Chapter 4

Sesshoumaru was in his room. He was laying on the bed in deep thought. He had brought a homeless girl into his home. Why had he done that? What else would he have done? Well before it didn't matter to him if he heard someone hurting another he just let it go. He figured they deserved that for being helpless. But the girl, Rin, surely she didn't deserve being killed or raped.

What would father think? What would Inuyasha say? Most likely Inuyasha would tease him but that didn't matter. How long would she be staying here? Did she remember him? Sesshoumaru decided he needed to put an end to all the thinking and he closed his eyes and took a much-needed nap.

Rin------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------

Rin awoke a second time to find herself on an incredibly comfortable bed. She felt around to find luxurious silk sheets covering her body. She must have died. That's it she was attacked. He attacker must have killed her and this is heaven. She guessed no one would miss her but still…surely there was more to life than that. She peeked out from underneath the sheet to see an incredibly beautiful woman with long black hair and a very expensive kimono on.

"Are…are you an angel?" Rin said tentatively.

"Oh…your awake." The woman turned around. "Ha…hardly my dear…" she came over from the dresser she had been routing through and came near the bed. "My name is Izayoi…don't you remember me? I just gave you a bath…"

"Oh!…yes I remember…I was attacked… that man, Sesshoumaru, He brought me here?" Rin asked in realization.

"Yes, he brought you. He said he found you being attacked and you became unconscious."

"…Yes I was attacked. And…he saved me?" Rin asked cautiously.

"I believe so, but you would have to ask him to know for sure."

"So this is where?" Rin asked, an embarrassed blush flowing into her cheeks.

"This is mine and my husbands as well as our two son's house." Izayoi said as she sat on the edge of the bed and offered Rin a glass of water. Rin drank as she looked around.

"Its beautiful…" Rin said as Izayoi chuckled to herself.

"Thank you…well Rin you ought to go back to sleep for a few hours…I will wake you for supper okay…make yourself at home dear." Izayoi gave the bed one last tap as she got up and left the room with her graceful steps. Rin laid back and fell into a deep sleep.

Inuyasha (oh branching out! Don't worry this wont happen too often for you Sess/Rin lovers!)------------------------------------------------------------------- ------

Inuyasha plopped down into the padded chair as he stared the woman in front of him down. Another woman and a man with a tiny ponytail were also staring at him from the corner of the room.

"Well! My name is Kagome." The young woman in front of him said more cheerfully than possible.

"Whatever, wench." Was all Inuyasha said as he crossed his arms and closed his eyes completely missing the rage on the young woman's face and the two sweat drops from the man and woman in the corner. Miroku quickly leaped into the middle to keep Kagome from strangling Inuyasha.

"So Inuyasha…" Miroku drawled in his suave tone. "What is it that makes you take an interest in project Shikon when you have never wished to participate in work…ever" implored the monk.

"I don't have to explain myself to you." Inuyasha said without lifting his head.

"So Kagome would you like to tour the office?" Sango leaped in to sweep Kagome off before anything bad happened and pushed Kagome out before Miroku and Inuyasha would have a chance to fight.

Sesshoumaru---------------------------------------------------- -------------------------

Sesshoumaru awoke to the loud trill of his alarm clock. It was 6:00. Inuyasha and his father would be home in a half an hour…great. He sat up and got up off his big bed, which was black and rather bare looking as far as beds go. Sesshoumaru wasn't the type to invest in more than four pillows. He walked into his clean little bathroom and washed his face. What would he say to his father? Maybe his father wouldn't care since he had taken interest in Izayoi. She hadn't been rich, as Sesshoumaru's mother had been.

Sesshoumaru's mother had been a rich and powerful heiress. She had married Inutaisho for its benefits and not for this love stuff he heard of. Inutaisho had tried his best to please his mother but she was never satisfied. She had not loved her son, but she confided her secrets of ruthless business to him.

"Sesshoumaru, when you are grown I want you to remember something." She had said so many years ago.

"Yes mother?" a small Sesshoumaru had asked.

"There is only one weakness in business. That is emotion. If you show emotion you have given away all weaknesses to your enemy. Don't give them the upperhand just to show silly emotions." She said with her toneless icy voice.

