InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Moving Up in the World ❯ You're hired! ( Chapter 5 )
Okay, Sorry for keeping you all waiting so long, for a more detailed explanation on my lack of writing quickly please read my note after the story but here are some important things to know.
The world Rin and Sess are in is sorta a Tokyo/New York. Its named Tokyo because I thought that only seemed right but since I live in America that is what I'm familiar with. I'm not quite sure of the time, probably 2004, maybe a tad future-ish depending on the plot
It is indeed a Sess/Rin. End of story. There will be slight Kag/I and m/s. Kikyo and Narraku? I don't know you tell me.
There will be violence against Jakken and Myoga.
Rin will become more normal. She is adjusting. If you see rapid crazy changes then just remember her character. She is bold and unashamed soon after Sess saves her.
There will be a plot. Eventually. It will take lots of time.
Citrus/Lime? I'm thinking no…but only because I can't write it. If you rock at lime writing tells me and maybe I will come to you in my time of need.
My writing skills? I'm not that good honestly. But I'm proud of this story and I believe I write better every chapter.
I love reviews! I truly appreciate them. I love reading positive things! Thank you all who hit that button! Chances are I will check out your stories if you review. It just may take me a while.
POVs as you can tell the povs are very confused now. Really it's always in third person but the names indicate who we are focusing on. You also will have noticed that Rin/Sess aren't the only povs I'm going to do.
Why is Inuyasha such a jerk? Think of him as like he is in early anime. He will get better he just me Kag…but he is meeting Kik at the same time…hmm I bet that gets tricky…(heheheh)
Who else is coming into the story? Well I have pretty much everybody…but Kaedae, Koga and, Hojo possibly others…don't worry I will need them all.
Izayoi---------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------
Izayoi sat in her favorite chair in the living room. Her husband sat right next to her and her son, with his adorable ears, sat across from them. Her thoughts wandered as Inutaisho and Inuyasha were talking about sports. Surely she was the luckiest woman alive, To have an adoring husband and a wonderful son. Then there was Sesshoumaru, her stepson. He always acted cold and arrogant to her. She even realized that in most ways he hated her. But still she found herself loving him still. It was her duty to Inutaisho but also when she looked at him she saw that he had never had too much love in his life.
His mother had been an icy woman. Inutaisho said she had no love at all for either him or Sesshoumaru. Then when Inutaisho filed for divorce she whisked Sesshoumaru away because she knew she could get Inutaisho to give everything up in order to get him back. But for a long time he had been without even the love of his father. And when he came back to his father he developed a feeling of betrayal because Izayoi had already moved in and was pregnant with Inuyasha. Despite her and her husband's best efforts he remained completely emotionless from then to the very present.
Sesshoumaru had never shown any love for Inuyasha after he was born. Sesshoumaru felt betrayed by his existence. Inuyasha adored and looked up to Sesshoumaru even though Sesshoumaru found him annoying. Over the years Inuyasha had grown to be more and more maladjusted and the brothers had forged a deep hate.
She had worried nights and nights over about his future, as well as Inuyasha's. Even though he was not her own how could anyone not develop a love for that tiny six year old with no emotions and his life torn to pieces. She had decided he would probably marry only for business and never for love and die a rich, lonely old man. And though this broke her heart there was no way to change it. But she had no power over him, no one did.
She had lost all hope. But then yesterday she found daises on his windowsill and wondered what on earth could have made Sesshoumaru bring home daises. And then tonight he comes in with an unconscious homeless girl in his arms. If there was anything more out of character for Sesshoumaru to do then let her be damned.
The girl, Rin, though rough around the edges, was surprisingly pretty and delightful. Somehow she had gotten to Sesshoumaru. She seemed to be the only one ever to seem to affect Sesshoumaru. If there was any story Izayoi ever wanted to hear it would be the story of how they came together in the first place. She could only imagine the unlikely event that brought that cold business man to that small, homeless girl.
Izayoi began to come out of her dreamworld and tried to listen to Inuyasha's bets on March madness. He had many takes on the teams. Then she realized Sesshoumaru had not returned yet. He had left a few minutes ago to make sure Rin was okay and he was still gone.
Sesshoumaru----------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------
Sesshoumaru was walking back to the living room when he saw Izayoi burst out of the door with a panic-stricken look on her delicate features.
"Sesshoumaru! Where is Rin?" she asked while looking around somewhat wildly as if Rin could be hiding under the bench that sat in the hall.
"She passed out. I took her to a guest room."
"Oh My! Is she alright?"
"She seemed to be fine. Just exhausted." He stated plainly.
