, I would feel all these little chills running over my body, or if she had fallen and cut herself, I would feel this scratching sensation over my knee, just saying that if it was her knee she had cut." Koga's smile disappeared. "It was on her fourteenth birthday. . .the last time I ever saw her. She was bugging me to go for a walk with her, constantly tugging on my cloths and tail. But I had to train my wolves, so I told her that I would catch up with her if she went on ahead while I was finishing training. I guess I made her mad because she stomped off into the forest like a mad woman. Anyway, when I was about to go get a drink before trying to catch up with her, I felt this burning sensation all over my body. It was normal, because Kaori had this nag of trying to play around with the dragons in the forest; and all the dragons loved to see her come by the way. So I set off into the forest, it wasn't long before I smelled something burning. So I ran. . .I ran as fast as I could. I came to a field much like this one, there were two dragons standing in the center of it, a bunch of ashes sitting between them. These dragons weren't the kind that lived around. . .they came from the volcano, and they were more evil than Naraku was at some points. Anyway, I looked at the ashes, and among them I saw a long, scorched, pink ribbon. It was the one I had given Kaori to put in her hair. . ."
Koga stopped talking. He was now trembling. "All of the anger inside of me just exploded, and I killed the two dragons with two swings of my training staff. I then lay down. . .in the ash. I grabbed the ribbon and just looked at it. I say I was there for a good three hours just staring at that ribbon. The others came and found me. . .they dragged me home. . ."
"Koga. . ." Kagome's eyes trembled and a tear rolled down her cheek. "I'm. . .I'm so sorry." Her eyes widened a little, Koga was also crying. She wasn't as surprised as she thought she would have been. . .but this is the first time she had ever seen the wolf youkai cry like that.
"She died mad at me. . ." Koga whimpered a little.
Kagome wrapped her arms around the youkai; he was trembling like mad. She didn't know what to say. . .there was barely anything she COULD say.
"But. . .I keep getting these feelings. . ." Koga looked Kagome in the face when he said this. "I still feel the cold. . .like she's alive. . ."
Kagome felt her heart sink to the pit of her stomach. She felt so sorry for him.

Inuyasha's ears twitched, he had listened to the whole thing Koga had been telling Kagome. `Poor guy.' He thought.

~*~Sneak Peak~*~
Kagome moved the branch blocking her view to one side. Just as she had expected, a waterfall. She looked closer there was a naked girl standing under the falling water, she was stringing her hands back through her hair, and her eyes were closed.
"Hello there. . ." Kagome called out.
The girl sank down into the water, her crimson eyes opened. -Who are you? What are you doing here?- a voice came into Kagome's head. The girl had spoke to her, but her mouth. . .it didn't open. . .