"Yes, mother." A small Sesshoumaru responded.

Sesshoumaru snapped out f his flashback and wiped his hands on a towel because it was now 6:25 and Sesshoumaru wanted to be down there in time to stop Izayoi from telling his brother and father outright. He dashed down the stars and into the kitchen only to find his father with his hands on Izayoi's waist as she stirred dinner and Inuyasha sitting at the kitchen table with a smirk lighting his face. Sesshoumaru was too late. They knew…what now?

"Son, Izayoi says you brought a guest home tonight. May I ask who it is?" his father said as he faced his son never letting his grip leave his wife's waist.

"Um…no one." Was all Sesshoumaru managed to get out.

"Well, her name is Rin, she got hurt and has no place else to go near here so she will be staying here." Izayoi said as she smiled at her husband and then gave Sesshoumaru a look that told him she wouldn't tell anything bad. Sesshoumaru was shocked and didn't see why Izayoi felt she should do him a favor but he was grateful nonetheless but he would not show this to her.

"Oh that's nice, will she be joining us for dinner?" was all Inutaisho said as he was so obviously entranced by the ramen being cooked on the stove. Now Sesshoumaru understood. Inuyasha was only smirking because they were having ramen, his favorite which Sesshoumaru found to be improper.

"I think so…let me go see." Izayoi said as she put the lid on the ramen, causing both Inuyasha and his father to sigh.

Rin------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------------

Rin awoke to the light footsteps that she knew to be Izayoi's. Izayoi walked into the bedroom with a dirty apron over her expensive kimono.

"Rin dear do you think you want to join us for supper?" Izayoi said with a kind smile.

"Um…I am hungry."

"Alright…I picked out this kimono for you…I hope you like it." Izayoi said as she held up a plain, but expensive yellow kimono with flowers on it.

"It's beautiful…"Rin went to stand up to get dressed but she immediately fell due to a sprained ankle.

"Are you alright!" Izayoi said as she rushed over and helped Rin onto the edge of the bed.

"Yeah…sorry" Rin said as she looked down sadly in apology.

"Oh don't be sorry dear, I will help you get dressed then Sesshoumaru can come and carry you down stairs." Izayoi said as cheerful as ever.

A blush was the only response Izayoi got but she proceeded quickly and got Rin dressed before they knew it.

"Hold on dear let me go get Sesshoumaru," she said as she left. Rin laid back on the bed and felt more embarrassed then ever before in her life. But she couldn't help but notice how nice the silk felt against her bare, clean skin.

Sesshoumaru---------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------

Sesshoumaru sat at the kitchen table quietly watching his father and brother trying to decide how much they knew about Rin. Inuyasha finished talking about whatever inane thing he was talking about to his father and turned to Sesshoumaru with a smirk.

"So who is this Rin? And how did she get here." Inuyasha said with a smirk.

"No one. And its none of your concern." Sesshoumaru added dryly.

"Now Inuyasha…" Inutaisho started before Izayoi coming into the kitchen cut him off. She went over to the bubbling pot and stirred it as she turned to face them.

"Rin says she will join us but it seems she is having some trouble walking…Sesshoumaru dear, do you think you could carry her downstairs?" Izayoi said lightly. Rin was hurt that bad? Sesshoumaru thought to himself.

"…Sure." Was all he said as he got up. He noticed Inuyasha had a smirk on his face that was so large it revealed his fangs.

Izayoi wiped her hands on her apron and led the way to her bedroom all the way Sesshoumaru followed her silently as he wondered if things could get worse. When had he begun caring what happened to weak homeless girls? He entered the room and found Rin lying on the bed in one of Izayoi's kimonos. She was smiling her oh so famous smile but her cheeks burnt a fiery red. Izayoi smiled but then realized this was Rin's first conscious moment with her rescuer and dashed out the door and down to the kitchen before they noticed her.

"…Sorry…" Rin said quietly.

"For what?" Sesshoumaru asked truly not knowing.

"For…for being a bother." Was what Rin came up with. "And intruding on your family and-"

"Stop." Sesshoumaru interrupted. "Its no bother." He said not changing his icy glare and tone.

"Thank you though…" she said twisting her fingers in the blanket in nervousness.

"No thanks necessary…Now would you like to go to dinner?"