"Oh, well that's good why don't you come into the living room and talk with your father then." She suggested hopefully.
"Fine." Sesshoumaru couldn't imagine what Inutaisho wanted to talk about. Though he supposed it involved business. They rejoined Inutaisho and Inuyasha in the living room and sat down. Inutaisho took this as his cue and began.
"So boys, I'm sure your mother told you that I wished to talk to you."
"Yeah, get on with it." Inuyasha snapped.
"Well as you remember today brought some interesting changes in the office."
"Yeah." Inuyasha added harshly.
"First off, Inuyasha, how do you like Kagome?"
"That wench?"
"Inuyasha don't refer to a woman like that!" Izayoi cut in.
"Well she is just so…" Inuyasha couldn't grasp the right word.
"So helpful?" his father offered.
"So beautiful?" his mother offered also with a little too much hopefulness.
"No…so annoying." Inuyasha finally decided.
"Well, Inuyasha I'm afraid you just will have to get over it because she is the best at her job." Inutaisho said as he folded his arms in an expression that told everyone he wasn't going to budge on the subject. Inuyasha just harrumphed at his father and let it drop. Meanwhile Sesshoumaru watched his `family' and thought how he would be better without them all.
"Since that's settled I thought we would talk a little about project Shikon." Inutaisho said, he was back to his normal goofy cheer.
"What about it? I will handle it." Inuyasha snapped protectively.
"Well, since its such an important job I have decided that you and Kagome will indeed handle it. However I have also decided that Sesshoumaru will be checking in on you." Inutaisho said cautiously, he was aware what was coming next. He braced himself and gritted his teeth.
"WHAT! This is my project! I don't want his barging into my business with his little toad!" Inuyasha shouted as he stood up and threw the magazine he had been reading onto the floor. It just so happened that it was the swimsuit edition of sports illustrated.
"Calm down sweetheart." Izayoi soothed.
"Now Inuyasha, he is just going to check in a little bit to make sure everything is going perfect."
"Well fine just see if I ever talk to you again!!!" Inuyasha shouted and stormed off only to return and pick up the magazine and redo his storming. Inutaisho sweat dropped but realized this was really a good scenario compared to what could have happened. There had been quite a few meltdowns over the years that put this one to shame. Izayoi put her hand over her mouth but realized the same thing and stayed there. Sesshoumaru sat there thinking of all the work he could be getting done instead of listening to his brother's tantrums.
"Ok, well that's solved now onto you Sesshoumaru." Inutaisho turned to his elder son and put his goofy smile in its normal spot in between his some-what pointed ears.
"What do you wish to discuss with me?" Sesshoumaru asked icily.
"How did the search for your personal assistant go?"
"……………" Sesshoumaru had completely forgotten about it.
"So no luck?" Inutaisho gathered from his son's response.
"Not really." Sesshoumaru admitted.
"Hmmm…Hey! I got an Idea! What about Miss Rin?" Inutaisho lit up with excitement at his `genius'.
"I don't think-" Izayoi quickly cut in only to be cut off herself.
"Hm…Perhaps. I shall see if she is willing." Sesshoumaru himself was even surprised at his answer. But it didn't sound like such a horrible idea. Rin would be much less annoying than Jakken and come to think of it having an uneducated homeless girl around the office was better than having some college graduate always insisting they were right and he was wrong. And he certainly needed no help. So this was truly the solution. He would be less annoyed all around and if there was one thing he was for it was less annoyance. It would be so much easier to ditch her in a lunchroom and work alone. And it would give the girl a very large salary and she could get off the street, not that that part mattered to him.
"Huh?" Izayoi said quietly enough to slip past her thickheaded husband. Who was absolutely thrilled with himself.
"Good then I will see you in the morning." And Inutaisho got up and headed upstairs leaving Izayoi and Sesshoumaru alone. Sesshoumaru braced for the interrogation he knew was coming.
"Sesshoumaru…was I wrong in the fact that Rin is indeed a homeless girl with no money and little to no education?" She inquired coolly so as to not set him off.
"You are correct…" was all he could come up with.
"Well then, may I ask why you just told your father you would offer her such an important job?" She continued fervently. He stared at her blankly for a long second before offering her only a head tilt and an oh-so slight shrug. "Why not? Was all he said before gliding out of the living room before more could be said.
"That boy……" Izayoi muttered under her breath as she went about straightening the couch cushions.