"Oh…yes of course…Please." Rin said in her quiet way. Sesshoumaru walked over to the bedside and picked her up. He couldn't help but notice her soft warmth and the way she seemed to fit perfectly in his arms. He also noticed how she was to thin and bony. He looked ahead to avoid eye contact and carefully walked her down the stairs. He noticed that Izayoi had everyone already seated at the dining table. Which, if you knew their family, you would know this did not usually happen since the TV room was also used as a dining room by Inuyasha and likewise the office by himself.

This was indeed an odd picture. Izayoi at the head of the table with a very odd smile on her face and an Inutaisho looking Rin over as best he could from the distance. As well as an Inuyasha with his arms crossed over his chest in a pouting gesture.

"Can we eat already?" Inuyasha said. That snapped Sesshoumaru out of it and he walked over to the empty chair, which happened to be right next to his at the end of the table. He gently sat Rin down and sat down himself. Inuyasha began digging in to his heaping plate of ramen.

"So…Miss Rin welcome to my home, my name is Inutaisho."

"Thank you for having me here…" she said sort of quietly

"Oh really its my pleasure…Izayoi said you didn't have anywhere else to stay right now…please stay with us for as long as you would like…its nice to have more of a woman's touch around here. I'm sure Izayoi would enjoy the company and if you got on Sesshoumaru's good side then you probably should stay here since so few do." Inutaisho said with a smile as he shoveled a little ramen into his mouth.

"Oh yes dear please stay." Izayoi contributed.

"So (slurp) what did you do (slurp) to get on his good side?" Inuyasha spit out in between slurps.

"Um…"Rin wasn't sure what they meant…was it so hard o get on his good side? Why? What had she done?

"Enough…let her eat." Sesshoumaru said to end the questioning more on his behalf than Rin's.

The dinner continued in silence as Sesshoumaru picked at his food, Rin ate slowly while staring at the family's beauty, Inuyasha snarfed down ramen, Izayoi looked at Rin with stars in her eyes and Inutaisho was snarfing just like his younger son. They all continued just like this until they heard a large vehicle stop in the front yard. The dining room had a large window that looked out into the front yard. So they all saw that this vehicle was a bus. Bus number 444.

They heard the door slam open and an ugly green toad man walk in the dining room and collapse. Inuyasha and Inutaisho went back to eating. Izayoi got up and left, she returned moments later with some newspapers. She picked up the toad man with one newspaper and spread the other on the ground. She put him back on the newspaper. She left again and returned with some Lysol. She sprayed him with Lysol. This woke him and he began coughing.

"Milord…"

"What…" Sesshoumaru said clearly annoyed.

"Your BigMac… I thought you might want it for dinner…"

"No I hate BigMacs they are a heart attack on a bun." He said coldly. Rin tried hard not to but began giggling uncontrollably.

"What's so funny little girl?" Jakken said while he shook the BigMac box at her.

"You! And Sesshoumaru-sama!" she laughed harder as she griped her stomach.

"Milord! Are you going to take this?"

"Get out of here Jakken." He said but he was really focused on the young woman who was laughing and seemed to emit pure joy. Jakken was right…with most he would have yelled and dismissed them and Jakken. But she was so different from the people he was usually around. He looked around and saw that not only that the toads mouth had dropped open…but everyone else's had too. Besides Izayoi who was still smiling that smile. Inuyasha had even stopped eating. Sesshoumaru ignored them and went back to his plate.

"Huh…" said Inutaisho as Jakken exited the house while muttering some rather foul things. Rin had finally calmed down and seemed more comfortable with the family. She was also smiling the smile that did funny things to Sesshoumaru's stomach. What was he coming to?

Rin------------------------------------------------------------ -----------------------------

Rin had been so nervous but now she saw that the family was nice and Sesshoumaru-sama didn't hate her. Then that frogman had come and been hilarious…she couldn't stop laughing. She wondered about Sesshoumaru-sama though… he seemed sort of distant and cold. And his family implied that it was difficult to get on his good side. But Rin could see he wasn't bad on the inside.

It was so nice of them to let her stay there. It was by far the best place she had ever been. Even compared to her life before she was homeless…best not to think of that and get upset. She wiggled in her chair to feel the soft silk caress her skin. Come to think of it the family was rather odd… the men all had white silver hair down to their waists. And the most beautiful golden eyes. Though now that she looked both the other son and the father had lighter eyes than Sesshoumaru. But in her opinion his were by far the best.

She also noticed that Inutaisho and Sesshoumaru had markings on their faces, crescent moons and red lines. But the younger brother had none, he did however have to adorable ears atop his head. Izayoi was normal though, beautiful but normal. Rin felt very plain compared to them.

She had dark brown hair instead of glistening black or silver. And she had brown eyes instead of gold. Her features weren't perfect. And there was no way she would ever move as gracefully as Izayoi. Dinner was over and plates were being cleared by Izayoi.

"Shall we go into the living room?" Izayoi cheerfully inquired.

"Sure, I have things I want to discuss with the boys." Inutaisho said.

"Sesshoumaru do you think you could carry Rin in to the sofa?" Izayoi asked with a smile.

"Sure." He stood and walked over to her chair. He pulled her chair out and picked up her light form with the greatest of ease. She wrapped her arms around his neck and he carried her to the living room. She carefully touched a strand of his hair gently so he wouldn't notice but she had to feel it. Just as she knew it would be, it was silky smooth. She liked being pressed against his hard chest. He surprisingly felt warm and welcoming. She noticed not for the first time his spicy smell. It was not a cologne but natural. It smelled like…well a man. Not that she had much experience with men nonetheless with their smell.

They entered the room only to find the rest of the family taking up the seats. The only place left was the couch. Sesshoumaru laid her at one end and sat next to her on the other end. She was pleased that his scent was still neat enough for her to catch. Little did she know he was thinking the same thing at the other end of that couch. Soon she realized that she needed to pee, Now.

"Uh…may I use the restroom?" she asked embarrassed.

"Of course dear, do you want Sesshoumaru to take you there?" Izayoi asked.

"No." she added quickly. "Uh…I will manage…can you tell me where it is?"

"Sure it's just down the hall to the left."

Rin got up and hobbled out of there as best she could. She walked the hall and saw the bathroom. Boy it sure was so very far away. She finally made it and used its lush confines to do her business. She also noticed the toilet paper was oh so soft. She finished and washed her hands and face because she sure was getting tired. She opened the door only to be greeted by a *long* hallway. She began her hobbling but she began to get so very very tired. She was halfway there when she saw Sesshoumaru step out of the doorway.

"Hey are you all-" he was cut off by her fainting into his arms. He picked her up carefully and carried her up the stairs to a spare bedroom. He was almost there when he felt her stirring.

"Sess…" she muttered incoherently.

"Yes. You passed out I'm taking you to bed." He told the girl whether or not she understood.

"Boy…you smell…"she continued. Sesshoumaru was puzzled. Surely he didn't `smell'.

"Wonderful…"she finished. Sesshoumaru was very surprised. Rin thought he smelled good…gah! He was losing it. He found the best room and took her into it. He set her on the bed and tucked her in. he found himself looking at her a few moments to long. He shook his head and left to go back downstairs and hear what father had to say.

Okay…so sorry it took so long… and this chapter isn't even as long as I wanted it. But hey I thought it was sorta cute…think of it as a filler…but seriously give me sometime before you get on my case about updating next chapter because a monster is chasing me. And that monster's name is research paper. So I'm sorta busy not to mention other activities the older woman I call mother insists I do…

If you define cowardice as running away at the first sign of danger, screaming and tripping and begging for mercy, then yes, Mister Brave Man, I guess I am a coward. Jack Handey (off of SNL)

The memories of my family outings are still a source of strength to me. I remember we'd all pile into the car - I forget what kind it was - and drive and drive. I'm not sure where we'd go, but I think there were some trees there. The smell of something was strong in the air as we played whatever sport we played. I remember a bigger, older guy we called "Dad." We'd eat some stuff, or not, and then I think we went home. I guess some things never leave you. ~ more Jack Handey.

I guess of all my uncles, I liked Uncle Cave Man the best. We called him Uncle Cave Man because he lived in a cave and because sometimes he'd eat one of us. Later on we found out he was a bear. ~ and yet more Jack