Rin------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------
Rin woke again in yet another room. She saw that it too was lavish and well decorated. She sat up slowly and saw that there was a simple kimono set on the window seat. She carefully turned and set her feet on the floor. To her surprise she found her ankle only slightly sore. She gingerly got up and stretched out. She walked over to the window seat and picked up the kimono and relished in its softness for a moment. She put it on and washed her face in a basin filled with sweet smelling water.
The next thing to do was go downstairs was all she could guess. She tiptoed into the hallway and began quietly in the most promising looking direction. She had been walking awhile and was pretty sure she was lost when a door flew open in front of her and Inuyasha staggered out.
"Hey, you're that Lin girl right?" He stammered.
"Well, no actually it's Rin…" she mumbled back.
"Right that's what I said." He lied. He looked at her for a few moments before adding: "What are you doing here anyway? Shouldn't you be having breakfast?" He inquired.
"Well, that's the thing…" She looked him over seeing his heavily mussed hair. She paused her gaze directly over his two pointy ears. She had never noticed how soft they looked. Boy they seemed like they screamed to be rubbed. Her fingers itched to touch them… suddenly she reached out and rubbed his ears.
"What the!!! He batted her hand down as she looked as innocent as possible. "What the hell do you think you're doing!"
"Sorry…I just…your ears…" she stammered.
"Argh…Shut up and follow me." He snapped as he pushed her aside and headed in the opposite direction she had been going."
Sesshoumaru----------------------------------------------------- ----------------------
Sesshoumaru sat at the kitchen table. Izayoi was busy bustling about with pots and pans. Her familiar cotton apron covering her silk kimono.
"You know Sesshoumaru, if that girl is going to work for you she is going to need some things…" Izayoi informed him over a bowl with eggs half-scrambled in it.
"Yes, I know." He replied lazily.
"She doesn't have any money."
"Yes, I know."
"She won't know where to shop."
"Yes, I know."
"Well, I guess I can take her shopping but what about money? I can't take out anymore for the rest of the month. You know I hit my limit when I changed my mind about the silk drapes."
"I will pay." He stated simply. Izayoi couldn't hide the shocked look and had to turn away. "Supposing she does say yes of course…," Sesshoumaru added in hopes of appearing less soft.
"She will say yes, anyone in their right mind would, nonetheless a homeless person."
"Where is she anyway?" Sesshoumaru kept his tone icy.
"Sleeping I guess…I left a kimono for her…" she replied absently. Just then the door swung open and revealed his half-brother and Rin herself.
"Hey." Inuyasha said, "What's for breakfast?"
"Eggs bacon and chocolate chip pancakes and ramen dear!" Izayoi chirped.
"Yum", Inutaisho commented as he entered the kitchen as well. He sat at the kitchen table and began peeling an orange. Inuyasha joined him.
"Have a seat Rin, dear" Izayoi cheerily instructed.
"Oh hey! Sesshoumaru has an important business proposition for you! Don't you Sesshoumaru?" Inutaisho said with a slice of orange still in his mouth.
"Wha-?" Rin stuttered.
"He wants you to be his assistant!" Inutaisho continued merrily completely missing his son's mortification because of his stony expression.
"What?!?!" was all she could spit out.
"Rin, could I have a word with you in the hall?" Sesshoumaru quickly interjected.
"Yeah, of course."
In the hall----------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------
"You want me to be your assistant?" She asked wide-eyed.
"Well, you see I don't really need an assistant, but father insists I have one so at least if you are my assistant then you can do some simple errands for me and I wont be bothered by some up tight college graduate." He stated, "And it will get you off the street." He added as casually as possible. "Any questions?"
"Yeah…What's an air and?"
"It is a chore you do for somebody else." He educated without a second thought. "So, will you do it?" he asked nervously.
"Yeah, It will be fun."
A/N: Okay guys. Sooo sorry to keep you waiting so long. I kind of had a falling-out with fanfiction (more like with the whole internet), but I'm back now. I think I have grown a lot as a writer very recently and unfortunately this story is almost not good enough for me (think of it as a pair of jeans that you have to lay down on the bed to zip up). So I had to do my research paper (snicked by with a b- thank you very much) then I was just disinterested…but after much thought I have decided to keep Moving Up going. Though you will have to put up with a few things, A) slightly shorter chapters (10 pages takes FOREVER) B) suddenly inexplicable lager roles/ changes in character. For example kagura is coming back in a big way. She will be less dumb and more malicious. As for the new writing style it kinda starts very late in this chappie on. It may not be any different, but I'm just saying be prepared. I figured you guys would rather have this story be compromised, but continued, rather than just deleted. Tell me if I'm wrong or something.
Just to show you that there is indeed a next chapter in progress:
Next chapter: Shopping!
